HILARIOUS: CLICK https://twitter.com/Notdonejr/status/1681310475487961090 [:24] to see what Not The Bee describes as “the most savage cameraman of all time.” LOL

HOLLYWEIRD: Barry Diller, a former Paramount Pictures CEO, warns that failing to resolve the dual strikes of the writers’ and screen actors guilds in Hollywood could “potentially produce an absolute collapse of an entire industry.” Sounds good to me!

HUNTER: The Secret Service has reportedly destroyed the bag containing cocaine they found in the White House and thus any DNA or fingerprint evidence it might have held to identify who might have left it there. Since when is it the Secret Service’s job to lie to protect the president and his family from the consequences of their own actions?

In other news, the FBI is still using millions of our dollars to hunt down Americans who were at the Capitol on January 6 … where no one died except protesters killed by police. Unbelievably, some people are still languishing in prison, denied bail and a speedy trial … for the crime of trespassing and destroying a small amount of property.

PENNSYLVANIA: A Norfolk Southern freight train derailed yesterday, forcing the evacuation of Whitemarsh Township, about 30-minutes north of Philadelphia. Hazmat teams were seen at the site, although it isn’t clear whether any substances were leaking from the cars.

PETA: CLICK https://twitter.com/EnronChairman/status/1681116793971023873 [:17] for my response.

RUSSIA: In its latest move to crack down on LGBTQ rights, the government has banned any and all medical interventions aimed at changing the sex of a person, prohibited people from changing their sex on official documents or public records, banned gays from becoming foster or adoptive parents, and authorized dissolving marriages involving people who previously transitioned.

SOUND OF FREEDOM: The film is based upon the true story of former government agent Tim Ballard who quit his job to rescue a little girl from sex traffickers in the Colombian jungle. In the process, Tim ended up saving 123 people, 55 of whom were children, from one mission alone.

CLICK https://www.youtube.com/shorts/TiRSsOwQ2yw to hear Jim Caviezel talk about sex islands like the one Jeffrey Epstein owned.

Lefties have been rushing to condemn and slander the film. One of them, Noah Berlatsky, is an apologist for so-called Minor Attracted Persons. What a shock. Not.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE: This is cool – CLICK https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=erw3qPgV4zs [24:29] and turn the sound OFF. Then, CLICK https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDjLenVggbE [23:04] and turn your speakers up all the way (it’s hard to hear). Now, switch the video back to the first one and watch the filthiest rug you’ve ever seen turn into one of the most beautiful while listening to Fr. Ripperger talk about sin and grace.

UPDATE: Mama Buzz found my directions clear as mud. So here’s another try … these two videos are about the same length, so you can run them simultaneously, listening to Fr. Ripperger (who just stands at a lectern) while watching the muted rug cleaning. Doing this really impacted me with some amazing Holy Spirit insights.

CULTURE OF DEATH: The slippery slope is real. In 2016, the Canadian health care system started offering Medical Assistance In Dying (MAID, aka, assisted suicide) just for incurable, terminally ill adults.

In 2022, they expanded it to those with non-terminal illnesses, diseases, or disabilities “in an advanced state of decline that cannot be reversed” and because of which the patient is experiencing “unbearable physical or mental suffering … that cannot be relieved.”

Technicalities aside, we have heard from people who wanted, but were denied help to live, then were told, “Oh, but wait! We can help you die! All you have to do is ask!” One of these was a paraplegic veteran who just wanted a stair elevator installed in her home that would accommodate her wheelchair.

Keep in mind that government bean counters control all of the health care in Canada and that killing people is much cheaper than caring for them. Private health care is illegal in Canada, meaning, of course, that those who can afford to come here. In 2016, more than 63,000 Canadians opted to pay for U.S. surgical procedures they either couldn’t get in Canada or that had unacceptably long wait times.

Canada’s Justice Minister, David Lametti, says he is proud of this “slow and careful” expansion of the MAID program, which is currently responsible for about 3% of all deaths in Canada. Proponents are now pushing to expand MAID to minors and the mentally ill, which they now openly acknowledge would be used on expensive and marginalized citizens the government refuses to help.

COVID-19: Lefties are freaking out about a hamburger franchise banning employees from wearing masks unless they have a doctor’s note certifying that they need one. One of them tweeted something so clueless that I really had to wonder if it wasn’t meant as satire. But no, the guy’s bio makes it clear that he is perfectly serious. ::smh::

The situation at In-N-Out Burger (masks banned for employees) is a stark warning of what is to come. First, masks are banned for employees of businesses. Next, masks are banned for customers. Finally, masks are banned everywhere, in every setting. This must not be accepted.”

