2017_09 Amy Barrett

One of Trump’s nominees for appeals court is Amy Coney Barrett, a Notre Dame Law School professor and a Roman Catholic. Democrats Feinstein, Hirono, and Durbin made her religious convictions an issue during her confirmation hearing.

Republican Sen. Ben Sasse noted that this line of questioning violated the Constitution’s religious test clause.

Durbin said that, because Barrett has been “outspoken” on the topic of “how a person with strong religious beliefs becomes a judge and looks at American law”, the questions were legitimate.

I think it’s more to the point to say that Democrats can’t stand conservative Christians, especially not the Catholic ones, and that they have zero qualms about making religion an issue when it suits them. You KNOW they’d be screaming bloody murder if Republicans asked a Muslim jurist how his faith would influence his judicial conduct.

Remember when long-time Leftist Sonia Sotomayor said she’d be a good SCOTUS judge, because she was a “wise Latina”?

Obama et al. didn’t care that she had never issued any important decisions, made a name for herself as a legal scholar or particularly respected jurist, and that 60% of her lower court decisions had been overturned on appeal. They only cared that she could be relied on to ignore the law in favor of promoting Progressive causes.

Barrett herself said, “It is never appropriate for a judge to apply their personal convictions, whether it derives from faith or personal conviction. My own personal church affiliation or my religious belief would not bear on the discharge of my duties as a judge.”

Not that they believed her.  Personally, I think they assume everyone is as willing to prostitute themselves for politics as they themselves are.

The Art of the (Backstabbing) Deal

Donald Trump is a businessman, not a politician. That fact, as much as perhaps any other, is why he bested 16 other primary foes and stunned the nation by besting the heir apparent, a sociopathic liar who never met a dollar she didn’t covet. Make no mistake, he is a far, far better alternative to the evil Cankles was prepared to wreak. Still and all, Trump’s forte is making deals. The republicans gave him nothing. He did away with a lot of onerous regulations and the climate change scheme through executive order, but was so eager to appear presidential he’d have signed any legislation they sent him.

They gave him nothing. No border wall funding, no tax cuts, not even the so-called ‘skinny repeal’ of Obamacare. Whether out of spite or cowardice, they have fought him on almost anything. So, Trump decided if they won’t deal with him, the democrats will. And they did. Democrats had absolutely no power to stop anything, and Trump handed them the power to attach amendment to any legislation while denying anything to republicans. DACA will be the first amendment rider with making Obamacare permanent close behind. The dems now have the best of both worlds… they get to have their own way and trash Trump like they always do. Witness the savagery displayed after Sessions announced the ending of the DREAM act, only to have Trump gave Congress 6 months to fondle each other after which he will “revisit” it.

Will Democrats Take ‘Yes’ For An Answer on DACA, or Demagogue Compromises to Protect a Wedge Issue?

Unforgivable: Donald Trump just made Chuck Schumer POTUS
The president’s total capitulation occurred in a Wednesday meeting with congressional leaders from both parties. Earlier, Minority Leaders Pelosi and Schumer proposed a plan to tie Hurricane Harvey relief to a short-term debt ceiling increase until mid-December. President Trump agreed to support the Democratic plan. To make matters even worse, the president said Wednesday that his administration will always “automatically” agree on increasing the debt ceiling.

YOU CAN KISS THE 15% CORPORATE TAX RATE GOODBYE. DEMOCRATS WANT NO PART OF IT AND THE REPUBLICANS CAN NO LONGER DO ANYTHING.

GOP leaders ‘shocked’ following Trump deal with Democrats
Several Republicans briefed on the meeting said that Trump, who has been absent a major legislative achievement for his first seven months in office, was hungry for a deal.
“The President was in deal-cutting mode,” a Republican familiar with the meeting told CNN. “He was sick of this fight.”

TRUMP Goes Around Do-Nothing Republican Leaders and Strikes Debt Limit Deal with Pelosi-Schumer
During a meeting with congressional leaders at the White House, Trump surprised his GOP colleagues when he granted Democrats’ request that Republicans pass a Hurricane Harvey relief package with a three-month debt increase. Top White House officials and GOP leaders had spent the past few days urging Republicans to raise the debt ceiling through the 2018 midterm election.

