Autumn is not so bad. Cool, crisp days, bright fall colors. Apple orchards, fresh pumpkin bars, football (except for the woeful Chicago Bears, OUCH!). The problem is the long, cold, dark winter that follows fall, when spring seems light years away. It will seem even darker in about 58 days when the reality of a totalitarian government where individual rights are stripped in favor of the proletariat sets in. It’s just so depressing to know it’s coming and there’s nothing that can stop it.

NBC anchor Lester Holt just announced the topics for the first presidential debate

Obama’s Continuing War against D.C. Kids By Akash Chougule — May 14, 2015

For the seventh year in a row, President Obama has proposed defunding the D.C. Opportunity Scholarship Program, a school-choice program that allows inner-city students in the nation’s capital to escape failing and often dangerous public schools.

As Stephen Moore detailed recently in the Wall Street Journal, the Opportunity Scholarship Program serves nearly 5,000 students, 95 percent of whom are African-American. It funds private-school tuition for poor families, so that their children can attend schools they would otherwise not be able to afford. It accounts for a minuscule 0.0005 percent of the federal budget.

Nevertheless, the president — who recently stressed “opportunity gaps” in inner cities — has never missed a chance to try to end this program that benefits almost exclusively poor, minority, inner-city children. Of course, there is no speech, photo-op, or press release to go along with this annual tradition of his.

Ending the program would be a devastating blow to the thousands of students whose futures depend on it. Students in the program have a 91 percent high-school graduation rate, compared with 56 percent for D.C. public schools. One parent asked the obvious question: “If you’ve got a program that’s clearly working and helping these kids, why end it?”

Other families who benefit from the Opportunity Scholarship Program describe it as “a godsend for our children,” a “life-saver,” and “our salvation.” One father told Moore, “I truly shudder to think where my son would be today without it.”

Unfortunately, President Obama will never hear this testimony for himself — he refuses even to meet with these families. He is joined in opposition by nearly every Democrat in Congress, including Eleanor Holmes Norton, who represents D.C. and the families benefiting from the scholarship program.

Fortunately, the program is kept alive by conservatives in Congress like House Speaker John Boehner, Representative Paul Ryan, Senator Ted Cruz, and others who stand in solidarity with these families — despite the fact that most of them represent populations demographically very different from inner-city Washington.

So why are conservatives standing with poor inner-city families, while President Obama and his liberal allies try to take away their opportunity? Well, it is probably not a coincidence that many liberal campaigns are huge beneficiaries of teachers’-union largesse — and teachers’ unions feel threatened by school-choice programs, which create competition and accountability in education (rather than monopolizing the system and trapping kids in union-controlled schools). Of course, the union leaders don’t say this. When defending their actions, they claim that school choice strips funding from public schools.

But Congress addressed these funding concerns when setting up the Opportunity Scholarship Program. Because the program provided $20 million for choice vouchers, they gave an extra $20 million to the public schools. Moreover, we know from experience that dumping more money into the public-school system does not improve outcomes. The country as a whole has more than doubled education spending over the past 40 years, but achievement has flat-lined — and still the unions oppose school choice. As one parent put it, unions “aren’t afraid that the voucher program won’t work — but that it will.”

There also is a degree of hypocrisy in President Obama’s opposition to the scholarship program. While he sends his own children to the elite, $30,000-per-year Sidwell Friends School, poor students who live just a couple of blocks away from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue would have no choice but to attend failing, inner-city schools if the Opportunity Scholarship Program were shut down. Should these kids not have the same educational opportunities as President Obama’s daughters?

One parent half-joked, “He lives in public housing too — why should he get school choice because he’s rich and we’re not? If it’s good for your children, it’s good for our children.”

Education is the first step to a brighter future, and school choice is creating just that for millions of students around the country, and thousands every year here in Washington. President Obama’s desire to defund the Opportunity Scholarship Program is at best ironic, coming from the leader of a movement that lends so much lip service to ending income inequality and uplifting poor communities.

Fortunately, the conservative legislators mentioned above and many others stand up to President Obama and defend the D.C. Opportunity Scholarship Program year after year. By advocating for this and other school-choice programs, conservatives are the ones actually providing thousands of impoverished students “hope” and “change” they can believe in.

Walker got an unexpected opportunity to flex his legendary anti-union muscles on stage when protesters interrupted his speech by shouting from the crowd.

The Democrat’s Hate-Filled War on Minority Women

Scratch a Leftist and you will find not only a racist, but also a misogynist.  After Rush Limbaugh called Sandra Fluke a “slut”, President Obama phoned Fluke to “send a message to his daughters and all women” that they shouldn’t be “attacked or called horrible names because they are being good citizens.” Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. That’s why he’s repeated his personal condolence calls to Conservative women who have been attacked or called horrible names. Oh wait. No, he hasn’t. Ever.

Nikki Haley is the first woman to serve as Governor of South Carolina. She is also the first non-Euro-American woman to have been elected as governor of a Southern state. At the age of 42, Haley is also the youngest current governor in the United States and one of only two of Indian ethnicity, the other being fellow Republican Bobby Jindal of Louisiana. If she weren’t a Republican, the Identity Politicians on the Left would lurve her. But you know them. Women and members of melanin-rich ethnic minorities are heroic servants of the people if they’re Democrat, but self-haters and sell-outs if they’re Republican.

