Betsy DeVos confirmed as Trump’s Secretary of Education

As expected, the vote was 50-50, triggering the remedy provided for in the Constitution, which is for the Vice President to break the tie.

  • “The Vice President of the United States shall be President of the Senate, but shall have no Vote, unless they be equally divided.”

Sen Chuck Schumer (D-NY) played his role in the on-going Democrats in La-La Land farce by tweeting:

Today @VP Mike Pence did something no one else has ever done: cast the tie breaking vote on his own cabinet nominee. #RiggedCabinet   — Chuck Schumer (@SenSchumer) February 7, 2017

That’s definitely not ridiculous or anything.

  1. It’s not his cabinet. It’s President Trump’s.
  2. It’s not “rigged” to follow the procedures set out in the Constitution.
  3. It’s not “rigged” for the VP to vote for the person he wants.

Senator Schumer, you make me ashamed to be among your constituents.

The Self-Beclowning Continues

It is an unfortunate state of affairs that the alt-left is so consumed with obstructing progress that they fail to see that, for all but those who suffer similar dementia, they look like a bunch of braying jackasses raising a racket and crapping on the floor of the building where they have to ‘work’, or some similar facsimile.

They are, at the time of this posting, in the middle of a 24 hour conniption fit, trying to convince one more RINO to join them in doing the teachers union’s bidding. They already have Murkowski from Alaska and the Maine Pain Susan Collins. That makes the vote 50-50, with Vice President Pence tasked with casting the tie-breaking vote on a cabinet nominee for the first time in history. The end game is to delay seating the president’s cabinet as long as possible, just for pure meanness.

[CtH: I just heard from Dearest that DeVos has been confirmed.]

Trump’s travel ban to be argued Tuesday in S.F. federal court

Robart said the states had shown that the travel ban was causing financial hardship to their residents and to institutions such as state universities, and were likely to prove that Trump’s order discriminated against Muslims.

While Trump responded with tweets about the “so-called judge” and his “ridiculous” ruling, Justice Department lawyers argued that Robart had harmed the nation with “judicial second-guessing of the president’s national security determination.”

Democrats are speaking for 24 hours in last push against Betsy DeVos

Activists have targeted those Republicans who they believe have reservations about DeVos, particularly those from rural states, where alternatives to public schools — such as those promoted by DeVos — are few and far between. But other than Murkowski and Collins, no Republican has indicated that their support is shaky.

What’s really behind Democrats’ all-night anti-DeVos show

Again, the only real issue here is her ardent support for school choice, including public charter schools and voucher programs to help families choose qualified private or parochial schools for their kids. The unions (rightly) see choice as a potentially fatal threat to their vast power.

The all-nighter is also a bit of virtue-signaling to the Dems’ angry base that they’re really, really trying to Stop Trump At All Costs. (Maybe this will end the noisy rallies outside Chuck Schumer’s house?)

Virtually all Senate Democrats poised to vote against remaining Cabinet picks

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ja_9s0xtqhw

The Senate is scheduled to continue confirming Trump’s Cabinet nominees this week, with a vote scheduled for Tuesday to approve Betsy DeVos, nominated to run the Education Department. Senators are poised to confirm Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) to serve as the next attorney general by the end of the week.

But those votes are expected to happen with little or no Democratic support.  Only Sen. Joe Manchin III (D-W.Va.) has announced plans to support Sessions. As of Monday, no Democrat has announced support for DeVos, Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.), nominated to lead Health and Human Services, or Steven T. Mnuchin, nominated as treasury secretary. They all are scheduled for up-or-down votes in the coming days.

California Senate Leader Admits His Family Is In US ILLEGALLY With FAKE SOCIAL SECURITY CARDS

HIS BROTHER OWNS JOSE’S TACO STAND AND HIS BROTHER OWNS CHICO’S NAIL SALON AND QUICK LUBE

“I can tell you half of my family would be eligible for deportation under executive order, because if they got a false Social Security card, if they got a false identification, if they got a false driver’s license prior to us passing AB60, if they got a false green card, and anyone who has family members, you know, who are undocumented knows that almost entirely everybody has secured some sort of false identification. That’s what you need to survive, to work. They are eligible for massive deportation.”

