When my granddad retired, he set about the task of being a total pain in granny’s rear. He was doing pretty well until he got on her last nerve. She had a routine of chores she did every day. What was always fascinating was that she had two televisions, the console in the living room and a little portable on the kitchen counter. She kept up with three different soap operas, “her stories,” as she called them, and she had this amazing talent of being able to tell what was going on with every plot at any given time. 3 stories, 2 TVs.
To save his marriage (and extensive medical bills) grandpa took a part-time job at an Irish bar called O’Keefe’s Tavern. St. Patrick’s Day was a complete blowout. Free corned beef and green beer. The ceilings in this old building were about 14-15 feet high. There was a raggedy, moth-eaten, smelly old moosehead hanging near the top. He said amid the melee, the hubbub and the chaos some nitwit managed to get that stupid moosehead off the wall and get out the back door with it. Bottom line is nobody was ever hurt and the police were never called. Just a bunch of happy drunken Irishmen.

You’d never guess Obama not only voted against Chief Justice John Roberts but also supported a filibuster — that is, he opposed an up-or-down vote — to thwart the confirmation of Samuel Alito in 2005. Hillary Clinton also opposed Roberts and supported an Alito filibuster. Both Roberts and Alito won confirmation with Democratic support — which tells you they were qualified but not immune to the sort of partisan opposition that Obama now finds distasteful.

Totenberg: GOP Sent Obama ‘Backchannel’ Message Will Move SCOTUS Nomination After Election
MAKE NO MISTAKE…THE FIX IS IN
On today’s With All Due Respect, NPR legal affairs correspondent Nina Totenberg broke some news, saying she thought President Obama “got a message from Republicans via backchannels that they would probably move this [Supreme Court] nomination after the presidential election.”
Let’s game-plan this out. If it means that Senate Republicans would move to confirm President Obama’s pick of Merrick Garland even if a Republican were elected president, it would be a huge backstab of the Republican base. But if Republicans would only move Garland if a Dem wins, thus depriving Hillary or whomever of the chance to nominate an unreconstruced radical, then it could be a crafty maneuver. Totenberg added that once Obama got such a concession, Dems would “work very hard” to get other concessions, forcing a hearing and a vote.
