The Hidden Coup

By Mark Crutcher of Life Dynamics. Reprinted with permission.

Our parents warned us to always be careful what we ask for because we just might get it. It is sound advice that tends to get ignored, thus leaving us exposed to the unforeseen and unwelcome consequences that follow.

For generations, cynical voters have been asking for politicians who keep their campaign promises. In 2008, their wish was granted. Barack Obama was handed the keys to the Oval Office after faithfully promising the American people that he would fundamentally change their nation.

It is a promise he is keeping with a vengeance. Many of the principles upon which America was built have already been eliminated and those that remain are in his cross-hairs. Obama is now the center of a personality cult that is, with breathtaking speed, transforming us into the Marxist utopia he was so seduced by during his time at Harvard.

It is correctly said that elections have consequences and I can find no better proof of that than the one that gave us Barack Obama. Because of it, we now find ourselves in a precarious situation that threatens the very survival of the country. Even if Obama loses in November, it will take decades of Herculean effort to undo the damage he’s done. On the other hand, if he wins, there will shortly come a time when we will be living in a country that we cannot imagine today and will not recognize then.

The political and cultural ramifications of this are being cussed and discussed by people far brighter than I will ever be. But in the midst of all this, important questions are being overlooked about the long-term effects of Obamaism on the Black population.

First, by now, it must be clear to even the most oblivious of our fellow citizens that this guy is in way over his head. Any way you look at it, we are now in the final stages of a four-year amateur night at the White House. What we don’t know is whether voters will see this as an indictment of Obama, Democrats and liberals, or as a referendum on African-American politicians in general. If that turns out to be the case, we might look back one day and conclude that the first Black president saw to it that there would not be a second one for another 150 years.

Second, polls consistently show that Blacks are far more pro-life and far more opposed to the homosexual agenda than the population as a whole. Yet they broadly support a man who has been the most radically pro-abortion and pro-homosexual president in American history. In the field of psychiatry, this phenomenon is called “cognitive dissonance” and it occurs when people behave in a manner that conflicts with their belief system. Interestingly, this trait is commonly found among members of cults.

Whether Obamaism meets the definition of a cult or not is, obviously, open to interpretation. However, it is hard to imagine that there will not be negative repercussions within the Black community for having blindly followed a man who is so out of step with them on these two core-value moral issues.

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, consider the following: since the 1960s, Martin Luther King has been the greatest presence in the African-American community and cast the biggest shadow in the struggle for civil-rights. For more than fifty years, he has been a man among boys and Black families have been able to hold him up to their children as the symbol of what African-Americans can do and can become.

The danger we now face is that Dr. King may soon be replaced by Barack Obama as America’s preeminent Black role model. Should that happen, and it certainly seems plausible that it will, the results will be disastrous for the country in general and the Black community in particular.

Of course, some will not see this as an “either/or” situation and suggest that both can serve in this capacity. Those people are wrong. In reality, this is a textbook “either/or” situation. It is completely illogical to contend that Dr. King’s devotion to the advancement of fundamental American values is compatible with Obama’s advocacy of godless statism and Black Liberation Theology. As a practical matter, the only way for one philosophy to prevail is for the other one to be destroyed.

So whether the country realizes it or not, we stand at a crossroads. To put it simply: Martin Luther King was a unifier; Barack Obama is a divider. And if our fate is for the latter to replace the former as the symbol of Black America, we’re all in deep trouble.

Periwinkle in bloom

In west central Wisconsin, we usually don’t start planting earlier than Memorial Day weekend, which is when the danger of frost is past. This is fine with me, as I’ve been too busy to do anything with my gardens yet this year — I hope to get to them sometime next week. Still, as you can see, the periwinkle I planted a few years ago is blooming enthusiastically. I just love flowering plants that thrive on neglect!

Bordeaux & Bo

I searched above.
I searched below.
But nowhere to be seen is Bo.
I searched at speeds
Both fast and slow.
But where is Bo? I do not know.
What trauma did
He undergo,
To make him disappear just so?
Did Bo outgrow
The White Chateau?
Or is he simply lying low?
Or was he wrapped
In pastry dough,
And made into a sloppy joe?
I searched above.
I searched below.
Where Bo has gone, I do not know.

The Heavenly Grocery Store

Written by Noni Beth Gibbs. Reprinted from A Royal Appointment.

Praying is a lot like shopping at your favorite grocery store. And even if you don’t like shopping at an earthly market, you can’t afford to miss out on these celestial bargains! Grab a cart and get started.

