The Best Neighbor

Tissue alert. Fred Rogers received a Lifetime Achievement Award during the 1997 Daytime Emmys. Instead of making the speech about himself and his accomplishments, Mr. Rogers says something incredibly heartwarming that cements him as one of the best neighbors ever.

FYI: Tim Robbins is 6′ 5″ tall.

Boys at St. Francis High were shocked

They thought they knew their tough, “Just learn the stuff; it’s not my job to make school fun for you” math teacher.

They didn’t. Feeling like mankind just sucks? Watch this one. It’ll help.

Michelle Obama’s heroic role model

Today’s Democratic Party stands with Communists and against the Constitution

In response to something he says at the end of this video, I’d just like to mention that our dentist is an immigrant from Russia.

The last time I was in the chair, she asked about the girls. I mentioned one of them was deployed to Iraq.

She stopped working on me and looked out the window as her eyes welled up. “Thank you for her service. I love this country!”

The Mystery of the Eighth Day

God established the Feast of Booths (aka, Tabernacles, Sukkot, In-gathering) as a SEVEN day holiday that lasts EIGHT days. Sukkot (pron sue-COAT) refers to the temporary dwellings (aka, tabernacles, booths) that the Jews were commanded to live in in memory of the period of wandering.

Leviticus 23 says,

33 The LORD said to Moses: 34 Tell the Israelites: The fifteenth day of this seventh month is the LORD’s feast of Booths, which shall continue for seven days. 35 On the first day, a declared holy day, you shall do no heavy work.

36 For seven days you shall offer an oblation to the LORD, and on the eighth day you will have a declared holy day. You shall offer an oblation to the LORD. It is the festival closing. You shall do no heavy work.

37 These, therefore, are the festivals of the LORD which you shall declare holy days, in order to offer as an oblation to the LORD burnt offerings and grain offerings, sacrifices and libations, as prescribed for each day, 38 in addition to the LORD’s sabbaths, your donations, your various votive offerings, and the voluntary offerings that you present to the LORD.

39 On the fifteenth day, then, of the seventh month, when you have gathered in the produce of the land, you shall celebrate the feast of the LORD for a whole week. The first and the eighth day shall be days of rest.

40 On the first day you shall gather fruit of majestic trees, branches of palms, and boughs of leafy trees and valley willows. Then for a week you shall make merry before the LORD, your God. 41 You shall keep this feast of the LORD for one whole week in the year. By perpetual statute throughout your generations in the seventh month of the year, you shall keep it.

42 You shall dwell in booths for seven days; every native-born Israelite shall dwell in booths, 43 that your descendants may realize that, when I led the Israelites out of the land of Egypt, I made them dwell in booths. I, the LORD, am your God.

I think the Eighth Day is a fore-shadowing of the last 2000 years when God gathered in the Gentiles and of the time after Jesus whips Satan’s butt at Armageddon when God will gather in all the people He ever made for Final Judgment.

If he wasn’t always bragging and tweeting like he’s so PERFECT at EVERYTHING, I wouldn’t care.

If I were the Devil by Paul Harvey

Starting about 1964, Paul Harvey published and broadcast variations on this famous meditation. It’s interesting to read the 1964 version (below) while listening to the 1996 version (below).

1964 Paul Harvey on Redistribution

Paul Harvey’s “If I were the Devil” (probably 1996 version) [3:22]

If I Were the Devil by Paul Harvey

If I were the Prince of Darkness I would want to engulf the whole earth in darkness.

I’d have a third of its real estate and four-fifths of its population, but I would not be happy until I had seized the ripest apple on the tree.

So I should set about however necessary, to take over the United States.

I would begin with a campaign of whispers.

With the wisdom of a serpent, I would whispers to you as I whispered to Eve, “Do as you please.”

To the young I would whisper “The Bible is a myth.” I would convince them that “man created God,” instead of the other way around. I would confide that “what is bad is good and what is good is square.”

In the ears of the young married I would whisper that work is debasing, that cocktail parties are good for you. I would caution them not to be “extreme” in religion, in patriotism, in moral conduct.

And the old I would teach to pray — to say after me — “Our father which are in Washington.”

Then I’d get organized.

I’d educate authors in how to make lurid literature exciting so that anything else would appear dull, uninteresting.

I’d threaten TV with dirtier movies, and vice-versa.

I’d infiltrate unions and urge more loafing, less work. Idle hands usually work for me.

I’d peddle narcotics to whom I could, I’d sell alcohol to ladies and gentlemen of distinction, I’d tranquilize the rest with pills.

If I were the Devil, I would encourage schools to refine young intellects, but neglect to discipline emotions; let those run wild.

I’d designate an atheist to front for me before the highest courts and I’d get preachers to say, “She’s right.”

With flattery and promises of power I would get the courts to vote against God and in favor of pornography.

Thus I would evict God from the courthouse, then from the schoolhouse, then from the Houses of Congress.

Then in his own churches I’d substitute psychology for religion and deify science.

If I were Satan I’d make the symbol of Easter an egg

And the symbol of Christmas a bottle.

If I were the Devil I’d take from those who have and give to those who wanted until I had killed the incentive of the ambitious. Then my police state would force everybody back to work.

Then I would separate families, putting children in uniform, women in coal mines and objectors in slave-labor camps.

If I were Satan I’d just keep doing what I’m doing and the whole world go to hell as sure as the Devil.

SUPER BOWL VIDEO BREAK

Posted by Pistol Pete

I have no idea how to start this; the only other time I can recall a video-only post was for Christmas music in 2012.
I posted the Cowboy Kid youtube from the Doritos ‘Crash the Superbowl’ contest. It is one of the five finalists.
Here are three of the others:

I have no idea what possessed me to do this. Boredom, maybe;perhaps I just wanted to give you an emotional outlet. At 30-90 seconds, none of them call for you to invest much time. Who knows? You might like one or two.

God’s Purpose for Your Life

Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you

Beth Moore’s teaching “God’s Purpose For You” really touched my soul. She shows how God’s purpose for each one of us is not only highly personal, but something He had in mind from before He created the universe. Think about this … BEFORE the Big Bang, God thought of me … Chrissy … and He had a perfect purpose for my life. That’s a big, big idea. I encourage you to take the time to listen to this video. You don’t need to watch. She just walks around and gestures. She’s expressive and funny, but if you have mending or something … you don’t NEED to watch.  It’s 47 minutes of good, good stuff.
