Something a Facebook friend said today reminded me of this experience, so I thought I would share:
One time when it was my day for the car, I had just gotten off the highway and was stopped at a red light when I heard a “thunk” under me. When the light turned green, I pulled through the intersection into this very handy little shoulder place that was right there waiting for me, a place that was unusual on that stretch of road.
There was a service station right on the corner, so I hustled over and the mechanic said, “I had nothing to do, so I was just about to close early. You JUST caught me.” He came over to the car, got down and looked underneath, then stood up again and stared at me with goggle eyes.
“HOW did you get this car off the road?!” I mimed a steering motion. He said, “That’s not possible. That thunk you heard was the tie rod breaking off. It connects the steering wheel to the front tire. This car HAS NO STEERING.”
I shrugged and laughed. “They say God protects fools and children and I’m clearly not a child!” He had to TOW the car across the street to fix it, which he was able to do right then, having the time, the skills and all the necessary parts right on hand.
Even then, more miracles abounded. He didn’t take checks and my credit card was maxed out. But I did have an envelope full of hundreds of dollars in cash that I was taking to the bank. It was more than I needed for the car.
I couldn’t wait at the station, being mega allergic to all those hydrocarbons, but there was a mall close by, so he told me how many hours he needed and I went and had some lunch, ran a few errands, pondered my experience and bumped into a friend who asked, “How are you?”
“Alive!” I answered. It had taken a while to realize how PROTECTED I had been, not only to have the steering, mechanic and money, but also to have the tie rod WAIT to fall off until I was OFF the divided highway and safely STOPPED on what was (at that time) a quiet stretch of road.
It still gives me goosebumps.

Great story! And great quote about children and fools. Count me as one of the non-children, too! π

Reminds me of accident I saw right in front of me a couple of years ago. Right in the middle of our town, on a slow residential street I was stopped at a stop sign, with one car in front of me.
All of sudden I saw this black flash as this guy in front started to move forward, after a full stop, and a car was literally airborne after hitting the car in front of me, and flew past and landed across the street at a light pole.
Keep in mind this is a residential street where most people do about 30.
I got out, as did the guy in front of me, who was quite shaken but okay. Since the other car hit the front of his car, he was unharmed. If he had been a foot more into the intersection he would have been dead, broadsided by a car that must of been doing 70.
I looked down the street and the cops already had it blocked. and I look at the other car, but was too stunned to move.
Finally the nice looking young black man who was almost killed, looked and me as I said are you okay? He said,” Yeah, but it is a miracle.
At the last stop sign, I just said a prayer to God, thanking Him for my blessings”.
Wow!
It seems the other driver had a diabetic coma or something and his foot was stuck on the gas.
What is even more of a miracle is that the college campus was 2 blocks down, and then main street where there are always lots of pedestrians. This young man’s prayer not only saved his life, but it saved many others.