At the front of the store is a gateway labeled “Forgiveness Entrance”. When you pass through, it blasts away any dirt, bugs, or other contaminants that would be out of place in the beautiful and clean grocery store. From top to bottom, you’re completely cleansed.

As you walk in the door of the market, you’re dazzled by the light. You’ve found something much bigger outside yourself, containing such power that there’s no need for the energy-saver methods like only lighting 1/3 of the light bulbs at any given time. You can see everything so much more clearly, and you’re only one step inside the door.

The display of advertised specials greets you in the entry. Every single display case in this section holds an item of praise.

Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise!  Ps. 100:4

For the Lord is great, and greatly to be praised!  Ps. 96:4

Praise ye the Lord. O give thanks unto the Lord; for He is good, for His mercy endureth forever. Ps. 106:1

Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!  Ps. 107:8

No matter how pressing our business in the other parts of the store, we will miss out on a huge blessing if we push on by this important stop. There’s not only a spiritual blessing here but a mental and physical blessing as well. Negative emotions depress our immune system, making us less resilient and more vulnerable to disease. The same God who wants us to be in good health wants us to praise Him. It draws us close to Him, and strengthens every part of our being.

Before we enter the main body of the store, let me tell you about a small section in the furthest corner. It contains wants, wishes, desires, and good options. There are many times in our lives when we put these items in our carts, wanting them and hoping we can keep them. Sometimes the Cashier will ring them up, but just as often, He’ll put them on layaway, or even ask us to discard them. It’s best to listen to His recommendation, no matter how hard it is to let go of these items. He knows what we need, and only chooses what is best, even if it seems heartbreaking at the time.

Once in a while, someone will grab the refused item back from the cashier and run out of the store with it. Not only do they suffer needlessly for shoplifting, but they had to leave most, if not all, of their other groceries at the counter.

For much of my prayer life, I’ve gone up and down this aisle, examining, shaking the packages, reading all the fine print, and trying to figure out before I get to the register which things I’m most likely to get to keep. Meanwhile, there was the whole rest of the store packed full of things that I was GUARANTEED to get to keep, and I hardly looked at those.

With age hopefully comes at least a little wisdom, so on this shopping trip we’ll go through the other sections, too. If you look down at your cart, now heaped with praise, you’ll see that it’s labeled “Holy Spirit”. In our own strength, we aren’t able to carry what we need from the store even as far as the cash register, never mind all the way through life. He guides us at every step, and makes suggestions of what we need. The voice app is faint, and we have to be trained to listen for it. But with practice, we’ll hear it more and more easily.

A rack of bread stands off to the left. There are only 66 loaves, and no matter how many you take, there are still 66 left. Each is different, but contains nutrients that we’ll need to fight in the War. Remember to grab a large jug of water, too. The Bread of the Word and the presence of the Water of Life through the Holy Spirit are the foundation for all the rest of the purchases you’re about to make. And whether it takes you one year or fifty, try each one of the 66 loaves.

If you follow each of these steps, you’ll immediately arrive at the produce section, where all the Fruits of the Spirit are now available to you. Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Goodness, Faith, Meekness, and Temperance. Now, if you were to skip any of those first few sections, there would either be nothing at all in the produce section, or at best, the fruits would be small, underdeveloped, and maybe even a bit withered. But look at at the size of those fruits! Since you didn’t grow them yourself, of course you won’t take any credit. And whenever one of your friends asks you where you got them, you can refer them to the Market, too. Many people have made their first stop at the store because they saw the fruit that a friend brought home.

As you roll toward the other aisles to see what the store has to offer, you’re astonished to see a box of Salvation already in your cart, even though you don’t remember putting it there. Somewhere along the way, whether it was when you first chose to go to the grocery store, or parked in the parking lot, or walked inside and agreed to use the cart that had been provided for you, it quietly appeared. Sometimes a shopper may see this item pop into their cart, but often it slips in so quietly that they don’t know till later that it’s there.

It doesn’t matter what order you use to shop the rest of the store. Once the foundation is laid, you may need to start with a different section each day. Discouraged or brokenhearted? Pick out some Sweet Comfort from 1 Thess. 5:9-11. Tired and worn out? Try a big bottle of Isaiah 40:31 Invigorating Strength Renewal. Need Wisdom? It comes in the extra-extra-EXTRA large size if you just ask. Give the Clerk your coupon from James 1:5. All the way down in Aisle Seven is Rest for the people of God, and if Satan has been attacking you really hard, try some James 4:7 Devil-B-Gone.