Keep in mind … this is the kind of guy who 100% supported shutdown, mask, and vaxxx mandates AND who denies there is any such thing as a slippery slope.

DISNEY: The new live-action version of Snow White features a Hispanic actress with tan (not white as snow) skin and brown (not black as ebony) hair. But hey, at least she’s a she! The seven dwarfs have also progressively morphed into one dwarf and a band of spunky magical companions of all sizes, races and genders. The one actual Little Person who got a role is Peter Dinklage who complained about Disney’s original plan to cast seven as unprogressive stereotyping … thereby denying his fellow LP actors a shot at six feature film roles.

Commenters noted that it looked like “a bad version of the lord of the rings” or “a Monty Python remake.” Others said it was “cultural appropriation” and suggested they do remakes of “Pocahontas” and “Mulan” using Caucasian actors. A Caucasian lady said, “I always related to her, now you’re taking that away from me! I’m offended!” In summary: “Disney is crapping all over western culture. The same western culture that is the reason they can exist in the first place.” Bingo.

MICHIGAN: Last week, the all-Muslim city council of Hamtramck voted to ban the display of the LGBT Pride flag on city property. Two officials on Hamtramck’s Human Relations Commission promptly flew the thing on city property. So the city council unanimously voted them out of their jobs.

A gay commenter said, “The pride flag was created by Gilbert Baker, a Drag Queen & open advocate for pedophilia (Member of NAMBLA: pedo organization) who purposely chose the rainbow to lure children as it was a classic children’s symbol. That flamboyant nonsense has never represented me.

TUCKER: CLICK https://twitter.com/William_E_Wolfe/status/1680634360733528066 [3:48] to hear him talk about how he has been reading the Bible for the first time ever. I remember some years ago listening to him and thinking, “He really needs to read the Bible.” I’m so glad to see he’s waking up to the spiritual war driving the stuff he reports on.

GRAMMY NOTES: CLICK https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVDqRyMf_4g [24:17] to watch a fun episode of Mike Rowe’s new show. The place he visits is amazing! My favorite is the teeter totter labyrinth game, probably because it combines two things I enjoyed in my childhood. 🙂

ALASKA: Just one day after a media backlash, the Alaska Department of Corrections revoked its ban on altar wine.

EVs: The owner of a Rivian R1T electric pickup truck got into a minor fender bender at a stoplight earlier this year. The other driver’s insurance offered him $1,600 for repairs that ended up costing $42,000, about half the sticker price of the vehicle when new.

INDIANA: Two courts have now ruled in favor of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis for firing a Catholic school teacher who entered into a same sex union. Her job contract specified that she had an obligation “to uphold Church teaching in both word and deed.”

IOWA: Gov. Reynolds has signed a “heartbeat bill” into law which bans abortions after a fetal heartbeat can be detected, or after six weeks. Iowa is now the 13th state to have a heartbeat law on the books.

J6: CLICK https://rumble.com/v2ypb62-tucker-drops-jan-6-bombshell-that-never-made-it-to-air.html [:57] to hear Tucker talk about when he learned the January 6 “mob” was packed with law enforcement agents.

In other news, attorneys for Jan. 6 prisoner Edward Jacob (Jake) Lang filed a document with the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) challenging the government’s obstruction of Congress charge—one of the most common felony charges used against Jan. 6 defendants—which carries a 20-year prison sentence.

MEDIA: Ditto Trump walking carefully down a slippery metal ramp in new leather shoes vs. Biden stumbling on stairs, tripping over stuff, startling at shadows, wandering off in the wrong direction, etc. etc. etc.

GRAMMY NOTES: So true. However, it was not as painful as having my flip-flopped foot slip off the front and get turned under the pedal, top-to-macadam and toes pointing backwards while I was moving.

ALASKA: The Alaska Department of Corrections has instituted a new policy that is a direct assault on Catholic prisoners. The new policy states, “No altar wine or other alcoholic beverages will be used by anyone who is involved with any activity. The use of a non-alcoholic substitute (juice) for altar wine may be considered.”

Catholics may receive just the consecrated bread, but the celebrant (priest) is required to consecrate and consume both bread and wine. Non-alcoholic wine is not permitted. According to this new policy, priests cannot celebrate a valid Mass in any Alaska prison.

