Think of the children, for goodness sake

Christianity has done more for science than atheism ever could By Matt Walsh

The new Common Core “Next Generation” science standards … call for a renewed emphasis on man-caused climate change and, of course, evolution. Evolution — atheistic, nihilistic, materialistic, mindless evolution — must be taught as fact, without other ideas presented to compete with the theory.

Too often Christians cede “science” to the atheist and shrink away from his challenges, backing off in defeat while muttering something about “faith” and “belief.” “Well, you might have your fancy science books, but I’ve got faith.”

Yes, faith and belief are important, but you, my Christian compatriot, are standing on the Mountain of Truth. You have the high ground. YOU have the facts and the science on your side.

Your faith does NOT conflict with science. Christianity built this civilization; your Christian ancestors are the pioneers behind the greatest advancements in many fields of study.

You’d be hard pressed to find a single bit of modern scientific knowledge that wasn’t discovered, or heavily influenced by, the work of devout Christians.

Our understanding of the universe deepened so profoundly during the Christian era because of the Christian tradition that brought a sense of order and rationality to the universe.

Really, we must get atheism away from education before we all end up like the modern atheist’s greatest prophet, Nietchsze, who died insane and naked, eating his own feces in a mental institution. This is not the sort of fate we should wish upon our children.

Yearning to possess

This blog by our good friend Angelaisms is so superior, I want to share it with all y’all in toto.  But, in the interests of her hit count at Misfits, I’m only going to whet your appetites and give you a “read the rest” link. 🙂 I hope you will.

A Closer Look at the Tenth Commandment By Angelaisms

The Law of Moses dealt primarily with how one behaves on the outside – don’t steal, don’t sleep around, don’t lie, don’t murder, get rid of that stupid golden calf and don’t make another one, etc. Well, all except that last commandment: “Thou shalt not covet.”

  • Note from CtH: Catholics divide up the Ten Commandments passage slightly differently:
    • 9. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife.
    • 10.You shall not covet your neighbor’s goods.

Coveting is not looking at a guy with a nice car and saying, “Wow, I’d like a car like that.” Coveting is looking at the guy with the nice car and wanting to take his car away from him. It is not the desire to have something; it is the desire to take something to which you have no moral or legal claim – that guy’s car, your brother’s wife, your neighbor’s ass. (What? It’s a quote.)

Thou shalt not covet

Living in Truth

A world inside a drop of water

Living in truth means not only being true to oneself. More precisely it means being truthful, being true to God, for he is the source of all truth. We find the truth about God and about all of reality quite directly in Jesus, who is “the way, and the truth, and the life” (Jn 14:6).

Someone who really follows Jesus brings greater and greater truthfulness into his life. He eliminates all lies, falsehood, pretense, and ambiguity from his accomplishments in life and becomes transparent toward the truth. To believe means to become a witness to the truth.

2013_09 07 Prayer and Fasting for peace

  • Sept. 7, 2013: Pope Francis leads a global day of prayer and fasting for peace.
  • Sept. 10, 2013: Syria accepts a Russian proposal to give up all its chemical weapons and Obama asks Congress to delay votes on authorizing military strikes.

The Blessed Virgin Mary told us at Medjugorje:

“Through fasting and prayer, one can stop wars.”

Undervaluing what we are

Undervaluing what we are

I wrote a little book about this.

Catholic spirituality is geared toward those who overvalue what they are, yet the opposite is so common and certainly is my big spiritual defect.

I didn’t start growing spiritually until I started writing my own prayers or rewriting traditional ones so they corrected rather than aggravated my defect.

E.g., “Oh my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended thee” became “Oh my God, I am heartily sorry for not trusting you enough.”

Catholic teaching on Democracy

The Catholic Church supports democracy, because of all political systems it offers the best conditions for achieving equality before the law and safeguarding human rights. In order to do that, however, democracy must be more than mere majority rule. True democracy is possible only in a State ruled by law that recognizes the fundamental God given rights of all and defends them, if necessary, even against the will of the majority.

History teaches that even democracy offers no absolute protection from violations of human dignity and human rights. It always runs the risk of becoming a tyranny of the majority over a minority. Democracy depends on preconditions that it cannot guarantee in and of itself. That is why Christians in particular must make sure that the values indispensable to a democracy are not undermined.

Salvation is from the Jews by Roy H. Shoeman & Dr. Brant Pitre

The book traces the role of Judaism and the Jewish people in God’s plan for the salvation of mankind, from Abraham through the Second Coming, as revealed by the Catholic faith and by a thoughtful examination of history. It will give Christians a deeper understanding of Judaism, both as a religion in itself and as a central component of Christian salvation.

To Jews it reveals the incomprehensible importance, nobility and glory that Judaism most truly has. It examines the unique and central role Judaism plays in the destiny of the world. It documents that throughout history attacks on Jews and Judaism have been rooted not in Christianity, but in the most anti-Christian of forces.

