Party preference and wealth

Bob, this one’s for your brother. Thanks for the topic. It was fun!

When I was researching this, I saw one survey that depicted the rich as predominantly Republican. Except they defined rich as being any family with a net worth over $150,000, which is totally bogus.

$150,000 may sound like a fortune to a college student, but it isn’t all that much in the real world. Net worth means the value of all of a family’s assets minus their liabilities. A responsible, lives-within-their-means, two-income, middle class couple does not have to have been working all that many years before they’ve built up $150,000 or more in equity in their home, savings and pension funds.

Surveys that looked at political affiliation for those whose net worths are over a million, over 10 million and over 30 million give a much more realistic picture of which economic strata lean toward which political party. And it does not support the Democrat myth of greedy rich Republicans by any means.

They can’t justify supporting Democrats anymore

In 2008, we tried to talk to our liberal pastor about Obama’s pro-abortion history. She responded by giving us a 3-page article xeroxed from a liberal magazine about why the Democratic Party’s alleged support for civil rights and help for the poor made them the better choice than selfish, greedy Republicans.

We both read it carefully and found it to be an illogical, garbled list of Democrat talking points. There was not a shred of Catholic teaching or Biblical truth in it.

I bought her a copy of Who Really Cares: The Surprising Truth About Compassionate Conservatism: Who Gives, Who Doesn’t, and Why It Matters by Arthur C. Brooks.

She sent me a snippy email “thanking” me for the gift, saying she had no plans to read it “now or ever.”

So much for open-minded dialogue between people of faith.

The summer of 2009, when the Leftist media was reporting very negatively on ObamaCare protests … for example, neglecting to point out that the incidents of violence were perpetrated by the pro-ObamaCare protesters against the antis, not the other way around … our deacon published an illogical, garbled justification for why the antis were all greedy and selfish.

So much for non-judgmental dialogue between people of faith.

His only actual justification for supporting ObamaCare was this: “When my mother was dying, I was grateful for her Medicare.” He also said it was very bad when people bit each other at protests. (I always wondered if he knew that the biter was on his side, while the man who lost part of his finger to the oh-so-tolerant Democrat supporter was on my side.)

When the Catholic bishops finally got a clue and came out against ObamaCare, the liberal pastor at the next parish over gave the official statement from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops equal billing on the parish web-site with the pro-ObamaCare statement by a group of 40 nuns.

Am I being overly-judgmental in characterizing Pro-Choice Catholic arguments as “illogical” and “garbled”? I’ll let you be the judge. In the video, the off-camera voice notes that the Catholic bishops are opposed to the HHS mandate. The voice then asks if Pelosi will stand with her fellow Catholics in resisting this law OR stand with the administration to impose it?

Pelosi says “I will stick with my fellow Catholics in supporting the administration on this.”

That’s not a typo. Listen for yourself.

“Illogical?” “Garbled?” Hell, yes.

Today, angelaisms sent me a link to this article:

America’s Most Biblically-Hostile U. S. President By David Barton – February 29, 2012

http://www.wallbuilders.com/LIBissuesArticles.asp?id=106938

David Barton is the historian who did the American Heritage DVDs I raved about a couple days ago.

The whole article is worth reading, but too long to share here in full.  I do want to copy-paste the section that deals with Obama’s pro-abortion, anti-life actions since becoming President of the United States:

  • January 2009 – Obama lifts restrictions on U.S. government funding for groups that provide abortion services or counseling abroad, forcing taxpayers to fund pro-abortion groups that either promote or perform abortions in other nations.
  • January 2009 – President Obama’s nominee for deputy secretary of state asserts that American taxpayers are required to pay for abortions and that limits on abortion funding are unconstitutional.
  • March 2009 – The Obama administration shut out pro-life groups from attending a White House-sponsored health care summit.
  • March 2009 – Obama orders taxpayer funding of embryonic stem cell research.
  • March 2009 – Obama gave $50 million for the UNFPA, the UN population agency that promotes abortion and works closely with Chinese population control officials who use forced abortions and involuntary sterilizations.
  • May 2009 – Obama officials assemble a terrorism dictionary calling pro-life advocates violent and charging that they use racism in their “criminal” activities.
  • July 2010 – The Obama administration uses federal funds in violation of federal law to get Kenya to change its constitution to include abortion.
  • September 2010 – The Obama administration tells researchers to ignore a judge’s decision striking down federal funding for embryonic stem cell research.
  • October 2011 – The Obama administration eliminates federal grants to the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops for their extensive programs that aid victims of human trafficking because the Catholic Church is anti-abortion.

This is not a comprehensive list. For example, there was the appointment of Catholic Kathleen Sebelius as Secretary of HHS, the agency that formulated the famous HHS mandate to deprive Pro-Lifers of their First Amendment rights.