At Final Briefing, Obama Remarks on Transition, Israel, and Post-Presidency

Watch the ‘Sycophantic’ W.H. Press Corps Shower Obama with Adulation in Final Presser

‘It’s been an honor’
President Obama began his final press conference on a surprising note. Despite “not liking all of the stories you’ve filed,” he told the gathered White House press corps that it’s your duty to ask “tough questions” and not be “sycophants.”

Too bad reporters were apparently not paying attention.

What followed was one softball after another, with rhetorical foot massages sandwiched between.

“Thank you, Mr. President,” each reporter began.

“It’s been an honor,” said another, before literally making the “call me” expression while pointing at her cellphone.

[CtH: GAG ME!!]

A reporter for The Blade, Chris Johnson, used his opportunity to ask the president a question to instead list a series of LGBT “accomplishments” Obama enjoyed during his tenure — before setting the president up to attack Trump.

Obama uses his final press conference to issue extraordinary warning to Trump that he will step in if he ’rounds up’ children for deportation, hits voting rights or ‘silences dissent’passing-the-torch
In his final press conference, Obama brought up contentions issues for the U.S. citizenry, and pointedly told Trump he would speak up if his successor strayed far from current policy on rights issues.

He mentioned ‘systematic discrimination’ and efforts to ‘punish’ immigrants who came here as children.

He praised the press for making ‘this place work better’ in another signal to Trump, who has attacked networks and news outlets.

The Sideshow Continues

Betsy DeVos, Trump’s nominee for Education Secretary, is currently being grilled as required before she can face a vote. Conservatives balked at first because she had been in favor of Common Core, the brainchild of leftists intent on completely controlling how students think. When she was first introduced, she declared her opposition to it. What is not in dispute is she is in favor of local control of schools and an advocate for vouchers for poor kids to escape the failing public system.

Betsy DeVos, Trump’s education pick, lauded as bold reformer, called unfit for job
The Senate education committee was deeply divided over President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for education secretary at her confirmation hearing Tuesday evening, with Democrats attacking Betsy DeVos as unfit for the job and Republicans defending her as a bold reformer.

DeVos is an unusually polarizing nominee to helm the Education Department. She has lobbied for decades to expand charter schools and taxpayer-funded vouchers for private and religious schools, but she has no professional experience in public schools and has not held public office.

In his introduction of DeVos at Tuesday’s hearing, Joseph I. Lieberman, the Democratic nominee for vice president in 2000, argued that her status as an outsider is an asset.

The Democrat Party has been in the pocket of their most powerful ally, the teachers union, for decades. Quite naturally, they are doing their utmost to try to savage this nominee.

Gets Sanders to admits that free college isn’t free

Sanders also grilled DeVos about whether she was qualified for the post. The senator, who has received more than $140,000 from the National Education Association and American Federation of Teachers, questioned whether her family’s political donations played a role in the nomination.

“I don’t mean to be rude, but do you think if you were not a multi-billionaire, if your family has [sic] not made hundreds of millions of dollars in contributions to the Republican Party that you would be sitting here today?” Sanders asked.

“As a matter of fact I do think that there would be that possibility. I have worked very hard on behalf of parents and children for the last almost 30 years,” she said.

Murray has received $129,000 from those unions, making her the third largest recipient of union cash behind Sen. Sanders and Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D., Wis.). The 11 Democrats on the committee have received nearly $740,000 from those unions.

Education Committee Dems Awash in Union Cash

The NEA spent more than $35 million to help Hillary Clinton and national Democrats in 2016, making it one of the top 10 biggest spenders in the country, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.), an avowed socialist and Clinton’s sole serious challenger in the 2016 primary, has been the biggest career recipient of NEA money on the committee, raising more than $100,000 from the union’s PACs, employees, and members over the course of his career. Those donations have made NEA one of his 20 largest career contributors.

I ONLY POSTED THIS BECAUSE IT IS MERCIFULLY SHORT.  THE DEMOCRATS WERE ANGRY BECAUSE THEY WERE ONLY ALLOWED 5 MINUTES EACH TO ASK QUESTIONS, NOT NEARLY ENOUGH TIME FOR THESE INQUISITORS TO MANAGE TO DRAW SIGNIFICANT BLOOD. I DIDN’T BOTHER TO POST ANY MORE, SINCE THEY ALL HAVE THEIR TALKING POINTS FROM THE UNION AND THE PARTY.

