Which man do you trust?

Please take time for this one. I think it gets straight to the heart of the single most important issue in this or any campaign — character. I especially encourage you to listen to the video linked below. The story is touching, but beyond that, I think Mitt’s delivery is worth noting. He talks about “we” a lot and minimizes his own contributions and sacrifices. Compare that with how Barack talks (and talks and talks) about himself.

Obama and Romney: Character Shows By Karin McQuillan – July 9, 2012
http://www.americanthinker.com/2012/07/obama_and_romney_character_shows.html

Character is consistent.  Voters say moral character is one of the most important things they look for in choosing the president.  The character of a public figure can be hard to discern amidst a fog of self-advertising, media hype, and the distorting effects of TV.  That is why personal stories about Romney and Obama, before they were candidates, are crucial.  Voters want to understand what kind of man they are electing.

An unusual personal story gives us insight into Mitt Romney.  It is 1996.  Mitt Romney is the head of Bain Capital in Boston.  One of his employees comes to him, utterly distraught.  His 14-year-old daughter snuck out of the house to go to a rave in New York and has been missing for three days.  One of her teen friends said he gave her ecstasy and that he last saw her partying under a bridge.

Did Romney offer sympathy and hope?  Write a check for a private detective?  Wait for the government to solve it?  No — he took responsibility.  He took action.  He shut down the firm and brought all the employees to New York.  For 48 hours, they scoured the streets, going everywhere, asking teenagers if they’d seen the missing girl.  Romney called on business associates to send more people to help until they numbered 200.  He printed 300,000 fliers and got Duane Reade, one of Bain’s success stories, to put fliers in every shopper’s bag in their 52 stores.  Romney set up a hotline.  A broken-off phone call was traced; the girl was discovered in the basement of a house in New Jersey and reunited with her family.

“Mitt’s done a lot of things that are nearly impossible, but for me the most important thing he’s ever done was to help save my daughter,” says the girl’s father.

Hear Romney describe what happened in this YouTube video of a town hall meeting.

Numbers not good for Obama Democrats

I think the following poll numbers make it crystal clear that all we need to do is identify what a voter’s hot button issues are and show him or her the relevant facts.

GENERAL

Rasmussen national polls of Likely Voters

July 1, 2012: Is the country better off today than it was four years ago?

Yes 30% vs. No 60% vs. Not sure 10%

July 6, 2012: How would you rate Obama’s handling of economic issues?

Good 31% vs. Poor 48% vs. Not sure 21%

Check out the “squeamish about racism” factor in the two questions above. The Yes/Good group is virtually identical. But when the question mentions Obama personally, 11% of the No voters jump into the Not Sure category.

June 11, 2012: The next president will likely be …

Democrat 25% vs. Republican 60% vs. Not sure 15%

When Obama first took office, 44% thought a Republican would replace him.

UNION

Gallup poll of Registered Voters

June 11, 2012: If the election was today, who would you vote for:

Union members: Obama 57% vs. Romney 35%

2008 Election

Union members: Obama 59% vs. McCain 39%

Currently, only about 12% of employed voters are union members. In 2008, 21% of voters reported coming from union households.

BLACKS

Public Policy Polling surveys of Blacks in North Carolina

If the election were today, who would you vote for?

May 2012: Obama 87% vs. Romney 11% vs. 2% Undecided

June 2012: Obama 76% vs. Romney 20% vs. 4% Undecided

Election 2008: About 13% of voters were Black. 95% of them voted for Obama.

JEWS

Siena College polls of New York Jews

May 2012: Obama Support 62% vs. Oppose 32%

June 2012: Obama Support 51% vs. Oppose 43%

June 2012: America is on the right track 31% vs. headed in the wrong direction 62%

OBAMA’S IDEOLOGICAL BASE

Rasmussen poll of Adult Americans

July 5, 2012: Are you proud of America?

No 7% vs. Yes 84% vs. Meh 9%

Obama’s “Betting on America” tour

Obama spent July 5 and 6 tooling around Ohio in his Canadian-made bus telling everyone how Very Committed He Is to Economic Growth and Job Creation for Americans.

Click on graphic to embiggen.

Ohio is an important swing state. Obama won it in 2008 by 4%. A recent Quinnipiac poll claimed he is ahead of Romney 47% to 38% among Registered Voters in Ohio. But I compared the poll samples with Gallup’s Party Affiliation poll and found a significant skew.

                        Quin    Gallup

Democrat        34%     30%

Republican     26%     30%

Independent    34%    39%

Meh                     6%        1%

I also found a somewhat older, but specific-to-Ohio poll at Gallup that, with leaners, showed Ohio at:

Democrat 42.5% vs. Republican 41.2% vs. 16.3% Neither.

I looks to me like Quinnipiac gave Democrats a totally unrealistic 8 point advantage! No WAY is Obama leading Romney by nine points. Sheesh.

Look what happens when Quinnipiac’s results are adjusted to line up with Gallup’s numbers.

Q. Vote for Obama   47% – 4% = 43%

Gallup: Ohio Democrat                 42.5%

Q. Vote for Romney   38% + 4% = 42%

Gallup:  Ohio Republican               41.2%

Q. Other, Undecided, Wouldn’t Vote   15%

Gallup Ohio Neither Party Preference 16.3%

Isn’t it interesting how closely the adjusted numbers match Gallup’s 2011 numbers?

