Given the manner in which the special counsel, Robert Mueller, is expanding his hyper partisan witch hunt into all things Trump it would be no surprise to me if, at some point, the president fires him. He is well within the scope of his executive authority, but the hue and cry from the left would be deafening. I just can’t see Trump allowing this carnival of pain to continue much longer.

Our National Obsession

It was more than 20 years ago when I started a hobby collecting the toy cap pistols which were such a large part of my youth, when western shows were on television every day, and many happy hours were spent pretending to be Roy Rogers, Wyatt Earp, or the Rifleman. They were all good guys who ended up vanquishing evil by the end of the show.
I was first bitten by the collecting bug when I saw a toy from my past on a dealers table at a flea market. We both had good jobs then and enjoyed going to antique malls, flea markets, and especially auctions. Any auction with collectibles drew a lot of people looking to make a living selling on eBay, when it was in its infancy. You could get some good deals if you knew what anything was worth, but you needed experience or some kind of price guide. You needed to start with a warehouse full of merchandise and sell at least 75-100 items a week, shipping things out, while trying to maintain inventory and still make enough to live on.
Nowadays it is nearly impossible to get any kind of bargain at auction. Everybody now carries a smart phone. You no longer need any knowledge at all. See an item, look it up and get an idea of exactly what it’s worth. Fortunately, by the time these electronic gizmos took over the lives of most people in the free world I had retired and sold off nearly everything I had. There is no longer much need for education with a world of information at your fingertips.
This is a potentially dangerous situation, given the possibility our world could be turned to chaos after a serious cyber attack. Now comes the point of this mindless rambling:

Supposedly the RINOs have mutinied and seized control of the ship of state. You can blame Collins et al. for being first out of the gate in trampling repeal but you’re kidding yourself if you think they’re the only three members of the caucus who oppose it.
I understand the disgust with Murkowski and Capito for having voted for clean repeal in 2015, when they knew it would be vetoed by Obama, only to turn around now and refuse to vote for it when it actually matters. (Collins has opposed repeal all along.) That’s seven years of GOP posturing on ObamaCare in a nutshell: Lots of big talk about undoing Obama’s legacy and then no guts when an opportunity to do it actually arises. They’re shameless panderers. But, if they honestly believe that repeal now without a replacement would destabilize the already fragile ObamaCare exchanges, it’d be foolish to cast a destructive vote purely for the sake of consistency.

Some Republicans Want Rule Changed To Stop Dem Obstruction

Some Republicans hinted Monday they are ready to strike back at Democrats for “abusing” a Senate procedure to slow down President Trump’s nominees.
Although all presidential appointments now only require a simple majority vote (known as a cloture vote) to move forward from debate for a final up or down vote, the minority can still demand 30 hours of non-continuous floor debate before the procedure.
During Neil Gorsuch’s confirmation earlier this year, Republicans changed the cloture rule to include SCOTUS picks to require only a simple majority vote.
However, the 30-hour debate rule remained, and Democrats have used the procedure to drag out Trump appointments over long periods of time — to the frustration of Republicans.

Barack Obama trafficked guns to Mexican drug lords, secretly delivered pallets filled with billions in cash to Iran’s America/Jew-hating mullahs, left four Americans to die in Benghazi and then lied about it, allowed his Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to exchange government favors for hundreds of millions of dollars slushed into the Clinton Foundation, sic’d his IRS on everyday, law-abiding Americans, and used a trillion dollars in “stimulus” funds to pay off his cronies, like those behind a boondoggle called Solyndra.

And all along, over eight terrible years, our media did a whole lot more than just let Obama get away with it. They wholeheartedly colluded. They allowed Obama to persecute them through the Department of Justice and to lie to our face (remember: I just now read about it in the newspaper, the IRS did nothing wrong, you can keep your insurance). And when that wasn’t enough, the media mercilessly attacked as racist anyone who criticized the Precious and ginned up nothingburgers like Todd Akin to distract from those four dead Americans. And when even that wasn’t enough, they themselves lied and obfuscated, covered up and dissembled, and most of all they set all kinds of precedents that, in a delicious form of irony, are now driving this utterly failed institution to the edge of insanity.

The very same media that shrugged when Hillary Clinton set up a secret server, deleted 33,000 government emails, BleachBit’d whatever remained and then literally took a hammer to the devices — the media that set that precedent now wants us to get all worked up over Trump’s tweets?

The very same media that buried Bill Clinton’s perjury and his numerous victims of sexual abuse — the media that set those precedents now wants us to consider an Access Hollywood video a disqualifier for the presidency? Now wants us to freak out over an awkward handshake?

The very same media that gushed over Barack Obama’s magical ability to “slow-walk the truth” — the media that set that precedent now wants us to impeach Trump over how the details of his son’s meeting with a Russian lawyer have been released?

The very same media that joined Obama in pointing and laughing at Mitt Romney’s concern over Russia, the very same media that told us Obama’s serial-appeasement of Russia (refusing Poland missile defense, “more flexibility after the election”) was in reality an extraordinary form of statesmanship — the media that set those precedents now wants us to toss Trump out on his ear because he’s hoping to work with Putin?

The very same media that covered up the fact that Democrats and Team Hillary worked with the foreign government of Ukraine in the hopes of digging up dirt on Trump, the media that itself has used opposition research from the Russian government (the Golden Showers dossier) in the hopes of destroying Trump — the media that set those precedents now want us to turn on Trump because his son hoped for the same?

