Growing up it got cold. If it was below zero it was really cold. Then at some point somebody started calculating wind chills to make you feel even worse than you already did. It is minus 1 degree as I post this,the chill factor about -10. All the schools and the social events in the area are cancelled today. School districts do not want to risk endangering any students. I can remember a few days when we had an awful lot of snow before they closed the schools and can’t recall ever being closed before because of cold. But that was a much different time and people were made of much sterner stuff.

President Obama last year played golf 56 times, easily bulldozing his previous marking, set just last year, of 46 times in a year and belying claims that he needs lots of golf to relax.
And, methinks he smokes on the golf course, with his friends and low-level staffers sworn to silence. Really, that’s just a guess. But it might explain some of the obsession.
