Hits and Misses

Which are hits and which are misses? That’s up to you to decide.
Opinion: Ginsburg gambled to stay and now she may lose her legacy
They gambled that Hillary would be choosing judges for the next 8 years. Quelle surprise!

The confirmation of Neil Gorsuch to the United States Supreme Court represents a huge political victory for Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who gambled on blocking the nomination of Merrick Garland in the hopes of a GOP electoral victory.

It may also have been an equally huge loss for the of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who ignored increasing calls for her retirement during the Obama administration to avoid the prospect of the flipping of her seat from a liberal to a conservative member. That gamble — whatever calculation — could now cost a sweeping number of key cases hanging by a 5-4 margin, including much of the precedent built around Roe v. Wade, if not an outright overturning of that decision.

CNN Panel Gets Schooled On ‘Golf Diplomacy’

“Always play with leaders of countries and people that can help us,” the clip continued. “Don’t play with your friends all the time.”
The clip’s message seemed to fall on deaf ears, as host John King, Nia-Malika Henderson and Sara Murray spent the next few minutes laughing and taking shots at the President for what they viewed as hypocrisy.
YET, THEY WERE FINE WITH OBOZO GOLFING OVER 300 TIMES

Texas voter ID law was designed to discriminate against minorities, judge rules
THE FIX WAS IN… CHECK THIS OUT
GUESS WHO PUT THIS LATINA ON THE BENCH IN 2011?

The latest ruling by U.S. District Judge Nelva Gonzales Ramos of Corpus Christi comes more than two years after she likened Texas’s voter ID rules, known as SB 14, to a “poll tax” meant to suppress minority voters. On Monday, she reaffirmed that conclusion after an appeals court asked her to reexamine her findings.

The Texas law requires voters to show one of seven forms of identification at the ballot box. The list includes concealed-handgun licenses but not college student IDs, and Texas was forced under court order last year to weaken the law for the November elections.

Doctor dragged off flight was convicted of trading drugs for sex
Dr. David Dao, 69, who was captured in a now-viral video being forcibly dragged off the Louisville-bound flight at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport on Sunday, was working as a doctor specializing in pulmonary disease in Elizabethtown when he was convicted of trading prescription drugs for sexual favors.
The board’s probe into the criminal charges found that Dao became sexually interested in a male patient, Brian Case, whom he gave a physical examination to, including a genital examination, and whom he eventually made his office manager.
The Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure permitted Dao to continue practicing medicine in 2015 under certain conditions, after he completed his probation and underwent psychological evaluations, the Louisville Courier-Journal reported.

Making a real splash! 20,000 lesbians come out to party in Palm Springs for an annual weekend of fun in the sun at the world’s biggest all-female festival
Summer came early for the lesbian community, who flooded Southern California to soak up some rays at an annual five-day festival in Palm Springs that is entirely dedicated to lesbian women, and cultural appreciation.

Rapper allegedly gorges on $600 seafood meal on Gold Coast then swims off to avoid paying

A WANNABE rapper who allegedly downed plates of expensive seafood before jumping into the ocean at Main Beach has said he ‘wouldn’t go back’ to the restaurant because the lobster was ‘overpriced’.

Terry Peck, 33, was today granted bail after he allegedly chowed down on two lobsters, a baby octopus, 21 oyster shots and drank a number of Coronas at Omeros Bros Seafood Restaurant at Main Beach on Sunday evening to the tune of $620 before fleeing the restaurant.

You’ve got to be kidding! Foodies recommend swapping lamb for roast GOAT this Easter, saying the newly fashionable meat is tastier and healthier
Goat farmers say they have seen a 30-fold increase in demand for the meat
Animal is roasted in a similar way to lamb, but enthusiasts say it is tastier
But at £25 per kilogram, it is more expensive than top-of-the-range lamb

Some people enjoy leg of lamb for Easter. For us, it’s spiral sliced, honey-maple ham with gooey glaze, taters, DW’s corn casserole, and rolls. I think dessert this year is going to be jello cake.

