A Matter of Principle – Our GOP Nominee vs. Obama
By angelaisms – April 11, 2012

Over the course of the last week, I kept running into people (so to speak) in comments, on Twitter, and calling into radio shows, who all stated uncategorically that there was no way this side of a bunny-ridden hell that they would ever ever ever vote for Willard “Mittens” Romney, even if he’s the guy with the “R” next to his name on the 2012 Presidential ballot. And each time, I darn near hit the ceiling – quite a feat for someone as vertically challenged as I am.

“It’s a matter of principle! We’ll teach that GOP a lesson!” they exclaim, firmly planting a Gadsden flag at their feet and giving the world the sort of stare that dares you to go ahead and “make their day.”

What they seem to miss is that they’ve planted that flagpole, not at their feet, but through their feet.

Obama’s rate of debt increase is THREE TIMES Bush’s

July 3, 2008: The day before Independence Day, Candidate Obama said that it was irresponsible and unpatriotic of Bush to allow the national debt to rise by $4 Trillion over his 8 years in office. What is three times worse than irresponsible and unpatriotic? Criminal and treasonous?

In 2008, Obama said that Bush added $4 Trillion to the national debt “all by his lonesome.” Not that he wants to take sole credit for the $6 Trillion that’s piled on since he moved into the Oval Office. We wouldn’t want to confuse the issues by noting that it’s Congress that writes the budget or that it was the Democrat-controlled Congress that took over in 2007 that did most of the debting Obama attributed to Bush.

At least, under Bush, Congress actually produced a budget. The Democrats who have been in charge of the Senate since Obama took office don’t much bother themselves about doing what is undoubtedly their single most important job and something they are paid handsomely to perform … but don’t, because they’re way too busy blaming the Republican minority for keeping Obama from creating Ameritopia. This is also what Obama does whenever the debt comes up. Blame Bush. Blame Republicans.

It’s astonishing how much raw power one acquires simply by checking R on a voter registration card, isn’t it?

Republican Bush managed to add $4 Trillion to the national debt “all by his lonesome” and the Republican minority under Obama has managed to block just about everything poor old Obama and his good-hearted Democrat majority have tried to do over the past three years!

I really must look in the back of my closet. Seems to me, there should be a red, white and blue Spandex body suit back there somewhere. I wonder if it has a cape.

Hare didn’t care

In the video, Hare claims to have read the bill multiple time. He is challenged on that score with a little math. The bill is 2,700 pages long. Calculating a minute per page to read and comprehend, just one reading would take 45 hours. Multiple readings? Puh-leeze.

Hare also could not specify where in the Constitution it gave Congress the right to force people to buy products they don’t want. The Constitution is 6 pages long.

Even the Supreme Court justices who are considering its constitutionality are loathe to actually READ the whole of the so-called Affordable Care Act.

After a lawyer suggested the justices might go through the bill and decide which parts were constitutional, Justice Scalia said, “You really want us to go through these 2,700 pages? And do you really expect the court to do that? What happened to the Eight Amendment?” (The Eight Amendment prohibits cruel and unusual punishment.)

Obama also reminded Conservatives that we have complained about judicial activism, as if should should automatically agree with him that SCOTUS should keep their mitts off ObamaCare. But the judicial activism that we abhor is justices making rulings based on how they personally feel about an issue, rather than on what the Constitution of the United States says about it … like this guy: https://polination.wordpress.com/2012/03/24/another-supreme-who-ignored-the-law/

Balance of Power: The 2012 Senate Toss-Ups

Democrats currently hold 53 seats in the United States Senate.

67 sitting Senators are not up for reelection.  If none leave, say to serve in the next President’s cabinet or something, they will bring 30 Democrat seats and 37 Republican seats to the 113th Congress.

33 seats are up for reelection. An analysis of these races by Larry Sabato, director of the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics, resulted in 16 that will probably go Democrat and 9 that will probably go Republican, resulting in absolute balance between parties at 46 to 46.

According to Sabato’s analysis, eight races can’t be called. These are:

1. Florida – Rep. Connie Mack IV (R) and incumbent Sen. Bill Nelson (D) are neck and neck, with a large number of undecideds.

2. Massachusetts – MA is a deep Blue State, but Republican Sen. Scott Brown (R) has been making all the right moves lately. Politics isn’t all about the issues, and to the extent Brown can make this race more about Bay State blue-collar culture, and less about specific issue stances, the better his chances become.

3. Missouri – Incumbent Sen. Claire McCaskill (D) is trailing all of her potential GOP challengers at Rasmussen, but the primary won’t be until Aug. 7, so it will be awhile before we know who is actually running against her.

4. Montana – The incumbent, Sen. Jon Tester (D), is running about even with the likely GOP challenger, Rep. Denny Rehberg (R).

5. Nevada – Rep. Shelley Berkley (D) is running to unseat appointed incumbent Sen. Dean Heller (R). No clear advantage to either at this point.

6. New Mexico – Democrat Jeff Bingaman is retiring. The parties have yet to choose their candidates.

7. Virginia – Democrat Jim Webb is retiring. The likely ballot this fall will be George Allen (R) vs. Tim Kaine (D). Many say this will be the most competitive Senate race in the country.

8. Wisconsin – Democrat Herb Kohl is retiring. The Senate primary won’t be until Aug. 14.

If Sabato’s analysis is correct, the race for partisan control of the Senate will be agonizingly tight.

I can see November from my house!

We all know we got creamed in 2008. Obama won 9.6 million more popular votes than McCain. And McCain lost by 192 electoral votes, which was more than the 173 he held (365 – 173 = 192).

So imagine my surprise when I compared GALLUP’S 2008 Party Strength by State data with the 2008 election results by State. Going into that election, Democrats had a 10% or higher advantage over Republicans in 30 States … but Obama only won 29 States!

I’m thinking that talk radio and the internet had a much bigger impact on the 2008 election than I ever thought and that Democrats, who can now boast of a 10% or higher advantage in only 12 States, are in a world of hurt.