CATHOLIC: “During an exorcism,” the famous exorcist, Father Gabriele Amorth, said, “Satan told me, through the possessed person, ‘Every Hail Mary of the Rosary is a blow to the head for me; if Christians knew the power of the Rosary, it would be the end of me!‘”

CHICAGO: Loyola University, which is run by Jesuits who claim to be affiliated with the Catholic Church, offers abortion services in its health insurance and has launched a “transgender health” class to the medical school curriculum. Pope Francis has condemned the trans movement as “one of the most dangerous ideological colonizations … because it blurs differences and the value of men and women.

Ad majorem Dei gloriam (aka, AMDG) is the Latin motto of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits). It means “For the greater glory of God.” The image of two wolves eating at a cauldron is from the heraldic shield of the family of St. Ignatius of Loyola who founded the Jesuit order. It symbolizes generosity.

DETRANS: CLICK https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FD_brjpAk2c [10:48] for Soren’s trans and detrans story. Soren is a vocal advocate against the enabling she sees happening inside the medical industry and believes that detransitioners could be the leaders of the next MeToo-style movement.

FDA: Food and Drug Administration officials says a one-a-day contraceptive pill will become available without prescription in early 2024. Unlike most oral contraceptives, which contain a combination of estrogen and progestin, the “Opill” contains only progestin. Progestin is known to increase risks of diseases such as breast cancer, HPV, cervical cancer, hypertension and seizures – all diseases which clinicians typically screen for in patients desiring birth control pills. Side effects include depression, mood disorders, bleeding, headaches, dizziness, nausea, and cramping as potential side effects.

VAXXX: A recent study examined all autopsy and necropsy reports published in peer-reviewed literature; a panel of three expert physicians independently reviewed each case and determined 74% of the deaths were “directly due to or significantly contributed to by COVID-19 vaccination.”

Dr. Peter McCullough, a practicing internist, cardiologist, and epidemiologist, said, “The striking cases were people who were perfectly healthy and had no other medical problems. The only new thing in their life was the vaccine, and they died with an obvious syndrome like a blood clot or heart damage—myocarditis.”

The study was published on The Lancet’s preprint SSRN on July 5; it was deleted on July 6. The authors were not given any explanation.

BIG BROTHER: A report by the House Judiciary Committee and the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government says the FBI and the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) pressured Facebook, Instagram, Google, and YouTube to “censor Americans engaging in constitutionally protected speech online.

At the time that the requests were made, the Ukrainian agency had been infiltrated with Russian collaborators and double agents, something which, along with the First Amendment, the FBI didn’t bother to consider when it complied with the request.

“Incredibly, on this list was the account @usaporusski, which is the official, verified, Russian-language account of the U.S. State Department. Neither the FBI nor the [SSU] provides an explanation as to how the U.S. State Department account was ‘involved in disinformation,'” the committee’s report explained.

The committee concluded, “Based on open-source information, it appears that the FBI’s cooperation with the [SSU] remains ongoing.

CATHOLIC VOTE: In February of this year, a leaked memo revealed that the FBI has been developing sources within Catholic churches to spy on American Catholics, linking them to “white supremacist” groups. In response, CatholicVote FOIA’d the records. After three months of ignoring the request, emails, letters, and the FOIA response deadline required by law, the FBI finally responded with a big fat no. A judge has now scheduled a briefing conference for July 24.

CHICAGO: At least eight tornadoes touched down in four counties in northeastern Illinois. Thousands are left without power; O’Hare and Midway airports are closed. After the chaos, God sent one of His rainbows … not the “we’re here, we’re queer” kind, but the “I will never leave your or forsake you” kind.

DETRANS: Milo starred in MTV’s Transformation documentary series, which followed teens as they transitioned. After years on testosterone and a double mastectomy, she now says she believes she is autistic and should have been diagnosed and helped, not encouraged to mutilate and sterilize herself. CLICK https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BU-B_B_V9Is [27:42] to hear her talk about all of this … unless you’re already sad and don’t need any more downers for today.

JEHU: King Jehu was obedient to God; he overthrew the wicked kings Ahaziah of Judah and Ahab of Israel and wiped out all those who worshiped Baal. Then, “they went into the inner shrine of the temple of Baal, and took out the pillars of the temple of Baal. They burned the shrine, tore down the pillar of Baal, tore down the temple of Baal, and turned it into a latrine, as it remains today.” – 2 Kings 10:25-27

FAUXTUS: Even when Joe Biden is in Washington, he works about 30 hours per week, with his staff frequently calling a lid before noon. On the rare occasions when he does emerge, he frequently seems a bit addled, as if he’s just gotten up from a nap. As Jim Caviezel said recently, “You don’t actually believe that Joe Biden is the president, do you?” No, sir. I do not.