LaVar Ball: ‘Slow white guys’ kept UCLA from winning title, Lonzo played hurt in loss

Have you heard of this clown? He has a son that played a year for UCLA. He’ll likely be drafted by somebody in the NBA. He has two brothers in high school and a real piece of work named Lavar for a dad (along with the required white woman, of course). His dad played a year or two of basketball and now deems himself to be the patriarch of a budding dynasty. He’s pitching a deal with Nike shoes for all 3 of his kids to the tune of $1 BILLION dollars. You read that right. He plans to act as his kids’ agent to negotiate his contract. He insisted on sitting on the bench for every game and making a blue ribbon ass of himself.

Connecticut HS Allows Boy To Run On Female Track Team: ‘I Do Hope I Inspire People’

Coaches at Cromwell High School are thrilled with freshman Andraya Yearwood, whose speed compared to biological girls makes the student a star.

Andraya clocked times of 11.99 seconds and 26.34 seconds in the 100- and 200-meter dashes, respectively, during the first meet of the season. Both times resulted in a first-place win.

“I have a spectacular female athlete,” coach Brian Calhoun told the Hartford Courant. “There’s nothing more to say. To approach it in any other way might create some sort of issue or conversation.”

Researcher: Teachers Should Allow Ebonics Because English Grammar Is Too Hard For Minorities To Learn

MRS. CLEAVER: ‘ I SPEAK JIVE’
To avoid any hurt feelings some people may feel by attempting to speak standard, correct English, Gallagher wants to eradicate the stigma associated with Ebonics — or African–American Vernacular English, a nonstandard dialect of English spoken by some black people.

“I want to center the voices of the people who need to be centered,” Gallagher, a participant in the UW-Madison writing fellows program, told The Daily Cardinal. “As a white-passing person, I have a lot of power and privilege that should be shared.”

Taxifornia Committing Suicide

Those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it. California has a certifiably insane governor and hordes of clueless nitwits infected by the scourge of liberalism. As Jesus said, “Father, forgive them. They know not what they do.”
They know what they do, they just don’t realize the consequences for their actions… or don’t care. It is unfortunate that the rational people of the state are compelled to suffer along with the young and the feckless.

Taxifornia Does It Again

Taxation: California’s far-left government has done it again. Not realizing its real problems are excessive spending on misplaced priorities, excessive taxes, too much debt and a far-too generous welfare state, its legislature working in cahoots with Gov. Jerry “tax-and-spend” Brown has pushed through the largest tax hike in state history.

In California’s one-party state — everything in the state, everything, is controlled by the Democratic Party and its union allies — the governor and legislature rushed through a massive tax hike on gas and diesel fuel along with higher car registration fees with hardly anyone realizing it.

The state’s already highest-in-the-nation gasoline tax will rise 19.5 cents a gallon, while diesel will go up 20 cents. Meanwhile, car owners will also see their registration fees rise from $25 to $175, depending on vehicle value. Electric car owners get hit with a special $100 tax, since they don’t use gasoline.

All told, the new taxes are expected to collect $5.2 billion a year.

Taxifornia Does It Again

Nearly $1 billion in side deals cemented legislative vote to raise California’s gas tax
“Democrats just gave us the largest gas tax increase in state history — a deal so bad they needed $1 billion in pork to buy the votes to pass it,” said Assembly Republican leader Chad Mayes of Yucca Valley. “California deserves better.”
Similar proposals have languished for years, but Brown and legislative leaders set a quick-turn April 6 deadline for action, hoping to pressure a compromise before the Legislature’s spring break — ahead of big debates to come in 2017 on the state budget and hundreds of bills.
http://www.sfexaminer.com/nearly-1-billion-side-deals-cemented-legislative-vote-raise-californias-gas-tax/

Republican Backed Jerry Brown’s Gas Tax for $400 Million Pork Project

One of the more prominent deals was the one that secured the vote of State Sen. Anthony Canella (R-Ceres), who was the only Republican in either chamber to support the measure, which includes raised fees at the Department of Motor Vehicles.

That side deal turns out to have been the costliest of all, amounting to $400 million in pork for “the extension of the Altamont Corridor Express, a commuter rail line between the Bay Area and Central Valley.”

