SHE WAS THERE, LORD: “We met as he was digging in the dumpster looking for recyclables. I asked him what possessed a man to do such a thing? He shared that his wife died unexpectedly and in the wake of her death, he tried heroin- ONE TIME and became addicted. He lost his home and job as a result of his addiction.
“Over the next several months, Will and I developed a friendship. We helped each other through a few tough times by offering advice and life experience. Then- one day he was gone! I never saw him again.
“Over the years I’ve wondered what happened to him. I wondered if he was even alive.

DEMOCRAT PLANTATION: Democrats prove they don’t want poor blacks to succeed by ensuring the ghetto schools they control do NOT actually TEACH the skills young blacks need to get good jobs. Young adults need to be able to read and write proper English and know how to dress and groom themselves for the work place. They need to believe in taking responsibility and having self-respect that isn’t based on gang membership or time spent behind bars.

HONORING THE DEAD: Today is the Feast of All Souls, a day when we Catholics make a point of praying for the poor souls in Purgatory – i.e., a temporary state occupied by souls who have died in a state of grace, but who still need to purge themselves of the residual effects of their sins.
And while I believe that the doctrine of Purgatory speaks to God’s mercy, justice, and love for all souls, I do not believe that God gives anyone a catechism test at judgment, rewarding those who get every jot and tittle correct with eternal life and condemning anybody who gets even one thing wrong with eternal damnation.
But that doesn’t mean I don’t think doctrine doesn’t matter. Doctrine does matter, because it undergirds and drives behavior. Continue reading
