1,000 more people shot in Chicago compared with same time last year
A thousand more people have been shot in Chicago this year compared with the same time last year after a weekend that saw eight people killed and at least 40 wounded, according to police and data compiled by the Tribune.
At least 3,475 people had been shot in the city as of shortly after midnight Monday compared with 2,441 people shot this time last year, an increase of 1,034, according to Tribune data. There have been at least 595 homicides this year compared with 409 this time last year, an increase of 186.

This is the Hubley Texan Junior. It was first made in 1940, out of cast iron. After WWII it was made from a metal alloy with a cast iron hammer and trigger. That was known as the ‘transition gun.’ About 1951 this model came out, being all die cast. These were sold in toy stores, dime stores, and grocery stores on a card for about .79. They made millions of them because most parents could afford them.
This is the Hubley Colt .45. It came with six two-piece bullets to fire caps with. It is still popular with boomers today because at 13 1/2″ it is the largest toy gun that was made. They made them this big because, keep in mind, boys played with toy guns until they were 13 or 14. Before video games and iphones.
This is the Mattel Dick Tracy snub-nose 38. It is a pretty common toy and I always used to have one for sale. I was at a toy show in Chicago when an off-duty officer working security came by my booth and did a double take. I told him Mattel made this gun from 1959 until 1962, when they stopped production because people were robbing stores with it, since it looked so real. Since it was a toy, you couldn’t be charged with armed robbery then. He informed me that now you don’t even have to show a weapon, just indicate you have one, even if it’s just your finger in your pocket. It’s classified as an armed robbery.
This was the ammo for Mattel’s Shootin’Shell toys. The greenie caps stuck to the back of the cartridges. The plastic bullets snapped into the spring-loaded shells and actually fired. A card of these sold for 50 cents. Today an unopened pack like this is about $40-$50. I had a lot of these I carried loose to shows because they were always in demand. I sold 1 casing and 2 noses for $10 and could hardly keep them in stock.

In Sunday’s first softball contest Big Sis’ team came from behind, scoring two runs in the bottom of the final inning to triumph 5-4. The second game saw Miss Karissa’s Thunder team vanquish the girls from Team Arby’s by a score of 23-10 (it was 23-1 before the manager put in all substitutes). The cherry on the Sunday sundae was the Green Bay Slackers falling to the Minnesota Vikings 17-14 Sunday Night.
Meanwhile, back in the world I choose not to live in, the Enslaved Press is in full protective mode for Hillary and she and Barry have once again proven that elections take precedence over dead Americans and waves of terror attacks. The man wanted in connection for two bombings and an attempted bombing in New York and New Jersey this weekend has been arrested after a shootout with police.
A bar owner in Linden, New Jersey called police around 11am Monday morning, after finding 28-year-old Ahmad Khan Rahami sleeping in the entryway of his business.
When police arrived on the scene, Rahami brandished a weapon and started shooting at the cops – injuring two. Officers eventually shot Rahami in the right shoulder and he was taken from the scene in an ambulance, handcuffed to a stretcher.
Police released Rahami’s picture Monday morning, saying he was wanted for questioning in connection to the Saturday bombings in New York City and Seaside Park, New Jersey, as well as the foiled bombing of the Elizabeth, New Jersey train station on Sunday. Law enforcement say it was fingerprints left behind on an unexploded pressure cooker bomb in Manhattan that led them to Rahami. Twenty-nine people were injured when another bomb placed a few blocks away was detonated Saturday night.

Clinton’s strategy is focused firmly on the eastern part of the state. Obama won 85 percent of the vote in Philadelphia in 2012, and Clinton has her sights set on coming as close as she can to his performance there while also outperforming Obama in the four suburban counties bordering the city.
Almost 2 million votes, or fully one-third of the 5.67 million presidential votes cast in the state in 2012, came from Philadelphia plus Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties. It’s a region replete with moderate Republicans struggling with the decision about whether to support Trump.

Missouri legislators bypassed the governor’s wishes and instituted the new gun-friendly law by a vote of 112-41 in the House of Representatives and 24-6 in the Senate. Under the law, anyone over 21 who can legally own a firearm may now legally carry a firearm. The move continues a nationwide trend towards what activists call “constitutional carry.”
From the nation’s founding through 2002 Vermont was the only state that didn’t require a state-issued permit to carry a firearm. Alaska became the second state to adopt the policy in 2003. Over the last six years another nine states have followed suit, making it the hottest trend in state-level gun policy

Two hostages remain in captivity because President Obama couldn’t be bothered to approve their rescue while he was on vacation, according to defense officials familiar with the details who spoke to Fox News
The SEALS could not get the go ahead because Obama didn’t have time, while on vacation at Martha’s vineyard, to give his approval and wanted 24 hours to consider it.
Other officials with knowledge of the situation expressed frustration with the failed mission.
“The hostages didn’t have the luxury of time,” one official said. “The president was on vacation. How could he not find time to approve this mission?”
The SEALS had everything in motion and were ready to carry out the mission. All that was needed was Obama’s approval, but when the radio came on that’s not what the team heard.

Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey is facing legal action because of her use of the state’s consumer protection law to demand internal records from several large firearms manufacturers.

The fishing trip with RJ was great. I’ll be posting soon. We got home that afternoon and had no phone, cable, or internet. The Comcast guys found out somebody (probably the pondscum who moved out downstairs) disconnected the cable and cut it into pieces.