Areas addressed include: the Messianic prophecies in Jewish scripture; the anti-Christian roots of Nazi anti-Semitism; the links between Nazism and Arab anti-Semitism; the theological insights of major Jewish converts; and the role of the Jews in the Second Coming.

Charity

True charity is one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit. God told us:

“There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward your fellow Israelites who are poor and needy in your land.” -Deuteronomy 15:11

Openhandedness is personal. It’s not about voting for Democrats who promise to pay for social welfare programs by ever higher taxes on other people’s income.

Now look … I am NOT saying all Republicans are good Christians. I’m not even saying all Republicans are good Republicans.

What I am saying is … if you are a Democrat who yearns to know, love and serve the Lord fully, you need to get down to the registrar of voters and uncheck that D … cuz as sure as I’m sitting here,

YOU CAN NOT SERVE BOTH GOD AND THE DNC.

Oregon War Memorial Cross Damaged by IED Blast

Coos Bay Ore cross vandalized 2d time

Aug 23, 2013: Coos Bay, Oregon

Unknown person(s) detonated an Improvised Explosive Device at a Vietnam War Memorial. The cross, donated to the city in 1972, sustained some damage but is still standing.

The cross was also vandalized last May by someone who wrote the word “Remove” on it. A prominent atheist group has been trying to force the community to take the cross down, claiming it “forces Christianity” on unwilling citizens.

2013_08 Try God billboard defaced

Scot Landry, host of The Good Catholic Life radio program weekdays at 4 p.m. on WQOM, remarked that,

“An act against one faith, in some ways, is an act against all faiths, and against all people of faith. This act of vandalism was certainly not a prank. It should cause us to reflect on the subtle and not-so-subtle ways that hostility is increasing against the practice of faith and against religious expression.

People of faith, including Catholics, contribute so much to the fabric of our society in the Boston-area, through social service organizations, hospitals, schools and in little acts of service in every community. The message of “Try God” is a hopeful one as it invites everyone, in some way, to connect with a faith community and participate in building a civilization of love.”

1060 AM WQOM (Boston) offers a combination of national shows from EWTN Radio (Ave Maria Radio, Catholic Answers) and local productions (The Good Catholic Life, daily Mass, and the recitation of the Rosary). Outside of the AM range, you can listen @ wqom.org for computers or with iCatholicRadio app for mobile devices and tablets.

About Egypt: Please read and pray.

This may be as close as we are likely to get to the horse’s mouth on this one. Ting is a good friend and a good Christian lady with no ax to grind. If she says these are real emails, I believe her.

2013_08 22 Violence against Egyptian Christians

Dear Chrissy,

My next door neighbor, Sam, is a lovely, lovely new American citizen whose family are all still in Egypt. He is a Coptic Christian, as are the rest of his family. He asked that I spread the word, so I figured this was a good place to get started.

Love, Ting

Dear Friends,

You may have heard in the last few days about Egypt through the media. I hope you will take time to read the email below. As an Egyptian who was born in Egypt and is now an Egyptian-American, I cannot agree more with the content of this email. It truly explains the current situation in Egypt accurately. The Brotherhood is nothing more than a terrorist group who tries to take away the tiny bit of freedom that everyday Egyptians have and impose their radical religious beliefs on others. I have been enjoying the freedom and democracy here in America. I hope someday that my family and other Egyptians will have the same freedoms or even a small part of the liberties we so often take for granted. Please, pass this message to your friends and may I ask your prayers for all law abiding Egyptians both Muslim and Christian.

Thank you, Sam

Dear Pete and Ardy,

Hope all is going well at your end. I wish you happiness and health and all the good in the world.

I need to ask you to please spread the word. You know us, you know Egypt and I am so surprised at the media in the US and Europe. We took to the streets in millions on the 30th of June to oust Morsi and the MBs from Egypt.

These people are terrifying us. Their leaders literally said that the terrorist attacks in Sinai could stop if morsi is released. I heard them myself. We took to the streets again today to support General Sisi’s campaign against terrorism.

MBs are real dictators, they have alienated everybody at the time of Morsi’s rule. The constitution they passed is far from democratic ( I read it all ). Morsi released terrorists from prisons, in thousands. I saw faces that I thought were sentenced to death because they killed both Egyptians and tourists on the peaceful land of Egypt. Please spread the word, it is not a coup, it is a war against terrorism and we are supporting Sisi all the way.

MBs are hiring thugs to shoot protestors, they steel dead people’s bodies and claim they belong to them to show the world that they are the victims. I know one of them! And other friends know of other examples.

Al Jazeera, CNN, Guardian and BBC are lying to the world. They are showing Morsi’s supporters as millions and this is not true.. MBs are protesting near by my mother’s place and they kidnap people and they torture them inside the “mosque” can you believe this?

Our army is being shot at in Sinai and many soldiers killed while defending our land. We trust them, we sought their support to bring our country back and they responded to us.

I am sorry for my long email, and sorry to bother you. But I know you love Egypt and you know Egypt more than many Egyptians do. If you could spread the word, I and so many others will be very grateful to you.

Love you both very much, and wish you peace and happiness forever, Nermine