Everything you need to walk from this moment all the way into the Kingdom is somewhere there on the shelves. I could write a whole book on the products that are available — there’s too many to fit into one medium-length blog post. There are Suits of Armor, Soothing Balms to heal the wounds from battle, and in the clothing section, a whole line of one-size-fits-all Righteousness of Christ Robes. They fit on over your regular clothing, and no one else can actually see them, but everyone notices the difference. Boxes of Joyful Obedience, Willing Service to Others, and Total Purity Heartwash are just a few of the things you can find. The top shelves can be hard to reach, but the Grocer will lift you up if you ask.

All this would be amazing enough by itself, but you can actually ask for anything in the store to be applied to another person’s account, too. Maybe a friend, relative, or even an enemy. The Grocer never forces anyone to take His merchandise, so by asking on behalf of others, it gives Him permission to work  for them in a way He couldn’t have done if you hadn’t asked. So while filling your own cart, keep an eye out for products that folks you know may need.

Finally, you find everything you were looking for that day, and walk to the front of the store. The Cashier rings up the price and says, “That will be one Perfection Card, please.”

You hunt through your pockets, sure your Perfection Card must be in there, but all you can find is a couple of  greasy paper towels you used to check your oil with that morning. “I’m sorry, Sir. This is all I have.”

“Not a problem.” The Cashier smiles. “If you’ll just hand me your dirty rags, I’ll give you My own Perfection Card. The price for all your groceries has already been paid.” Amazed and humbled, you take the bright crimson card. On the back it says in golden letters, “This card and all the products it purchased have been brought to you by the Blood of Jesus.”

“Come again real soon,” the Cashier says. “I’d love to see you again later today, and there’s no limit to how many times you can visit.”

“Thank you, Sir, I will,” you whisper. You’re so grateful that you find yourself stopping in the Praise Section one more time on the way out.

I will praise thee, for thou has heard me, and art become my salvation. Ps. 118:21

As you load the groceries into the car, it sinks in. You can get whatever you need from the store, all the rest of your life, and it’s already been paid for. The items you chose don’t fill quite half your trunk. Next time, you decide, I’ll get even more.

Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full. John 16:24

What are you going to ask for today?

Time to exhale

(From Mark Crutcher at Life Dynamics. Reprinted with permission.)

By now, most people probably know about the Susan G.Komen/ Planned Parenthood fiasco. To recap, Komen announced that it would no longer give money to Planned Parenthood; the baby-killing lobby immediately went into an apoplectic rage; right on cue, the mainstream media piled on Komen with an attack so vicious it could almost make you feel sorry for them. Finally, wearing their best “deer-in-the-headlights” look, Komen’s leadership rescinded the funding prohibition, rolled over onto their back and started begging Planned Parenthood not to hurt them anymore.

And with that, the curtain came down. Planned Parenthood had taught Komen that when you ride on the back of a shark, trying to dismount is dangerous.

After the smoke had cleared, a truly laughable moment was provided by godless-left gadfly, Anna Quindlen. She told a gathering of Planned Parenthood degenerates in Fort Worth that the lesson to be learned from this episode is that, “When you poke us women, we poke back.” Given that, by this point, Komen and Planned Parenthood had already kissed and made up, this warning was clearly directed at anyone who might, in the future, be tempted to challenge Komen or Planned Parenthood – most notably, the pro-life movement. Apparently, Quindlen had convinced herself that she could rattle her little pink saber and we would all go screaming into the night and cower under our beds.

But all I could think about was, “What the hell is this nitwit talking about?” I mean, this was basically a cat-fight within the pro-choice camp in which the pro-life movement was little more than a spectator. But somehow, these people are strutting around like it was us who ended up groveling at the feet of Planned Parenthood.

The reality is, from the perspective of the pro-life movement, everything ended up at the same place it started. In the beginning, an organization comprised of morally bankrupt pro-aborts was giving money to the country’s number one abortion profiteer. In the end, that was still the case.

However, even though the journey ended where it started, that doesn’t mean nothing good was accomplished along the way. It was.

First, the aura of credibility and prestige that the Susan G. Komen Foundation had cultivated was finally exposed as a fraud. They have long been tied to the abortion lobby and, now, everyone knows it.

