SO WHEN ARE WE ALLOWED TO BE INTOLERANT?

“The commercial had many participants, all of them wearing tee-shirts with the phrase “Don’t stand for intolerance” on them.”
IOW, they’re saying we should be intolerant of intolerance. Ummmmm … oooooookay. NOT.
The author asks, “Are we supposed to be tolerant of actions we find abhorrent?”
Yeah. What about that? Huh? The Left is very intolerant of … well, just about everything I hold dear. Believing in and patterning one’s life after the teachings in the Bible. Choosing a single religious community to belong to. Celibacy. Natural Family Planning. Joining the military. Being proud of our kids who join the military. Voting Republican. Hanging the flag on national holidays. Praying in front of abortion clinics.
They claim to be all “follow your own path” unless anything about that path happens to smack of Right-Wingerism, like tidy hair cuts and modest dress. They’re all “back to nature” unless you are actually living in a rural community in one of those bitter clinger flyover states that votes Republican, in which case you’re a slope-headed country bumpkin.
I’m so sick of these pretentious, judgmental people.

I think the only one of Obama’s quotes in this article with which I can agree is that: “Karl Rove is a political hack.”
This really is a good analysis of the Politician in Chief.

Isn’t that Rev. Wright’s line? I wonder who found this, and what the situation was. I’m not sure that it would have made a difference, though, because I think a lot of guilty-feeling people voted for him on a purely emotional basis.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the majority of whites (dyed-in-the-wool Democrats excepted) who voted for him did so for that very reason — in an attempt to expiate their own (false) guilt for the sins of their forebears.

I concur. Before I got a clue, the primary emotion driving my political attachment to liberalism was GUILT. Or more properly SHAME.
I was ashamed to be white and using the Earth’s precious and limited resources to continue my own sorry, selfish, greedy, white American existence.
One year, I scraped up enough to support a brown child living in a third world ghetto. A liberal minister I knew castigated me for this, because the “real problem” was political and social injustice.
I mean … cripes. I couldn’t even win for losing. Is it any wonder I came so close to suicide in high school or that so many young people have actually done it?

Chrissy, my experience was similar. I became a liberal while going through my adolescent rebellion (my parents always voted straight Republican, so becoming a Democrat seemed like the logical thing for me to do), and I remember feeling an oppressive sense of guilt because I was descended from southern slaveholders. I was also really into environmental activism and joined a save-the-earth club at my high school. I bought the overpopulation myth, joined ZPG, and after a series of unhappy relationships with worthless guys, I became a radical feminist.
I wasn’t old enough to vote until the 1972 election, but I ended up not voting that year because neither Nixon nor McGovern was able to give me a persuasive reason to vote for him — in truth, they were about equally uninspiring and unappealing. So I passed up my chance to vote Democrat and cancel out the vote of at least one of my parents.
I had a second chance in 1976, when I could have voted for Jimmy Carter. But that election happened to coincide with a year I spent in a religious ministry (I’m tempted to call it a cult) with a lot of incredibly naive and uninformed/misinformed people who were absolutely in love with Carter because he claimed to be born again. These people actually believed that if Carter were elected, it would solve our country’s problems, because the Lord Almighty Himself would tell Jimmy how to fix everything. I was still quite young and not politically savvy, but even I was smart enough to know that just having a president who claims to be born again — or even having one who really IS born again — solves nothing all by itself. I got so disgusted by all these deluded dimwits having absolute orgasms over Jimmy Carter that I felt duty bound to cancel out at least one of their votes, so I ended up voted for Gerald Ford.
By 1980 I had finally matured a little and was better informed, and I voted for Ronald Reagan. “When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; but when I became a man [or woman, in my case], I put away childish things.”

I’m blushing here … did not have orgasms over Carter, but I definitely thought that having a born again president would mean we’d be getting God’s leadership. My long recovery from hearting Jimmy is a lot of what drives my compassion for O’bots now. I was just so shocked and dismayed and embarrassed that I’d believed so much in someone who was such a twat. The absotively last straw was hearing that the Baptists living in the vaunted “dry” White House had Bloody Marys before church on Sunday. I’m no tea-totaller and could not care less about the alcohol. It was the hypocrisy that just sickened me.

For the record, that Fluke woman said she’d spent $3,000 in 3 years, not one year. The lady in the video said one year. Anyway, the fact she said it this way AND that it’s an absurd about for just contraception leads me to figure she’s gotta have had at least one abortion in there. And that IS NOT CONTRACEPTION.
