Unemployment under Obama

The September 2012 jobs report is out and the MSM is, predictably, reporting it as a Win! for Obama! But the fact is, Obama hasn’t fixed anything. Bear with me and I will show you how to see this with your own eyes.

First, the Unemployment Rate is a phony statistic. Before Clinton, it meant what you would think it means. I.e., percent of Americans out of work. But Clinton changed the way it’s calculated to make his numbers look better.

Since the switch, the Unemployment Rate does NOT includes people who believe there are no jobs, so have quit looking. These folks are now called Discouraged Workers. You’d kinda think that was the same as being “Unemployed.” But in Democrat Government Speak, it’s not.

This weirdness has two odd results.

  1. A bad economy can see a down-tick in Unemployment because workers move not into Employment, but into Discouragement.
  2. A recovering economy can see an up-tick in Unemployment, because Discouraged workers get their hopes up and start looking again.

See Unemployment Rate data @ http://data.bls.gov/timeseries/LNS14000000

The Discouraged Worker data only goes back to 1994, which I’m guessing is when Clinton changed the Unemployment Rate. It does have value, because it tracks people who have been out of work for so long that they have lost HOPE that the job market will CHANGE for the better. I just wish the MSM reported more honestly and less politically about what changes in the Unemployment Rate really mean.

See Discouraged Workers data @ http://data.bls.gov/timeseries/LNU05026645

The Bureau of Labor Statistics also tracks the Employment-Population Ratio, which compares the total number of Americans to the total number who are working. I like this one, because it doesn’t try to suss out what people are thinking or feeling about finding work.

See Employment-Population Ratio data @ http://data.bls.gov/timeseries/LNS12300000

See for yourself what the JOBS situation in the Obama Economy is.

First, open the three URLs below in separate tabs, so you can click between them. Each page has a line graph at the top; if you scroll down, there’s a box with month-by-month data. At the top of each page, you can reset the time frame. It currently starts at 2002. Since the Obama claims he inherited Bush’s mess, I suggest you reset them all to 2001, the year Bush took office. (Click GO after resetting the date.) That way you can make up your own mind about how big a mess we’re in and who is responsible.

Things to keep in mind

Economists consider it a sign of a healthy economy if the Unemployment Rate is around five percent. Higher means people who want jobs are having trouble finding them. Lower means employers do not have a sufficient pool of workers for new hires.

Obama likes to remind us that he inherited the post-housing-bubble-burst recession, which he likes to blame on the 8-year Bush administration. But Bush inherited the post-internet-bubble-burst recession which we could just as easily blame on 8-year Clinton administration. Moreover, the 9/11 attacks hit us just 8 months into Bush’s first year. Obama had nothing even remotely comparable.

Bush also had two wars, one of which was won before he left office. The other drags on to this day, with Obama giving every sign of planning to just quit and go home. Frankly, I wish Barack would just man up. It’s unseemly for someone holding the most powerful office on the planet to keep whining the way he does.

Bush had Republican majorities in both the House and Senate for his first six years. Democrats took over the majority of the House and Senate in January 2007, then gained the White House as well for 2009 and 2010. Republicans have had the majority in the House for 2011 and 2012, but Democrats still control the majority legislatively, because they have the Senate and the White House.

IOW, to make matters simple, Republicans own the economy for SIX years under Bush (2001-2006), while Democrats own the economy for SIX years under Bush and Obama (2007-2012).

Got all that? Now go look at the data with your own eyes.

A little fact-checking of debate statements

October 3, 2012 Presidential debate videos embedded in seven parts @

http://www.therightscoop.com/obama-vs-romney-presidential-debate-open-thread/

H/t to Pistol Pete for the link. The CSB graphics used here are already up at Webshots. I’m just reusing them.

TRUTH: During the first 3 minutes of Part Two, Romney says,

The president said he’d cut the deficit in half. Unfortunately, he doubled it. Trillion dollar deficits for the past four years. The president has put in almost as much debt held by the public as all prior presidents combined.”

LIE: Shortly after, at about 2:30, Obama says,

“When I walked into the Oval Office, I had more than a trillion dollar deficit greeting me.”

