Eyes Tightly Shut

Maddow does logic and fashion with eyes closed

Liberals accuse Conservatives of all kinds of ugly behavior and evil motives, but in the court room of “by their fruits we shall know them”, it is liberals who actually are guilty of all those very behaviors and motives. Liberals say they want “dialogue” and “civil rhetoric” but they show time and again they are incapable of civil dialogue. For them, bipartisanship means you must agree with them. If you don’t, you’re a racist, homophobic bigot who deserves to be raped to death. Below are just a few real events that prove my point.

What a load of …

While promoting her new book, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) told People magazine about incidents in which older, male colleagues commented on her weight.

In the congressional gym, she said a male lawmaker told her, “Good thing you’re working out, because you wouldn’t want to get porky!”

On another occasion, after she lost about 50 pounds, she said a male senator squeezed her stomach and remarked: “Don’t lose too much weight now. I like my girls chubby.”

What kind of misogynist neanderthal still thinks it is okay to make remarks like this, much less actually TOUCH … even worse SQUEEZE … a colleague’s body … or call a female colleague “my girl”?  These remarks and behaviors would be out of line if the woman was a lowly intern.  Gillibrand is a United States SENATOR, for crying out loud!  [Where’s Barbara “don’t call me ma’am” Boxer when you need her?]

Dem War on Women

When pressed to identify the perpetrators of such inappropriate behavior, Gillibrand demurred, claiming it didn’t matter, because the incidents “didn’t affect me.”  Oh puh-leeze.  There isn’t a woman on the planet who wouldn’t have been pissed off!  Plus, you know, YOU BROUGHT THEM UP, Kirsten!

Let me just GUESS … the REAL reason that the identities of these knuckle-draggers is a Big Secret is that they are DEMOCRATS, hmmm?  I’m right, aren’t I, girlfriend.  Cuz you know as well as I do that if a Republican had done anything remotely as offensive, you would’ve held a presser five minutes later to divulge his name and breathlessly report every nuanced detail of the latest assault in the GOP War on Women.

UPDATE: Veterans Affairs Scandal

August 26, 2014: USA Today reported that the joint DOJ-FBI-Veterans Affairs task force has issued a report on its investigation of 93 VA health care sites across the country.

Investigators found thousands of instances of deliberate VA fraud that directly impinged on care for veterans. Not mistakes. Fraud … including falsifying records to hide delays in care and deliberate attempts to obstruct investigators.

August 26, 2014? Can we just say … it’s about damn time and what the hell took so long?!?!?!

It’s not like there weren’t people EAGER to step forward! When the news media finally broke the story, the Inspector General’s office was flooded with allegations by whistle-blowers at VA hospitals and clinics across the country! And the very people who were most responsible for finding and fixing problems like this were AWARE that there were problems as far back as 2007.

Okay. Before you buy into Obama’s usual “Booosh did it!”, let’s look at HOW MUCH responsibility Barack Obama has SHIRKED on this issue.

Bush’s second term covered the 109th (2005-2006) and 110th (2007-2008) sessions of Congress. During both sessions, Senator Barack OBAMA was a member of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee, a group that is DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE for monitoring the quality of care our veterans are or are not getting at VA facilities.

However, it would be a mistake to say he “served” on the committee, since even the liberal blog Daily Kos noted that Senator Barack Obama MISSED MORE THAN HALF of the meetings!

Sadly … or perhaps I should say typically … his lack of attention to his own responsibility to monitor veteran health care did not stop him from blaming the Bush Administration for “deplorable conditions at some VA hospitals.”

Are we clear on this? Senator Barack Obama KNEW in NOVEMBER 2007 that some of the VA hospitals had serious problems AND he was PART of the oversight committee charged with INVESTIGATING and FINDING LEGISLATIVE SOLUTIONS to said problems.

Before I continue, I need to recap another bit of historical truth about Bush’s second term, which is that while Republicans held the majority in both the Senate and the House of Representatives during the 109th Congress, Democrats held the majority in both the Senate and the House of Representatives during the 110th Congress.

Our federal government cannot pass a single law unless the Senate and the House vote it through and the President signs it. That means whichever party holds the majority of TWO (or three) of these three entities HAS MAJORITY CONTROL OVER POLICY and legislation.

In other words, it would be entirely fair to blame Republicans for VA problems PRIOR to January 2007, since they had held the majority in DC continuously from January 1995 to December 2006.

But DEMOCRATS took over in January 2007 and among those Democrats was one Senator Barack Obama on the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee who claimed to be well aware of problems in VA hospitals.

So what exactly did Senator Obama DO to try and address the problems he claimed he saw so clearly in November of 2007?

Not much.