FBI: During questioning by the House Judiciary Committee, FBI Director Wray admitted that Attorney General Garland had “no compelling nationwide law enforcement justification” for sending the FBI a memo telling them to surveil parents who attended school board meetings. However, he refused to apologize for acting on that memo saying, “I think the FBI conducted itself the way it should here.”

SODOM & GOMORRAH: CLICK https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzZH1HfY5uk [20:09] – Dr. Steven Collins believes he has unearthed the biblical cities of Sodom and Gomorrah in Jordan. “The site is reportedly scattered with Bronze-age remains that appear to have been melted in a ‘flash heat’ situation, matching the Biblical account of how Sodom burned to the ground.”

BIRTH DEARTH: The ZPGers are getting their wish. Only five states have shown an increase in the number of kids under 5 and none of them hit the replacement rate of 2.1 births per woman.

CUTIES: From Kevin Sorbo – “The media praised Cuties but criticizes The Sound of Freedom. That should tell you everything you need to know.” According to Rotten Tomatoes, 87% of movie critics gave Cuties a positive review vs. 79% who gave Sound of Freedom a negative review.

GEORGIA: State Rep. Meisha Mainor announced that she is leaving the Democrat Party in disgust.

When I decided to stand up on behalf of disadvantaged children in support of school choice, my Democrat colleagues didn’t stand by me. They crucified me. When I decided to stand up in support of safe communities and refused to support efforts to defund the police, they didn’t back me. They abandoned me.

“For far too long, the Democrat Party has gotten away with using and abusing the black community,” she added. “For decades, the Democrat Party has received the support of more than 90% of the black community. And what do we have to show for it? I represent a solidly blue district in the city of Atlanta. This isn’t a political decision for me. It’s a moral one.

GET WOKE, GO BROKE: Wells Fargo downgraded Fox News shares from $35 to $31, citing drops in viewership. “Fox News was 52% of cable news prime-time viewership for 2020-22, 51% in Jan’23, and that has slid to a low of 38% in June’23 post-TC. FN’s share of conservative news viewers has fallen from 94% to 84%.” In the meantime, Newsmax has seen its key prime-time audience grow 126% as Fox’s audience fell 21%.

CLIMATE PHONY: https://twitter.com/DVATW/status/1678693093703385090 [:25] to see Spain’s climate minister get out of a limo so she could bicycle the last hundred yards to a climate conference. Smile for the cameras! BTW, before boarding her private limo, she had flown to the destination in a private jet, the latter being a perq she has enjoyed 16 times so far this year.

DISNEY: Move over, Bud Light. Ongoing conservative backlash to Disney’s woke agenda is hitting the bottom line. They have had streaming losses, their stock was recently downgraded, and the July 4th long weekend crowd at Walt Disney World was described by a tracking data analyst as “shockingly” thin.

EVs: In January, 26% of new vehicle shoppers said they were “very likely” to buy an EV, while 17.8% said they were “very unlikely” to do so. Just two months later, the “very likely” crowd was still at 26%, while the “very unlikely” shoppers had jumped to 21%. These numbers are reflected in the unusually high inventory that dealers have gotten stuck with on their lots. The number of unsold EVs during the second quarter of this year was 342% higher than in the second quarter of last year.

FAUXTUS: CLICK https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTL7blu88is [3:12] to see video clips of our shaky, senile puppet of a president during his visit with King Charles. FRANCE: CLICK https://twitter.com/CatholicArena/status/1677369233355726859 [:24] to see the steeple of Église Notre-Dame de Drosnay collapse, as the 16th-century Catholic Church in Drosnay, France, is fully engulfed in flames. The historic church was burnt to the ground on July 8, the latest in a long series of assaults on Catholic churches in France.

GENDER ROLES: Matt Walsh writes, “Despite what you might hear from our “enlightened” modern culture, gender roles exist. Men and women are different. It’s pretty easy to criticize a cartoon version of the past, but it’s hard to come up with answers for the present. These modern fools who tear down everything that smells of “tradition,” and every idea that predates 1960, don’t have any answers. All they have are buzzwords, slogans, and feelings, and they can’t explain or define any of them.

