Ha! What Chrissy doesn’t tell you is that I’m just getting back at her for having routed me in our last game.
And that POLARIZE was just dumb luck! The POL and the Z were already on the board, and I had an A and an R on my rack… and I thought to myself, “Wouldn’t it be funny if I drew an I and and E, and then I could make POLARIZE?” And then… it happened. I guess Lexicon, the god of Scrabble, was smiling down on me today. (Actually, if you play Scrabble enough, bizarre things like that are bound to happen every now and then.)

I don’t really have time to play these days, but if I did: I’m never playing with you two!

I’m with you, Ting. That goes double for me! 😯

Blogging and playing Scrabble on FB are how I keep what little remains of my sanity these days. (It’s also how I avoid doing housework.)

Ditto sanity (and housework). 🙂 But I like to use the grand excuse that I’m exercising my brain and warding off senility. So it’s NOT goofing off! It’s mental PT. Ha! Besides one play a day is not that time consuming and I so enjoy it. Yeah, okay, I’ve got four games going at once (2 with bob and 2 with Mama Buzz), but that’s STILL not all that much. Really!
And I don’t recall pasting bob in the last game. I think she’s just being kind. If I do paste her, you better believe all y’all will hear about it LOL. But I’ll be kind and only tuck it into comments somewhere, not make a whole BLOG thing with a graphic.
Maybe if I ever ever beat Mama Buzz, I’ll BLOG it, because she is SO good with words, I will really need to TOOT MY HORN if I outdo her. She taught herself to read at 4 (we’re expecting Lil Buzz to follow suit any minute now the way he STUDIES his books) and took two languages for years in high school. Sometimes she’d goof and answer in the wrong language and the teacher would roll her eyes and remind her which language this class was LOL.

My eldest daughter whups me in Scrabble, too. She has an IQ that’s up in the stratosphere somewhere, an enormous vocabulary, and (most crucially) she has the strategy down to a very fine art. She routinely makes three and sometimes four bingos a game. It would be funny to team her up with Mama Buzz and see what happened; probably end up in a draw. 🙂
I agree — Scrabble is definitely NOT goofing off. Just because I use it for housework avoidance purposes doesn’t make it a time-waster. You have to do something to keep those brain cells engaged, and besides, you learn so many new interesting words in the process! I call it continuing education. 😀

Your dd would whup my dd. We’re a Scrabble family, but two Bingos in one game is rare and cause to photograph the board. LOL

Well, you definitely learn a LOT by playing with someone who is better than you are. Although she routinely whups me — or maybe because she routinely whups me — she has caused me to improve my game a lot… to the point where every once in a while I actually win a game against her (if Lexicon smiles on me and gives me really good letters and/or both blanks). 😀

Just out of curiosity, what languages did Mama Buzz study in HS?

Speaking of little ones, Monkey Mama and Monkey Daddy called for our anniversary and told us about hearing Baby Monkey’s heartbeat. Sigh. I remember how magical that was. 🙂

But…. but… it’s just a mass of undifferentiated cells! How can it have a heartbeat?

Aliens. You know, the ones that seeded our planet with first life by shipping us little bacteria cells on the backs of crystals.

Okay, thanks for clearing that up.

I’m impressed. But… but… “Charlie”? And what’s “Qi” if it’s not Chinese? We never allowed proper names or abbreviations or non-English words when we were young. Just another obvious instance of the degradation of our society’s rules. (Of course, when we looked through the “official” Scrabble word books, there were all kinds of weirdness… especially with which to use high-point letters on triple-letter squares!)
I thought I had this written up already, but couldn’t find it, so I wrote it anew.
My best Scrabble story. Me & my little sister.

I was very grateful when they FINALLY published an official SCRABBLE dictionary. It stopped the endless fights between my hyper-competitive father and brother.
The Christmas it came out, brother found it and IMMEDIATELY looked up a word that had been in contention and the source of many semi-good-hearted arguments. His version was in the book, so he got it for Pop. The instant Pop opened it, HE looked up the word while we all HOWLED, knowing that OF COURSE, it was exactly what brother had done when he saw it in the bookstore and OF COURSE, brother must’ve been proven right or he wouldn’t have bought the book! LOL
My personal wish-they’d-add is EW. I use it all the time, but the rule is, it has to appear in 3 out of the 5 top dictionaries the Scrabble people decided were definitive. Maybe some day it’ll make it.

QI is the vital energy believed to circulate round the body in currents. It’s also spelled CHI and KI, but sounds more than anything like that tch noise that means you’re cynically disgusted.

Mindful, the online Scrabble game has a built-in feature that automatically disqualifies any word that doesn’t appear in the official Scrabble dictionary. If you attempt to make an invalid word, it’s rejected. So everything you see on that board is in the Scrabble dictionary. (Oh, and proper names are still invalid; “charlie” is street slang for cocaine.)

I’d thought of good-time Charley and then charlie-horse, but I still say it’s cheating. [bangs board] 😀

Hey, if Scrabble says it’s a word, it’s a word. 🙂

Actually, the game we’re playing is set for the Tournament Word List. The Scrabble Dictionary is another option; I had a word I wanted to use that was in the SC, but not on the TWL so the game wouldn’t allow it.
