I just finished listening to the Newt at NH Tea Party townhall video. I really, really liked what he had to say and how he said it on every count. And that surprises me.

You know…that’s what makes me sick about all of this. The Romney camp keeps complaining about how Newt has gone negative and is such a bad person, but it was his negative tactics in Iowa that started the whole thing. The only difference between the two is that Newt said he was going to keep things positive. Well, that’s a little hard to do when your opponent comes out negative against you and it impacts the polls. I’m sure in the end he’ll blame it all on some PAC, just like he always does.
Personally, I think there should be some level of negativity (if that’s what you want to call it) in regards to challenging someone’s record and things they’ve said and done in the past (politically!). In fact, I thought the debate on Thursday had the perfect balance of negative and positive. I want to know all of their plans and ideas, how they contrast with each other, and why they thinks theirs is better. That’s near impossible to do without critictizing the other guy.
With all that being said, I’ve already begun to see all the negative adds that Romney-supporting PACs (’cause Mitt would never do that himself) are putting out here in FL and I have to say, they’re pretty nasty. Newt’s numbers are also down here, but that’s been more to Santorum’s benefit than Romney’s. Only time will tell, but I have a feeling that Newt has the ability to pull this off if he really puts in 100% effort.

Someone was asking her about Mitt’s slipping numbers in the polls and what she thought was the cause of it. Her response? “I don’t think he’s slipping here at all. I’ve just spent all day travelling around talking to a bunch of Romney’s supporters and they still support him all the way.” (or something like that) Really Nikki??? So, first you want to ignore the polls and pretend that his numbers haven’t dropped. Then, to embed the delusion even further, you stick your head in the sand and spend all day talking to people who will tell you the opposite of the polls. I mean, polls are not an election, but they do represent real people and can indicate shifts in momentum. I guess that’s what you have to say on TV, but it didn’t win her any points in my eyes for her level of intelligence and ability to accurately assess a situation.
One final note…I love how the press kept saying that winning SC would lock it in for Mitt (which really isn’t true since the delegates have all been split up to this point). Now, I’m hearing it’s locked in for Mitt even if he loses SC and that it won’t really be a significant win for Gingrich. Give me a break! One minute, it’s the delegate counts that are important, the next it’s winning a state to create momentum. Or vice versa…whatever. Maybe they should all get jobs as fortune tellers. They’d be just as accurate. (My apologies to all of our fortune telling readers out there)

I don’t know about SC or Fla.,but NH and Iowa were open primaries where the dems could screw things up.When we get to Republican only,winner-take-all primaries we’ll see.If Newt wins big today it would put doubt in a lot of minds about Romney’s “inevitability.”

FL is definitely NOT an open primary. I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned this here before, but FL and AZ are the only two WTA states early in the election. The GOP changed the rules to say that all primaries before April 1 had to split their delegates. Apparently the punishment for not following the rule is to lose half your delegates. Well, AZ and FL have both already lost half their delegates due to moving their primary dates up, so they figured why not keep them WTA. That’s why it bothers me that all of Mitt’s negative ads are pushing votes from Gingrich to Santorum. That could end up winning it for Mitt and giving him ALL 50 delegates.
There’s a debate here in Jax on Thursday that I really wanted to go to. I signed up for the ticket lottery, but I haven’t heard anything yet, so I don’t think I got in 😦
Another interesting tidbit…early voting started today, so technically a lot of Floridians could vote before the candidates even get here. I’m going to wait until after Thursday’s debate ’cause if things aren’t looking good for Newt, I’d rather give FL’s delegates to Santorum.

Yep I am liking the guy more every day because he is up for the fight. Mittens will just be another McCain, sitting by and letting the other guy take over the debate. Obo will wipe his butt. Look at how he just stared at Newt in the last debate. He knew he was being outdone.
There are a lot of things to not like about Newt. He will have a mountain to climb to overcome all the hateful press he has had over the years. My lib friends are vapid in their hate for this man. But he sure knows how to explain things. The question is, will he get the chance, or will the press continue to cherry pick their sound bites to make him sound petty while showing obo pretending to be American Idol to the adoring masses.
The enemy is the media. It is going to take a helluva lot of us to beat them.