Canella’s vote was crucial, because moderate State Sen. Steve Glazer (D-Orinda) opposed the gas tax, explaining in a statement published by the East Bay Times that it was unnecessary to raise taxes rather than re-directing spending from the costly high-speed rail project.
There are no moderates in California…they just all come with different price tags

California’s Super-Bloom Endangered by Special Snowflakes

The significant winter rains that California has experienced this year has led Governor Jerry Brown to declare the official drought officially over:

Startlingly green hills, surging rivers and the snow-wrapped Sierra Nevada had already signaled what Gov. Jerry Brown made official Friday: The long California drought is over.

However, the state’s nature lovers are failing to follow some common sense rules related to enjoying the beauty and are trampling over the delicate flowers they have flocked to admire.

One of the most spectacular areas is the Wildflower Trail at Diamond Valley Lake, which is a reservoir outside Hemet. A portion of the trail was shut down March 29 and was reopened Wednesday, just five days a week. Extra staff has been added to the area to police visitors, and new signs warn people to stay on the trails.

“It happened sort of suddenly, people started disregarding the rules and trail guides,” Picht told the Los Angeles Times. “You can’t really blame them, but at the same time, we couldn’t allow that.”

In other words, these special snowflakes are killing the flowers.

The Passing of an Original

One of the aspects of growing old,I’ve found,is that you can get away with being sarcastic to people and they think you’re kidding.Frank Sinatra discovered Don Rickles while he was doing comedy in night clubs, trying to finance a career as a serious actor. What evolved was a comic, legendary for his sharp-witted barbs at people in the audience. It was all in good fun and no one was offended. He didn’t care about your race, ethnicity or who your daddy was.He made millions doing his act in Las Vegas where patrons all hoped he would pick on them.
He was a regular on the Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts. This was during a time when comedy did not have to depend on toilet humor and sexual innuendo. They were just howlingly funny. One of his favorites was Ronald Reagan…before and after he became president.

Don Rickles: Performing for President Reagan Was the ‘Highlight of My Life’
Comedian Don Rickles, who passed away Thursday at age 90, in May of 2014 told David Letterman, on the Late Show, that “the highlight of my life was doing the Ronald Reagan Inaugural.”

As Ronald and Nancy Reagan sat in the front row, he concluded his five-minute set by praising President Reagan: “You’re a great gentleman and a great credit to the country.” The same could be said about Rickles.

Jimmy Kimmel’s Tribute to Don Rickles

Don Rickles – Some of my favorite Don Rickles moments

I can just see Rickles doing his schtick for Saint Peter:
Hiya,Saint;I’ve been dying to get in here,so here I am!
Nice sandals….Payless or Walmart?
Here I am surrounded by Jews.Which one owns the pawn shop?
I didn’t have change coming through the Pearly Gates…I’ll have to owe you.

It’s early…that’s all I can come up with on short notice.

The Left Scores Again

Two days ago: Nunes: ‘I will NOT recuse myself.’
Rep. Devin Nunes Steps Aside From Russia Probe
It’s what the left does, yell and scream that impropriety when they are the ones being improper.

After a number of ethics complaints, Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., announced today that he will step aside from leading the House Intelligence Committee’s probe into alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

“Several left-wing activist groups have filed accusations against me with the Office of Congressional Ethics. The charges are entirely false and politically motivated, and are being leveled just as the American people are beginning to learn the truth about the improper unmasking of the identities of U.S. citizens and other abuses of power,” Nunes said in a statement released this morning.

“Despite the baselessness of the charges, I believe it is in the best interests of the House Intelligence Committee and the Congress for me to have Representative Mike Conaway, with assistance from Representatives Trey Gowdy and Tom Rooney, temporarily take charge of the Committee’s Russia investigation while the House Ethics Committee looks into this matter,” he said.

