At 14 years old RJ is almost 6’1″. His co-ordination hasn’t kept up with his growth and he sometimes runs like he has a load in his pants, but he’ll get there. Small towns really support their teams and everybody joins in the fun. Amid all the violent, ugly things going on in the world, Friday nights are like a weekly celebration of what the American spirit can achieve.

My grandfather was a sometimes stern man who was not given to show melancholy. So it was of some notice that day in August of 1969 when he came through the kitchen door from work. Such a magnificent season was destined to end in heartache. After a short rain delay they pushed 2 runs across in the 10th inning and had to survive a desperate rally in the bottom of the frame to finally end the longest championship drought in American sports history, 8-7.
It was a season for the ages. Going 103-59 in the regular season before twice fighting back in the playoffs from a 3 games to 1 deficit in best-of-seven series to reach the summit. Generations of fans finally had their dreams fulfilled.
It’s been a very long day for me. Up all night, the papers from Chicago were two hours late getting here, and by the time I got home from breakfast with my kin I was completely spent. Up again after a hard nap, the full impact of this historic day has not yet been fully realized. I never thought I’d live to see it.

I have enjoyed this wonderful season as a distraction from the political cesspool we are drowning in.
There, too, we are on the precipice of the most fraudulent, monumental vote rigging operation since the late and unlamented Saddam Hussein, the bastard in Iraq, who garnered 99.9% of the vote when he allowed a vote. Anybody who didn’t vote for him wound up dead. Most of the national polls show the race tightening, with many showing Trump actually pulling ahead. This usually happens as people get more interested and different polling agencies try to show these fiascoes as some kind of competition. I, for one, am unconvinced that this election has not been a foregone conclusion for 8 years. At least Trump is not the phony moderate milquetoast that McCain and Romney were. Trump provided an outlet for peoples’ anger and frustration over the few elites who rig everything to suit their own selfish interests. His rallies drew tens of thousands, Hillary’s, a few hundred. Yet, in the end, it is highly doubtful he can overcome the voting machine flipping, fraudulent multiple voting patterns, which happens far more often than is ever reported, and of the 40 or so million who are here illegally it is unclear how many of them get away with voting, especially in states without voter ID. The Cubs will know their fate in a few hours. The country has to wait 6 more days.

Gruntington Post[Paris] – James Gruntson, our man in Paris, checked in last night after being shaken from his usual drunken stupor by a pickpocketing-turned-violent at the Eiffel Tower. He had planned to go to the top, along with all the other rowdy, drunken football fans packing Paris these few weeks for the UEFA 2016 Euro Championships, and he got through the queue after about an hour. He had his 30 Euros in his hand and was about to hand it to the attendant at the gate, when a little old Pakistani woman (or as Barack would say: “Pockistahni woman”) reached from behind him and grabbed his money and ran off.
Being in total shock, James merely looked up at the faces of the Eiffel Tower staff who were busy laughing at him. Shrugging and walking away, Jim learned a valuable lesson from this experience. If he’d been in Communist China, (ok, I know there’s no Eiffel Tower in China) and this had happened, ten citizens would have chased down the woman and roughed her up and apologized to Jim while handing his money back. Then they’d take the old bitch to the police. In France, nobody friggin’ cares about some stupid tourist, or justice, or pride in their pathetic country, even though they are actually getting paid by “The City of Light” (La Ville Lumière) to care about those things. Whatever. I guess the other lesson is not to look too ‘nice’, even if you’re over 6 feet tall, when everybody else looks like this:

But anyway, back to the actual football game. If anybody cares, Spain kicked the asses of the Turkish team yesterday, 3-0, which is a pretty good score in a game that often ends scoreless. Like friggin’ LePanto all over again. Also, Spain seems to be favored to take the entire championship, and I’m just fine with that. We’ll see how it goes. But, personally, I’m not sure how anybody can get jazzed up over a sporting event where the best example of cheesecake on the ads or Twitter feed is something like this article below.
Although, in fairness, the football players get a lot of exposure, and their long hair is much more attractive than most of the European women in view. At least, I think this is a player in the photo below. I’ll have to check. Aw, f*+k it. It’s not that interesting.
