Two days ago, President Trump signed an Executive Order about visa entry procedures and refugees from Syria. Although leftists’ heads are exploding, their claims are either totally exaggerated or flat out FAKE NEWS.
I have read the Executive Order and summarized it below in simple terms.
First, there there is no “Muslim Ban.” There is a postponement of entry from 7 countries (Iraq, Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen) previously identified by the Obama administration as posing extraordinary risks. Most of the Muslim countries are not on the list.
Second, the list has nothing to do with Trump’s foreign business concerns. It was PRESIDENT OBAMA who first restricted visa waivers for those seven Muslim-majority countries. Funny how nobody complained or marched in protest, but now Trump does it and heads are exploding?
Third, it’s a suspension, not a ban. Trump has ordered an immediate evaluation of our visa procedures to better screen out those who would pose a risk to our safety.
Fourth, the suspension does not affect foreign nationals traveling on diplomatic visas, North Atlantic Treaty Organization visas, C-2 visas for travel to the United Nations, and G-1, G-2, G-3, and G-4 visas. Also, it allows waivers on a case-by-case basis.
Fifth, they’re also going to create a biometric entry-exit system to track travelers, as was recommended by the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States.
Sixth, refugees will be limited to 50,000 for 2017 and the feds will no longer dump them on state and local communities without their consent.
Seventh, the Attorney General is going to begin collecting and making public information regarding foreign nationals who have been charged with or convicted of terrorism-related offenses and/or gender-based violence against women, including honor killings.
There’s nothing here that should warrant all the hyperbole and sign waving. The order is about keeping Americans safe from people who want to hurt us. Anybody who has a problem with that needs to get his head examined.