How Trump Caved To Dems Over Debt Ceiling, Govt. Funding
“We had a very good meeting with Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer. We agreed to a three-month extension on debt ceiling, which they consider to be sacred — very important — always we’ll agree on debt ceiling automatically because of the importance of it,” Trump told reporters Wednesday aboard Air Force One.

Trump’s Deal with Democrats Is a Warning to Republicans — Establishment and Conservative Alike
The deal is a warning to Republicans — primarily to the party establishment, which has fought Trump at every turn, but also to conservative Republicans, who have long worried about Trump shifting leftwards.
By working with Democrats, Trump can bypass the Republican leadership, GOP moderates, and personal foes like Sen. John McCain (R-AZ). However, it also means that he can cobble deals together between liberal Republicans and the Democrat minority, leaving conservatives out in the cold.

Ivanka Trump Pitches Conservative Leaders on Doubling Child Tax Credit
Trump did not provide numbers on what the policy would cost overall, or whether it would apply to all taxpayers or just those who are below a certain income bracket. The initiative is one previously alluded to in an April White House document that outlined the administration’s vision for tax reform. Part of the appeal of the tax credit is that it benefits regular working families, according to meeting attendees who spoke to Politico.

More stuff

I was adding extras to Pete’s post, but it got so it was taking too long to refresh, so here’s the rest.

After Trump announced he would donate $1 million of his own money to hurricane relief, Trump haters griped that it was “chump change” and why did he have to make it all about him and was he really going to do it at all?

After the White House issued a written statement detailing the twelve organizations he and Melania had chosen, Trump haters griped that it was “a lot of religious (and only Christian) groups” and “they just want to make [us] call 12 different places to confirm the donations” and, again, “so what, he’s a billionaire.”

I’m kinda wondering how many of these jerks have donated anything. Also, how many non-Christian groups are out there providing aid? Muslim groups? Progressive groups? Black Lives Matters? Antifa? Hello? Anybody?

Solar Flares Coming Our Way

This from Alert Reader ZMalfoy: “There are 3 Coronal Mass Ejections heading our way, the first to impact this evening. None are “kill shots”, but the effect of three big ‘uns so close together could cause electrical grid disruptions (in addition to various health issues and boosting the power of current storms). Like getting shot with a smaller caliber bullet, one might not do you in, but three close together can do serious damage. This info is from guys whom I have monitored for years, and they never panic, never spread rumors. They are calm and solid, and they’re a bit concerned, like . . . 10% concerned.”

Obama’s Shrinking Legacy

Former President Obama famously sneered at Congress’ right to create laws, stating that he had “a pen and a phone” and would make whatever laws he wanted. But what has been done with a pen and a phone can be undone with a pen and a phone, something now President Trump has been doing with great regularity.

2017_09 Obama's shrinking legacy

  • Last week, a District Court Judge ruled that Obama’s Labor Department had no right to change the law about overtime. This week, Trump’s Justice Department formally ended Obama’s rule by announcing it would not appeal the District Court ruling.
  • President Trump issued an executive order ending President Obama’s DACA executive order. DACA, which stands for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, was created by President Obama’s unilateral decision to grant work permits to and shield from deportation those who were brought here illegally as children.

The U.S. presidency was never intended to be a one-man dictatorship. People who support the overtime change and/or DACA should be screaming at their representatives in Congress to pass these as laws the right way, not at President Trump for undoing what Obama did illegally.

Civil Rights: Persons vs. Property

CIVIL RIGHTS unborn babies

Planned Parenthood head, Cecile Richards, says every person has the right to live. This may seem to be an odd statement given that PP kills more than 300,000 unborn babies a year.

The key point to understand here is that Richards doesn’t believe unborn babies deserve to be called “persons.” Science says they are alive and human, but they are classified under the law as PROPERTY.

Legal abortion is the ONLY so-called civil rights issue where a group of living, human Americans moved from being defined and protected as PERSONS under the law to being defined and disposable as PROPERTY under the law.

Slaves and women went the other way. Those were true civil rights advances. Legal abortion is not.

