The 2018 World Scrabble Championship was held last month in London. The champion, 51-year old Nigel Richards, played “groutier” (meaning “sulky”) for the winning 68 points. This was Mr. Richards’s fourth world title in English Scrabble; he also took the French Scrabble title this year for the second time, even though he doesn’t speak French.
If Mr. Richards’s dominance of competitive Scrabble is clear, there is a less noticed but more significant pattern in the game: Since the World Scrabble Championship began in 1991, all winners have been male. The North American Scrabble Championship has had one female winner (in 1987) since its founding in 1978. All eight finalists in this year’s French World Scrabble Championships were men.

This ensures good placement for this movie on Video On Demand (Jan 22nd), in stores (Feb 5th) and Netflix (May 19th). Most importantly, hearts and minds have been changed. The reports from audiences were consistently positive, there was a remarkable similarity with people staying in their seats right to the end of the credits in total silence listening to John Ondrasik’s haunting Song for the Innocents. FLORIDA RESIGNING: Widely criticized Broward County Supervisor of Election Brenda Snipes has submitted her resignation, ending a 15-year tenure full of botched elections, legal disputes and blistering criticism. She admitted a few things needed to be “tweaked.” Uhhh, yeah. They lost 2,000 ballots during machine recount, mixed invalid ballots with valid ones, missed a critical deadline, had to be forced by a judge to turn over public records, and failed to report results on election night in a timely manner. “Tweaks.” Snipes said, “I am ready to pass the torch.” One hopes (but does not count on) Florida having someone who is actually honest and competent ready to take that torch.
FLORIDA WHINING: In his concession speech, soon-to-be-former Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL) claimed that one of the reasons why he lost was “voter suppression.” Fact check, Bill. The fact that YOUR voters just didn’t turn out is not the same thing as voters being suppressed. Florida has a month of voting by mail plus 7 days of in-person early voting and 13 days in big counties that have the bluest population. Also, any voters who are turned away can get a provisional ballot and have it count. Who exactly was “suppressed” by that? Twitchy points out that one ACTUAL thing that cost Nelson the election was his dismal support among Latino voters, which Scott lost by only 9% compared to 40% nationally. Scott had a Spanish-language website and ads; Nelson had neither.
GEORGIA JOURNO-BLATHER: Buzzfeed’s take on Abrams’ loss … “Stacey Abrams tried. But ultimately she could not, for now, preserve her supporters’ idea of democracy in Georgia.” Oh. Okay. I guess. Not. This is like the feudal society of the Middle Ages, where the nobility was rich, the poor were serfs, and there was little to no middle class. Around 90 percent of the people worked the land as peasants; most were dead before they reached 30 years old. The nobility held absolute power over their peasants, who had no rights or protections under the law.

GIVE A MOUSE A COOKIE:Yet another caravan has formed, the fourth caravan to head towards the U.S.-Mexico border since the first group from Honduras left on Oct. 13. This one started in Honduras. They were guarded by police as they made their way to buses set for Guatemala and have already created social media and WhatsApp accounts, hoping to capitalize on the attention given to the other caravans. If Trump doesn’t stop this, they’ll just keep coming and coming and coming.
TIJUANA CAMP AT BORDER: Six thousand Central American migrants have encamped in Tijuana, Mexico, waiting to enter the United States, legally or illegally. A reporter asked one of the migrants how the living conditions were in the camp. The woman complained about the food she had been given in the camp, calling it food for “pigs” and saying she would “die of hunger” if she did not eat it. Oh. You voluntarily violated Mexico’s laws, but they are putting you up and feeding you anyway while you wait in hopes of invading the so-generous and so-rich United States … but you’re pissed about refried beans? I vote we send HER back home asap.

FLORIDA:After nearly two weeks of recounts and lawsuits, it is over in Florida. U.S. District Judge Mark Walker upheld Florida law that “forbids county election offices from counting vote-by-mail ballots received after 7 p.m. Election Day.” IOW, Gov. Rick Scott has officially defeated incumbent Democrat Bill Nelson to win the Sunshine State’s U.S. Senate seat and ensure that Florida will now have two Republican senators and a GOP governor.
WHITE WOMEN:“I wonder if liberals have stopped to think whether there might be other reasons that white women, especially married white women with kids, have resoundingly rejected their bullying and voted Republican. … The Democrat Party and the liberal media continue to demonize white women who don’t toe the liberal line with spiteful and unfair rhetoric. The questions date back to 2016, when Clinton was required to submit answers to Judicial Watch’s multiple inquiries under oath. Broward Election Boss Says Racism May Be Behind Clamor Against Her
Embattled Broward County Election Supervisor Brenda Snipes claimed Saturday that racism is “probably” behind the widespread backlash against her.
Snipes, who has come under heavy criticism over her handling of the Florida recount after the contentious midterm elections earlier this month, told The Guardian that she believes protesters camped outside the Broward recount center could be there out of hatred of her skin color.
Though she declined to elaborate during her brief interview, when asked if race played a factor, she answered: “Probably. Probably.”

Senate Republicans Are Blocking Trump Appointments
President Trump has hundreds of unfilled presidentially-appointed positions because Democrats have stalled the nominations process out as much as their diminished power in the post-nuclear Senate has allowed.
But it is the Republican majority that has placed a total blockade on the usual safety valve for temporary appointments – the recess appointment power – by refusing to go on recess for the last two years. And with Democrats set to take the House and be in position to deny the Senate consent to recess starting January 3, there is a real possibility that President Trump will go an entire presidential term without being able to make recess appointments.

Supreme Court To Hear Case Related To Census Citizenship Question
In a nutshell, democrats need the millions of illegal parasites that have stolen this country to be included in the census to swell the representation in hotbeds of amnesty and create more permanent democrat political pawns.
A key issue in the case is whether challengers can depose Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, who has jurisdiction over the census.
The court last month temporarily blocked Ross from having to face a deposition on the issue, which was seen as a partial win for the Trump administration.
Challengers in the case include a coalition of states and the American Civil Liberties Union. They want to press Ross on his rationale for adding the question, as they believe it was included to reduce the representation of immigrant populations.

A Democrat from California who trailed by just over 6,200 votes after election night tallying has now overtaken Rep. Mimi Walters (R-Calif.), and will win yet another Congressional seat.
“On Thursday, the Associated Press projected that Democrat Katie Porter has defeated two-term GOP. Rep. Mimi Walters in the race to represent the county’s inland 45th Congressional District,” according to The Orange County Register.
Officially, Porter is now winning the race by 6,203 votes after trailing by 6,233 when votes were originally counted. Porter reportedly won 58 percent of votes that have been counted since the night of the election.
