Cantor defeat: Mythbuster edition

2012 Cantor Brat

Pistol Pete’s summary of the primary election is @ https://polination.wordpress.com/2014/06/11/petes-pagewhat-just-happened/.

The following is excerpted from my Fox News Update email:

Eric Cantor lost his primary to Dave Brat, a small college economics professor. Cantor is House Majority Leader and 13-year incumbent Representative for Virginia’s 7th congressional district. This is the first time ever that a sitting House majority leader lost a primary.

  • Myth #1: Cantor was upended in a low-turnout election by a small number of Tea Party “radicals.”
  • Reality #1: Voter turnout for the primary was 28% HIGHER than it was for the presidential year primary of 2012. As Pistol Pete said, “This was what I call a ‘broken glass election. That’s one where you would crawl on your hands and knees over broken glass to get to the voting booth.”
  • Myth #2: Immigration outrage among downscale voters overwhelmed Cantor’s upscale electoral base.
  • Reality #2: Turnout was up fairly uniformly across the district, including in Cantor’s affluent home county which he lost.
  • Myth #3: Democrats crossed over in Virginia’s non-partisan primary to sabotage the stronger Republican candidate to improve their chances in the fall.
  • Reality #3: There is no evidence for this. For one thing, voter turn-out in the most Democratic neighborhoods lagged far behind turn-out in the most Republican areas. Second, Brat had a 10-point margin of victory, something mischievous Democrats couldn’t achieve.
  • Myth #4: The race was another battle in the national civil war between the national Tea Party and the national Republican establishment.
  • Reality #4: Brat did get a big boost from talk radio heavy hitters like Mark Levin, but he had zero backing from any of the national groups. Brat said, “I had wonderful people in the Tea Party grass roots helping me out, and they’re clearly responsible for the win, but I ran on the Republican principles.”

So what did happen?

Brat ran as Cantor’s “term limit.” Folks are deeply fed up with the corrupt status quo in Washington. Also, Cantor has made himself part of the anti-Tea Party effort to shift the Republican party back toward more conservative principles. Cantor also flip-flopped on immigration, which just deepened voter outrage about the business as usual cess pool that is Washington, D.C. politics.

And next fall?

Brat’s Democrat opponent, is a professor at the same college. He had little support from the Democrat machine while they assumed he’d be running against the incumbent. Since Brat’s win, they’re helping him; but the national Tea Party groups are coming in for Brat as well. This should be fun. Plus awkward at college staff meetings.

Crimes and Misdemeanors

2013_10 08 How about some dignity and respect for us

We The People own the National Mall

Not Obama. Not Obama Democrats.

But Obama and his Bully Democrats led by Senate-majority leader Harry Reid have chosen to maximize the pain of the government “shut down” by Barry-cading all national parks, memorials and monuments.

This includes the National Mall.

October 8, 2013: During the Camino Americano protest on the (closed except for them) National Mall, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi made a point to thank President Obama personally for allowing the illegal alien protest to take place as scheduled … on the CLOSED National Mall.

Among the many pre-planned events for the National Mall that were cancelled because of the Democrat Embargo on We the People:

  • The Kicking for Kids Who Can’t Kick-a-thon sponsored by the Amputee Coalition
  • The Children’s National Medical Center’s 5k Race for Every Child.

POINT ONE: Obama restricted the use of publicly-owned national property to serve his personal political agenda.

The national parks etc. are closed because Obama Democrats refuse to negotiate with Republicans about the budget. If they can’t have Obamacare fully funded without discussion, then nobody can use national property. (Nyah. Nyah.)

POINT TWO: Obama lifted the restriction on the use of publicly-owned national property to serve his personal political agenda.

“We are not going to ship back 12 million people, we’re not going to do it as a practical matter. We would have to take all our law enforcement that we have available and we would have to use it and put people on buses, and rip families apart, and that’s not who we are, that’s not what America is about. So what I’ve proposed… is you say we’re going to bring these folks out of the shadows. We’re going to make them pay a fine, they are going to have to learn English, they are going to have to go to the back of the line…but they will have a pathway to citizenship over the course of 10 years.” (Obama – http://www.usamnesty.org/)

President Obama has knowingly converted the National Mall (owned by We the People) to his personal use. That is a crime punishable by a fine and/or up to ten years imprisonment.

18 USC § 641 – Public money, property or records

Whoever embezzles, steals, purloins, or knowingly converts to his use or the use of another, or without authority, sells, conveys or disposes of any record, voucher, money, or thing of value of the United States or of any department or agency thereof, or any property made or being made under contract for the United States or any department or agency thereof; or Whoever receives, conceals, or retains the same with intent to convert it to his use or gain, knowing it to have been embezzled, stolen, purloined or converted— (http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18/641).

If the President breaks a law, abuses his power, violates the public trust and/or employs the power of his office for an improper purpose or for personal gain, he commits an impeachable offense.

Article 2 Section 4 addresses impeachment. “The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.”

“High Crimes and Misdemeanors” are:

1. Real criminality — breaking a law
2. Abuses of power
3. Violation of public trust — defined by Alexander Hamilton in the Federalist Papers
4. Behavior grossly incompatible with the proper function and purpose of the office
5. Employing the power of the office for an improper purpose or for personal gain — personal gain does not have to be material or monetary

This is not the kind of CHANGE I CAN BELIEVE IN!

