Saturday, March 19, 2011:
President Obama did not seek, much less get congressional authorization for Operation Odyssey Dawn. And the brief 22 minute span between the end of his 90 minute confab and the beginning of his public announcement strongly suggests he didn’t so much consult with congressional leaders as tell them what he’d already decided to do.
Both Democratic and Republican lawmakers are complaining that Obama exceeded his constitutional authority. The issue of what powers the Constitution grants the U.S. President to unilaterally launch our military into action is much debated. Presidents have done so in the past, both with United Nations authorization, as when George Bush intervened in Somalia in 1992, and without it, as when Bill Clinton ordered the bombing in Kosovo in 1999.
But Obama, the alleged “constitutional scholar”, declared unequivocally in 2007:
The President does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation. As Commander-in-Chief, the President does have a duty to protect and defend the United States. In instances of self-defense, the President would be within his constitutional authority to act before advising Congress or seeking its consent. History has shown us time and again, however, that military action is most successful when it is authorized and supported by the Legislative branch.”
On Monday, March 21, 2011, President Obama sent Congress a two-page letter saying that as commander in chief, he had constitutional authority to authorize the strikes, which he believed were necessary to prevent a humanitarian disaster in Libya.
A humanitarian disaster is certainly a terrible thing that may or may not present problems for us in the Middle East. But it hardly rises to the standard Obama himself set — i.e., an “actual or imminent threat to the nation” requiring military action in the nation’s “self-defense.”
So how did ABC, CBS and NBC report all this?
Saturday, March 19, 2011:
Uh … guys. Obama may believe international collaboration makes it all hunky-dory, but our laws say no foreign power gets to decide when and where U.S. troops will go into harm’s way.

Tuesday, March 22, 2011:
The above makes for an illuminating contrast with how these same networks reported on a similar situation in 2002. Back when the president was a Republican, ABC World News, ABC This Week and CBS Face the Nation all did segments on whether the Bush administration would have the unmitigated gall to launch military action against Saddam Hussein without congressional approval.
The networks also provided slanted to the point of being untruthful reporting on the sentiments in Congress during the four weeks leading up to the actual vote authorizing the Iraq War. During that time, the networks broadcast 51 for-or-against sound bites by members of Congress.
On October 11, 2002, Congress voted to grant legal authority to use military force if Iraq.
CNN reported, “The outcome of the vote was never in doubt.” Wow. It looks to me as if folks depending on the broadcast networks for the news would have felt a NEGATIVE outcome was never in doubt … which just goes to support a point I made the other day. I.e., it’s no wonder liberals don’t know nuthin’.

For a man who ran as the anti-war candidate, President Obama sure is trigger-happy. … It’s time somebody took the Weinberger Doctrine off the shelf and dusted if off. Limiting the wars we fight rather than fighting limited wars is starting to look good again.

Excerpt:
The lack of clarity, the Obama White House insists, is a virtue, including having a commander in chief who’s out of the country while it’s bombs away. It’s the first war run by a multitasking telecommander.
Of course, that’s how Mayor “Bermuda” Bloomberg supervised New York’s response to the Christmas blizzard. That went so well, there’s no reason why Obama shouldn’t continue his working vacation while he launches a third war in the Mideast.
Besides, if it doesn’t succeed — no “victory” allowed — it will be Hillary’s fault. She and other war-mongering fems talked him into it, you know.
MEANWHILE:
I’m not holding my breath that Obama will listen to anyone but his own Leftist groupies about Libya or any other dang thing.

I finally got a round tuit on a project I’ve been wanting to do ever since I heard a clip of Oblahblah saying to his drooly lady fans on The View that the IMPORTANT thing is not how we label each other, but how we treat each other.
I did it as a slide show style album, so it has a beginning, middle and end. It’s too long to post here, but I’ve included two sample slides to whet your appetite. The link to the whole deal is below.
I included only 28 of the possible examples I had in my archives. And I gotta say … it’s pretty damning. The last image in the “foul sign language” sequence curdles my blood every time I even think about it. The look on his face … wooie.

I altered the text somewhat, because Obama is NOT a lawyer and that’s something I think needs to be more generally known. He WAS a lawyer. So was Michelle. But NEITHER of them is a lawyer now. He retired. She had her license revoked by court order.
See more detailed evidence in Much Ado About Nothing Much album

A lawyer I know mentioned to me that her assistant is a former lawyer. I was puzzled and asked her how someone becomes a former lawyer. She said a few people, like her assistant, go through all the pain and expense of law school and passing the bar exam, then find out they HATE being lawyers and voluntarily retire or simply allow their licenses to lapse.
But most former lawyers lose their licenses because they misbehave. Some have their licenses revoked by court order. Others formally retire rather than face charges that could become public record.
When Michelle and Barack were asked about their lack of law licenses, they said they had decided not to waste money on license renewals because they’d decided to “sacrifice” themselves and work in the public sector. This is how they became multi-millionaires with a lifetime pension and never-ending, gold-plated health care benefits … by sacrificing themselves on the altar of public service.
Anyway, it’s a lot of bologna. The cost of keeping a professional license current is minimal; the cost of getting re-licensed is enormous. Doctors, nurses, architects, lawyers etc. … they don’t let their licenses lapse to save a few bucks, even if they don’t plan to practice again any time soon. It’s prestigious to have the license, it’s handy if a loved one needs a favor, and anyway, they might want to practice down the road, maybe dabble part time.
Besides, I found evidence of three very high profile career politicians who not only kept their law licenses current, but who had them suspended or revoked only after they left office. The reasons the courts cited may shed light on why the Obamas are no longer authorized to practice.
Bill Clinton, Governor of Arkansas and President of the United States, had his law license suspended by the court for 5 years (with a $25,000 fine) for “giving knowingly evasive and misleading discovery responses concerning his relationship with Monica Lewinsky.”

Spiro Agnew, Governor of Maryland and Vice President of the United States, lost his license after he left the White House. The court noted that disbarment follows as a matter of course “when a member of the bar is shown to be willfully dishonest for personal gain by means of fraud, deceit, cheating or like conduct.”
http://news.webshots.com/photo/2557589840056011884zrNVjt
Richard Nixon, Congressman, Vice President and President, had his law license stripped after he left the White House, because the court found him guilty of the “most serious offense” of obstructing justice in the Watergate affair.

I’ve been graphicking up a storm … way too much new stuff to put it ALL up here, so I thought I’d do something like what we GOP Bitter Clingers call Pot Luck and Democrats snootily refer to as Amuse Bouche.
But since it’s for Chrissy’s Site Bites, I thought I’d call it Amuse Yeux cuz I took French once upon a time. And I know how to Google Translate what I don’t remember from Madame Diamond.
So … did you get it? Amuse yeux, delight the eyes? Sound bite, bite sized ideas in graphics, sight bites? A web site for sight bites = site bites?
I figgered you conservative bumpkins might need it explained. [Not really. Just feeling snarky after graphicking all this nastiness from the oh-so-tolerant elitist Left.]
