Captain Zero closes ocean, keeps fave links open

2013_10 06 Obama closes ocean

The National Park Service informed watermen that they are not permitted in Florida Bay until the feds get back to work. That means that more than 1,100 square miles of prime fishing is off limits, affecting tour operators and fishing and paddling guides. Enforcement rangers will be on duty.

Troops deployed to fight Obama’s War in Afghanistan won’t get to watch their games either. President Petty Pants isn’t allowing Armed Forces Network to broadcast American sports overseas.

At home, military cemeteries and memorials are barricaded AND the commissaries where military families buy groceries at a discount are shut down.

Guess what ONE non-essential military facility is NOT closed down … go ahead. I’ll give you ONE GUESS. … President Obama’s favorite 18 holes – the Andrew’s Air Force Base Golf Course – is OPEN.

They say it’s because the golf course is paid for by green’s fees. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. Just like how Mount Vernon and a bunch of other places they’ve shut down are funded. And how about the commissaries? You telling me the money the families spend there doesn’t PAY FOR THOSE PLACES?

UPDATE: Can priests be arrested tomorrow?

2013_10 06 Now it's up to the Senate

I have not been able to find where the Senate has taken any vote on this. But it’s the week-end. Democrats apparently don’t work week-ends … or holidays. Not even when there’s an international crisis. Remember the Fourth of July when Egypt was burning and SecState Kerry was spotted on his yacht off Nantucket?

2013_10 06 Enyart voted NO to chaplains

So … is it true that priests could face arrest for saying Mass on base while furloughed? There’s been a lot of mis-information thrown around about this, so here’s the best info I’ve found:

31 USC 1342 says “An officer or employee of the United States Government or of the District of Columbia government may not accept voluntary services for either government or employ personal services exceeding that authorized by law except for emergencies involving the safety of human life or the protection of property.”

Penalties for violating 31 USC 1342 are spelled out in 31 USC 1350: “An officer or employee of the United States Government or of the District of Columbia government knowingly and willfully violating section 1341(a) or 1342 of this title shall be fined not more than $5,000, imprisoned for not more than 2 years, or both.”

So yes, priests can be arrested if they defy the furlough and say Mass on base.

Another Veterans’ Memorial Barry-caded

Yet another open-aid monument to America’s finest has been “shut down” because President Petty-Pants is an effing schmuck.

UNBELIEVABLE Police force Vietnam veterans to vacate Vietnam Veterans Memorial [:57]

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial requires absolutely no security. As John McCormack commented, “It takes more manpower and costs the government more money to close down an outdoor wall than to let people walk past it and pay their respects.”

Barricade Barry attempts to close the Iwo Jima Memorial to veterans

From a blog posting by Daniel Halper at The Weekly Standard:

Another open-air memorial in the Washington area is closed and barricaded off: the Iwo Jima Memorial, just across the bridge from D.C. in Rosslyn, Virginia. A source sends along this picture of the barricade set-up at the memorial, which is also called the U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial:

“I took the picture yesterday afternoon. Those barricades had been there at least a day. People can still walk into the Memorial area, but for many elderly and disabled vets, it is important they be driven and park right next to the statue,” the person who took this picture emails. […]

“This picture is from North Marshall Drive (100 yards up the hill from the 110) facing the only road in and out of the Memorial for cars. There are parking spots for cars and buses right next the Memorial that can only be accessed via this road.” […]

The stop is a popular destination for veterans and tourists alike, and, in my observation, is usually completely unmanned and unguarded. But, for some reason, it’s closed to the public during this federal government shutdown.

An Honor Flight of World War II veterans from Syracuse was being taken on a tour of Washington DC, and they paid as much heed to the barricades at the Iwo Jima memorial as an earlier group of veterans had paid to the barricades at the WWII memorial. Here’s a photograph of the group:

These guys stormed the beaches of Normandy, and Barricade Barry thinks he can scare them off with a flimsy portable barrier and some yellow tape?

Obama will arrest priests for celebrating Mass?

Every time I think the Obama Democrats have hit bottom, they find some way to dig their Hell Pit a little deeper.

The U.S. military is roughly 25% Catholic, but Catholic priests make up only about 8% of the active duty Chaplain Corps.

The 275,000 Catholic men and women in uniform (and their spouses and children) are served by only 234 active duty priests.

The military deals with this priest shortage by hiring local civilian priests to service bases where an active duty Catholic Chaplain is not present.

These priests are among those government personnel the Obama Democrats refuse to pay during the government shutdown.

But it goes further. Obama Democrats are not just refusing to pay civilian priests; they are also threatening to ARREST them if they even try to VOLUNTEER.

Military communion

Kansas Rep. Mike Pompeo, a graduate of West Point and an Army veteran, issued a statement today saying,

“The President’s strategy during the slowdown, just as during the sequestration, is to create as much pain as possible. However, this action crosses a constitutional line of obstructing every U.S. service member’s ability to practice his or her religion.

I just emailed the Archbishop of the AMS and said I hoped he planned to encourage his priests to defy Obama.

The WWII vets said NO and won. If priests just show up at every base as usual, they’ll win that as well.

ABOUT the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS)

  • AMS was created as an independent archdiocese by Pope John Paul II in 1985 as the only Catholic jurisdiction responsible for endorsing and granting faculties for priests to serve as chaplains in the U.S. military and VA Medical Centers.
  • AMS-endorsed chaplains serve at more than 220 U.S. military installations in 29 countries, making the AMS the nation’s only global archdiocese. AMS-endorsed chaplains also serve at 153 VA Medical Centers throughout the U.S.
  • The AMS service population also includes American Catholic civilians working for the federal government in 134 countries, but currently, due to limited resources, the AMS cannot adequately serve this population.
  • Worldwide, an estimated 1.8 million Catholics depend on the AMS to meet their spiritual and sacramental needs.
  • For more information on the Archdiocese for the Military Services, visit http://www.milarch.org, the only official Web site for Catholics in the military and for the Cause of Father Vincent Capodanno, MM.