FROM THE COMMENT SECTION:
Devin
We hate Devin
And we’ll shout him down so that he cannot speak
But please don’t think it’s in any way unique
When we stampede media from leak to leak
Devin
We hate Devin
Must remove him ere he finds that which he seeks
So we’ll drown him out with all our outraged shrieks
And stampede the media from leak to leak

FROM BREITBART: MEDIA CLAIMS SCALP

No Sympathy for the Hillbilly

Hillbilly: anyone who lives 100 miles outside an urban toilet.
MSNBC’s Joy Reid Rants: Trump Supporters Racist, Want ‘All Brown People’ Off Obamacare

MSNBC’s Joy Reid blessed the airwaves with two anti-Republican rants in less than 24 hours. She really wanted to make sure everyone was aware that Donald Trump supporters are racist and don’t want black people to be healthy.
“What I think is stunning, Chris, about today is that the Republican party learned absolutely nothing from the election of Donald Trump, including Donald Trump. Donald Trump won in the Rust Belt in those states saying he was going to repeal and replace Obamacare because at the time, we thought he understood that his voters hated the ‘Obama’ but they liked the ‘care.’
Reid continued saying Trump failed to keep up his anti-establishment persona by getting into bed with Paul Ryan and his “life-long dream” of tearing down social safety nets. She said Trump ran on, “I alone can fix this.”
And then, still high from being on her high horse, Reid continued rambling on her morning show on Saturday, AM Joy, and welcomed New York magazine columnist Frank Rich to talk about his article, “No Sympathy for the Hillbilly.” (See the connection?)
“After the election, the Democratic party self-diagnosis produced a number of conclusions to explain what went wrong,” Reid began the segment. “The one you probably hear the most often focuses on Democrats’ lack of empathy and appeal to the white working class voters who propelled Donald Trump to victory in unlikely Rust Belt states like Wisconsin and Michigan and Pennsylvania. And Democratic leaders have been trying to answer the question of how to turn those Republican voters back into Democrats.”

One disability all liberals are afflicted with is the inability to accept reality. From the pseudo-intellectuals fresh from their Ivy League indoctrination center with bachelor’s degree in Women’s Studies, to the multimillionaire high school dropouts in Beverly Hills who get millions from saying lines someone else wrote, they all share the same flawed view of the people who make this country work.
We are taught to obey the law, be good role models for our kids, and never depend on the government for your success.
They tell us we must accept our wives and granddaughters sharing a bathroom with a bearded man with body odor.
Christians student are not allowed to have prayer groups in school, but the two Muslim students get their own prayer room. They whine about us being intolerant.
We watch blacks murder police officers and when one of these jackals pays the price, there are riots, looting, and burning. And we are called racists.
We object to hordes of mostly men flooding across our porous borders to live off taxpayer money, raping, murdering Muslim terrorists among them, others taking jobs to send money back to Spanish-speaking shitholes. And we are called xenophobes.
Their presidential candidate was so arrogant she never bothered visiting ‘safe buffer states’ like Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. When November 8 came around we expressed how WE felt about THEM the only effective way we could. And we did. About 65 million of us.

On Gorsuch and Such… Day Two

The Democrat clown show lasted more than 11 hours yesterday.  As a public service, I’m posting an assembly of short clips of stalwarts such as Feinstein, Franken, Durbin, Coons, and especially Senator Pat “Depends” Leahy. Rush gave him that nickname because the first time he was on the Senate Intelligence Committee (how’s THAT for an oxymoron?), he purposely made Reagan’s plans to attack Libya public. He was removed from his committee assignment then, but as is always the case with pestilence, he returned. Watch the clip of this bald fraud and see if you can tell whether or not he’d been drinking or at least hung over. “Mumbles” would be a more appropriate moniker.

FNN: Sen. Leahy Asks Gorsuch About GOP Treatment of Merrick Garland, Obama’s Supreme Court Pick

They did their best to trap Judge Gorsuch, smear him or sully his record. What was first and foremost, apparently, was that they wanted a promise from him not to try to overturn Roe v. Wade.  Abortion is the sacrament to the religion of Liberalism and must be protected at all costs.  There were light moments ,and you must see what his obituary would be. Any senator who votes against this very good man should be beaten severely with their own bank book.

Timely new tv ad ‘The Ginsburg rule’ destroys Dems about to pound Judge Neil Gorsuch

“Democrats are attacking Judge Neil Gorsuch because he won’t promise to support their political agenda,” a voiceover in the ad begins. Then in a “What’s good for the goose is good for the gander” moment, the ad pivots to the 1993 confirmation hearings of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, during which she refused to answers posed to her by senators — in excess of 70 times.