When Obama walked into the Oval Office, the 2009 budget that greeted him had been signed in 2008 by President Bush. But it had been passed by a Democrat-majority Congress, of which Senator Obama was a part. That budget contained a projected deficit of about $500 Billion.

The total deficit for 2009 rose to the “more than a trillion dollar” ONLY AFTER the Democrat-majority Congress and PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA passed the 2009 stimulus spending bill, an act that ADDED more than $800 Billion to that year’s deficit.

Obama also says, “We know where it came from”, and couches all the blame in such a way that Democrats are totally blameless … which is a lie. As you can see in the graph above, under the Republican-majority Congress, the deficits were coming DOWN. It was only after Democrats won control of the House and Senate, under Pelosi and Reid (with Obama in the Senate), that federal “credit card” spending sky-rocketed.

The ideological war

Obama mocks financial success as ‘blind luck’ [3:06]

He’s got one thing right; we ARE in an ideological war here. Of course, I think his depiction of what characterizes our two sides is a stinking load of donkey doo. But at least he gets it that we’re not just at war with radical Muslims, but also with our fellow Americans.

What he says about our side is so wrong, I don’t know where to start. However, I know for many facts that his claim that his side embraces “what works” is utter BALONEY!

  • High taxation slows the economy, decreasing both jobs and government revenue.
  • Rent control laws decrease the availability of decent, affordable housing.
  • Gun control laws increase the rate of gun crime.
  • Since abortion was legalized, the rates of unwed teen pregnancy and fatherless homes has skyrocketed.

Yet HIS side continues to support and demand more and more of the same!

Furthermore, his mocking of successful people, saying they owe it all to “blind luck” and “women doing other people’s laundry”, is proof we did not take “you didn’t build that” out of context.  Besides which, HOW many times have he and his lackeys declared it was OBAMA who got bin Laden?!

The following is from the speech he made announcing bin Laden was dead:

“And so shortly after taking office, I directed Leon Panetta, the director of the CIA, to make the killing or capture of bin Laden the top priority of our war against al Qaeda.”

Translation: “Bush failed to get bin Laden. It took ME, Barack Obama, to get bin Laden!”

“I was briefed on a possible lead to bin Laden. … I met repeatedly with my national security team … I determined that we had enough intelligence to take action, and authorized an operation to get Osama bin Laden and bring him to justice. Today, at my direction, the United States launched a targeted operation against that compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan.”

Translation: “You cannot believe how hard I worked on this! Those people couldn’t have done diddly if I weren’t at the helm, directing every single one of their thoughts and actions!”

“The death of bin Laden marks the most significant achievement to date in our nation’s effort to defeat al Qaeda.”

Translation: “I sent our most elite military force against an unarmed guy in his jimjams and that’s waayyyyyyyyyy more significant than all that crap Booosh did, removing Iraq as an al Qaeda haven and turning it into a democratic ally of the United States.”

“We know well the costs of war. These efforts weigh on me every time I, as Commander-in-Chief, have to sign a letter to a family that has lost a loved one”

Translation: “I don’t want you to know that my office sends bereaved military families identical form letters signed for me by an auto-pen.”

I cannot WAIT for this hypocrite to be gone and a real leader, someone whose values I respect and whose leadership I trust, is running things.

THE POST-DEBATE GRUDGE

Posted by Pistol Pete

I was up late last night watching the festivities and at this moment I’m running on 100% caffeine and adrenaline.I wanted to post this before my morning nap (being retired has its advantages).I have to say I was pleasantly surprised at Romney’s performance and relished the reactions of the usual liberal suspects.Of course, every pundit has an opinion posted this morning and I’ve chosen some of the best.

One of the things I was glad to see was that everybody learned what we already knew:Obama is NOT the most gifted orator of our time. He’s a two-bit hustler with a decent voice that reads words somebody else has written to adoring crowds and is not used to being questioned. The few press conferences he’s had during his term were lovefests where he is never challenged on his lies and uses an hour to answer five softball questions.I likened him to a schoolyard bully who pushes the other kids on the playground around until somebody stands up to him and he is shown to be the consummate coward.Ill-prepared,ill-tempered and completely detached from events surrounding him.Apparently he thought he could waltz through last night on his thin list of talking points and have the masses swoon over his supreme being. He started out giving a shoutout to his brood mare and it was all downhill from there.

