This poll may explain why Barry has suddenly decided to Bring Our Troops Home, over his general’s objections, but just in time to get him lots of free press for his re-election campaign. How I feel about this is best left unsaid.
The poll, however, I can yap about with verve and perhaps a touch of panache.
Gallup notes that polls from June-of-the-year-before are not highly predictive of election outcomes.
In two cases (both Bush), there was no distinct opposition front-runner by June-of-the-year-before and both presidents polled WAY ahead of the “generic Democrat.” One won the election. One lost.
In the other three cases, where there was a specific front-running opposition contender, the opposition candidate polled ahead of the president in the June-of-the-year-before Gallup poll.
Two of those – Clinton and Reagan – won re-election anyway. The third – Ronald Reagan – beat the incumbent.
None of the five is quite like this year’s situation, but there are clues in three of them that I find very cheering.
In both of the “Sitting Presidents v. Generic Opponent” polls gave the PRESIDENT a HUGE lead. Obama is behind.
And, in the one case where the weak, appeasing, Democrat president, Jimmy Carter, was running, his strong, conservative, Republican opponent, Ronald Reagan, polled slightly ahead of Carter, then won the election by a landslide.
Dear God, may we have another Reagan taking the Oath of Office in January 2013.

I finished up all my To Do list by supper time, but Dearest had meetings all evening, so I suddenly found myself with energy and alone time. Woohoo! I got to go play with those unemployment graphs some more.

I didn’t think I’d get a chance to use this graphic again. IMHO, it’s one of my best photoshops ever, but so far into BHO’s reign, I figured it was out of date … until I heard a DNC campaign weenie saying that blaming Bush for the economy is going to be a major DNC strategy for 2012.
(I forget who it was. I think Pete posted the link to a news interview video where a female Dem said “Bush Bush Evil Bush” and a male GOP said “How dumb is THAT.” More or less.)
Anyhow, I was a tad shocked. What kind of idiot moron can honestly blame Bush for 9/11 AND the current economy?

It’s got me curious how many people are buying the DNC meme … the economy is ALL Bush’s fault? If anyone sees a poll along those lines, please share.
I had a really bad day yesterday, so had to go prone for the duration of whatever it was. It worked out well for our visitors. It’s hotter than hockey pucks here, even inside my climate-controlled, allergy-oasis house. The a/c is NOT enough for really high temps … especially not for my pregnant daughter and our teething little one.
Poor Buzz! He had a major melt down yesterday and since I was feeling too rotten to be good company anyway, they went with Nonno to the air conditioned, loads of fun Science Center while I vegged on the couch with Netflix and ice packs.
I am going to keep working on the unemployment data Red Pill linked. I’d really like to get a look at data that goes back to Carter and Reagan, particularly if I can find something to show the speed of economic recovery with conservative principles vs. what’s going on now to counter this idiotic “It’s Bush’s fault” baloney.

This is the graphic Red Pill was asking for. I’d like to update it and reformat it. Anyone care to get me the data? I did not make the graphs I used and every time I look at them, I have to figure out all over again that it’s the x-axis, not the y-axis, that has the unemployment rates. I think it’s confusing. I haven’t figure out how to make a clear, quick to comprehend graphic of this data, but I think it would be compelling and very useful for 2012 to have one. I’d just rather put my available brain cells and time into the graphic itself, not hunting down the data.

This is so weird. TIME includes undeclared Michele Bachmann who Halperin gives 1,000 to 1 odds, but ignores Cain who is actively in the race and polling well.
