Obama vs Romney on Israel

This is another area where the difference between the two candidates could not be greater. Many Jews and Christians care deeply about Israel. If you talk with any about November, the resources below may prove useful.

Earlier this week, Nancy Pelosi stated emphatically that “President Obama … has been [to Israel] over and over again.”

http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/pelosi-republican-jews-being-exploited_649077.html

Pelosi’s statement is misleading on two counts. “Over and over again” reads like “three or more” whereas Barack Obama has been to Israel only two times. Both were brief visits when he was a U.S. Senator. He has never been to Israel as President or as a private citizen.

During his 24 hour visit in July 2008, Obama made a speech in which he promised that, if he won the presidential election, he would work “from the minute I’m sworn into office” towards ending the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

I don’t follow that part of the news very closely, but so far as I’m aware, the situation has not improved one bit in the 3 years and 7 months since the minute Obama was sworn into office. But then we’ve seen in recent blogs how much “work” Obama does not do.

Romney pledges support for Israel [9:13]

This video is long. Basically, Romney told an Israeli audience in Jerusalem that the United States has “a solemn duty and a moral imperative” to block Iran from achieving nuclear weapons capability, while Obama has done nothing to deter Iran’s loudly stated intentions to develop the ability to nuke Israel into a radioactive cloud of dust.

March 4, 2012: Obama spoke to AIPAC and claimed he’s been there for Israel at every critical juncture in his presidency.

Since this is a recent statement on his relationship to Israel while he’s been President, I’m including it for anyone who wants to hear his side of the story. The video (embedded at URL) is long, but the transcript is linked at the page if you prefer to skim that.

http://www.whitehouse.gov/photos-and-video/video/2012/03/04/president-obama-2012-aipac-policy-conference

Obama and his peeps say he’s a friend to Israel. Rudy Giuliani says he is the “least supportive” U.S. President in history. [2:28]

I’m thinking that if Obama were telling the truth about having been such a big, hot supporter of Israel’s interests, he’d be really popular in Israel now. KWIM? So why is his approval in Israel only 12%? Hmm? Maybe he’s exaggerating or might I even say lying about having done so much for Israel? Noooooooo … Obama lie? ::snort::

This week, Romney is visiting Israel, so naturally Obama is suddenly sending millions in aid money there. (And here I thought we were broke. Ahem.) Is Obama throwing OUR (borrowed from China) money at Israel just a campaign gag? Let me think …

Remember when Ben Nelson sold out his Pro-Life values for a meaningless executive order saying Obama would never allow tax moneys to be used for abortion. Riiiight. And who has been sending money to Planned Parenthood in states that have defunded them? PP is the biggest abortion provider in the country.

Obama himself said, “If you want to know where my heart lies, look no further than what I have done.” I’ve been looking right along and it’s clear to me that what Obama does when he wants something from you bears no resemblance to what he’ll do once he has gotten what he wants out of you.

JEOPARDY: GEOGRAPHY

Answer: It is the capital of Israel.

Question: ….. ???

Israel says Jerusalem is its capital, but it has not been internationally recognized as such. The status of the city, and especially its holy places, remains a core issue in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerusalem

Here is Obama’s mealy mouthed, flip-flopping excuse for “policy” on the capital of Israel [1:41]

Here is Romney’s position statement on this issue. [1:21]

Major hat tip with a cane twirl and time step for Pistol Pete who first posted a lot of this stuff for our edification.

Mitt Romney’s position on LIFE

I am firmly pro-life. I believe that if abortion were limited to cases of rape, incest, and circumstances in which the mother’s life is in peril, we will have gone a long way to ending abortion in this country. I support the reversal of Roe v. Wade, because it is bad law and bad medicine. Roe was a misguided ruling that was a result of a small group of activist federal judges legislating from the bench.

I support the Hyde Amendment, which broadly bars the use of federal funds for abortions. And as president, I will end federal funding for abortion advocates like Planned Parenthood.

