After spending four days scouring the interwebs to bring you the most appalling,funniest and most bizarre nonsense I can find I’m usually pretty worn down. The Thursday morning breakfast with family is often the high point of the week,when I can enjoy a brief time with people I’ve loved my entire life. Today my cousin gave me the guest book from my brother’s funeral in 1953. I recognized a lot of the names as they were family and friends of Grandma’s that I knew my whole life. I think she still has the newspaper clippings from the day he accidentally hanged himself. The book means nothing to anyone but me and I don’t know what will become of it when I’m gone. It’s still precious to me as a reminder of what might have been. Russell would be 70 this year.

She just introduced herself to the world on Monday, now Caitlyn Jenner is opening the doors and letting us into her personal life for a brand new E! docu-series, I Am Cait, set to air this summer.
The first one-minute promo for I Am Cait premiered Wednesday on Today and now it’s available to watch online. It begins with Caitlyn applying makeup in the mirror as she waxes poetic about the pressures women face about their appearance daily.
When someone else in the car interjects that Caitlyn already is normal, she says with a smile, “Put it this way: I’m the new normal.”

Orange Is the New Black star Laverne Cox applauded the widespread of support for Caitlyn Jenner, but also urged us to remember that there is plenty of work yet to be done when it comes to trans issues.
It was just about a year ago that Cox was featured on the cover of Time magazine trumpeting “The Transgender Tipping Point.” Cox’s cover was met with a similar rapturous applause and Cox says while she appreciates the support, the trans experience is much more than a dramatic physical transformation.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Tuesday shows that 46% of Likely U.S. Voters approve of President Obama’s job performance. Fifty-two percent (52%) disapprove (see trends).
The latest figures include 23% who Strongly Approve of the way Obama is performing as president and 38% who Strongly Disapprove. This gives him a Presidential Approval Index rating of -15.

Bruce Jenner Celebrates Diversity… Announces He Will Now Go By Name “Caitlyn” In Vanity Fair
Bruce Jenner made his debut as a transgender woman in a va-va-voom cover for the July issue of Vanity Fair.
“Call me Caitlyn,” declares a headline with her photo in a strapless corset, legs crossed, sitting on a stool. The image was shot by famed celeb photographer Annie Leibovitz. Prior to the unveiling of Caitlyn, Jenner had said he prefers the pronoun “he,” but contributing editor Buzz Bissinger, who wrote the accompanying story, refers to “she.”
According to Vanity Fair, which took to Twitter with the cover Monday, Jenner spoke emotionally to the magazine about the gender journey: “If I was lying on my deathbed and I had kept this secret and never ever did anything about it, I would be lying there saying, ‘You just blew your entire life.’”

After my grandmother had been beset by a series of strokes dementia was starting to set in. The family thought she was becoming incoherent. I had my doubts. I took her to lunch one day and after we got in the car and left the house she looked at me and with 100% lucidity she said: “It’s terrible when you have to bury a child.”
At that time my mother and my oldest uncle Ron had passed. It was then I knew she wasn’t as far gone as everybody thought she was.
I have no use for Joe Biden. Never have,never will. He’s a foul-mouthed buffoon who has lived on a government check his whole adult life. But my heart and prayers go out to the Biden family on the loss of their son, Beau. He succumbed to brain cancer last night at age 46. I have a beautiful daughter who is 40. If anything were to happen to her or any of my children I would be devastated. It leaves an unfillable hole in your soul. It is said that time can heal a broken heart but the scars never go away. Ever. Partisanship aside for now, I want to add my tiny voice to those offering condolences to the vice president on the loss of his beloved son.

Joe Biden released a statement at 9.45pm on Saturday, announcing the death of his son. Here is the statement in full:
‘It is with broken hearts that Hallie, Hunter, Ashley, Jill and I announce the passing of our husband, brother and son, Beau, after he battled brain cancer with the same integrity, courage and strength he demonstrated every day of his life.
‘The entire Biden family is saddened beyond words. We know that Beau’s spirit will live on in all of us – especially throrugh his brave wife, Hallie, and two remarkable children, Natalie and Hunter.
‘Beau’s life was defined by service to others. As a young lawyer, he worked to establish the rule of law in war-torn Kosovo.
‘A major in the Delaware National Guard, he was an Iraq War veteran and was awarded the Bronze Star. As Delaware’s Attorney General, he fought for the powerless and made it his mission to protect children from abuse.
‘More than his professional accomplishments, Beau measured himself as a husband, father, son and brother.
‘His absolute honor made him a role model for our family. Beau embodied my father’s saying that a parent knows success when his child turns out better than he did.
‘In the words of the Biden family: Beau Biden was, quite simply, the finest man any of us have ever known.’

First,thank you all for the kind words yesterday. I put a lot of effort into trying to bring you things you may not find if you don’t have the time to surf that I do. Friday is usually the day I post mostly positive,uplifting news after the normal depravity and chaos that has consumed our culture. I did find some fun things,but some of it is not so cheerful. But it is what it is. Since DW is visiting her dad for a few days,after I finish the post today I’m treating myself to one of the best Italian beef sandwiches in town and an order of breaded mushrooms. Mama can’t stand them,but I LOVE mushrooms so I have to seize the opportunity when it arises. It may not be the healthiest food choice,but I don’t have a lot to lose at this point so might as well enjoy life now.

The World Cup is played every four years and is broadcast across the globe to billions of rabid fans. Turns out FIFA operates on the same principles as the American political system. If you wanna play,you gotta pay. There are a small number of officials on the FIFA board who determine which country will host the games. The US Justice Department has handed down a 45-count indictment and so far 14 individuals have been indicted.

On May 15, 2004, FIFA’s executive committee held a vote to select the host nation for the 2010 World Cup. In the running were South Africa, Egypt and Morocco.
Among those in the room that day were Jack Warner and Chuck Blazer, each of whom had a vote.
Several months earlier, Warner, former president of CONCACAF, and Blazer, the former CONCACAF general secretary, travelled to Morocco and met with a member of the country’s bid committee. During the meeting, the Moroccan official offered Warner $1 million in exchange for his vote.

Little did the Moroccan official know his bribe wasn’t even close; South African officials were prepared to do 10 times better, offering Warner $10 million.
South Africa eventually won the bid, getting votes from Warner, Blazer and one other associate who were in on the fix.

The Clinton global charity has received between $50,000 and $100,000 from soccer’s governing body and has partnered with the Fédération Internationale de Football Association on several occasions, according to donor listings on the foundation’s website.
Involvement with the embattled body extends beyond the foundation to Bill Clinton himself. The former president was an honorary chairman of the bid committee put together to promote the United States as a possible host nation for the 2018 or 2022 World Cup.
When the U.S. lost the 2022 bid to Qatar, Clinton was rumored to be so upset he shattered a mirror.
But apparently Qatar tried to make it up to him.
The Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee, partnering with the State of Qatar, “committed to utilizing its research and development for sustainable infrastructure at the 2022 FIFA World Cup to improve food security in Qatar, the Middle East, and other arid and water-stressed regions
throughout the world,” according to the Clinton Foundation website.
The cost of the two-year project is not listed on the Clinton Foundation website, but the Qatar 2022 committee gave the foundation between $250,000 and $500,000 in 2014 and the State of Qatar gave between $1 million and $5 million in previous, unspecified years.
