    On Sarah and the city – when I saw that line of people looking for jobs on Drudge the other day, I thought, “Sarah, go there, go mingle with those people looking for jobs” I hope she does indeed do what Obama is too chicken to do.

    Saw a picture on Drudge of the Bamster and Mooch riding together in the car–he’s glum and she’s glummer…AND has her ears plugged with earphones. Good grief! If they’re going to spend all this tax payer money to have a fun vacation, couldn’t they at LEAST have a good time?

    BOB, Can you believe that those lemonade sellers were arrested on the Capitol Grounds? I always stop for a lemonade stand, too, and goodness knows my children have made a small fortune because our house is the greatest site ever for a lemonade stand. We are directly across the street from the University and whenever there is a big event there the traffic gets stopped by off-duty police officers right in front of us while they direct traffic at the intersection in front of our next-door neighbors’ house. Honestly, they made many hundreds of dollars every year, and if they would put it into their savings account at the bank, I would match it.

    They also sold cookies, and sandwich bags full of popcorn, baseball cards, rocks that they painted in neon colors, drawings, shells, you name it. One time they hauled the hose around and washed cars, but I put a stop to that because they started inviting their customers to come inside and visit with me while their cars were being washed. Seriously, it was “go inside and our mother will fix you a drink.”

    When my son graduated from college, and my daughter had just finished her freshman year, the two of them took off to Europe for 7 weeks together with their lemonade money, and got to visit 8 countries. Of course, their father and I have never been to Europe! I have no fear that they will ever starve, and I know it is in large part due to their lemonade stand experiences.

      What a great story — I love it when kids show the entrepreneurial spirit! Since our house is on a cul-de-sac it’s no good for lemonade stands (not enough traffic), so my kids did things like babysitting, yard work, dog-walking, cat-sitting, craft-selling, etc. That’s so neat that your kids went to Europe with their earnings! They should give motivational speeches to groups of youngsters, and try to instill a little of that capitalist vision in them.

      I wish they would reform the whole darn tax code, and simplify it. If they really would start the “lock box” I wouldn’t mind a bit, but I don’t trust any of them these days.