Second, the stench of being associated with abortion was reinforced one more time. Once again, the public saw that abortion is a 220-volt wire that even its most ardent advocates do not want to touch.

Third, for this thing to unravel in just three days is a testament to Komen’s pathetically weak leadership. Furthermore, it is now going to give an untold amount of its donor’s money to a New York public relations agency in an attempt to repair the damage.

Fourth, the public saw Planned Parenthood turn on one of its own donors like a pack of rabid hyenas. It was a savage and low-class response that is completely within the character of Planned Parenthood. Hopefully, that fact won’t be lost on potential donors in the future.

Fifth, the media’s shameless bias and incompetence was again put on public display. When Komen said that they were discontinuing their funding to Planned Parenthood, the media instantly portrayed it as a result of pressure brought by “anti-abortion bullies and terrorists.” They did this despite there being no evidence to support this assertion and despite Komen’s assurances that it was not true. It should also be noted that, when Komen flopped, none of these people attributed it to bullying or terrorism by Planned Parenthood fanatics.

Now, in an effort to justify Komen’s decision to restore Planned Parenthood funding, its defenders are resorting to some of their stale old arguments. For example, they are saying that Planned Parenthood is the only source of healthcare for many poor women. This ignores the fact that every dollar given to Planned Parenthood can be just as easily given to a legitimate healthcare provider. It is a scandal and an obscenity that we relegate the poor to getting their healthcare from abortionists. Be assured that, among the wealthy, the political power structure, the media elite, and all the others who are so quick to tout Planned Parenthood’s virtues for the poor, none of them would be caught dead getting their own healthcare from these people.

Another tactic Komen defenders are using is to claim that the money it gives to Planned Parenthood does not promote or pay for abortions. This is nonsense. Once a dollar is put into an organization’s account, it is indistinguishable from any other dollar put into the account. It’s like pouring water from several sources into a bucket. Once it’s poured in, there is no way to restrict which water can be taken out and used for a particular purpose. The fact is, as long as Planned Parenthood is doing abortions, it cannot be honestly stated that money given to them is insulated from abortion.

Komen’s people are also defending their actions by contending that abortion is only a tiny percentage of what Planned Parenthood does. There are, of course, several flaws with this claim – not the least of which is the fact that it is a lie. Simply analyze Planned Parenthood’s own financial data and it becomes clear that abortion is, in fact, a major part of their business. It should also be noted that the pro-life movement has never claimed that killing babies is all that Planned Parenthood does. We have merely pointed out that they kill more babies than any one else. And that is undeniable.

But even if it were true that abortion is only a small part of what Planned Parenthood does, it’s irrelevant. It’s no different than some apologist for Adolph Hitler saying that killing Jews was only a small part of what the Nazis did, or someone defending the Klan by claiming that lynching was only a small part of what they did. Or imagine some guy convicted for bank robbery whining that his trial was unfair because he wasn’t given credit for all the banks he didn’t rob.

Another excuse offered by Komen’s defenders is that many of Planned Parenthood’s facilities don’t even do abortions. And once more, this is completely irrelevant. The fact is, there is not one Planned Parenthood facility in America that does not either do abortions or refer for abortions. And whether the people associated with the Susan G. Komen Foundation or Planned Parenthood want to own up to it or not, the blood of any child snuffed out by abortion is on the hands of every person who played a role in making that abortion happen. To put it bluntly, they don’t have to actually hold the knife in order to be responsible for the killing.

Blizzard claims another victim

When the guys got together for poker on Friday night, one of the regulars was missing.

“Where’s Frank?” Charlie asked.

“In the hospital,” Joe said. “He’s recovering from a heart attack.”

“Holy crap!” Hank said. “How’d that happen?”

“It was that blizzard,” Joe said. “Frank’s doctor warned him his heart was weak, and he had to avoid all strenuous activity. He said absolutely no snow shoveling.”

“Guess Frank didn’t listen to him,” George said.

“Sure he listened,” Joe said. “Frank’s no idiot.”

“So what happened?” Charlie asked.

“Well,” Joe said, “when we had all that snow yesterday, Frank said he didn’t know what to do. His wife can’t shovel ’cause she’s got a bad back, and Frank can’t shovel ’cause he’s got a bad heart, and they can’t afford to buy a snowblower. Then that lazy good-for-nothing teenage son of theirs suddenly pipes up, ‘Don’t worry, Mom and Dad — from now on I’ll do all the shoveling.’ Frank had a heart attack on the spot.”
