A VIDEO REVIEW OF LAST NIGHT’S CIRCUS

Full confession: I was up late trying to watch the canine and equine performance and didn’t quite make it. There’s so much to cover I’m going to break it into two parts. Most of you have seen some or all of the debate, others may have a life and actually missed it. This is the entire nearly three hour show for the truly masochistic and a lot of short segments with highlights broken down into very short soundbites. If you only have a short time to browse I urge you to watch the exchange between The Donald and Carly Fiorina, who was absolutely amazing. Her comment on Iran and Planned Parenthood was the absolute best.

SOMETIMES LIFE IMITATES ART

Way back a long time ago, I think about 191, when AMC actually showed CLASSIC films I came across Elia Kazan’s 1957 film “A Face In The Crowd” starring a young Andy Griffith. At the time, I was struck by the similarities between this small town cornpone who turned into a rhetorical Pied Piper and one William J. Clinton. Fast forward 17 years and the media-generated illusion of Barack Obama was foisted on us.

I was reading Cal Thomas’ column today and he equated the Trump phenomenon to the same thing. This is an excerpt; I didn’t think you’d mind my spoiling the end, since most don’t have time. The entire film is available for viewing on Youtube. It co-stars Patricia Neal as the radio host who had fallen in love with him then realized the monster he had become.

“Jeffries has a local radio show on which she interviews interesting characters. She finds Rhodes irresistible and puts him on the air. Rhodes becomes a sensation, eventually climbing the ladder to his own network TV show and then, as politicians approach him for endorsements, a self-described kingmaker.

“I think of Rhodes when I watch Donald Trump. The two have much in common. Rhodes’ view of women seems to mirror Mr. Trump’s. In one scene, Rhodes says, ‘A guitar beats a woman every time.’ He marries more than once and has several affairs during and in between those marriages.

“As he becomes intoxicated with a beverage clearly not the milk of human kindness, Rhodes brags: ‘I’m not just an entertainer. I’m an influence, a wielder of opinion, a force a force!’

“Later as his political and cultural demise approaches, Rhodes says this about his audience when he thinks the microphone is off (Jeffries has kept it on to expose him as a fraud and make amends for creating a monster): ‘Those morons out there? Shucks, I could take chicken fertilizer and sell it to them as caviar. I could make them eat dog food and think it was steak. You know what the public’s like? A cage of guinea pigs. Good night, you stupid idiots. Good night, you miserable slobs. They’re a lot of trained seals. I toss them a dead fish and they’ll flap their flippers.'”

I think the huge difference is that back then character actually mattered. Had something like that happened to Obama it wouldn’t have made a whit of difference.

MONDAY MORNING MUSINGS

and other alliterations.

Stopped at Meier this morning. Was a little sad as I passed the Halloween candy display. They had those peanut butter thingys in the orange and black wrappers. I used to eat them by the bag. I now have type II diabetes. Can’t have them anymore.

Also bought a 5# bag of russet potatoes. Sign said $1.19. Got home and looked at the receipt. I picked up the wrong taters. These were organic potatoes. $4.49/bag. I’ll be taking them back tomorrow while I’m on my route.

Took DW to our granddaughter’s softball game yesterday then to Steak and Shake for lunch. They’re featuring a caramel apple shake for the season. DW made a face I’ve rarely seen since our wedding night.

Coming back from WalMart a little while ago we ended up behind a black Corvette driven by a geezer about 75 years old. He was doing 30MPH. I wasn’t aware Corvettes went that slow.

Yesterday was Rosh Hashana. I’ve been looking to find the article about the celebration Obama surely held at the White House for all his Jewish friends. He DID, didn’t he? He’s never missed a muslim holiday…ever.

I’ve seen a few articles about European countries realizing what they’re doing and cutting off the flood of Syrian “refugees.” 75% of them are military age cowards too afraid to fight for their country but they want to screw up somebody else’s.

Thinking about today and reflecting on where we were and where we’re headed I just had to lighten things up a little.
RJ football tomorrow, RJ’s big sis playing fast pitch softball on Sunday.
There’s a chill in the air. Fall’s coming. Time to trek to the apple orchard for some apple donuts and cider. I enjoy the fall. It’s what comes just after I’m not too fond of.

Must Add by CtH:  My dd told us recently that she and hubby were trying to clean up their language now that they have a very verbally precocious toddler copying everything they say. But it ain’t easy, what with all the years in the military where cussin’ is just part of the culture. One of my kids mentioned once that coming home was kind of hard, because words she uses every day at work aren’t allowed in my house. I smiled sweetly and told her my delicate princess ears appreciated her efforts on their behalf. Anyway, back to my toddler grandson, who recently hollered from his car seat, “What does that hole tuckus think he’s doing?!”