I will reinstate the Mexico City Policy to ensure that nongovernmental organizations that receive funding from America refrain from performing or promoting abortion services, as a method of family planning, in other countries. This includes ending American funding for any United Nations or other foreign assistance program that promotes or performs abortions on women around the world.

I will advocate for and support a Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act to protect unborn children who are capable of feeling pain from abortion.

And perhaps most importantly, I will only appoint judges who adhere to the Constitution and the laws as they are written, not as they want them to be written.

As Governor of Massachusetts, I fought to promote abstinence education in the classroom, vetoed legislation to provide emergency contraception without a prescription, and vetoed embryonic cloning legislation. I am proud to say that each time I was presented with legislation on life issues, I sided with life. I remain strongly dedicated to that position.

I am running for president because I believe in America and know that our best days are still ahead. I believe that the principles that made America the leader of the world today—freedom, opportunity, and free enterprise to name just a few—are the very principles that will keep America the leader of the world tomorrow. These last few years have not been the best of times. But while we’ve lost a few years, we have not lost our way.

Common sense on gun control

The mass murder in Aurora, Colorado, has brought forth the usual Leftist calls for more gun control legislation. Obama is no exception, weeping crocodile tears for

“the dozens gunned down on the streets of Chicago and Atlanta, and here in New Orleans … Milwaukee or Cleveland.”

Romney made a different, and to my mind more common sense, point.

“A lot of what this … young man did was clearly against the law. But the fact that it was against the law did not prevent it from happening.”

Polar opposites

Voters consistently poll that the economy is our #1 concern. This is not an election where “there’s not a dime’s worth of difference” between the two candidates. They are polar opposites. Romney is a free market capitalist. Obama is a big government socialist.

In these video clips, the two presidential candidates explain their economic philosophies very simply and succinctly.

The beatings will continue

President Obama’s July 13th speech in Roanoke, Virginia, lasted 42 minutes and the part of the speech where President Obama discussed small businesses and entrepreneurs can be found at 33:32, and lasts about a minute.

If you watch a video of that part of the speech without sound, the first thing you notice is that there is no smile, only a determined, forced smile from time to time.

President Obama looks angry, as if he is barely containing his foul tempter about the subject, even though he is speaking to a bunch of adoring fans.

And a real transcript of that part of the speech would really read like this:

PRESIDENT OBAMA: And you know there are a lot of wealthy, successful Americans who agree with me — because they want to give something back.

They know they didn’t — if, if (stammer) you’ve been successful, you don’t, you didn’t get there on your own. (Pause)

AUDIENCE: No! That’s right! That’s right! That’s right!

PRESIDENT OBAMA: You, you didn’t get there on your own. I’m always struck by people who think, ‘well, it must be because I was, just so smart.’ There are a lot of smart people out there.

AUDIENCE: Yes…

PRESIDENT OBAMA: ‘It must be because I worked harder than everybody else.’ Let me tell you something — there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there. (Pause)

AUDIENCE: YES! YES! (clapping)

PRESIDENT OBAMA: If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help.

AUDIENCE: YES!

PRESIDENT OBAMA: There was a great teacher somewhere in your life.

AUDIENCE: YES!

PRESIDENT OBAMA: Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business — that (stammer) — you didn’t build that.

AUDIENCE: That’s right…

PRESIDENT OBAMA: Somebody else made that happen.

AUDIENCE: Yes…

President Obama is mocking a whole group of Americans, small business people and entrepreneurs. He essentially says that the people who do most of the hiring, and whose companies create most of the new, innovative products in this country are idiots worthy of presidential ridicule. And his Leftie audience of “Tolerant” supporters eats it up.

Obama’s upside down economy

Mitt Responds To Obama: “Liberal Policies Don’t Make Good Jobs!” [7:16]

Good speech, easy to understand. Obama talks and talks about “fairness” and wants to focus on making us hate the rich. But I do not care how rich the rich are! I do care about how poor the poor are. So did the Founders.