In the November 2007 Obama campaign press release in which Senator Obama blamed President Bush for “deplorable conditions at some VA hospitals,” it says:

“As a member of the Senate Committee on Veterans Affairs, Senator Obama has successfully reached out to Republicans and Democrats to pass laws to improve care for troops recovering from injuries, combat homelessness among veterans, and make the disability benefits process more equitable.”

I was curious how true that statement might be and actually looked up every piece of legislation sponsored by Senator Barack Obama on behalf of veterans. As it turns out, Senator Obama did what he’s so often done – i.e., he mangled the truth to make himself look good.

As you look at these lists, pay particular attention to the facts behind his claim to have “successfully reached out to Republicans to pass laws.”

  1. Obama’s “outreach” to Republicans was limited to just three centrists.
  2. None of his seven bills ever even made it out of committee, a step that is still very far removed from a bill becoming a law.

Veterans' Bills by Obama - 109th

Surprisingly, none of the Republicans Obama got to co-sponsor included the pro-military, but very centrist Senator John McCain.

One has to wonder … if the bills were actually any good, wouldn’t McCain have signed on, particularly to S.713 (2007) which was referred to the Armed Services Committee where Senator McCain was a ranking member? And if that particular bill had had any merit whatsoever, how did it manage to DIE in a Democrat-majority committee without even one day of hearings when it had had 32 Democrat sponsors?

Veterans' Bills by Obama - 110th

Also in that November 2007 campaign press release, Obama said, “America’s veterans deserve a President who will fight for them not just when it’s easy or convenient, but every hour of every day for the next four years.”

I totally agree. So let’s take a look at how well Barack Obama kept his alleged resolve after he became the President of the United States and the Commander in Chief of the American Armed forces in January 2009.

One: President Obama’s election gave the Democrat majority a trifecta for the two years of the 111th Congress (2009-2010).

In fact, the Democrats had large majorities in both the Senate and the House of Representatives, so essentially during those two years, Democrats could virtually write and pass any law they wanted.

Two: President Obama’s own nominee, Eric Shinseki, took over control of the Veterans Administration in January 2009.

If ever there was a prime time to FIX those “deplorable conditions”, 2009-2010 was it.

Three: In January 2011, Republicans won back the House of Representatives, but Democrats still controlled the Senate and the White House.

Democrats have had majority control over policy and legislation continuously since January 2007.

When the VA scandal broke in May 2014, DEMOCRATS had held the MAJORITY for more than SEVEN years, with OBAMA in the White House and his hand picked leader running the VA for more than FOUR years.

So let’s just put to rest any lingering “Booosh did it” and “Obama cares” baloney, mkay?

Rob Reiner is painfully ignorant.

“You look at the Congress right now in the United States. You’ve got a strong tea-party group controlling the whole country, because they have a gridlock, they have a gridlock stranglehold on [Republican House Speaker John] Boehner,” Reiner said. “Boehner can’t make a move, and so for that reason, nothing gets brought up in the Congress.”

Rob Reiner exposes his ignorance

Reiner is painfully ignorant. As of August 2, 2014, the House of Representatives under Majority Leader John Boehner has passed 356 bills, much of it with key support from House Democrats.

These bills would tackle problems associated with job creation, health care, energy production and a host of other issues. They are all languishing in the Senate, because Senate Majority Leader, Democrat Harry Reid, refuses to bring any of them to the floor for discussion or vote.

While Reid and the mindless Democrat Sheeple (e.g., Rob “Baa Baa” Reiner) blame the “do nothing Congress” on the GOP and/or the Tea Party, the FACT is that the gridlock is due entirely to the Democrat leadership.

The following is from the August 4, 2014 Washington Post, a newspaper long known for its sympathy for Democrats:

The Senate has not voted on jobs bills sent by the House, any “fix” for Obamacare or a domestic energy development bill. The Senate will not take up a real vote on the Keystone XL pipeline. It will not take up Iran sanctions.

It did pass Veterans Affairs legislation and Iron Dome funding, not exactly difficult votes. Other than that, not much of consequence has gone on in the Senate, but not because of Republican objections.

The GOP would love to take up many of these subjects, debate them and offer amendments; it is Reid who either won’t take up meaty issues or won’t allow any minority amendments, a practice he has taken further than any modern Senate leader. …

In essence, the Senate has become an adjunct of the White House. Reid’s side comes up with no innovative (or even non-innovative) initiatives of its own and doesn’t allow any from the GOP.

The Drunken Democrat

Honestly … you have to watch these two videos to believe them. This woman is a DISTRICT ATTORNEY!

Dashcam video of roadside sobriety test [11:22]

Jail video from after her arrest [4:49]

April 12-13, 2013: On the night of her arrest (around midnight), Lehmberg’s blood alcohol (.23) was nearly three times the legal level. Her smug belligerence really makes me wonder what kind of dirt she has on which prominent Democrats, KWIM?

She pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 45 days in jail, fined $4,000 and lost her driver’s license.

In Texas, the district attorney is the county’s lead law enforcement officer, and the Travis County District Attorney has the additional responsibility of prosecuting public crimes under the Public Integrity Unit, leading to a loud outcry for Lehmberg’s resignation from lawmakers and public safety groups. She refused to resign.

The Texas Local Government Code, in Chapter 87, allows public officials like district attorneys to be removed from office for “incompetency, official misconduct, habitual drunkenness, or other causes defined by law.” The 1987 revision to the law added a single incidence of intoxication on or off duty as a potential cause for removal.

However, because Lehmberg is a Democrat, elected in Travis County, one of the most Democratic-heavy areas of the state, and Governor Rick Perry, a Republican, would be able to pick her replacement, other Democrats quickly rallied to her defense.

That’s Democrats for you.  Never mind that she’s a flaming alcoholic who is a menace to herself and society. She’s a DEMOCRAT!  Politics trumps public safety ever time.

Frustrated with Lehmberg’s refusal to resign and maintaining his position that someone who had committed her offenses was not fit for office, either as the district attorney or as head of the Public Integrity Unit, Perry then announced plans to veto funding for the Public Integrity Unit unless Lehmberg resigned.

Texas law clearly grants the governor the power to veto funding for the Public Integrity Unit and many other agencies, but Democrats supporting Lehmberg howled and moved to punish the uppity governor by charging him with two felonies!

August 15, 2014: A grand jury indicted Texas Gov. Rick Perry on charges of abuse of official capacity, a first-degree felony with potential punishments of five to 99 years in prison, and coercion of a public servant, a third-degree felony that carries a punishment of two to 10 years.

No one quibbles that Perry had the right to veto the funding when the legislation crossed his desk. The case is about whether he abused his office when he threatened to veto in an attempt to get Lehmberg to step down.

The criminal investigation could mar Republican Perry’s political prospects as he mulls another run at the White House in 2016, which no doubt fueled the self-righteous fires of the Democrats For the Defense of Drunken District Attorneys who prosecuted him.

“You’re nothing. You’re navel lint.” – UPDATE

2014_08 01 Butthurt Pelosi goes stompy foot

Friday, August 1, 2014: Rep. Tom Marino (R-PA) spoke in support of the border bill and criticized Democrat attacks on GOP efforts:

“Under the leadership of the former speaker … when in 2009 and 2010, they had the House, the Senate and the White House, and they knew this problem existed, they didn’t have the strength to go after it back then. But now are trying to make a political issue out of it now.”

While Marino still had the floor, Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi got up and TWICE crossed the chamber to chastise and shake her finger at Marino.

You can see her at :53 at the bottom right, after which Marino addresses her about doing the research. She apparently returned to her own side for about 20 seconds, because you can see her again at 1:25-1:30 coming all the way across from the Democrat to the GOP side, wagging her finger at Marino.

Interestingly, the Chair reprimanded Marino for addressing her directly, but had nothing to say to Pelosi for stalking across the room and interrupting his time on the floor!

Kinda makes one wonder what the Dems have got on THAT whipped, yellow-bellied RINO.

FULL VIDEO – Nancy Pelosi Charges At GOP Rep. Tom Marino on House Floor [1:30]

A spokesperson for Pelosi said that the minority leader has accepted Marino’s apology.

Marino says he has not apologized. (And why should he? He was only speaking the plain truth.)

In a series of tweets, Marino said,

“Rep. Pelosi called me an ‘insignificant person’ on the Floor of the House. I’ll ponder that for a while driving to Williamsport tonight. Of course I’ll be driving myself, with no staff or security. And I’m just a country lawyer who worked in a bakery until he was 30 so maybe I am not significant enough to question the former Speaker. But why then did she get so bothered by my comments?”

This reminds me of a scene in the Kevin Kline movie, Dave, where Frank Langella’s character says, “You’re navel lint.”

If you haven’t seen the movie, do. It’s a good one!

Quick backstory: Kevin Kline plays Dave, a presidential look-alike and actor. When the real president has a stroke, Langella and his cohorts rope him into pretending to be the real president so they can run the country themselves. The First Lady figures it out and cooks up a plan to bring down the Langella crowd without causing a national crisis and get Dave safely out of the White House and back to his real life.

Ignore him, please!

2014 Ignore him please

In the past 48 hours, the Obama White House has joined the Democratic fundraising apparatus in what appears to be a campaign to encourage Republicans to impeach the president. House Speaker John Boehner says it’s all a Democrat scam to boost fund-raising.

“We have no plans to impeach the president.”

For once, I agree with Boehner. I think the worst thing we can do to the Narcissist-in-Chief is to IGNORE him. Let’s just get on with things as if he were exactly what he’s made himself … irrelevant.
