The military’s biggest raise in 8 years

President Donald J. Trump has signed the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2018, which approves one of the largest defense spending increases since the Reagan presidency to help rebuild America’s Armed Forces.

Here is a quick list of what the NDAA does for America’s military:

  • Increases rather than shrinks the size of our forces for the first time in 7 years
  • Ensures that our military remains the world’s preeminent fighting force, which is vital to the Administration’s peace-through-strength strategy
  • Authorizes funding to allow for the continued defeat of ISIS and cover critical missile defense capabilities to confront the threat posed by North Korea
  • Takes concrete steps to rebuild U.S. military readiness
  • Approves a 2.4 percent pay raise for our troops—the largest in 8 years

BABY PARTS: Two companies have admitted guilt for selling baby body parts in a $7.7 million settlement with the district attorney in Orange County, CA. In the agreement, DV Biologics LLC and DaVinci Biosciences LLC must cease all operations in California within 60 to 120 days and admit liability for violations of state and federal law prohibiting the sale or purchase of fetal tissue. This news comes just days after the Justice Department started an investigation into the trafficking of fetal body parts.

TAX CUTS: The Treasury Department says the GOP’s proposed tax plan “would pay for itself and more, actually boosting revenue by $300 billion over 10 years.” Treasury’s numbers differ from that of a congressional forecast by taking into account the potential for stronger economic growth.

Fascism is a LEFT wing phenomenon

I read somewhere or other that the term “right wing” for fascists originated in the British government, where the communists were seated on the far left while their mortal enemies, the fascists, were seated as far away from them as possible, on the far right, so as to minimize the likelihood of brawling.

But fascism truly belongs to the big government left side of the political spectrum, where top down regulations trump individual freedoms. It was invented by an Italian and was first put into practice in Italy. In brief, it is simply socialism with a national identity.

Fascism bears no resemblance to right-wing conservatism, where grass roots responsibility and individual freedoms come first and government power is carefully limited.

Melania visits sick kids for Christmas

This FLOTUS seems to have a true heart for suffering children. It seems like every time she travels, I see a story about how she visited the pediatric ward of a local hospital.

This holiday season, she visited with patients and staff at Children’s National hospital in the nation’s capital. Then-FLOTUS Bess Truman began the now-traditional practice more than 60 years ago.

Mrs. Trump answered questions from the kids and read The Polar Express to them.

  • Her favorite Christmas song is “O Holy Night.”
  • Her favorite family Christmas tradition is eating dinner on Christmas Eve before they attend midnight Mass or worship services on Christmas Day, followed by another family dinner. “On the 25th, Santa comes. We open the presents and spend time together.”
  • Her favorite thing to eat for Christmas dinner is “healthy food. You feel very good after. Not too much eating,” she said. “The most important part is to spend time with the family.”
  • Her dream Christmas destination would be to “spend my holidays on a deserted island, tropical island with my family,” she said.

It was not Mrs. Trump’s first visit to Children National. She visited earlier in the year to help prepare a “healing garden” for patients that she helped dedicate on a follow-up visit.

Trump’s Beautiful Wall

Eight prototypes for President Trump’s border wall have been built by six companies and are now being physically tested for how easily someone can go over, under, or through them.

Meanwhile, in the Land of Socialist Nuts and Berries, contractors doing business with the Sanctuary City of Los Angeles are now required to disclose if they are working on Trump’s proposed border wall.  It is not clear to this reporter if they will be fired or merely required to sew scarlet T’s on all their clothing.

The Justice Department has formally launched a federal investigation into Planned Parenthood’s practices and the sale of fetal tissue and organs.

Pro-life activist David Daleiden who uncovered this operation said of the news:

“It is time for public officials to finally hold Planned Parenthood and their criminal abortion enterprise accountable under the law.”

Plagiarism or Flattery?

I just wanted to say a few (of my own) words about how much “sincerest forms of flattery” I post here.

  • For the record, I very often do NOT write completely original text for what I post here. I also don’t put everything I crib into quotation marks or create every graphic I post.
  • What I DO do is link to my sources and leave credits that are present. (Lots of graphics aren’t signed. I don’t sign mine.)

I know the quotation marks thing is very slipshod scholarship that would get me thrown out of academia, but I’m not writing scholarship so much as I am simplifying and sharing good stuff I find in what I read on the ‘net or at home in actual books.

I think of my posts as being the online version of what I’d share with someone I was chatting with in person or on the phone. Since I find that quotation marks make a piece a lot harder for busy readers to scan, I don’t use them much.

Scan: To skim quickly to catch the main idea and to decide if you want to engage your mind more fully and read more carefully. My graphics, indents, boxes, colors and boldings are all designed to make scanning easier for y’all.

If any of this bothers you, feel free to scroll past whatever I post. If you are the author of anything I crib and it bothers you, let me know; I’ll either take the post down or else rewrite it to include quotation marks and/or use my own words.

Mama Buzz suggested to Bunny that she make a nativity scene with her toys. This is what she came up with. (Joseph is really buff!) Baby Jesus’ blanket is a Holy Spirit prayer card. 🙂