American student punished for refusing to recite Mexican pledge

http://radio.foxnews.com/toddstarnes/top-stories/american-student-punished-for-refusing-to-recite-mexican-pledge.html

The Thomas More Law Center HAS filed the suit on behalf of Texas high school student, Brenda Brinsdon, alleging the McAllen Independent School District violated the 15-year-old girl’s constitutional rights when she was forced to recite the Mexican pledge and sing the Mexican national anthem. Brinsdon, who is the daughter of a Mexican immigrant and an American father, refused. She believed it was un-American to pledge a loyalty oath to another country. Ironically, the school district has a policy that prohibits a school from compelling students to recite either the American Pledge of Allegiance or the Declaration of Independence!

White House sends ominous email to critic

http://www.businessinsider.com/bob-woodward-obama-sequester-white-house-reporting-price-politics-2013-2

Early today, Bob Woodward (of Watergate and Deep Throat fame) criticized President Obama on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” saying it was a “kind of madness” for Obama to say he wouldn’t deploy an aircraft carrier to the Persian Gulf because of the sequester vote. budget concerns.

He asked if anyone could imagine George W. Bush or Ronald Reagan or “even Bill Clinton” saying they would not attend to our national defense because they’re pissed about some budget vote in Congress.

This evening, Woodward appeared on CNN saying that a “very senior person” at the White House contacted him after his appearance on “Morning Joe” and said he would “regret doing this.” “It makes me very uncomfortable to have the White House telling reporters, ‘You’re going to regret doing something that you believe in,'” Woodward said.

Obama’s Homeland Security Secretary says illegal aliens released because of budget limitations

http://www.washingtonpost.com/business/apnewsbreak-homeland-security-official-quits-after-illegal-immigrants-freed-over-budget-cuts/2013/02/27/a31e5066-811d-11e2-a671-0307392de8de_story.html

ICE is required by Congress to maintain 34,000 immigration jail beds. As of last week, the agency held an average daily population of 30,733 in its jails. Nevertheless, DHS up and decided several hundred of these “underflow” criminals should be released rather than kept behind bars or shipped back where they came from.

According to the National Immigration Forum, it costs the government about $164 a day to keep an illegal immigrant facing deportation jailed. In a report on immigration detention costs last year, the advocacy group said costs for supervised release can range from about 30 cents to $14 a day.

Barack and Michelle Obama’s Christmas vacay cost taxpayers more than $4 million.

Obama’s Education Secretary lies about teacher layoffs from sequestration

http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/teacher-pink-slips-claim-by-duncan-not-backed-by-evidence/2013/02/27/8a87aa2a-8113-11e2-b99e-6baf4ebe42df_story.html

Arne Duncan claimed on CBS’s “Face the Nation” that there “are literally teachers now who are getting pink slips, who are getting notices that they can’t come back this fall.” The only example he could cite was Kanawha County, West Virginia where officials say that the “transfer notices” (not pink slips) had nothing to do with sequestration or firing. They were sent, as required by law, to about 100 educators who may be moved to a different position next school year, because of a change in the way West Virginia plans to allocate funds for poor children.

  • Getting shot by some leftist freak does not give you moral authority to disarm me.
  • My Constitutional rights don’t go away just because somebody else abuses his. You don’t know this because you are stupid.
  • Gabby Giffords is an expert on gun issues like I’m a doctor because I’ve had surgery. This is a dog and pony show for emotional appeal only.
  • I am amused at the notion that to refuse to submit to Gifford’s views is somehow trashing her. The moral extortion ends now. Deal with it.

Blunt words

  • Guns are the great equalizer during a violent confrontation.

Times are hard

  • The fact that America is a nation of immigrants is literally irrelevant to the debate over what to do about illegal immigration.
  • I’m really not interested in the opinions of any politicians from non-border states on illegal immigration.

Conversing with Obama

  • John Kerry was on the side of the communists in Vietnam and El Salvador. He should not be our Secretary of State.

You NEED to SEE this!

This is not Tinfoil Hat conspiracy theory stuff or Right Wingnut agitprop.

The videos are from a July 27, 2012 press conference sponsored by a United States Senator and made by sworn federal agents.

In short … the Obama Administration has ORDERED immigration officers to RELEASE illegal aliens if they simply SAY “I have a GED” or “I am a DREAMer.” This includes child molesters, rapists, drug dealers … you name it. If someone is a citizen, they get prosecuted. If they’re ILLEGALS, they get RELEASED.

Please. Watch. Listen. Link. Forward.

Americans need to understand what this administration is really doing!

BHO cuts AZ from the herd

Click on graphics to embiggen.

The Obama Administration has been spinning the Arizona SCOTUS case as a question of state vs. federal jurisdictions. But clearly it was never anything of the kind. Arizona never tried to make any state laws that contradicted federal laws. They tried to make state laws that would allow them to enforce federal laws that federal officials were not enforcing.

Now that the Supreme Court has unanimously supported Arizona’s right to do this, the Obama administration is doubling down on the whole not-enforcing-the-law thing. Basically, it’s a giant neener neener from the Obama White House to the Supreme Court, the governor, legislators and citizens of Arizona, all of whom overwhelming supported the law.

The Obama Administration treats North Korea and Iran better than this.
