VIDEO: The Tea Party vs. Occupy Wall Street [5:50]
This video presents a very simple explanation of the fundamental and extremely important differences that exist between the classical liberalism of the Tea Parties and the progressive agenda advanced by the OWS movement.
It is based on “Why Progressive Institutions are Unsustainable” by Richard A. Epstein, the Laurence A. Tisch Professor of Law at the New York University School of Law and Professor of Law Emeritus at the University of Chicago Law School.
My thoughts … the video says there is “no middle ground” between these two schools of economic thought.
Now … I have heard that Distributism is a middle ground or “third way” to Socialism and Capitalism and I agree with the Distributist principle, which is that the economic system that best promotes happiness and social justice is one in which capitalism is practiced by as many people as possible via family- and worker-owned businesses.
But I confess to know little about how Distributism works in real life.
The way I understand things, there is a spectrum with total government control of the economy on the Left end (Socialism) and zero government control of the economy on the Right (Laissez-faire Capitalism).
The way the video describes Progressivism definitely puts it at the Left end, but I’m not so sure the “classical liberalism” of the Tea Party movement is at the Right end.
All the Tea Partiers I know are middle class folks with families and, often, small businesses. And I’ve often heard it said that America is predominantly “center-right”, which looks to me like where Distributism falls as well.
FOR BLACKS,VOTING RIGHTS INCLUDE IDENTIFYING DEMOCRATS ON BALLOT
The Justice Department prevented the 2008 referendum change, arguing in part that “the elimination of party affiliation on the ballot will likely reduce the ability of blacks to elect candidates of choice.”
What Holder just admitted was that most blacks are too damn illiterate to read more than one letter. Our education system is doing their job.

TIME magazine named the “Protester” its person of the year for 2011. Lumped in this category were sundry Tunisians, Libyans, Greeks, Russians, and those Americans “who occupy public spaces to protest income inequality.”
Last year, when TIME magazine had a chance to give the Tea Party its due, TIME named Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg “Person of the Year.”
It was an obvious slight, especially since the Tea Party protesters’ efforts led to something tangible — namely, the gain of 63 Republican seats in the House and the loss of Democratic control.
But TIME doesn’t give a toot for any protester whose cause does not toe the Democrats’ party line.
For example, TIME totally ignored the one serious protester who served real jail time in 2011. Lt. Col. Terry Lakin spent five months in prison at Fort Leavenworth before his release in May of this year. His crime — his real crime, that is — was to challenge Barack Obama’s constitutional eligibility to be president.
Lakin never claimed to know where President Obama was born or whether he was eligible. The problem, as Lakin saw it, was that no one knew. As an Army officer, one sworn “to support and defend the Constitution,” he felt an obligation to pursue the truth.
For more than a year, Lakin plied all regular channels to get at the facts. He had no intention of becoming a martyr to the cause, but in 2010 he received deployment orders to Afghanistan. Said the order: “Bring five (5) copies of your birth certificate.”
For Lakin, that did it. If he had to produce a birth certificate to deploy, Obama needed one to send him. He had already served in Afghanistan and Bosnia, but this time he refused to deploy, hoping that military due process would resolve the eligibility question.
He did not succeed. The media brought no pressure to bear on his behalf. Where they noticed him at all, it was only to ridicule him.
Another military protester the Left couldn’t love was Petty Officer Kathleen Janoski. In 1996, Janoski was the head of the forensic photography team at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware. It was she who discovered what appeared to be a bullet-hole in the head of Ron Brown, the Clinton Commerce secretary killed in a Croatian airplane crash.
Frustrated by the lack of official action, she and her colleagues went public with their concern that Brown had been murdered and that White House pressure to bar an autopsy on his body was part of a cover up.
The following day, the Washington Post did what the mainstream media routinely did during the Clinton years — attacked the whistle blowers.
For their commitment to truth and the rule of law, the officers who went public were crucified by the White House, who saw to it that all four of their military careers were derailed, even ruined.
True to form, TIME magazine offered not a word of support for any of them.

The Laughing Stock Media even turned their collective back on one of their own, James Sanders, who had done the original, boots-on-the-ground reporting on the 1996 crash of TWA Flight 800.
With the aid of the chief 747 pilot inside the investigation, Sanders first broke the story that the plane had been downed by missile fire.
For their efforts, he, the pilot and the flight attendant who introduced them were all arrested on federal conspiracy charges.
At their arraignment in 1997, no one in the media crowd managed to frame a single First Amendment question. When Sanders’ lawyer at that time attempted to bring this issue into focus, a Newsday reporter argued the government line.
Unlike the lapdog media, the New York Post published this:
“More than 150 credible witnesses – including several scientists and business executives – have told the FBI and military experts they saw a missile destroy TWA 800. ‘Some of these people are extremely, extremely credible,’ a top federal official said. ‘When we asked what they saw and where they saw it, the witnesses out east pointed to the west, and the people to the west pointed to the east’.” – The New York Post, September 22, 1996.