While Sebelius was governor of Kansas, she was buddies with George Tiller the Baby Killer. In this video interview, she calls him a “health care provider.”

How close were George and Kathleen?

During her time in office, Governor Sebelius used her veto power three times to protect late-term abortionists, which in Kansas meant George Tiller.

In April 2007, Sebelius held a party at the governor’s mansion to honor Tiller. Only Tiller, his wife, and his clinic staff were invited.

For his part, Tiller spent millions funding Sebelius and the Democratic Party — $1.2 million in the 2006 election cycle alone.

Like other Catholic Pro-Choicers (e.g., Kennedy, Pelosi, Kerry, Biden), Sebelius claims she can be a faithful Catholic and still take money from and hand out political favors to the abortion industry.

The Roman Catholic Church begs to differ. Here is just a sampling of quotations from http://old.usccb.org/prolife/tdocs/prochoice.shtml:

  • John Paul II, continuing the constant teaching of the Church, has reiterated many times that those who are directly involved in lawmaking bodies have a grave and clear obligation to oppose any law that attacks human life. For them, as for every Catholic, it is impossible to promote such laws or to vote for them.
  • There cannot be two parallel lives in their existence: on the one hand, the so-called ‘spiritual life’, with its values and demands; and on the other, the so-called ‘secular’ life, that is, life in a family, at work, in social responsibilities, in the responsibilities of public life and in culture.
  • No Catholic can responsibly take a “pro-choice” stand when the “choice” in question involves the taking of innocent human life.
  • We urge those Catholic officials who choose to depart from Church teaching on the inviolability of human life in their public life to consider the consequences for their own spiritual well being, as well as the scandal they risk by leading others into serious sin.
  • [N]o appeal to policy, procedure, majority will or pluralism ever excuses a public official from defending life to the greatest extent possible.
  • Those who justify their inaction on the grounds that abortion is the law of the land need to recognize that there is a higher law, the law of God

Sebelius’ ordinary, Archbishop Joseph Naumann, has warned Sebelius several times of her infidelity to Church teaching. When she was nominated as head of HHS, Bishop Naumann called Obama’s choice “offensive” and wrote:

“Because of her long history both as a legislator and governor of consistently supporting legalized abortion and after many months of dialogue, I requested Governor Sebelius not to present herself for communion.”

Archbishop Raymond Burke, prefect of the Apostolic Signature in Rome, backed him up, stating publicly that Sebelius should not present herself for Holy Communion no matter where she was.

Left vs Right on Abortion

The slippery slope is real and the Left is at the bottom. Bipartisanship and compromise be damned. There are only two sides to this issue and, as with slavery, Republicans are on the right side.

When should the “moral value” of any human life begin? How about at conception, when we have the first living cell containing a full complement of human DNA? Possibly at implantation, when we have a living human organism capable of taking in nourishment and growing.

Anything later than conception or implantation and you have your butt on that slippery slope at the bottom of which is the justified killing of live, healthy human babies for any reason whatsoever.

He’s beatable, but we have our work cut out for us.

Compare the numbers on the two bar graphs with each other and with this little factoid:
    Feb. 9, 2012 Rasmussen Poll
40% of Likely U.S. Voters said Obama’s performance
in the economic area is GOOD or EXCELLENT.

THE GOOD NEWS is that his core supporters are a minority whose beliefs and policies offend all that most of us hold dear.

THE BAD NEWS is that, while 65% say the country is going in the wrong direction, 15% turn around and give Obama a positive approval rating and 5% are so out-to-lunch they actually give him good to excellent ratings on the economy!

Anyone who knows the FACTS knows that Obama’s policies are the same as the Democrats’ standard agenda of raising taxes and increasing spending.

Anyone who knows the FACTS knows that these policies have dominated the federal agenda since Democrats took over Congress in 2006 and brought on and sustained the worst economy this country has endured since the Great Depression.

THE FACT IS that the Democrat Media Complex is NOT telling people the FACTS.

It’s no surprise this is our biggest challenges this year. I found a very recent poll of voter trust in t.v. news sources (January 2012) by Public Policy Polling.  Granted, PPP is a Democratic Party-affiliated polling firm … which is definitely reflected in the snarky comments readers posted under the poll report. Surprisingly, though, I didn’t find any bias in the PPP survey sample. And I really ground those numbers LOOKING for one!

At 700, the sample is short of the ideal 1,000 or more. But the demographics for gender and race are close to the general population. I think the age groups are as well, though I did find a rather serious error in the way the data is reported.

I.e., the age groupings in the question do not match the age groupings in the data. However, I compared the percents with the 2010 census and found the question groupings match well with the percents reported. My conclusion is that someone just screwed up the row labels.

