Garabandal

Between 1961 and 1965, four girls in San Sebastian de Garabandal, a hamlet in northern Spain, received thousands of visions and locutions from Our Lady. Though the apparitions have not been formally approved by the Church, they were accompanied by a vast number of phenomena that defy natural explanation. Those also do not prove that something is from God, since the devil can pull off some pretty impressive parlor tricks. But they were well documented as legit, not magic tricks, so something supernatural happened. And both St. Pio of Pietrelcina (aka, Padre Pio) and St. Teresa of Calcutta (aka, Mother Teresa) believed the source was Heaven.

Another important sign that the visions were authentic is that aspects of the messages Our Lady gave to named Mari Loli, Jacinta, Mari Cruz, and Conchita have come true. For example, on June 18, 1965, Conchita reported Our Lady told her, “Many cardinals, bishops, and priests are following the road to perdition, and with them, they are taking many more souls. Even less importance is being given to the Holy Eucharist.” At the time, the idea seemed preposterous. Now we know how the Freemasons and homosexual priests, bishops, and cardinals were actively working from within to destroy the Church.

In 1963, Our Lady told Conchita that after Pope John XXIII (who had just died), there would be four popes, one of whom would govern the Church for only a very short time. This latter statement was confirmed in the 33-day-long pontificate of Pope John Paul I. After that, Our Lady said, “Then it will be the end of times.” That suggests the “end of times” began with the elevation of Pope Francis in 2013.

The girls also reported that Our Lady told them about the Warning, which many Catholic mystics have also told us about. (N.b., it is also known as the Illumination of Conscience.) Conchita described it as a “correction of conscience” during which everyone in the world will be given a revelation of the state of their souls before God. “We will see the consequences of our sins and will feel sorrow for them. The Warning will be a moment of great grace for mankind, a true penetration of the Holy Spirit into our inmost hearts, but it will be a traumatic event when we recognize the gravity of our sins and our distance from God.”

Conchita reported that everything will happen “when communism comes again.” When questioned if this meant that communism would go away before then, Conchita replied, “I don’t know, the Blessed Virgin simply said, ‘when communism comes again.’” In the 1960s, “communism” basically meant the Soviet Union and there was no reason a bunch of school girls could or would predict that it would go away, much less go away and then come back again. Yet we saw the Soviet Union fall apart very suddenly in the 90s, and now, with Putin’s aggression in Ukraine, it seems he wants to bring it back.

Mari Loli said the Warning will occur at a time when “Russia will suddenly and unexpectedly overrun and overwhelm a great part of the free world. … Some priests who are communists will create such confusion that people will not know right from wrong.” Jacinta said, “The Warning itself will occur when the situation will be at its worst.” Conchita said, “The Pope will go to Russia, to Moscow and after his return to the Vatican, hostilities will break out in different parts of Europe.” Pope Francis has said several times recently that he hopes to go to Moscow as soon as possible.

In 1962, Conchita told her aunt that Our Lady said these things would come to pass at a time when an important Synod was being held in the Church. On October 9, 2021, Pope Francis launched a two year long, global synod during which the entire church is called to reflect on its life and mission in the third millennium. It will close in 2023.

The girls also predicted something that seemed ridiculous, if not impossible in the 1960s, namely that churches would close and the faithful would be prevented from receiving the sacraments. Who would have ever thought it possible, even one day prior to actually seeing it happen, that bishops all over the world would willingly shutter churches for COVID?

Our Lady also told the girls that, within a year after the Warning, a great Miracle will occur in Garabandal. The sick who are there on that day will be cured, unbelievers will be converted, and Russia and other countries will be converted. The Miracle will be seen over the area of The Pines and will be visible from all the surrounding mountainside which will serve as a natural amphitheater to hold the crowds.

Conchita knows the date, which she will announce to the world eight days in advance. Over the years, she has dropped a few hints about the date. “It will take place on or between the eighth and sixteenth of March, April or May. It will not happen in February or June. It will be on a Thursday at 8:30 p.m. It will coincide with a great ecclesiastical event in the Church. It will be on the Feast-day of a young martyred saint of the Eucharist.” Note: I don’t know when the t.v. interview in the video below happened, but it was a very rare event and I was charmed by her modesty and beauty.

If The Warning happens this fall (see “Get yourselves prayed up, people!” @ https://polination.wordpress.com/2022/06/16/get-yourselves-prayed-up-people/), then the clues Conchita gave would have to fit a date in 2023. I looked up next spring’s calendar to find the dates of the Thursdays between the eighths and sixteenths of March, April, or May. On the liturgical calendar, these are all just ordinary Thursdays. But Conchita said, “It will coincide with a great ecclesiastical event”, which suggests it will have something to do with the organization or government of the Roman Catholic Church, not the liturgical calendar or feast days. If I hear about something special being scheduled, I’ll be sure to let you know!

I also looked up all the saints for those five Thursdays and found one who fit the bill, Saint Hermenegild of Spain. Hermenegild was raised in the Arian heresy by his father, King Leovigild the Visigoth of Spain. (Garabandal is also in Spain.) When he converted to Catholicism, his father had him imprisoned, demanding that he return to Arianism. On Easter in 586, the king had an Arian bishop take him communion. When Hermenegild refused to receive Holy Eucharist from the heretical priest, the king ordered his son’s execution. Note that, if the Garabandal Miracle is going to happen next April, the eighth day before his feast day, when Conchita would be making her announcement, will be Passover.

Our Lady also told the girls that following the Miracle, a permanent Sign will appear at the site of the Miracle, “a thing never before seen upon the earth,” to prove to everyone the authenticity of the Catholic faith. It will be possible to photograph, film, and televise the Sign, but not to touch or to destroy it.

This is all strikingly similar to the Third Secret that the visionaries at Medjugorje have received. Their permanent sign will appear on the Hill of Apparitions. Like Conchita, they know when it will happen, but are not allowed to say. And like the Garabandal visionaries, it will be possible to see and photograph the sign, but not to touch it. I’ve often wondered if the two signs will be connected somehow, especially since, in addition to both being remote mountain villages, San Sebastian de Garabandal, Spain, and Medjugorje, Bosnia-Herzegovina, are at the exact same latitude – 43°12′N!
