The Wage Gap Myth

The Left promotes the idea that women earn less than men overall, so therefore society must still be anti-woman and we must therefore DO something to fix it. The “something” always involves shoveling more money and more power at Democrats.

Feminism is the notion

In 2009, the Department of Labor studied the issue in real detail and learned that the REAL reasons behind the wage gap have nothing to do with society and everything to do with the fact that individual men and women choose different career paths.

  • More men choose higher paying fields such as engineering.
  • More women choose modest paying fields such as health care.
  • More men choose jobs that pay more because of the danger involved.
  • More men are willing to work overtime, evenings and weekends.
  • Men tend to stay in jobs longer, increasing their seniority and income.
  • Women are more likely to interrupt their careers to raise children.

But the real nail in the coffin of the Lefties’ Waaaaaaaahmbulance chasing Women Need Gummint Help argument is this … unmarried women who have never had a child EARN MORE THAN THEIR MALE COUNTERPARTS.

The reason for this is that, for many years now, MORE than half of all college graduates have been WOMEN.

Today’s American women are not helpless princesses trapped in imaginary towers by an evil chauvinistic society and we do not expect, need or want to be rescued from the imaginary dragon of “anti-woman discrimination.”

Update: 141% turnout a myth

This is at Twitchy, which I believe was founded by Michelle Malkin, who I trust.

http://twitchy.com/2012/11/13/myth-of-141-turnout-in-st-lucie-county-fla-persists/

Voter turnout in St. Lucie County, Fla., was not 141 percent. The confusion arose because uninformed people mistakenly conflated the number of “cards cast” (the number of ballot pages submitted by voters) with the number of voters. Since most voters submitted two ballot pages, voter turnout in in St. Lucie County was roughly half the number of cards cast. Thus, turnout was roughly 70-71 percent, not 141 percent.

Just one thing … it is hardly as simple as “We’re too dumb to know they had two cards.” As you can see below, the first page of the report shows statistics labeled TURN OUT. Under that are columns for number of Registered Voters, Number of Cards Cast, and Percent of Turnout.

Click to embiggen graphic.

The REPORT shows 141% TURN OUT. What kind of lunatic system is this?

Hmm, let me think. This is the same district run by Gertrude Walker, the woman Allen West says is either incompetent or corrupt. And as irregularities continue in his recount, he’s leaning toward corrupt. So here’s a wild idea … maybe they set up the columns deliberately to confuse us, so we’d all do what we did, which is go ballistic, so they could then oh-so-patiently pat us on our stupid little tinfoily heads and explain in words of one syllable why we were dumber than dirt to think the election was rigged. And THEN anybody who continues to want real answers to real election fraud questions could be thrown into that convenient “birthers and clingers” barrel with all the other wingnuts nobody needs to listen to. Hmmm?

Mythbusting 4 Simple Questions

I want to mythbust an email that is circulating that deals with a topic I’ve researched in depth. The version of the email that I received says “4 Simple Questions” in the subject box. Below are these 4 questions along with my comments.

1. Back in 1961 people of color were called ‘Negroes.’ So how can the Obama ‘birth certificate’ state he [Obama’s father] is ‘African-American’ when the term wasn’t even used at that time?

CtH: The birth certificates (both long and short) list Obama Senior’s race as AFRICAN, not African-American. Whoever wrote the email was really sloppy on this point. Barack Obama Sr. was a British citizen from the Kenya Colony in East Africa. He was only here to go to school.

However, the basic point is valid. “African” was not a recognized racial category in 1961. An American filling out the form might be expected to use one of the current categories listed in the 1960 Census of U.S. citizens, which asked: “Is this person – White, Negro, American Indian, Japanese, Chinese, Filipino, Hawaiian, Part Hawaiian, Aleut, Eskimo, (etc.)?” http://usa.ipums.org/usa/voliii/items1960.shtml

But Obama Sr. was not a U.S. citizen. If he had any input into what was put on the original birth certificate in August 1961, it seems likely he’d use the ethnic, tribal or racial category he used at home. At http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_Kenya, it says the 2009 Kenyan census lists Kikuyu 17%, Luhya 14%, Kalenjin 13%, Luo 10%, Kamba 10%, Kisii 6%, Mijikenda 5%, Meru 4%, Turkana 2.5%, Maasai 2.1%. About 9% of population consist of smaller indigenous group below 1% each, and Non-African groups (Arabs, Indians and Europeans) are estimated to total to about 1%.

Lots of possibilities, none of which is AFRICAN. Still, it’s not that big a quibble. It was a big deal in Hawaii at that time for a foreign student from anywhere in Africa to be attending the university. Ann or her mom could have filled out the form and chosen to write African in the race box.