What You Need to Know About a Government Shutdown

2013_10 01 Democrats did this

What You Need to Know About a Government Shutdown by Congressman Jack Kingston (GA)

Why Are We Here?

In accordance with Article I, Section 9, Clause 7 of the United States Constitution, “no money shall be drawn from the Treasury but in consequence of Appropriations made by law.” The law under which government is currently funded expires at midnight on Monday, September 30.

What Has the House Done?

The House, committed to preventing a government shutdown, has passed three temporary spending measures called ‘continuing resolutions’ which would keep the government open. The first continuing resolution repealed Obamacare, while the second delayed the plan for a year and included conscience protection. The House passed a third compromise measure including a one year delay of the individual mandate, pushing the President, Vice President, and political appointees into the system and removing all taxpayer subsidies for the President, Vice President, Members, and staff.

What Has the Senate Done?

The Senate refused to work this weekend while the House remained in session and Senate Democrats have refused to work with the House to reach agreement. Instead, they have flatly rejected the House’s efforts to prevent a shutdown and refused to offer compromise.

What Has the President Done?

President Obama has refused to engage in negotiations with Congress, opting instead to golf on a taxpayer-funded course over the weekend. While his own Administration has exempted several portions of the law by executive fiat, he refuses to extend those same protections to the American people.

What Shuts Down?

“Non-excepted” parts of the government will be closed, including the Smithsonian museums, national monuments, national parks, and Capitol tours. Certain services such as the expedition of a passport would also cease.

What Stays Open?

Sectors of government deemed “excepted” will continue to conduct business. Therefore, programs written into permanent law (Social Security), functions pertaining to national security or public safety continue to operate.

Does Congress Get Paid?

Members of Congress are paid under constitutional law, and “excepted” congressional staff members receive payment in the form of back pay once the shutdown is over. Other essential federal employees continue to work and have historically received payment after a delay, although it is not guaranteed.

What About Our Troops?

On Saturday, the House unanimously approved a bill proposed by Congressman Kingston along with Reps. Mike Coffman (R-CO), Louie Gohmert (R-TX), and Tom Latham (R-IA) to ensure the payment of our troops and supporting civilian employees or contractors in the event of a government shutdown. On Monday, the Senate followed up with passage by unanimous consent.

Random collection of Saturday stuff

Sept 27, 2013: The 2013 Warrior Open opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and a performance of “America the Beautiful.”

Dubya talked briefly about the tournament. [:44]

Lefties aren’t much different in Iran. Hard-liners threw eggs at moderate President Rouhani as he arrived home from the United Nations. Our leftie wingnuts threw eggs at Bush’s car during the Inauguration Parade. (I always thought the fact the Obamas could walk rather than ride inside a closed car like the Bushes had to do was Proof Positive that right wingnuts are far better behaved then left wingnuts.)

Lying Senator Crapweasels Lindsey Graham and Mitch McConnell voted WITH the Democrats in favor of cloture, which allowed Harry Reid to strip out all the language in the bill to defund Obamacare. Then they bragged that they had “proudly voted to Defund Obamacare.”

http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=113&session=1&vote=00206#position

Citizens schooled them both:

  • Wow, you must really not think much of your voters.
  • You knew good and well that the bill would be stripped before it was sent back to the house.
  • No one trusts a liar.
  • I will be supporting your opponent in the primary.
  • Do you really think we’re that stupid?
  • You lying piece of trash! You’ve been on the edge for a long time and you finally put yourself over the cliff.
  • You need to start counting the days till the next election because I intend to support ANYONE that primaries you.
  • Unbelievable. Do you really think you can get away with that, Senator?
  • How do you sleep at night, sir?
  • Stand, grow a pair and get your head out of Obamas rear-end!!!

Army combat veteran and cop tells it straight

An impassioned and rational statement against New York’s so-called “Safe Act” by Aaron Weiss of Poughkeepsie [2:58]

I especially like his statement at the end about what the legislators who support this vile law would be willing to do to enforce it. My guess is … nothing. The Left sends better men and women into harm’s way while they sit back in their padded chairs and sip their expensive whiskey.

Media FAIL

September 16, 2013 at CNN:

CAROL COSTELLO: This seems so unusual to me that a gunman could create this kind of havoc at a U.S. military facility. Have you ever heard of it happening before, Brian?

BRIAN TODD: Well, we did have the Fort Hood shooting in 2009.

DOG Not saying you're stupid

While the Navy Yard assault was still on-going, some “source” told reporters the shooter had an AR-15. CNN’s Musket Morgan and a host of other pro-gun-controllers predictably jumped right on the wagon.

One has to wonder if they have these AR-15 stories pre-written, like celebrity obituaries. In any case, it turns out they were wrong.

2013_09 16-17 CNN report AR15

Will they retract? ::snort:: One of them took a page from Shrillary “What difference does it make?” Clinton:

“Does it really matter what kind of gun was used? The people are just as dead regardless.”

Hmm … it seemed to matter when you thought you could use it to promote your gun control agenda.

2013_09 17 NY Daily News Same GUN

Granted: Piers’ notation about Aurora and Sandy Hook were somewhat correct. Those shooters did carry semi-automatic rifles, though that particular gun malfunctioned during the Aurora incident.

But what about the SHOTGUNS? Huh? All THREE shooters had SHOTGUNS!

Vice President Biden says all you need is a shotgun [2:00]

Don't judge gun owners