Now check out what Rasmussen found when they polled Likely Voters in Ohio recently.

                 April    May

Obama   46%     44%

Romney  42%    46%

Neither    12%    10%

People know Obama. I can’t help thinking that anyone who is likely to vote for him is already committed to him and that the more we get to see of Romney, the more we’ll see of the same kind of shift away from Obama/Neither and toward Romney.

The defining characteristic of the Obama presidency

Below is the best summary I’ve seen of Obama’s first term. If you’re talking to someone who has finally gotten a clue and wants to play catch up before November, I doubt you could do better than to give them a copy of this article. Something will surely jump out, begging to be investigated more thoroughly and there are plenty of names and keywords provided for googling.

Contempt: The Defining Characteristic of the Obama Presidency By Mark W. Hendrickson – July 7, 2012

From the very beginning, many writers, scholars, and commentators have attempted to define the essence of Barack Obama’s presidency.

It isn’t easy to find a simple label for such a multifaceted individual. On any given day, Obama may seem like a play-for-keeps Chicago pol who rubs elbows with some shady characters; a hardcore environmentalist wedded to a radical green agenda; a crony capitalist with surprisingly close ties to deep-pocketed corporate interest groups; a progressive wanting to sunder the chains of the constitution to hugely expand government à la Franklin Delano Roosevelt; a Jimmy Carter clone, whose foreign policy is marked by turning his back on America’s allies while wooing, if not embracing, the leaders of unfriendly regimes; a Fabian socialist, too cagey to advocate outright socialism, but always in favor of more government economic planning and more redistribution of wealth; a hardcore radical with close personal and ideological ties to various militant revolutionaries (e.g., Bill Ayers), political revolutionaries (e.g., Saul Alinsky), and communists (e.g., Frank Marshall Davis, who is the subject of my colleague Paul Kengor’s newest book, The Communist).

All these assessments ring true, but they are incomplete. The ideological influences acting upon Barack Obama are multifarious. There is, however, an attitudinal quality that seems to be the common denominator linking those ideological underpinnings. The salient, definitive characteristic of the man and his presidency was crystalized for me when Congress cited his attorney general for contempt.

Walking back on another ethical issue

There’s nothing illegal about displaying the presidential seal at a political event. Most sitting presidents have done it. What’s obnoxious is the holier than thou policy they announced back in 2010 and are now ignoring.

It reminds me of Obama’s 2007 promise to use public campaign financing if his opponent did. That ethical standard was also abandoned when Obama started raking in millions and McCain had committed to the public spending limit of $84.1 million.

In fact, Obama was the first major-party presidential candidate to turn down public financing for a general election campaign since the system was created in the aftermath of Watergate.

And, being the schmuck he is, he said he was ONLY doing it because we had such a broken system and Republicans are so eeeeeeeeeeeevil that they game that broken system to win elections.

Riiight. It had NOTHING at ALL to do with the hundreds of millions you had pouring in to your campaign. Just like deciding to use the presitigious Presidential Seal at campaign events has NOTHING at ALL to do with your sagging support and crummy poll numbers. /sarc

Whiney little twerp

Barack Obama: The Story by Pulitzer Prize-winning historian and Washington Post editor David Maraniss hit the book stores last month. It presents some three dozen discrepancies between documented facts and the account of his life that Barack Obama presented in his 1995 memoir, Dreams From My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance.

The Bridge: The Life and Rise of Barack Obama, a 2010 book by David Remnick, the editor of The New Yorker magazine, also judged Dreams to be “a mixture of verifiable fact, recollection, recreation, invention, and artful shaping.”

Two of the discrepancies Maraniss reports are about women who allegedly helped Obama embrace his African heritage and reject his White half.

Dreams tells about “Regina,” a black student at Occidental College who allegedly helped the young Obama embrace his African heritage. She was actually based on Michelle Obama, who Barack did not meet until 8 years later.

Dreams also tells about Barack quarreling with a White girlfriend following a Black theater production in Manhattan. Supposedly, this was a terrible experience that left poor Black Barack feeling more acutely estranged from White people than ever. Except, the incident was mostly made up and the closest analog actually happened later in Chicago where said White girlfriend reports Dreams “greatly exaggerated” the drama.

Obama apologists claim it doesn’t matter if Dreams is full of lies.

“I don’t think it much matters whether Barack Obama has told the absolute truth in Dreams From My Father. What’s important is how he wanted to construct his life.”

In other words, it’s no biggie that Barack made up stuff, because it furthers the Aggrieved Black Narrative he has chosen as his own personal life story.

Too bad about all the clear evidence that Barack Obama’s life has been marked by privilege in the form of posh schools and easy career advancement. I mean, if you’re going to write a whole book about how HARD your life has been, it helps if your life has actually been hard.

Maybe if his alcoholic, bigamist father had been White and the family that loved and nurtured, fed, clothed, housed, and educated him from birth to adulthood had been Black, there’d be some teeth in his “aggrieved” schtick. As it is, all I can think is,

“What a self-centered, whiney little twerp, trying to ride the victim coat-tails of people who had actual problems because of their skin color.”
