It is with a heavy heart it must be reported that your intrepid reporter kind of, sort of, in some way, OK, I was guilty of disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, and verbal abuse of a minor. Allow me to plead my case:
I went to fetch lunch for DW and I at the Subway today. Against my better instincts, I went through the driveup rather than go in and watch them make the sammiches. I ordered a cold cut combo and a BLT for my beloved child bride. When I got home, mine was as ordered, she got a bacon, lettuce and tomato. Minus the lettuce and tomato. I could have handled it better,but I just lost it. Stormed back to the store, asked a kid behind the counter who was obviously saving up for his first razor what a BLT was. He said, bacon, lettuce and tomato.
‘So why did you only put bacon on it?’
‘We don’t put anything on it unless the customer orders it.’
‘Then why don’t you just call it a B?’
‘A lot of people order it that way.’
‘Look, kid, nobody comes in here and pays 6 bucks for a piece of bread with 2 strips of bacon on it. Don’t pee on my back and tell me its raining.’
Then another girl jumped in and stated that’s the way they were told… only put on what the customer specifies. She didn’t fare any better. It was lunch and there were about a dozen people inside. I don’t know how many were amused and how many were annoyed. At that point I didn’t much care. There was an older man behind the register and he said for what it was worth, he agreed with me. I just get fed up with really stupid people who think they’re worth $15/hour.
Apparently in Obamaworld, independent thought and common sense are frowned upon. Guess I won’t be going in that store again for a while.
Perhaps I’m an embarrassment to my family,but my grandmother didn’t suffer fools lightly either.
The reports of Benjamin Netenyahu’s demise turned out to be slightly exaggerated. The jihadists in Hamas, Iran, Syria, and the White House are heartbroken. But how did he not only win the election, but his Likud Party pick up seats in the Knesset where they were supposed to lose? By showing some backbone, fighting for the survival of his country, and not trying to make deals with the liars and murderers who would do him in. He coalesced all the factions of his nation’s right wing to unite for the sake of survival.
Our own republican party could take this same lesson if only the entrenched establishment were willing to work with the conservative base. But they’re not. They have their own self-interest at heart, not those of the people they purport to represent. On any legislation of import they generally side with our enemy, the democrats, to thwart any positive change in the DC hierarchy. The house democrats have even sworn to protect Weeper-of-the-House John Boehner from the congressmen and women who swore to keep their word to their constituents. We keep hoping our party will stand up to the bullying of a nobody in the People’s House and his henchmen in the party, who know he’s a joke but dare not question their ruler and time and again we’ve seen our party ‘leaders’ surrender, often without so much as a whimper.
The reaction from the liberals has been interesting, to say the least.

Second,thank you for sharing some of your childhood memories. Being an exhibitor, be it as an arts and crafts fair, flea market, antique show, or toy show takes an awful lot of work. You need to make/find merchandise to sell, tag it, pack it, transport, set tables up, stay in your selling space all day and re-pack everything that didn’t sell and haul it home. Sometimes you make a profit,sometimes you don’t. What with the popularity of the internet people are finding other means to buy what they’re looking for. The reason I got into selling toys is that it was something fun (most of the time),I met a lot of dealers with much knowledge to impart that you would never get from a book,and mostly seeing the smiles on peoples’ faces when they see something that once brought them great joy during an innocent and carefree youth. I always maintained,if you can’t have fun selling toys,why are you doing it? I would hear lots of stories like those you posted yesterday about a favorite doll,truck or game. Therein lies the value in them. It’s a happy part of our past and we need to hang on to it in today’s world. If you don’t mind,I’d like to do a post from time to time about these wonderful things and maybe give you some information you didn’t have before. I really enjoy it because I never completely grew up at heart.

I decided to forego the regular post today. It’s getting tiring posting a bunch of crap about BB’s “scandals.” Let’s be clear — these are not scandals.This is criminal behavior and it’s who she is. It’s just sickening.
So I decided to post some memories of the things we played with that didn’t require batteries or WiFi to work. I’ll include a little information since I used to deal in vintage toys and am an expert in cap guns.
Mattel released the first Barbie in 1959. The first six years they were numbered Barbie#1 through #6. They were made in Japan before the manufacture was moved to China. All the features, nails, lips, and eyes, were all hand-painted. The first two dolls had holes in the feet for the special stands that came with them. Ladies…search your attic. This is the #1 blonde ponytail Barbie. If you have her in the box with the wrist tag and stand, you’re looking at north of $5,000.
This is the Mattel Fanner 50. When I started collecting, this was the first one I bought, since I said the same thing everybody would tell me at the toy shows I did: ‘I used to have one of these.’ It wasn’t a particularly well made toy, but Mattel recognized the value of advertising on Saturday morning cartoon shows, and they were fairly inexpensive. They sold over 40 million of them. With the single holster in the box was about $2.50. Today in mint condition this is worth about $200.00.