The very same media that again and again used “Republican overreach” as a tactic to damage the GOP whenever a Democrat scandal rose up — the media that set that precedent now wants us to side with them when the Trump administration chooses to communicate directly through social media?

The very same media that asked 23 follow-up questions of Trump and none of Hillary — the media that set that precedent now wants us to side with them when the White House limits the press briefings they can peacock in?

The very same media that said nothing when Obama hired a 9-11 Truther as a Czar (and later hired him as one of their own) — the media that set that precedent wants us to be upset over Ivanka and Jared?

The very same media that showed absolutely no interest in recovering even one of Hillary’s 33,000 illegally deleted emails — the media that set that precedent, now wants us to share their outrage over the fact that Don Jr. tried to recover them in a 20-minute meeting?

And now — now! — this very same media (with the help of #NeverTrump’s forever-preening moral narcissists) is using the spear of Muh Principles to demand that those of us on the political right agree to destroy ourselves in their corrupt crusade, that we acquiesce like second-class citizens to their separate sets of rules?

Like hell.

The thing about being retired is that Friday has no real significance and we’re generally happy on Monday. We have the freedom to do whatever we want without asking permission. Miss Olivia pitched her first game last night and RJ has his first Pony League Tournament game tonight. I just wish the rain hadn’t swollen the river over flood stage so we can’t get the boat in yet. Problems, problems.

Trump nominates round of district court judges

President Trump unveiled a round of 11 judicial nominees Thursday for openings on district courts across the country.

Trump announced his intent to fill openings on district courts in Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina and Oklahoma.

As of July 13, there were 108 current vacancies on district courts with six nominees pending, according to the Administrative Office of the United States Courts’ website.

We’re not delving deeply into the latest developments of this cockeyed non-story, but we just thought it was worth mentioning that Natalia Veselnitskaya, the Russian attorney with whom Donald Trump Jr. briefly met, must have been living in a Siberian cave for the last couple of decades if she wasn’t able to offer up some plausible dirt on Hillary.

Seriously, if we’d met with Trump Jr, we could have talked for hours about Hillary’s myriad scandals and misdeeds.

The fact that Veselnitskaya couldn’t and didn’t only lends additional credibility to the idea that she was more likely an operative representing Loretta Lynch and Barack Obama than Vladimir Putin. Just days before she embarked on her lobbying campaign, Veselnitskaya was cleared by the Obama Justice Department to enter the United States without a visa.

A new survey from the Pew Research Center finds that a majority of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents (58 percent) now think that colleges and universities are having a negative impact on the United States. That’s up from 45 percent last year.
For comparison, most Democrats and Democratic leaners (72 percent) think that institutions of higher learning are having a positive effect on the country, which is consistent with poll results from recent years.
Attacks on free speech, political bias among professors and demonstrations seeking to cancel invitations to speakers with unpopular views have all become talking points among conservative pundits. Among the right, “safe spaces,” “trigger warnings” and “micro-aggressions” have become shorthand for thin-skinned liberal students who cannot handle opposing points of view.

They served her cash and she served them the public’s votes. She again is facing a felony, this time for vote buying and electioneering.

Back to Work

After a much-needed weekend respite we’re back, slaving over a hot keyboard. As Sgt. Joe Friday once said of being an LA cop: ‘It’s an endless, glamor-less, thankless job that’s gotta be done.’

Friday was spent on beautiful Lake Geneva with a good friend. Got lots of fish and too much sun. Saturday I had a tire go flat while I was delivering papers. Fortunately, I made it home and Miss Isabel’s dad is a mechanic who came over and fixed it.

Saturday night we enjoyed chicken and mashed taters with genuine chicken gravy and fresh green beans with our best friends. Yesterday RJ played his last regular season baseball game. He’s already practicing for Freshman football and DW’s son came by with pizza last night.

I glanced at the news infrequently, as nothing ever changes much. My queue runneth over with news tidbits and I’ll try to cover some of the more notable things.

First, the G20 summit went as most people expected. One news reader on the radio said it was more like “the G 19 and Donald Trump.” It doesn’t take a genius to assume the sworn enemies of truth, the American media, will savage Trump from pillar to post no matter what he does.

Brian Fallon, a CNN political commentator and former spokesman for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, responded to the news with a tweet: “I’m sure Republicans would have taken it in stride if Chelsea Clinton was deputized to perform head of state duties,” he wrote.

Barack Hussein Obama was the first president to take the chairmanship of the U.N. Security Council which many argued is a violation of section 9 of the Constitution yet the media cheered him on as ‘King of the world’.

The liberals also insulted Ivanka Trump by saying she’s only a shoe designer or a handbag designer so she has no business being there.

Imagine that President Trump gave a speech praising a strong Europe.

Imagine that he called forthrightly on Russia to stop its aggression in Ukraine and join the community of responsible nations.

Imagine that he embraced the mutual-defense commitment, so-called Article 5, of NATO.

He said that large economies and fearsome weapons aren’t enough for our survival; we need “strong families and strong values,” and “bonds of history, culture and memory.”

It argued that we must demonstrate civilizational self-confidence, the will to defend our values.

Finally, it unapologetically invoked “the West,” which, Trump noted, writes symphonies, rewards brilliance, values freedom and human dignity and has created a truly great community of nations.

All of this strikes the ears of Trump’s progressive critics the wrong way. They believe that nations are best constrained by multinational or supra-national institutions like the EU. They think that all the non-material things that lend our lives meaning — God, family, national loyalty — are atavistic, overrated or best not spoken of too much.
