Palm Sunday

READING for the PROCESSION of the PALMS: When Jesus and the disciples drew near Jerusalem and came to Bethphage on the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find an ass tethered, and a colt with her. Untie them and bring them here to me. And if anyone should say anything to you, reply, ‘The master has need of them.’ Then he will send them at once.” This happened so that what had been spoken through the prophet might be fulfilled: Say to daughter Zion,”Behold, your king comes to you, meek and riding on an ass,and on a colt, the foal of a beast of burden.”

The disciples went and did as Jesus had ordered them. They brought the ass and the colt and laid their cloaks over them, and he sat upon them. The very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and strewed them on the road. The crowds preceding him and those following kept crying out and saying: “Hosanna to the Son of David; blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord; hosanna in the highest.” And when he entered Jerusalem the whole city was shaken and asked, “Who is this?” And the crowds replied, “This is Jesus the prophet, from Nazareth in Galilee.” ~ Matthew 21:1-11

NEW YORK SUCKS: Bairon Posada-Hernandez is a Honduran citizen with a lengthy rap sheet who has been deported from the U.S. four times. He was back here again where New York’s taxpayers have been providing him with free shelter. Instead of making the most of our hospitality to better himself, he decided to extend his stay indefinitely by murdering Richard Williams (83). Williams, an Air Force veteran, father, grandfather, and cancer survivor, died from injuries suffered after Pieceoshit-Hernandez pushed him onto subway tracks in NYC’s upper east side.

TRUMP: Reggie Tanesha wrote, “I used to view Donald Trump simply as a solid, effective president… someone who delivered results on the economy, borders, and foreign policy without all the usual political polish.

“But over time, I’ve come to see something much bigger: the entire American political system has been rotten and corrupt for decades. It’s not just isolated scandals or bad actors; it’s a deeply entrenched network of career politicians, unelected bureaucrats, lobbyists, intelligence agencies, and media gatekeepers who operate as a self-protecting “uniparty” or “swamp.”

“They prioritize their own power, insider deals, endless wars, and special interests over the actual needs of everyday Americans. Elections often feel like theater, with the same outcomes no matter who wins—more debt, more control, more erosion of freedoms.

“What sets Trump apart is that he’s the only major figure in modern politics who’s truly taken on that machine head-on and actually shaken it. Previous leaders talked tough about reform but ultimately played along with the system, got rich from it, or were too tied into it to challenge it meaningfully.

“Donald Trump, as a DC outsider who didn’t need their approval or their money, has exposed the corruption, fought back against weaponized institutions, and forced the hidden power structures into the open… even when it meant relentless attacks, impeachments, indictments, and lawfare aimed directly at him and his children.

“He’s far from perfect, and the battle is far from over, but for the first time in my lifetime, someone has genuinely threatened the status quo and refused to back down. That’s why the pushback against him has been so ferocious: he represents the real possibility of dismantling the corrupt system rather than just managing it.

“To me, supporting him now isn’t just about one good presidency… it’s about finally having a fighter who’s willing to take on the whole rigged game for the sake of the country, and God help us if he fails.”

WHITE HOUSE: The old mud-colored pavers have been removed and are being replaced with black granite. Trump is personally paying for the new tiles, which will provide a stronger visual contrast with the white columns.

  1. PROCESSION of the PALMS

    Those were the waving hands.🙂

    Caiaphas:

“Tell the rabble to be quiet
    We anticipate a riot
    This common crowd
    Is much too loud

“Tell the mob who sing your song
That they are fools and they are wrong
    They are a curse.
    They should disperse.”

    Jesus:

“Why waste your breath moaning at the crowds?
NOTHING can be done to stop the shouting!
If every tongue were stilled, the noise would still continue.
    The rocks and stones themselves
    would start to SING!”

For all its many faults, Jesus Christ Superstar had some great bits. Of course, it had the best source material.

I’ve always thought, the great thing about Jesus saying the stones themselves would cry out (Luke 19:40) is, he wasn’t just speaking metaphorically. It was one of the most powerful moments in history. However superficial and fickle the mobs turned out to be later.

    • Whenever I look at a beautiful cathedral, it reminds me of Jesus saying that the stones themselves would sing.

I love that! My sneering brother once said the Catholic Church was evil to spend so much money on churches instead of helping the poor. (Like we don’t do that more than anybody besides …) Anyway, I have often thought that, because of those churches, the poor got to enjoy, worship in, and celebrate milestones in buildings of incredible and soul-inspiring beauty the likes of which only the extremely wealthy could have otherwise.

I’ve been delving into our genealogy more lately and, with the internet, can actually see the churches our ancestors attended, were baptized and married in. These people weren’t wealthy, but boy howdy, did they get to feel like it! Meanwhile, we who have so much more materially than they did, worship in “modern” sanctuaries. Meh.

        • My sentiments exactly. There’s no excuse for the ugliness of modern church architecture. If people could build beautiful churches centuries ago — buildings that have lasted all this time — employing the primitive technology and construction equipment available to them, then we moderns are absolutely without excuse.

I feel the same way about books and other printed material. Look at the magnificent illuminated manuscripts produced in the middle ages, before the printing press, using parchment and quills and working by candlelight. How did they create those magnificent works of art, while nowadays most books are utilitarian and unimpressive, if not downright ugly? Seems as if it should be the other way around.