In any event, the Big One … the one thing that biased political polls skew the worst … is the breakdown by party affiliation. And this one the PPP poll got bang on.  GALLUP does a running poll on this subject (URL below), so it’s easy enough to compare how well any survey’s sample matches the population for the date it was taken.

Jan 2012     PPP Sample    GALLUP Party Affiliation Poll
Democrat            41%              30%         47%    with leaners
Republican         35%              27%         44%    with leaners
Independent      24%              42%           9%

PPP over-polled Democrats by 11% and Republicans by 8%, apparently giving a 3% advantage to Democrats. However, 3% is exactly how much Democrats polled over Republicans when leaners were included. So I’m going with accepting the poll results as fairly accurate of American voter opinion about broadcast news media for January 2012.

I spent hours massaging the numbers. I even made some graphics that turned out to say nothing much. So I deleted them again. It turns out there wasn’t anything surprising in the data. Republicans trust Fox. Democrats don’t. What else is new?

One thing did really stick out for me in the survey and that is that they included Comedy Central in the list of “t.v. news sources.” Huh?

I looked it up. The closest “news show” I can find on Comedy Central is “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” … “Describing itself as a fake news program, The Daily Show draws its comedy and satire from recent news stories, political figures, media organizations, and often, aspects of the show itself.”

IOW, PPP included a show that chooses what news it will cover based on where Jon and his writers find the best jokes. That is kinda creeptastic all by itself. But just to make it even more “What the hell do these people use for brains?” … the survey found 28% of all respondents saying they trust Comedy Central as a news source.

The “trust” breakdown was 36% Democrat, 37% Independent, and (sadly) 12% Republican. I’m guessing those last ones are like the fellow Dearest talked to when he was collecting Republican ballot signatures. This older gentleman said he was a lifelong Republican, that he really missed Clinton and thought that Carter was the greatest president in American history. Oy.

Chrissy’s Site Bites: http://news.webshots.com/photo/2824491250056011884JWNTSJ

I was kinda creeped out that Comedy Central came in second (not first) on the most distrusted list, but then I got thinking about it and realized the #1 most distrusted (Fox) needs to be set apart from the rest. As the only news source that gives Conservatives a fair shake, it’s the obvious target for Libtards to pick as most distrusted. Our side, however, has to choose from among seven different, left-biased sources.

I got thinking what my #1 least trusted is on that list and realized it would come down to Comedy Central or MSNBC. Since Comedy Central occasionally sticks it to Obama et al. whereas MSNBC has that thrill up the leg thing going for all things Democrat, I decided I’d go with MSNBC.  And … what do you know? The top two most distrusted tv news sources that are not Fox were Comedy Central (16%) and MSNBC (15%).

I think I have sufficiently established that we can safely IGNORE the one-in-three voters who are either hard core Leftists or else too stoned on Leftist kool-aid to listen to anything we’d have to say.  One can hope the “too stoned” will party hearty the night before election day and be too hung over to remember to vote. Or else that they’ll be too dumb to find their polling place … especially those of us who are being redistricted so who the heck knows WHERE we’ll be sent to vote this year.

As for the rest … 50% of us are on board. How we shake down in the electoral college is an important issue, of course, but we only need to win enough votes, not all the votes, or even a ‘whelming majority of votes.

I think the key is to continue telling the TRUTH. We’ve got the facts and the record of history on our side. All they’ve got is a lot of news media sources willing to do free PR for the Democrats.

And honestly … I don’t think it’s working all that well for them any more. One in five liberals said they do trust Fox News, but do not trust MSNBC. One in four Democrats said they do trust Fox News, but do not trust MSNBC.

People really hate being lied to, so once they get wise to how biased the Laughing Stock Media really is, they’re not going to go back. We just need to stay on point, not let them choose the agenda, and never back down when they call us names.

I am Andrew Breitbart!

Are you a Democrat, a Republican or a Southerner?

Here  is a little test that will help you decide.

You’re walking down a deserted street with your wife and children. Suddenly, a man with a huge knife comes around the corner, locks eyes with you, screams obscenities, raises the knife, and charges at you. You are carrying a Kimber 1911 cal. 45 ACP, and you are an expert shot. You have mere seconds before he reaches you and your family. What do you do?

THINK  CAREFULLY BEFORE READING FURTHER.