What the wealthy do with their dough is between them and God, not between them and Barack Obama. His economic policies have hurt the middle class and the poor the most. The wealthy can handle a dip in income, right? Not so much those of us who live near the edge.

Even those who have a nest egg can’t go on for long using it to pay for the basics. Those who live on the raggedly edge of an old shoe string, paycheck to paycheck, scraping to make the rent every month, those people cannot handle ANY dip.

According to God, coveting is akin to murder! It makes sense, since envy is a soul killer and God cares way more about our eternal souls than about our temporal bodies. So should we.

“Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.” Matthew 10:28 (NIV)

Which man do you trust?

Please take time for this one. I think it gets straight to the heart of the single most important issue in this or any campaign — character. I especially encourage you to listen to the video linked below. The story is touching, but beyond that, I think Mitt’s delivery is worth noting. He talks about “we” a lot and minimizes his own contributions and sacrifices. Compare that with how Barack talks (and talks and talks) about himself.

Obama and Romney: Character Shows By Karin McQuillan – July 9, 2012
http://www.americanthinker.com/2012/07/obama_and_romney_character_shows.html

Character is consistent.  Voters say moral character is one of the most important things they look for in choosing the president.  The character of a public figure can be hard to discern amidst a fog of self-advertising, media hype, and the distorting effects of TV.  That is why personal stories about Romney and Obama, before they were candidates, are crucial.  Voters want to understand what kind of man they are electing.

An unusual personal story gives us insight into Mitt Romney.  It is 1996.  Mitt Romney is the head of Bain Capital in Boston.  One of his employees comes to him, utterly distraught.  His 14-year-old daughter snuck out of the house to go to a rave in New York and has been missing for three days.  One of her teen friends said he gave her ecstasy and that he last saw her partying under a bridge.

Did Romney offer sympathy and hope?  Write a check for a private detective?  Wait for the government to solve it?  No — he took responsibility.  He took action.  He shut down the firm and brought all the employees to New York.  For 48 hours, they scoured the streets, going everywhere, asking teenagers if they’d seen the missing girl.  Romney called on business associates to send more people to help until they numbered 200.  He printed 300,000 fliers and got Duane Reade, one of Bain’s success stories, to put fliers in every shopper’s bag in their 52 stores.  Romney set up a hotline.  A broken-off phone call was traced; the girl was discovered in the basement of a house in New Jersey and reunited with her family.

“Mitt’s done a lot of things that are nearly impossible, but for me the most important thing he’s ever done was to help save my daughter,” says the girl’s father.

Hear Romney describe what happened in this YouTube video of a town hall meeting.

The Left’s Magic Tolerance

It appears and disappears … just like magic!

The highest-ranking Mormon in the federal government is Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Democrat from Nevada. But that’s okay, say the Dems. Reid is a MINO (Mormon in Name Only). Kinda like Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi, etc. are CINO (Catholic in Name Only).

Cuz, you see, sitting in a pew listening to someone say “G_d Damn America” is hunky-dory with the Left. It’s only having a deep faith in God and Jesus and — the horror — values and beliefs that are consistent with American ideals upon which this country was founded that is unacceptable.

Other LDS members in high office include: Senators Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), Mike Lee (R-Utah), Tom Udall (D-New Mexico), and Representatives Rob Bishop (R-Utah), Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah), Jeff Flake (R-Arizona), Dean Heller (R-Nevada), Wally Herger (R-California), Raul Labrador (R-Idaho), Jim Matheson (D-Utah), Buck McKeon (R-California), and Mike Simpson (R-Idaho).

According to pollsters, those who had reservations about a Mormon in the White House most often cited polygamy as their reason.

The Mormon church completely banned plural marriages worldwide in 1904. That was not just before Mitt Romney was born. It was before Mitt Romney’s father was born! Sheesh.

The stuff at the two links below is fun, funny and enlightening. I’m also tickled that not just one, but TWO people with whom I have a personal connection made it to the same Twitchy aggregation! Angela Nelson and Lori Ziganto.