I don’t idolize the past, but I’m not arrogant enough to outright dismiss the lessons of our grandparents, or to broadly veto the “democracy of the dead,” as Chesterton would say. I might be stubborn, but I’m pragmatic enough to look at the divorces, the abortions, the broken families, and shattered lives, and think maybe — just maybe — we aren’t quite as enlightened as we think.”

CLICK https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4Aq7WGIhzA [1:43:13] to hear Fr. Ripperger give an in depth talk called “Demonology Function & Psychology.” Fr. Ripperger has a double Bachelor’s degree (philosophy, theology), two Master’s degrees (philosophy, theology), and a doctorate (philosophy). He has been a full-time exorcist since 2012. I am posting this here because a lot of his talk is about gender roles, those that are properly ordained and those the world and the devil are pushing on us to our eternal destruction.

KANSAS: For the past four years, about 400 trannies have changed the sex on their Kansas drivers’ licenses from their biological sex to their gender identity. District Judge Teresa Watson just ruled said that this practice is going to stop like right now. Watson said it was a public safety issue, because licenses are used by law enforcement to identify criminal suspects, crime victims, wanted persons, missing persons and others.

PERFECTION: I am listening to a wonderful talk called “Voices in Virtue Lectures: Fr. Chad Ripperger — Demonology Function & Psychology.” It’s posted @ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4Aq7WGIhzA if you’re interested. I just wanted to share the section from 1:00:00 to 1:04:00 where he explains the quotation I posted above.

SCOTUS: Justice Sonia “Wise Latina” Sotomayor has been making the most of her position on the nation’s highest court. With her lifetime, largely untouchable position, she gets a base salary ($268,300 in 2021), plus a staff to help her research cases and write decisions.

Supremes are legally limited to earning roughly $30,000 per year for outside teaching. Sotomayor bypasses this by booking herself out as a speaker, not a teacher, using her taxpayer-funded court staff to organizing bookings.

There is no limit on how much a supreme can make in book royalties. Since she joined the court, Sotomayor has raked in more than $3.7 million, helped along by the fact that, when they book a speaking engagement for her, staffers “suggest” to the venues how many of Sotomayor’s books they should buy for the event.

One example from the AP article: “In 2019, as Sotomayor traveled the country to promote her new children’s book, Just Ask!, library and community college officials in Portland, Oregon, jumped at the chance to host an event. They put in long hours and accommodated the shifting requests of Sotomayor’s court staff. Then, as the public cost of hosting the event soared almost tenfold, a Sotomayor aide emailed with a different, urgent concern: She said the organizers did not buy enough copies of the justice’s book, which attendees had to purchase or have on hand in order to meet Sotomayor after her talk.

Wait, wut? If you wanted to stay after and say howdy to her, you had to have a copy of her book in your hand before you could get in line? Wow.

EXCESS DEATHS: Sorry, but YouTubes are not embedding at this time. [16:10] – Dr. John Campbell looks at a new report revealing that, in England, nearly 100,000 more people with cardiovascular disease than expected have died since the start of the pandemic. One important factor is how terrible the British government-run health care system is. The other important factor the report does not discuss is what Campbell bypasses YouTube’s ‘rona censors as “pharmacological interventions.”

SOUND of FREEDOM: [3:43] – MILLIONS of kids being sex trafficked every year. Jim Caviezel’s new movie, Sound of Freedom, tells the incredible true story of a former government agent turned vigilante who embarks on a dangerous mission to rescue as many of them as he can. It’s currently #1 at the box office, outperforming Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

I’d say “unbelievably” about this next bit, but hey, it’s 2023, so we should not be at all surprised that the Guardian wrote a really snotty review that attributed the movie’s success to “astroturfed boosterism among the far-right fringe.” Never mind that the story Caviezel tells is true. No need to go see the flick for yourself! The alleged sex trafficking of millions of children is just a Qanon Conspiracy Theory! Really!

TENNESSEE: Tennessee’s new law shielding minors from cross-sex medical intervention is under assault by Wrong litigants. In a short-term victory, a justice for the U.S. 6th Court of Appeals has ruled that the state may uphold the law while the case is in the courts. As I understand it, these kinds of injunctions tend to reflect the judge’s feelings about the strength of the case. E.g., if the judge had decided that the litigants had a strong enough case that they would likely win, then he would likely have told Tennessee they could not uphold it while the case is proceeding.