If you answered, “Well, that’s not enough information to answer the question … do I have a phone to call 911? What is a Kimber 1911 cal. 45 ACP? Does the man look poor or oppressed? Have I ever done anything to him that would inspire him to attack? Could we run away? What does my wife think? What does the law say about this situation?  Is this gun registered? Why am I an expert shot? I hate guns. What kind of message does carrying a loaded gun send to my children? Is it possible this man would be happy with just killing me? Maybe he would be content to just wound me. If I were to grab his knees and hold on, could my family get away while he was stabbing me? Why is this street so deserted? Can we make this a happier, healthier street that would discourage such behavior? We need to raise taxes, have a paint & weed day. I can’t answer this question right now. I need to talk it over with my friends and try to come to a consensus…”, then you are a Democrat.

If you answered, “BANG!”, then you are a Republican.

If you answered, “BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! click reload BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!”, then you are a Southerner. And if your family said things like, “Nice grouping” or “Can I shoot the next one?”, then they are Southerners too and you should all go out and get yourself some fried food with lots of bar-b-que sauce on it to celebrate.

Civil Rights and the Democratic Party

The next time anyone claims that Democrats have been supporting civil rights in America since the dawn of time, send them here:

Mythbusting DNC’s Historical Lies @

Chrissy’s Site Bites: http://community.webshots.com/album/582444369XbbevP

Granted, most of the examples are from before most of us were born. But the Democrat website claims they have “worked to pass” and “led the fight” on “every one of our nation’s Civil Rights laws” which is just pure donkey manure.

Those who actually admit to the truth of the Democratic Party’s history still manage to claim that TODAY’S Democrats are the Good People, because all those Bad Old Racist Southern Democrats went and defected to the Republican Party where they acted like a rotten apple in the pro-civil rights barrel of the GOP so that now ALL Republicans are EVIL RAAAAACISTS!

Yeah, right.

The Republican Party was founded in 1854 with the express purpose of ending slavery in the United States. When the first Republican president, Abraham Lincoln, was elected, Southern Democrats seceded from the union rather than accept him as their national leader.

The voting records make it clear that from that time straight through the civil rights acts of 1964-65, it was Republicans who were fighting for civil rights advancements and Democrats who were fighting them.

What has been the big exception since then?

Abortion.

But it is only Democrats who consider the legal killing of unborn Americans to be a civil right.

Republicans consider it worse than slavery or capital punishment. Slaves were fed and housed. Capital criminals get free legal counsel and years of mandatory appeals. The inconvenient unborn aren’t even granted an advocate to speak for them, never mind a hearing or a waiting period before they can be summarily executed.

And they didn’t lose their unalienable Right to Life because a majority of Americans decided they should. They were deemed “nonpersons” (i.e., “property”) under the law by a 5-4 decision of the Supreme Court.

And this society-changing legal decision wasn’t based on any clearly stated unalienable right that had been written into the Constitution by our founding fathers.

It was based on a shadowy right that only some of the most liberal of the justices claimed to have discerned in the “penumbra” of rights listed therein.

(The penumbra is the lighter part of a shadow. The darker part is called the umbra.)

More than 50 million unborn Americans have been slaughtered because a handful of black robed justices and a majority of Democrats decided that this unstated and shadowy “right to privacy” was more important than the clearly stated and spotlighted-in-the-first-line “right to life.”

When it comes to civil rights, 50 million dead babies is about all the modern Democratic Party can really call its own … and they call us the evil ones.

Republicans, Democrats and Blacks

Click on graphics to embiggen.

The Civil Rights Act of 1871 is still one of the most powerful authorities with which state and federal courts may protect those whose rights are deprived.

Ku Klux Klan means “Circle of Brothers” [kuklos = Greek for circle].

1869–1871   41st Congress   3 Blacks, all Republicans, 1 Senator
1871–1873   42nd Congress  5 Blacks, all Republicans
1873–1875   43rd Congress   7 Blacks, all Republicans
1875–1877   44th Congress   7 Blacks, all Republicans, 1 Senator
1877–1879   45th Congress   4 Blacks, all Republicans, 1 Senator

Enforcement of the Civil Rights Act of 1871 suppressed Klan activity. In 1874 and later, newly organized and openly active paramilitary organizations, such as the White League and the Red Shirts, started a fresh round of violence aimed at suppressing blacks’ voting and running Republicans out of office.

The violence and laws designed to prevent Blacks from voting allowed segregationist white Democrats to regain political power in all Southern states by 1877.

The number of Blacks elected to Congress began to decline until, from 1902 to 1929, there were none.

Democrats created the HHS mandate requiring ALL health insurance plans to provide birth control, sterilization and the morning-after abortion pill, thus forcing Americans who oppose these activities to choose between paying for them, which would violate their consciences, or else stop offering health insurance to their employees.

Democrats and their lapdogs in the media lied about what the HHS mandate and the Blunt Amendment were about. Rather than admit the HHS mandate was a gross abrogation of our First Amendment rights, they claimed Catholics and Republicans were trying to deprive women of access to birth control, sterilization and the morning-after abortion pill.
