This is one of those rare and seldom seen days. The weekend, once again, was proof there is nothing in this world so important as family. During the past week, RJ’s team took third in their league tournament.
On Saturday, RJ’s big sis, who is 14 going on 30, played in the all-star softball tournament. She played left, third base and pitched an inning. Keep in mind, these girls play fast pitch and some of them can really bring it. Here she is with the game ball.
Yesterday was Tyler’s 7th birthday party. His blood count had been low so he spent most of the week in the hospital. He was released on Friday and had the party yesterday. He has dark circles under his eyes and he’s really, really tired. Nobody should have to go through what he is. But he has a loving support group and he’s unbelievably strong. He has about a million Legos and loves to play with his older cousin, RJ.
It’s things like this that help keep you grounded in reality when every instinct you have is to say: screw it, it’s not worth it. There’s an awful lot we can learn from kids when we take the time to listen.

If you were at home as much as we are, you’d figure out what a vast wasteland daytime television is. Chrissy doesn’t watch it, while I have every conceivable channel. There is a block of court shows on an independent station weekday mornings that I watch sometimes. The common denominator in all of them is that 60-70% of litigants are your basic minority types. I discovered they make up the most wacky reasons to get on TV, parents vs. chirrens, siblings, etc., because they get a trip to the city where the show is taped, get put up in a hotel the night before the taping, plus they get an appearance fee, which is usually a pool of money that any judgements are awarded are deducted from then the rest is split.
There’s a show called Paternity Court, which is a Maury ripoff. There was a recent episode where a tramp dragged not one, not two, but three possible sperm donors for her furry-headed little tax credit. After all three had their DNA tests, Q’UELLE SURPRISE! it was NONE of them. Now,I’m no expert on such things, but isn’t a woman’s cycle no more than a few days, or can she conceive anytime? One of the greatest problems we have today is there are no longer fathers, mothers, husbands and wives. It’s all baby mama and baby daddy. That depersonalizes relationships and makes the sex act as casual as a handshake for far too many who simply refer to it as “hooking up.” I was no angel back in my wasted youth, but at least I always found out what the woman’s name was before things got sticky (pun intended).
Other shows have a lot of money, a loan or a gift, and always, it’s ‘I’ll pay you back when I get my taxes.’ That’s the big day in the hood when all the baby mamas get they earned income credit for all the little chirrens with different last names.
