A Lesson on the Real America By Kevin Jackson

Also, check out Ebony and Ivory Two Nekkid Heads Tour …
“This tour is about an inter-racial couple being able to travel the entire country celebrating extremes. Joe is white, Kevin is black. The chasm just doesn’t get any wider than that, unless of course if Kevin was darker—Joe can’t get any whiter.” (That’s Joe the Plumber, btw.)

Kevin says, “Why it has become taboo in America to embrace our differences is beyond me. We are one Unhyphenated America, where neither color nor culture matters. ”
ITA. And on a personal note … I’m “the Hyphenated” because of my last name.

I have been completely tied up with out of town guests and wedding festivities ( a friend’s son, not my children!) so I feel like I know nothing except that the VCU Rams lost. Someone at the wedding reception had an iPad and the band would announce the score every so often. I am not as young as I used to be and high heels are for the young – those are the lessons of the weekend.

Sore feet on middle aged women in heels always remind me of a very touching moment at the wake of a young neighbor who lost her valiant battle with an aggressive spinal tumor at age 19.
After having 98% of the tumor excised, surgeons installed a steel rod in her back and she lost use of her lower body. But Mary Pat was so brave, she just went ahead and finished high school and found a wheel-chair accessible college.
Her folks installed the prettiest ramp I’ve ever seen. Dearest does ADA architecture work, so we pay a lot of attention to ramps. He does nice ones, but whoever did this one really outdid even Dearest. It actually enhanced the look of the house! That’s a real accomplishment.
At Christmas, Mary Pat put together the “Chocolate Cookie Choir” of little ones for the Family Mass and showed up with her wheels festooned with battery powered colored lights.
Sadly, she only made it through one semester of college, though, before the tumor grew back and forced her home. She died the following November.
At her wake, her mom kicked off her shoes and while rubbing her sore feet remarked wryly, “Mary Pat would’ve told me I was stupid to wear these shoes!”
Is it any wonder the church was PACKED for the funeral?
