What a beautiful day Saturday was.When my eldest called last week to wish me a happy birthday she mentioned my 10 year old grandson had a football game Saturday.His dad is a big guy and very active in sports.my grandson,RJ,plays base ball and Jr. takle football and big sis plays softball and volleyball.(she has a game Friday).I had planned on going many times before,but like  when DD was young,I always had an excuse at the ready.Not anymore.I grabbed a couple folding chairs and DW and I headed to the small town just west of here where they live.The main street is lined with signs touting the team and individual state championships their high school kids have won.

This is classic small-town Americana.They had games for 5th,6th,7th and 8th graders on the playing field behind the high school.There were all kinds of families there rooting their little gridiron heroes.RJ had dad,mom,stepdad,stepmom,grandpa,two grandmas,sissy,an aunt and three uncles.They so cool in their blaze orange jerseys and helmets that made it look like their head was too big for their body.But the running and tackling was no joke.The booster club had a stand set up near one end zone selling water,pop,hot dogs and popcorn.At halftime the 5th and 6th grade cheerleaders came out and did their routines.It was such a hoot watching my kid go nuts whenever her baby ran with the ball or got tackled.I can’t remember when I’ve had a better time.Its the most sunshine I’ve gotten in years.Even got a bit of a tan.Looking forward to going again,maybe this coming week.

I confess I have not delved too deeply into the rodeo clown story,other than to smile at the reactions of the leftards,but the clown was supposed to be wearing the Obama mask.Look closely you’ll see a broom propping up this dummy.No bullfighter in their right mind would wear a mask that limited their peripheral vision and line of sight while dealing with over a ton of solid muscle with sharp hooves and a head like stone.I had run-ins with our breed bull a few times and wouldn’t recommend it if you don’t know exactly what you’re doing.

August 4, 2013: Emergency workers and community members in eastern Missouri are not sure what to make of a mystery priest who showed up at a critical accident scene Sunday morning and whose prayer seemed to change life-threatening events for the positive. Even odder, the black-garbed priest does not appear in any of the nearly 70 photos of the scene of the accident in which a 19-year-old girl almost died.

Father Mychal Judge is the best fit I’ve seen so far for the identity of the mystery priest. He was the FDNY chaplain who died on 9/11. It makes sense that if God was going to let him continue doing good works on Earth that he’d want to go to emergency rescue situations.

The sketch below is based on witness descriptions. On the sketch, I can definitely see a likeness.

One first responder said this sketch looked nothing like the priest he saw who he said looked a little like Walter Mathau, but with not quite as big a nose. Kinda like this?

The details of Father Mychal Judge’s last hour and death reflect the great heroism and holiness of his entire life.

As Mychal rushed into the North Tower with firefighters, Mayor Rudy Giuliani called out, “Father Mike, pray for us!” Mychal responded, “I always do! I always pray for you!” These were his last public words — his promise to always pray for us.

Other priests also came to the scene, but Mychal was the only priest to actually enter either WTC building. He continued to offer absolution, prayers, and assistance in the lobby as death rained all around him.

When commanders gave orders to evacuate the building, he refused to abandon the hundreds of firefighters still trapped inside saying, “My work here is not finished.”

At 9:50 – 9:55 AM, Mychal climbed up to the mezzanine attempting to reach some injured firefighters. Seeing dozens of jumpers crashing onto the plaza outside, he cried out fervently and repeatedly, “Jesus, please end this right now! God, please end this!”

Mychal was struck on the head and killed at 9:59 AM when the South Tower collapse sent concrete and debris flying through the North Tower lobby at speeds of over 100mph.

He was designated as Victim 0001 because his was the first body recovered from the scene. He was buried at Holy Sepulcher cemetery in Totowa, NJ.

I put the sketch with pics of the dead priests I’ve seen suggested as possibles. None of them jump out at me. Anyone seen any other names put forward?

UPDATE: I collected a bunch of pics of Fr Mychal Judge.

I think Aussie picked it. On the sketch, I can definitely see Judge in the chin, ears and high brow. Plus it just makes sense that if God was going to let him continue doing good works on Earth that he’d go to emergency rescue situations.

I have no problem with the descriptions witnesses giving being different. My brother shared an office with another guy for a while who looked so much like him from the side that people were forever greeting the one sitting at the desk by the other’s name. Yet from the front, their faces were quite different.  Besides which … I can definitely see Walter Matthau in the bottom middle one.

The top right one reminds me of John Wayne, while the bottom right one reminds me of a couple older actors I can’t remember the names of, but if shown either of these photos without a label, I would have no idea they were Fr Mychal Judge.

I already had a bunch of stuff for Friday.Be a shame to waste it.

SD is bringing the little ones to town today.Our park district converted an old farm into a children’s farm and petting zoo decades ago,that is near where I grew up.They have milking demonstrations,a petting zoo,a pony ring,trail rides and in the fall,the hayrides are very popular.I want to show my angels where Pawpaw grew up just so they can,in some small way.connect the past with their lives.The photo is 3 years old…they’re no 6 and 9.I can’t believe how the years slip by so fast.

To all those who took offense at my poor choice of words yesterday,I sincerely apologize.I could write a long explanation as to how I came to this lot in life but once a trust has been broken it is not easily repaired.Everybody here has treated me with great kindness and respect and you deserve far better.Perhaps one day you will find it.