Her repeated refusal prompted then-Sen. Joe Biden to come to her support.  “You not only have a right to choose what you will answer and not answer, but in my view you should not answer a question of what your view will be,” he told her during the course of the confirmation proceedings.

Gorsuch Makes Minced Meat of Dick Durbin’s Gotcha Attempt

Senators on the Judiciary Committee took turns spending thirty minutes grilling Gorsuch.

When it was Sen. Durbin’s (D-IL) turn to bat, he flamed out. Gloriously.

“Do you believe that there are ever situations where the cost of maternity leave to an employer can justify an employer asking only female applicants and not male applicants about family plans?” Sen. Durbin asked.

To which Gorsuch sternly replied, “Those are not my words and I would never have said them.”

“I didn’t say that,” said Durbin.

“I asked you if you agreed with this statement.”

“And I’m telling you I don’t,” Gorsuch scowled.

Dem Senator Tries, Fails To Pin Down Gorsuch On Hobby Lobby Ruling

The case, which Gorsuch heard as an appeals judge and which was later heard by the Supreme Court, asked if for-profit corporations could bring claims under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA).  In this instance, the owners of Hobby Lobby said they had a religious objection to providing certain forms of contraception to their employees. Gorsuch ruled in favor of Hobby Lobby, attracting criticism from Coons.

WATCH:

Coons asked Gorsuch why he ruled in favor of allowing for-profit corporations to bring claims under the RFRA.

Gorsuch responded that the law as drafted did not distinguish between natural persons and corporations, and that corporate personhood was a well-established principle of law. He further explained that the government conceded in that case that a non-profit corporation could bring a RFRA claim.

Coons rebutted that it was a “big leap” to take those facts and apply them to for-profit corporations.

“The position you’re advocating is a fine position,” Gorsuch responded. “It’s a respectable position. It’s a good position. It was adopted by precisely two justices of the Supreme Court.”

Gorsuch was referring to the Supreme Court’s ruling in the Hobby Lobby case. Two of the four dissenters in the case, Justices Stephen Breyer and Elena Kagan, declined to join the portion of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s opinion, which held for-profit corporations or their owners cannot bring claims under the RFRA.  Only Ginsburg and Justice Sonia Sotomayor have taken the position RFRA doesn’t apply to corporate entities.

Coons then pivoted away from Hobby Lobby and asked generally about judicial deference to the beliefs of religious objectors.

Ted Cruz and Neil Gorsuch on “the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything”

What Gorsuch Would Want In His Obituary

The 49-year-old jurist then produced an at-times emotional two-minute monologue of what he would like his obituary to to be. It’s an assignment he gives his students at the end of each semester, Gorsuch told Sasse.

“They hate it. They think it’s corny. Well, it might be a little corny,” Gorsuch said with a hint of self-deprecation.

He continued:

“And people want to be remembered for the kindnesses they showed other people, by and large. What I try to point out is, it’s not how big your bank account balance is, nobody ever puts that in their draft obituary, or that they billed the most hours, or that they won the most cases. It’s how they treated other people along the way. And for me, it’s the words I read yesterday from Increase Sumner’s tombstone. And that means as a person, I’d like to be remembered as a good dad, a good husband, kind and mild in private life, dignified and firm in public life. And I have no illusions that I’ll be remembered for very long. If Byron White is as nearly forgotten as he is now, as he said he would be, I have no illusions, I won’t last five minutes; that’s as it should be. The great joy in life, Shaw said, is devoting yourself to a cause you deem mighty before you are thrown on the scrap heap. An independent judiciary in this country, I can carry that baton for as long as I can carry it, and I have no illusions I’m going to last as long as you suggest, and that’ll be good enough for me.”

Owning a cat won’t make you mentally ill, study says

ATTENTION BLUEBIRD
Cats are a primary host of Toxoplasma Gondii (T. Gondii), which is associated with mental health conditions like schizophrenia. That link led researchers to believe raising children in a household with cats could lead to later development of mental illness.
“The message for cat owners is clear: there is no evidence that cats pose a risk to children’s mental health,” Dr. Francesca Solmi, the study’s lead author, said in a news release. “In our study, initial unadjusted analyses suggested a small link between cat ownership and psychotic symptoms at age 13, but this turned out to be due to other factors.”