It was a classic case of a man who’s had to work all his life and been responsible for the welfare of others against one who’s led a sheltered life, had everything given to him and never wanting to be responsible for anything.Witness his short career in the State Senate and US Senate where he voted ‘present’ on all but rare occaisions.Romney came prepared with facts and an idea of what he had to accomplish,as a businessman does, while Obama pretty much went through the motions and paid a dear price for it.

I’m posting some of Romney’s best lines in Pete’s Pix,and Chrissy,I’m posting a link here that shows the entire debate in seven parts, since you only heard it on the radio. You’ll want to see it.Trust me.

The most surreal moment for me was overlooked by everybody.DW,who is totally apolitical, was watching it with me when Obama said something about Lincoln starting the transcontinental railroad and some college while the Civil War was raging.

‘What the hell was that?’ she queried.

I told her he was just slinging some bullcrap while he tried to think of something relevant to say. It’s in the video but it goes by quick so you have to watch for it.On with the Grudge!

Will the truly selfish rich man please stand up?

Obama’s net worth in 2010 was $11.8 million. His daughters attend a private school in Washington, D.C., where tuition is $30,000 a year EACH.

If I did the math right, that amount invested at a modest 4% would have generated MORE THAN ENOUGH INTEREST INCOME in a SINGLE YEAR to

  • pay for Malia and Sasha’s tuition for all four years they’ve been in D.C.,
  • bring the Senator Obama Kogelo Secondary School up to a standard significantly less than the D.C. public schools that aren’t good enough for Malia and Sasha, AND
  • keep 40 Kogelo orphans fed and housed for all of the six years since Barack Obama promised to help.

The company they keep

A man wished to purchase an Ass, and decided to give the animal a test before buying him. He took the Ass home and put him in the field with his other Asses.

The new Ass strayed from the others to join the one that was the laziest and the biggest eater of them all. Seeing this, the man led him back to his owner.

When the owner asked how he could have tested the Ass in such a short time, the man answered, “I didn’t even need to see how he worked. I knew he would be just like the one he chose to be his friend.”

Aesop’s Moral: You are known by the company you keep.

Under GOD, we are all equal

Under Obama, not so much. This cartoon is from before the HHS mandate. You can add mandatory insurance coverage for birth control and abortifacient drugs to that one of the right.

Karma catches up with Barack

For those who have staff to keep them organized, chronic tardiness is a pretty sure sign of arrogance.

The President of the United States has LOTS of staff.

Nevertheless, in Obama’s first two weeks in office, he was 10 minutes late to a memo signing ceremony, 30 minutes late to a bill signing ceremony and 45 minutes late to a ceremony to introduce economic advisers.

His lack of punctuality set the tone for his underlings that it was okay to be late. In those same two weeks, his press secretary Robert Gibbs was routinely late for daily news briefings, sometimes by more than an hour.

[Interestingly, fellow Democrat President Clinton was also known for being chronically late, while both Republican Presidents Bush were known for punctuality.]

This pattern of arrogant disregard for others was clearly established long before Obama’s rise to the Oval Office. The video here strings together eleven different instances during his brief tenure in the U.S. Congress when he arrived late to important meetings, having missed testimony and wasted the time of those who were where they were supposed to be when they were supposed to be there. [1:19]

He has kept it up throughout his tenure in the White House and demonstrated that, without question, his behavior is driven by sheer arrogance.

One of the most egregious examples dates from March 2010 when, in the middle of a White House meeting with Israel’s top leader, Obama told Netanyahu he was going up to the residence to have dinner in private with his wife and daughters. He told Netanyahu to wait if he wanted. Or not. Then he walked out.

Can you imagine ever doing such a thing to one of your guests? Can you imagine ever having this done to you when you are in someone else’s home? It boggles the mind.

But what goes around comes around. According to Bob Woodward of Watergate fame, when Obama phoned his contribution in to a meeting with his Democrat leadership, Nancy Pelosi pushed the MUTE button and Obama apparently never noticed nobody was listening. [:59]

And this week, when Obama put in a call to Great Britain’s Prime Minister, Cameron blew him off in favor of playing a third set of tennis.