Rockton boy coping with rare cancer

ROCKTON — Friends are the best medicine for 6-year-old Tyler Levine. Despite undergoing chemotherapy, the first grader attends Rockton Grade School and Skypes with his friends when he’s in the hospital.
“For the most part, you wouldn’t know what he’s going through because of how high his spirits remain, especially when he’s around other kids,” his mom Alisha Levine said. “He’s a good kid, and people remark all the time how well he’s doing. He’s showing great courage, bravery and strength.”
Tyler is undergoing treatment for a rare former of cancer called peripheral primitive neuroectodermal tumor (PNET), also known as Ewing’s sarcoma. Alisha said everyone at Rockton Grade School has been extremely supportive, especially Tyler’s teacher Amy Stevens, Principal Glen Terry, school social worker Rebecca Rathe and other children and parents.
Tyler has a special room at school where he can rest, and teacher’s aide Laurie Yost sits with him. His friends at his Roscoe YMCA aftercare made him a quilt and have signed their names to it to show support.
Tyler’s mom Alisha is a well-known Zumba instructor from Roscoe who works at State Farm Insurance in Rockford for Julie Weaver. Tyler’s father is Jason Levine of Loves Park, who works at Rockford Health System.
Alisha describes Tyler as “a perfectly healthy, normal and happy 6-year-old.” All boy, Tyler loves dragons, dinosaurs, sports, video games and is a “strategist” at Monopoly.
It was during a bath on Dec. 11 that Alisha first noticed Tyler’s neck was swollen. Within a week he had undergone a biopsy for the mass and was put in a neck brace. The mass, pressing on his spine, had crushed a femoral artery and doctors were concerned about the stability of his neck.
By New Year’s Eve, Tyler’s parents learned the mass was a fast-growing primitive neuroectodermal tumor (PNET) or Ewing’s sarcoma.
Ewing sarcoma is a cancer that starts in the bones or soft tissues. The condition occurs mostly in children age 10 to 20. Approximately 200 new cases of this type of tumor are diagnosed in the United States each year. More than two-thirds of children with the localized disease become long-term survivors, according to Texas Children’s Cancer and Hematology Centers.
Fortunately, Alisha said Tyler’s PNET is localized and is shrinking thanks to a 30-week chemotherapy regimen. Tyler, who has a port installed in one of his veins, undergoes chemotherapy treatments at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. Tyler receives chemotherapy every two weeks, alternating between a 2-day cycle and a 6-day cycle.
His mother explained the next step in Tyler’s treatment is what is referred to as “local intervention,” either radiation or surgery scheduled to begin the last week of March. After Tyler undergoes additional scans, his parents will meet with his medical team at Lurie to determine which option will be best for him. Although it’s unlikely the tumor will be completely gone, so far it’s getting smaller.
Tyler and his mom are trying to make the best of the situation, keeping life as normal as possible. Tyler plays video games and Legos in the playroom. Alisha tries to maintain balance and her physical fitness through yoga and other workouts when staying at the Ronald McDonald House.
However, there are still challenges for Tyler such as nausea, fatigue and hair loss and low blood counts, which lowers his body’s ability to fight infection. Alisha said Tyler’s undergone three blood transfusions so far. Tyler also receives a booster shot after each treatment cycle to help boost his blood counts. If his temperature gets too high, his parents have to call his oncology team and take him to the emergency room.
After Tyler beats his initial battle he will have to get an echocardiogram once a year for the rest of his life to monitor for any potential long-term effects from his chemotherapy.
Although Tyler is covered by his dad’s health insurance, his parents are dealing with missed time at work, prescription co-pays, gas and food costs associated with travel to the hospital.
Alisha said she’s been amazed with the depth and swiftness of support the family has received. Many people have dropped meals off at her home, others have given donations or sent Tyler gifts such as a teddy bear he recently received from an anonymous donor.
Bowling event scheduled to benefit Tyler
A Tough for Tyler Moonlight Bowl event is being held Saturday, March 14 at Don Carter Lanes, 4007 E. State St., Rockford. The event will benefit Tyler Levine, a 6-year-old battling Ewing Sarcoma, a rare form of cancer.
The cost is $15 each or $30 per couple. It includes three games of bowling and shoe rental. Check-in is at 4 p.m., with a start time at 4:30 p.m.

Although lanes are still available, those who don’t wish to bowl are invited to come and show their support for Tyler. Donations are suggested, and pizza will be $10 for those not bowling.
There will be silent auctions and a 50-50 raffle. Some of the silent auction items include tickets to a John Cougar Mellencamp concert and an Ice Hogs gift basket. There are gift cards from Green Fire, Wired Cafe in Rockford, the Rockton Dairy Haus and more.
Tyler Levine’s mom is selling “Tough for Tyler” T-shirts. They are $20, with more than half of the proceeds going to help the family. Tyler’s uncle David Rogers made the logo for the shirt.