(AP) HUTCHINSON, Kan. – A tea party group in Kansas says its depiction of President Barack Obama as a skunk is satire, not racism as the leader of a civil rights group alleges.Hutchinson-based Patriot Freedom Alliance says on its website that like the president, the skunk is “half black, half white, and almost everything it does stinks.”The Hutchinson News reports local NAACP president Darrell Pope sees no humor in the depiction, which he calls a blatant statement of racism.
Local tea party supporter Chuck Sankey says former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin has been the target of worse insults than what’s on the website.
Patriot Freedom Alliance meets regularly and has hosted rallies in the Hutchinson Sports Arena.
L.N. Smithee -As a fellow black conservative, nobody wanted to believe there was more to Cain than met the eye more than I did. The first two alleged settlements didn’t necessarily mean much. Sharon Bialek was the typical Allred foil — a worldly woman who has made big honking mistakes and should have known better, but who wants to blame everybody but herself. When Karen Kraushaar decided she didn’t want anyone asking why she asked for a JFK School of Business scholarship as settlement for a separate harassment claim, the whole distraction was dissolving into thin air.
Then, came the bombshell. No, not Ginger White; Cain’s brain freeze when it came to Libya. His sneer about not needing to know the king of “Bekibekistanstan” was troubling, but not fatal; his inability to articulate what his problem with Obama’s Libya policy was.
Ginger was icing on the cake, especially when he asserted that even though he gave her money, and they had a longtime “friendship” his wife was in the dark about the entire time, there was no sex. That crossed over into Clinton territory. The whole thing became a circus when Cain would announce that he was going to talk to his wife. What kinda BS is that, when the guy is treating a meeting with his spouse as if it’s an international summit?
I’m done with Cain. Maybe he and Mark Sanford could open up a pizza chain in Argentina.

Also, color me MEGA disappointed in Glenn Beck over this brain fart. As reported at Legal Insurrection:
Beck played the race card not only on Newt, but on me, and on you. How dare he say that my choice of Newt over Obama is a racial decision. Beck calls Newt a “progressive,” but Beck is a race card player, and unlike his accusations that Newt is a progressive, the title fits.
Right Scoop, which does not support Newt, reacts as I do:
I know Newt has his problems which is why he isn’t my primary candidate. And if you don’t support him in the primaries I totally understand. But to say he’s exactly like Obama, and on top of that, to say that a Tea Party member is racist for supporting Newt over Obama, that is absolutely absurd and in my opinion enough for me to discontinue watching Beck in any format, forever.
Nancy Pelosi says she wants to disclose information about Newt Gingrich from when she was on the ethics committee.
Newt’s reply:
First of all I’d like to thank Speaker Pelosi for what I regard as an early Christmas gift. If she’s suggesting she’s gonna use material she developed while she was on the ethics committee, that is a fundamental violation of the rules of the House and I would hope members would immediately file charges against her the second she does it.
I posted yesterday the spot on article by Byron York, The insider-outsider divide over Newt Gingrich, which delves into the great divide between Washington Republican political players (politicians and media) who have their noses out of joint over Newt because he was mean to them in the 1990s, and the general Republican electorate which remembers the glory days of the takeover of the House, the Contract with America, balanced budgets, and welfare reform.
There is a disbelief how a Tea Party-motivated electorate could support an “insider” like Newt, particularly an insider who did not make many friends in the Republican party and media.
I think the question answers itself. Newt is not seen as beholden to anyone, and that is what makes his insider status non-toxic, and a plus. He’s the insider who is on the outs with the insiders.

The following was in an e-mail from the Richmond Tea Party – an update on their request that the City of Richmond refund permit fees after allowing Occupy Richmond to gather without proper permits
Richmond Tea Party Takes on City Hall (UPDATE) – 11/23/2011
City of Richmond Responds to Our Refund Request
A few weeks ago, I reported on how the Richmond Tea Party invoiced the City of Richmond for a refund of the expenses incurred from our three Tax Day Rallies in Kanawha Plaza, the same place where Occupy Richmond illegally camped for two weeks without paying a single fee to the City. We figured that in spirit of equal application of the law, a refund from Mayor Dwight Jones was in order. Shortly thereafter, we received a brief letter that promised a timely response to our request. We have since received that response.
Before I get to that, though, let me bring you up to speed on the full story.
Last week, we learned that in addition to the City of Richmond’s open favoring of Occupy Richmond, the City went so far as to even pay some of their bills, including providing toilets and cleanup. (See the invoices here.) The Richmond Tea Party, of course, paid for these same services ourselves during our three events. It should be noted, though, that Occupy Richmond intended to provide for these services as well, but the Mayor went out of his way to pick up the tab at taxpayer expense.
I don’t suppose I’d be fortunate enough to get my own meeting and the same offer. I have done a lot of anti-poverty work in Richmond myself, and I would love to share my experiences with the commission to help craft a wise policy of approaching a serious problem. But considering the Mayor’s response to our refund request, I call it a safe bet that I will receive no such offer.
What was his response, you wonder?
A tax audit, of course!
Nice, eh? Not to worry, though. We are the Tea Party and, therefore, have followed every applicable tax law to this point, including filing all the proper forms. We will file them again, though, to satisfy the audit requirements.
But that won’t be the last the City of Richmond hears from the Richmond Tea Party and the American people.
The City is now openly rewarding and financing lawlessness, while punishing and charging the law-abiding. These actions represent the kind of bullying and abuse of power the American people have come to expect from those in office and are now dedicated to stopping. We stand united in holding accountable every last corrupt politician, no matter which office they hold or at which level they serve.
More will be coming out about this story in the coming days and weeks, but for now, I wanted to give you the quick update and let you know that we, like you, are done taking it from arrogant politicians. The City of Richmond gave us their response – now we have one for them.
Stay tuned.
We need your help to continue fighting for equal treatment under the law!