Democrats make themselves look ridiculous AGAIN

The RNC’s Christmas greeting included this passage:

“Merry Christmas to all! Over two millennia ago, a new hope was born into the world, a Savior who would offer the promise of salvation to all mankind. Just as the three wise men did on that night, this Christmas heralds a time to celebrate the good news of a new King.”

Biblically illiterate secular humanists immediately concluded:

“The Republicans actually think that ‘this Christmas’ they have a ‘new King’ named . . . Donald Trump!”

This is what you get when you ban schools from studying the Bible.  I.e., people who do not know that “Gospel” literally means “good news” and that “the King” with a capital K is Jesus Christ.

ITA.  You simply cannot understand western civilization in general or our nation’s history in particular without a firm grounding in Christian beliefs.

Saturday Stormwatch

It’s late morning here at the old bunkhouse. Everything is quiet. We went to WalMart early this morning to stock up on things before the first of several storms heading this way. This first will start late this afternoon and will continue until late into the night. After a brief period it will begin again and snow until late Monday. Best guesses by the local weatherdoofuses say from 8-12″, maybe more, usually not less. After driving a truck for 35 years, I’ve faced far, far worse conditions, but at my age it’s just a pain.

Trump transition team reviewing military rules of engagement

IT’S ABOUT TIME WE STOP ASKING OUR SOLDIERS TO FIGHT WITH ONE HAND BEHIND THEIR BACKS. WE SHOOT. THEY DIE. WE WIN.
Trump often blasted the rules of engagement during the campaign trail, arguing they were too favorable to the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
“We’re sending leaflets down [saying] ‘in an hour we may be bombing your truck.’ Please remove yourself from — we are — we don’t know what we’re doing,” Trump told Fox News on April 13.

Michigan House Passes Stricter Voter ID
IT’S CALLED THE LAW OF UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES
Now, the Michigan House of Representative is taking steps to ensure that future elections are held fairly, and it’s not one Stein is gonna like: they passed a stricter voter ID law. Currently, voters in Michigan are required to show an ID or sign an affidavit before voting, but this new bill would mandate that a person who signed an affidavit also show a photo ID within 10 days of the election for their vote to be counted.

Betsy DeVos at Trump Michigan Rally: Time to ‘Finally Put an End to Federal Common Core’
THE BIGGEST OBJECTION TO HER NOMINATION WAS THAT SHE WAS FOR SCHOOL VOUCHERS AND AGAINST THE TEACHERS’ UNION, BUT SHE WAS AN ADVOCATE FOR COMMON CORE.
“In deference to the U.S. Senate confirmation, I’m not giving interviews, but just between us let me share this,” DeVos said to the crowd, speaking from prepared remarks. “It’s time to make education great again in this country.”

With only a few exceptions, the individuals that President-Elect Trump has appointed is the greatest collection of stooges and cronies and misfits we have ever seen in a presidential administration,” Huffman said.
“Some of these folks only qualifications for the job they are being appointed for is that they have attempted to dismantle and undermine and destroy the very agencies that they are now hoping to run.”

Hillary Clinton’s losing campaign cost a record $1.2B
The president-elect, who confounded critics during the campaign by saying there was no need to raise or spend $1 billion or more, ended up making do with $600 million.
Clinton’s expensive machine tore through $131.8 million in just the final weeks, finishing with about $839,000 on hand as of Nov. 28.
Team Trump spent $94.5 million in the home stretch — from Oct. 20 to Nov. 28 — and had $7.6 million left.

Brian Williams Criticizes Fake News After Losing NBC Job for Exaggerating Iraq Story

The MSNBC host then talked about how fake news had played a role in the 2016 election and that it continues to find a wide audience in spreading misinformation.
Williams did not mention his own history of exaggerating details of his own reporting. In February 2015, Williams was suspended as the anchor of NBC’s Nightly News and eventually removed from the position after it was discovered that he falsely claimed he was on a helicopter under enemy fire in Iraq in 2003, Stars and Stripes reported on Feb. 4, 2015.

Trump Tells The Silent Majority — ‘You Aren’t Forgotten Anymore’
The president-elect further stated to the crowd that his election win showed that the “forgotten men and women” turned up to the polls and were responsible for delivering a GOP victory.
After a dramatic pause, Trump told his supporters, “you’re not forgotten anymore,” which earned huge cheers from the crowd.