Can any of your lib friends give you a reason WHY they hate him?I’ve gotten into it with people who said they hated Sarah and when I asked them why all they could come up with was that she was a quitter.Thats what the libtards told them and they don’t want to hear the truth.I think there will be a helluva lot of people sick to death of the miseries foisted on this country by the Obama regime.If gas actually does hit $5 by summer,I doubt many aside from the leftist sheep will buy the ‘its the republicans’ fault’ crap.

I’ve got them divided into Noodle Heads and Listeners. The Noodle Heads will put their fingers in their ears and sing loudly when you try to talk facts, such as “How well has leftist social policy worked in real life?” Listeners will listen. You may not convince them of anything right away, but you can plant a brain splinter or two.

I also find that listening and asking someone else to explain their position is more effective in persuading people than explaining your position. When they have to say it out loud, the contradictions become more apparent.

There’s a reason the dems and the establishment GOP wanted to get the primaries wrapped up in a hurry.They had no intention of letting any kind of conservative have a chance to make his case.According to most polls,Romney is about even with Obama and Newt is about 6 points behind.We all know how fluid these things are and can change quickly as evidenced by the last debate.
I never cared much for Newt,but when he answers questions he doesn’t stammer like Obozo does.If Gingrich can pull this off and make it known Allen West will be his vice-president and Sarah Palin will be his energy secretary I’d crawl on hands and knees over broken glass to vote for that ticket.

I agree with what Sarah said, these debates have really helped the candidates to sharpen and focus their message. Someone on TV last night (don’t recall who) was saying this worked the other way around last time. The Republicans were so anxious to choose a candidate that they “forced” the nomination early in order to avoid all of the bickering and negativity that goes along with a drawn-out election. In the meantime, Obama and Clinton were going back and forth, arguing, smearing, you name it. In the end, the long drawn out debate proccess helped to better prepare Obama for the general election. McCain’s debate skills ended up being so-so, at best, and all the nicey-nice really didn’t pay off for him.

I got the feeling he thought they were nice to him, because he is a nice guy. It’s hard for good people to get the idea that Leftists do NOT share our values. At All. I’ve been working towards that for a long time and I think I’m finally really there.

Sometimes, sadly, it doesn’t pay to think well of your fellow man. I have noticed that, in general, nice people are just as likely to project their niceness onto other people as mean people are to project their meanness onto others. Cruel, selfish, dishonest, heartless people tend to think everyone else is just as cruel, selfish, dishonest and heartless as they are, and that any apparent niceness is only a pretense. I’ve known this for a long time, but it took me longer to realize that good, honest, kind, considerate people also tend to think that most other people are like them. Unfortunately, this makes the good people a whole lot more likely to get screwed over. The cynics at least are wary and distrustful.

Had a thought for the Countdown section … as the primaries are completed, could we have a running tally of the electoral votes going? I’m totally bewildered by the split thing youse guys talked about above.
The way I understand it, the primary electoral vote only matters if one candidate has enough to win before the convention. Dearest said the convention peeps are only bound by the primaries for the first vote. If that one doesn’t get us a candidate, they can vote however they want.
Is this right?

I wanted to keep a running delegate count, but it required knowledge that I didn’t have. So, I started to research it and found a lot of really good information. Then I suddenly started finding conflicting info. Specifically, several websites list Iowa being divided 6 Romney, 6 Santorum, 6 Paul while several others listed it as 12 Romney, 12 Santorum. I’m still trying to figure out who’s right. In fact, one website I looked at referenced another as its source and the other had the conflicting information. Very frustrating. I may try going to each state’s GOP website to see if I can get more accurate info that way. If anybody knows a reliable source (or just more about how it works than I do) it would be much appreciated.
As for the split thing, each state can decide how their delegates will be doled out. The RNC also makes rules each year. If the states fail to follow the rules, they can be penalized by losing delegates. This year, many states are being penalized, because so many moved their primaries up, etc. They’ve also said states will be penalized if they don’t proportion their delegates for primaries before April 1st. This is because they don’t want the early states to carry too much weight for any particular candidate. IA and NH obviously proportion their delegates to correlate with the actual vote totals. I wasn’t aware until last night, but apparently SC awards theirs as winner-take-all by voting district. That’s how Newt was able to win so many. There are also a certain number of delegates in some states that are given to party leaders w/in the state. So, they can vote however they want.
From what I’ve heard, your dearest is correct. They are only bound the first time around. A candidate must receive 50% or more to secure the nomination.