2. The birth certificate that the White House released lists Obama’s birth as August 4, 1961 and that Obama’s father was born in “Kenya, East Africa.” Kenya did not even exist until 1963, two whole years after Obama’s birth. How could Obama’s father have been born in a country that did not yet exist? Up and until Kenya was formed in1963, it was known as the “British East Africa Protectorate.” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenya

CtH: This is wrong and it says so at the very URL provided: “The British Empire established the East Africa Protectorate in 1895, known from 1920 as the Kenya Colony. The independent Republic of Kenya was founded in December 1963.”

3. On the birth certificate released by the White House, the listed place of birth is “Kapi’olani Maternity & Gynecological Hospital.” This cannot be, because the hospital(s) in question in 1961 were called “KauiKeolani Children’s Hospital” and “Kapi’olani Maternity Home”, respectively. The name did not change to Kapi’olani Maternity & Gynecological Hospital until 1978, when these two hospitals merged. http://www.kapiolani.org/women-and-children/about-us/default.aspx

CtH: This is also wrong and, again, it says so at the URL provided. “Kapi‘olani Maternity Home [opened] in 1890. … Kauikeolani Children’s Hospital opened [in 1909]. … The two hospitals joined in 1978 to become Kapi‘olani Medical Center for Women & Children.”

At http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kapiolani_Medical_Center_for_Women_and_Children, it says that Kapi‘olani Maternity Home changed its name to Kapiʻolani Maternity and Gynecological Hospital in 1931.

4. Why hasn’t this been discussed in the major media? Perhaps a clue comes from Obama’s book. He states how proud he is of his father fighting in WWII, when his father was three years old!

CtH: The major media has been pimping for Democrats for as long as I can remember. Back in 2008, the unvetted problems in Obama’s life narrative were available for anyone who cared to investigate them, but the official news gatherers were much too busy digging through the Palin family trash to bother.

I don’t know if “my father fought in WWII” appears in Obama’s book, but he definitely said it on the campaign trail in 2008. It’s likely he just misspoke. His grandfather served in WWII. I don’t think this is a big deal. Campaigns are long and hard; candidates get tired.

I’m not saying Barack Obama isn’t a chronic liar. He is and I can demonstrate it. But I try to stick to things he’s published, put into campaign ads, read off a teleprompter, or said exactly the same way in multiple settings.

For the record, I am certain both of the birth documents released by the Obamas are forgeries.

FBI Stats vs Democrat Racism Myth

The race-baiting Democrat Media Complex outrage over the Trayvon Martin killing is based on two premises, both of which are myths.

Myth One is that Neighborhood Watch Captain George Zimmerman was being a racist bastard for being suspicious of Martin just because he was a Black Male. FBI murder and U.S. Census stats from 2010 show that Black Males constituted a mere 7.5% of the total population, but committed 39% of the murders.

Myth Two is that White violence against Black victims is a huge problem. But FBI stats show that Blacks murdered Whites more than TWICE as often in 2010 as the other way around.

Presidential Dollar Coins

I dunno why the email about In God We Trust not being on the gold Presidential Coin series is still circulating, but it is. In God We Trust was on the edge from the start. Two years ago, they moved it to below the President’s face.

MYTHBUSTER: Targeting Our Presidents

The Left promotes the myth that Democrat is the Party of Peace, while Republicans and Right-Wingers are dangerously violent.

But history demonstrates that Republican presidents have been assaulted by their enemies twice as often.

Click on graphic to embiggen.

Close calls:
Andrew Jackson – A man with two guns shot at the President at point blank range. Both guns misfired and the man was arrested and found not guilty by reason of insanity. When later tested by police, both pistols fired perfectly.

Abraham Lincoln – As Lincoln was riding to the Soldiers’ Home, a shot fired from the bushes caused his horse to bolt, and he lost his hat; when soldiers retrieved the hat, they found a bullet hole in it.

Harry S. Truman – Two Puerto Rican pro-independence activists attempted to murder Truman in his home. A violent gun battle ensued that left one would-be assassin and one policeman dead.

Gerald Ford – Ford was assaulted by another woman with a gun in San Francisco, CA.  A bystander grabbed the shooter’s arm, causing the shot to miss the president.

Bill Clinton – In Manila, the Secret Service suspected an attack and ordered Clinton’s motorcade be re-routed. A bomb was found under the bridge he had been scheduled to cross. Subsequent U.S. investigation found the attack had been masterminded by Osama bin Laden.

George W. Bush – During a speech in the Freedom Square in Tbilisi, Georgia, a man threw a live hand grenade towards the podium. A Georgian official grabbed it before it could explode.

Failure due in large part to assailant’s ineptitude:

Gerald Ford – Ford was assaulted by a woman with a gun in Sacramento, CA. A Secret Service agent foiled the attempt. The gun was loaded, but there was no bullet in the firing chamber.

George W. Bush – A man outside the perimeter fence shot towards the White House; the Secret Service took him down. The shooter’s obstructed angle view prevented the bullets from reaching the White House.

Richard Nixon – An attempt to kill Nixon by crashing a commercial airliner into the White House was foiled by an officer before the hijacker, who had killed the pilot and co-pilot, could take off.