Four Minutes to Destiny

While doing research for today’s screeds, I came across a tidbit that said in the event that little pig in North Korea launched a missile, the president would have approximately four minutes to decide whether it was a nuclear device and what to do about it. We all know what Obama would have done… go on vacation somewhere. Trump has largely been a disappointment, allowing one adviser after another lead him in different directions. His vacillating on a promise to deport illegals of all ages may be due to Javanka having his ear. In any case, I think he’s smart enough to leave the military decisions to the professionals, something that Barry never would have done, seeing how he’s the smartest man who ever lived and all.

The United Nations wants to do what they always do in a crisis… blame Israel and grab US taxpayer money. The resolutions they churn out are as useless as tits on a boar hog, as my grandfather used to say. W wasted 14 long months getting resolution after resolution from the UN, just to try to satisfy the democrats, which is always a fool’s errand. Saddam must have thought we were a bunch of fools as he hid his chemical weapons and military ordnance in Syria before we finally took decisive action.

My fear is that Kim Jong Un cares nothing about the consequences of an attack on Guam, Japan, or mainland USA. He’s like a modern day Caligula, having absolute power of life and death over an entire country. He allows people to starve while he hoards a massive food supply for himself and the army that keeps him in power. He has built a system of hardened shelters deep underground and could survive for a very long time if he had to. This clown is famous for killing his own family, what does he care about millions of innocent people?

Emergency Security Council Meeting Called

The latest test, which nuclear weapon experts estimated was seven times more powerful than the bomb the U.S. dropped on Hiroshima, Japan in 1945, was condemned by Secretary General Antonio Guterres, who called the act a “serious breach” of the country’s international obligations.

North Korea Nuclear Progress Puts Iran on Renewed Pathway to Bomb

Sources told the Washington Free Beacon that Pyongyang continues to stockpile illicit nuclear material on Iran’s behalf in order to help the Islamic Republic skirt restrictions implemented under the landmark nuclear deal

North Korea’s latest nuclear test of a hydrogen bomb has roiled Trump administration officials and led President Donald Trump to consider multiple options for war. However, it also has renewed fears among U.S. officials and foreign policy insiders about Pyongyang’s long-standing relationship with Iran, which centers on providing the Islamic Republic with nuclear technology and know-how.

The Best Laid Plans

The original plan for today was to concentrate on the looming threat posed by that fat little brat in NoKo who would be simply pathetic if it were not for the fact he is so dangerous. I still plan to do it, but first things first.

When AG Sessions announced that Obama’s executive order illegally creating DACA was going to be undone by Trump, the reaction was predictable, as it always is when the left doesn’t get their way 100% of the time. It would be a monumental waste of time to post even a smidgen of the wailing from media whores, bloated political layabouts, and glitterati who think their opinion is so much more important than yours, and you need to pay attention because they’re really, really smart.

It is obvious that the alternative to President Trump that we were faced with would be far, far worse, but damn, he is frustrating the hell out of us. He would sign ANY legislation Congress sent him, just to say he did it. The lazy bastards in the GOP are in no hurry to do anything they could be called on and their friends the democrats aren’t about to help.

This really pissed me off:

Trump Explicitly Calls For Amnesty, Says He Might ‘Revisit’ DACA Decision

HE SAID, ESSENTIALLY, SIT ON YOUR ASSES FOR 6 MONTHS AND I’LL REINSTATE DACA. A REAL NO-BRAINER FOR THE DO-NOTHINGS.

“Congress now has 6 months to legalize DACA (something the Obama Administration was unable to do),” Trump tweeted. “If they can’t, I will revisit this issue!”

“Congress now has the opportunity to advance responsible immigration reform that puts American jobs and American security first,” Trump said in a statement following Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ announcement about the rescinding of DACA. Trump’s call for a legislative amnesty is a departure from his campaign rhetoric in which he said there would be “no amnesty.”

Trump to Congress: Legalize DACA (or I Will Revisit)

But by late Tuesday, Trump appeared to have turned into a paper tiger on the key campaign promise to get rid of DACA, saying he would “revisit this issue” if Congress did not “legalize DACA.”

It is unlikely that Trump’s “America First” base, which supported Trump in part because of his focus on illegal immigration, will be satisfied with anything approaching a repeat of DACA — either by Congress or presidential pen.

Perhaps sensing a possible cave, conservative commentator Ann Coulter tweeted before the announcement that millions of voters “not only won’t vote for [Trump] again, but will never vote Republican again if they pass this DACA amnesty.”