  • May 2011: SC Democratic Chairman Dick Harpootlian called Haley “the gubernatorial equivalent of the ‘Real Housewives of New Jersey.'”
  • April 2012: Harpootlian complained about Haley campaigning for Romney when she should have been governing, then likened her to the Kardashians and Snooki for publishing an autobiography when she allegedly had not yet “accomplished anything significant.”
    • I think he could have more appropriately likened her to Barack Obama, who didn’t do his job as Senator because he was too busy campaigning in 2008, and who has spent a great deal of time since campaigning and fund-raising instead of governing.  Plus, Obama published an autobiography right after graduating from college … unless Harpootlian thinks that a black man graduating from college is a significant enough accomplishment to warrant a 464 page autobiography?  Cuz that wouldn’t be even a little bit racist. ::snort::
  • May 2012: The political director of South Carolina’s Senate Democratic Caucus labeled Nikki Haley the “Sikh Jesus” and warned heatedly that “her daddy wears a turban around Lexington and her mommy has a ruby between her head.”

Yes, I did. I also saw how he and his audience snickered and how he then said, “You gotta tell the truth.”

This reminds me of all those times Obama was “just scratching an itch” when he raised his middle finger while mentioning an opponent in a speech. His audiences laughed and he snickered and mugged too. So maybe Sheheen planned to call Haley a “whore” or maybe it really was a Freudian slip. Still … once he had done it and gotten a laugh, he seemed delighted to go along with it. Watch the video and see.

None of this should be surprising coming from the party that removed any mention of God from their platform, cheered more for abortion than for national security, compared Republican VP candidate Paul Ryan to Adolf Hitler and Joseph Goebbels, and declared loudly that all our rights are granted to us by the government, not the other way around as the Declaration and Constitution clearly state.

Majority support right to choose NOT to belong to a union

I think the “vote against” number — 22% — is another one of those poll questions that demonstrates how many Americans are true Obamacrat Progressives. They call themselves “mainstream” but they are very much NOT representing the majority of Americans in any way, shape or form.

STUDY: Forced Union Membership Harms Economy

2014_07 Right to Work States have more and better jobs

We must remember some things here about the big unions that have the big money and big political clout:

  • Big unions are NOT run by or staffed by workers. Small, in-house unions may be made up entirely of workers who work side-by-side with the people they represent, but the big unions are independent businesses whose cash flows are dependent on skimming dues money off the wages of workers.
    • Big union employees, particularly union bosses, typically earn a great deal more than the workers in the industries they claim to represent, but who they actually steal from to further their own agendas.
  • Big unions oppose Right to Work laws, not because these laws harm workers, but because they allow workers the right to stop paying dues to unions that do not represent them.
    • Big unions donate enormous amounts of money to the Democratic Party and to Democrat politicians; in return, they expect these legislators to promote laws that benefit union agendas. Among these are Right to Work laws, which they vehemently oppose.
  • Big unions are primarily concerned with lining their own pockets with union dues. They do not care if their negotiations or the laws they push for cause the loss of jobs overall.
    • In my own community, teachers begged their union to drop its demand for a pay increase that was going to force the strapped district to lay off non-unionized classroom assistants. The union refused. The teachers got their raises and the union got more dues money, but non-unionized workers lost their jobs completely and the kids they had served lost the help those assistants could have provided.

Veterans Affairs Management Accountability Act

May 21, 2014: The House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed (390 to 33) the Veterans Affairs Management Accountability Act. If the Senate passes and the President signs this bill into law, it would be much easier (read: possible) for the scandal-plagued VA to fire employees based on poor performance (read: clean out dead wood). YAYS were bipartisan; NAYS came from Democrats ONLY.

May 22, 2014: The day before Memorial Day weekend started, Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) asked for the Senate to bring this bill to a vote.  Senator Bernie Sanders (D-VT) objected on behalf of Senate Democrats. As chair of the Senate Committee on Veterans Affairs, Sanders has the power to delay ANY action on this important bill INDEFINITELY. He says in the video below he is going to hold a HEARING …. in June.

Remember back in 2009 when Democrats kept screaming about how Republicans opposed Obamacare because we supposedly WANTED people to DIE?

May 15, 2014: Senator Sanders justified his “sit on all VA reform legislation until hell freezes over” policy by telling CNN “We know that people die every day.”

Sanders also claimed, “There are problems, and we have got to get at those problems. But we need the facts to lead us to where we want to go.” But Congress AND the TWO presidents have KNOWN SINCE 2005 that the VA was failing veterans by delaying care, wasting money and falsifying their records!

Sanders NEVER served in the military, so why is he CHAIR of the Senate’s Committee on Veterans Affairs? Because he votes the way Harry Reid tells him to vote. Officially, he is an Independent (not a Democrat), but he describes himself as a “Democratic Socialist” which means he’s not the centrist his Independent status might suggest, but rather a Progressive Obamacrat.