Bill Clinton – A man at the fence fired at the White House with a semi-automatic rifle. Clinton was inside the White House Residence and was never in any danger.

MYTHBUSTER: Lincoln did not found the GOP

Posted by Chrissy the Hyphenated

For someone who made such a big deal about his admiration for President Lincoln, Barack Obama isn’t too savvy about the actual details of the man’s life.

Remember when the Laughing Stock Media made a Very Big Deal about Palin’s supposed “stupidity” in telling a Tea Party group not to “party like it’s 1773” until after the elections and saying that Paul Revere had warned the British?

The “we’re smarter than everyone” Lefties arrogantly dissed her for “not knowing” the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776. Uh, yeah. Except she was talking to a Tea Party crowd and … duh … the Boston Tea Party was in 1773.

Then they sneered at her for … oh wait … knowing MORE THAN THEY DID  about Paul Revere’s famous ride. It turned out he was captured by the British and did warn them that the Americans were armed and awaiting their arrival.

Fast forward to this week when, in a prepared, much ballyhooed, and nationally televised speech before Congress, Mr. “almost like god” Oblahblah says Lincoln FOUNDED the Republican Party.

No. Actually, he didn’t. He was our first Republican president and he had a lot to do with shaping the direction the party took, but he wasn’t on board at the beginning. In fact, the first meeting of Republicans was held in March 1854. That autumn, Lincoln ran as a Whig candidate. So he wasn’t even a member during the first six months!

$824 billion per year difference

By Chrissy the Hyphenated

Click graphic to embiggen for easier reading.

Federal spending bills must be passed by both the House and the Senate, then signed by the President. Therefore, it is fair to say that the party that controls two or three of these three bodies “owns” the results of federal spending. And this includes the federal debt.

  • From 1981-1989, Republicans controlled the Senate and the White House under Republican President Reagan. Average annual increase in the federal debt (in 2011 dollars) = $331.96 billion/yr.
  • From 1989-1994, Democrats controlled the House and Senate for four years under Republican President Bush (41) then for two more years under Democratic President Clinton. Average annual increase in the federal debt (in 2011 dollars) = $324.62 billion/yr.
  • 1995-2006: Republicans controlled the House and Senate for six years under Democratic President Clinton, then for another six years under Republican President Bush (43).  Average annual increase in the federal debt (in 2011 dollars) = $198.29 billion/yr.
  • 2007-Present: Democrats controlled the House and the Senate for two years under Republican President Bush (43) and two years under Democratic President Obama. Republicans won the House, depriving Democrats of their hat trick for 2011-2012, but Democrats still control the Senate and the White House. Average annual increase in the federal debt (in 2011 dollars) = $1,022.53 billion/yr.

The saying, “There’s not a dime’s worth of difference between the parties” was pretty much true for the 14 year period between 1981 to 1994.

  • Republicans avg increase: $331.96 billion/yr.
  • Democrats avg increase:    $324.62 billion/yr.

But there has been FAR MORE than a dime’s worth of difference between the parties for the 17 years between 1995 and 2010 … like $824 billion dollars per year difference!

Republicans avg increase:  $  198.29 billion/yr.

Democrats avg increase:    $1,022.53 billion/yr.

(NOTE: Without correcting for inflation, Democrats look even worse with $910 billion per year higher spending than Republicans.)

For fair comparison purposes, I converted the actual dollars into 2011 dollars, then subtracted the beginning from the ending to get the change, then divided that by the number of years to get the average annual increases. Here are my figures and sources, if anyone cares to check my math! Please let me know if I goofed. I went over everything 3 times, but you never know what kind of Senior Moments may hve occurred! 🙂

Actual numbers:                                       In 2011 dollars

End of 1980: $   930.21 billion                              $2,550.42 billion

End of 1989: $ 2,857.43 billion                            $5,206.10 billion

8 years under Republicans:

Increase in federal debt = $1,927.22 billion          $2,655.68 billion

Average annual increase = $240.90 billion/yr        $331.96 billion/yr

End of 1989: $ 2,857.43 billion                            $5,206.10 billion

End of 1994: $7,153.82 billion                             $7,153.82 billion

6 years under Democrats:

Increase in federal debt = $1,835.32 billion       $1,947.72 billion

Average annual increase = $ 305.89 billion/yr       $324.62 billion/yr

End of 1994: $4,692.75 billion                             $7,153.82 billion

End of 2006: $8,506.97 billion                             $9,533.29 billion

12 years under Republicans:

Increase in federal debt = $3,814.22 billion      $2,379.47 billion

Average annual increase = $317.85 billion/yr        $198.29 billion/yr

End of 2006: $8,506.97 billion                             $9,533.29 billion

August 24, 2011: $14,645.93 billion                     $14,645.93 billion

5 years under Democrats:

Increase in federal debt = $6,138.96                      $  5,112.64 billion

Average annual increase = $1,227.79 billion/yr      $1,022.53 billion/yr