VAXXX: A recent report showed that the ‘rona jab can trigger Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS). SJS is the less severe end of a disease spectrum; at the severe end, it’s called Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis (NET). I found photos of people suffering from this disease; I’d like to unsee them, hence the simple graphic of healthy skin. You’re welcome.

This potentially fatal skin disorder is extremely rare. Prior to 2022, researchers with an Australian burn unit saw two to four cases of SJS/NET per year; in the first six months of 2022 alone, the same burn center had 14 cases. Five of them had had COVID-19 one month before the onset, three had received a ‘rona jab one month prior. None of them were unvaccinated.

According to the U.S. Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS), 198 cases of SJS/TEN following COVID-19 vaccination were reported between Dec. 14, 2019, and June 23, 2023. Historically, VAERS has been shown to report fewer than 1 percent of actual vaccine adverse events, which means other cases of SJS/TEN may have occurred but were unreported.

GRAMMY NOTES: We’re trying to cut back on sugar so, while we love our flavored yogurts, they all have quite a lot of sugar in them. And the plain ones are very often sold out. Enter my new yogurt making machine (applause). My first batch came out way too thin, so I dumped it into my trusty crock pot with a can of condensed mushroom soup and got a super easy cream soup base that has a bit of a tang to it. I’ve added a mess of veggies and some shredded BBQ chicken (Cornell style, not that Texas red stuff). I’m drooling!

The First Amendment

Wrongs don’t agree with our founding fathers that our rights are endowed to us by God. They think they are endowed by government, and that what the government hath given, the government can taketh away.

Ever since SCOTUS legalized same-sex “marriage” throughout the United States, Wrong activists have been targeting Christian wedding vendors – e.g., bakers, photographers, invitation designers, etc. It’s never about them being denied the right to get these services, but about finding and suing them for suggesting they shop elsewhere.

Back in 2018, the court sided with Jack Phillips in Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission that a state human rights commission had violated the baker’s First Amendment right to free exercise of religion by fining him for refusing to make cakes for same-sex weddings. Masterpiece Cakeshop is in a large city with many, many other bakers.

Colorado is after him again, this time for refusing to make a cake to celebrate a trannie, a lawyer who made very, very sure that Phillips knew the blue and pink cake was for her trans birthday, then trotted off to file a lawsuit. S/he probably had the paperwork all drawn up before going to the cake shop. Last week, the Colorado Supreme Court ruled against Masterpiece Cakeshop, just as they did eight years ago. The Alliance Defending Freedom says they will appeal, which I think means they will ask SCOTUS if they will either hear the case or allow the ruling against Phillips to stand.

On June 30, SCOTUS ruled (6-3) in two related cases against Wrong efforts to destroy the religious freedom of Christian artisans. In the first case, the justices ruled again against Colorado for punishing Lorie Smith, an artist and graphic designer, for refusing to create websites for same-sex weddings. Smith says her case is about freedom of speech for all artists.

I want the LGBT graphic designer to be free to create consistent with her beliefs, and the Democrat speechwriter and the atheist photographer. A win in my case is truly a win for all Americans. The New York Times editorial board wrote, “The Supreme Court Has Opened the Door to Discrimination.” But I’m sure it’s just a po-TAY-to, po-TAH-to thing, right?

Hours later, the supremes ruled in favor of Sweet Cakes by Melissa in its battle with Oregon state over their refusal to make same-sex wedding cakes. Under a public accommodations law, the business was fined $135,000 and the couple forbidden to discuss their case or their religious beliefs in public. The financial penalty and an internet-based boycott campaign forced their bakery out of business. First Liberty Institute, a Plano, Texas-based nonprofit legal organization that defends religious liberty, organized the couple’s legal representation.

  • In 2016, the Court of Appeals of Oregon upheld the fine, but removed the gag order. (Ya think? Telling Americans, “You can’t talk about your faith.” Yowza!)
  • In 2019, the case got to SCOTUS, which remanded it back to the state in light of the Masterpiece Cakeshop ruling.
  • In 2022, the Oregon Court of Appeals overturned the $135,000 fine, but held that the couple had still violated state law and remanded the case back to the commissioner.
  • In July 2022, the commissioner fined the business $30,000, without holding a new hearing.
  • On June 30, 2023, the Supreme Court vacated the judgment of the Court of Appeals of Oregon, remanding the case to that court in light of its own decision earlier that day in 303 Creative LLC v. Elenis.