FOURTEEN YEARS AGO TODAY

Everybody remembers where they were and what they were doing. It’s one of a handful of significant events in one’s life that stand out.

November 22,1963…. I was in 8th grade science class when the principal made the announcement over the loudspeaker

July 20,1969… I was in summer class at Jr.college watching a small black and white TV the professor brought in to watch Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon.

Sept.11,2001… I was gathering dirt uniforms and listening to Don Wade on my portable radio when the newsman broke in to say a plane had hit one of the towers. At first, reports indicated it was accidental. The truth was brought home as we watched the second plane head into the second tower and burst into flame.

For a brief moment the nation came together as we suffered a horror heretofore unknown to us.I thank God we had a strong,moral leader to see us through this heart-wrenching trauma.

It took almost two weeks for the press to get back to their business of smearing the president in every possible way, starting with the video of him reading to a grade school class when an aide came in and whispered about what was happening. He was criticized for not jumping up and running out screaming, for flyimg on Air Force One to a safe location. Did he know about the attack beforehand? Was it an inside job? It must have pained them to hold their tongues for a few days while the nation mourned its lost.

Fast forward 7 years. An unknown mulatto who had no experience doing anything except getting high, doing some streetcorner hustling and having everything handed to him becomes the object of the media’s unbridled passion, who hoisted him on their shoulders and whisked him into the White House with the help of a Republican party who ran as poor a candidate as they could find, who expended more effort destroying his own VP nominee than fighting for the presidency.

Straightaway this America-hating Muslim announced to the world that the lives and treasure sacrificed to try to stabilize the Middle East meant nothing as he planned to turn tail and run as fast as he could.

Cue ISIS, commanded by Saddam’s former military leaders who spread blood and destruction, first to the Kurds and the Yazidis, then spread like a plague. They knew they had nothing to fear from their fellow Muslim who lied to the American people about how we were fighting the enemy.

I firmly believe he tipped off the Taliban to the transport helicopter that was carrying Seal Team Six after they killed bin Laden. You’ll never convince me otherwise.

Then came Sept.11, 2012. I can’t rightly recall where I was but I know where that sad excuse for a human was. He’d gotten word the attack in Benghazi was underway. He turned his back and walked away. He had a big fundraiser in Las Vegas the next day.

Now he’s telling us we have to take in at least 10,000 Syrian “refugees.”

THESE ARE NOT REFUGEES. THESE ARE MUSLIM MEN COMING HERE TO WAGE JIHAD ON OUR SOIL AND HE’S WELCOMING IT!

There was a massive rally in DC today to stop the Iran Deal. Noted conservatives Mark Levin, Ted Cruz, Phil Robertson, Sarah Palin, and The Donald, whose party is unclear. There were thousands of pissed-off patriots in attendance, although the news outlets will put it at “hundreds” or a “sizable’ crowd. In the end, it will make little difference since we are largely ignored by the DC gasbags who want our money and votes but not our voices. They’d just as soon we sat down and shut up. Not gonna happen.

Hope everybody had a great holiday weekend. The rain held off until this morning and we took full advantage of the warm weather. Saturday we made the journey to RJ’s football game. I just never get tired of seeing the kids play. It’s one of the few joyful things left to me.

AS MY DAYS DWINDLE TO A PRECIOUS FEW MY PRIORITIES HAVE CHANGED TO FINDING PEACE AND JOY IN LITTLE THINGS MANY MAY OVERLOOK. GOD CONSTANTLY REMINDS ME HOW TRULY BLESSED I AM.

Since Barack Obama began his reign of terror, the food stamp ranks have swollen to 47 million. There are 93 million people not in the work force, the highest rate in 38 years. He has bragged about 200,000 new part-time low wage jobs in the same month that 400,000 better-paying full-time jobs disappear. Since those who have not found work and have run out of unemployment are not counted in the ginned-up unemployment numbers, he brags about a 4.7% unemployment rate when the true figure is in excess of 19%.

My last full time job was in 2011 when I worked as a transporter for Medicaid recipients until, as they do with all their small vendors, the state of Illinois forces them into bankruptcy by not paying them. They don’t even pay lottery winners, even though the money is supposed to be there. It was exactly one year between the business closing and my social security benefits to begin. I was fortunate to be close enough to early retirement that we survived. Millions of others are not so fortunate. There is no reason to believe that the situation will improve anytime soon.
