A little of this,a little of that. Some of the usual political stuff and some good things thrown in to make the mix more palatable. Getting a late start,so bear with me. It’s been a long week.

THERMAL THURSDAY
Delivered my papers amid swirling snowflakes this morning. It’s 25 degrees. My sister lives in Phoenix. She has a habit of calling at Christmas to send her best wishes. Then she brags that it’s 80,sunny,her DH has the grill going and they just got out of their pool. I hate her.

I’M NOT READY FOR WINTER YET!
I left the house for work at 1:30 AM. It was 28 degrees. We don’t have the snow yet,but it’s coming. At least now I drive my own car, which has a decent heater in it. Before I retired,I drove a route truck and cold weather was miserable, especially when the truck had a diesel engine that was prone to gelling up. We had no real summer to speak of,with temperatures getting down to the 40’s many nights and the days getting to maybe 70 or so. The public pools and the water theme park here suffered the most.
All that’s left to do now is hunker down and prepare for the holidays and the bleak landscape we’ll be looking at afterward until at least late April. My gas bill is starting to go up and my electric bill hasn’t gone down much even though we hardly used the central air. This is all part of King Barack I’s scheme to necessarily skyrocket energy prices.
Speaking of which, the miserable prick cut a phony climate deal with the Chinese strongman to inflict even more pain on the American people for no reason other than he wants to. I have a link to it,so I won’t lay it all out here.

MY 1000TH POST!!
February 24,2011. A date that will live in internet infamy. It’s been a long, sometimes difficult, sometimes joyful road. This blog has been my link to the outside world since I don’t have much contact with anyone aside from my family. I have the time to research and post volumes of information and I enjoy doing it. You all are the best friends I’ll never meet. Lord willing,we’ll all be together for a long time to come. God bless all of you who stop by here.

IN HONOR AND REMEMBRANCE OF OUR VETERANS
Much is written on this day about remembering and honoring those who are wearing or have worn the uniform by people much smarter and more gifted than I. My feeling is that we should honor those with the sense of devotion to duty that defend our freedoms every day. 99% of us will never have to endure the hardships and privations they do and for that we should be humble and grateful.
I had to do a separate post for this solemn commemoration.I could not sully their service by including it with the dreck I post from the cesspool of politics every day.
On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, was declared between the Allied nations and Germany in the First World War, then known as “the Great War.” Commemorated as Armistice Day beginning the following year, November 11th became a legal federal holiday in the United States in 1938. In the aftermath of World War II and the Korean War, Armistice Day became Veterans Day, a holiday dedicated to American veterans of all wars.
Veterans Day: Let’s thank our veterans by standing with their families

Over the past several years, over 2 million veterans from the post-9/11 generation have returned to civilian life and our communities. Many faced the immense stress of combat in Afghanistan and Iraq. Our nation owes them enormous gratitude, which we must demonstrate in far more than words or symbols. Our veterans deserve the opportunity for personal and professional success long after their military service.

Happy Veteran’s Day: Sacrifice and Courage in Our Veterans’ Own Words
Every November 11, Americans observe Veterans Day by honoring the sacrifices and courage of the U.S. Armed Forces.
For veterans themselves, this day takes on an even more special significance.
On October 28 and 29, Washington Free Beacon outreach coordinator Rae-Lynn Ziegler spoke to veterans of foreign wars visiting Washington on Honor Flights, asking for their reflections on the day, how their military service has affected their lives and the legacy they hope to leave for future generations.
Free Meals and Deals to Vets, Military on Veterans Day: The List
We patronize some of these businesses;we will do business with more.
Dozens of businesses are offering free services and reduced prices to veterans on Veterans Day, Tuesday, Nov. 11, and, in some cases, beyond. Some require a military ID. The list is not comprehensive.

In Flanders Fields
by John McCrae, May 1915
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
A HISTORY OF VETERANS DAY FROM HISTORY.COM
The Great War & Armistice Day
Though the Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28, 1919, November 11 remained in the public imagination as the date that marked the end of the Great War. In November 1918, U.S. President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed November 11 as the first commemoration of Armistice Day. The day’s observation included parades and public gatherings, as well as a brief pause in business activities at 11 a.m. On November 11, 1921, an unidentified American soldier killed in the war was buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C.; the U.S. Congress had declared the day a legal federal holiday in honor of all those who participated in the war. On the same day, unidentified soldiers were laid to rest at Westminster Abbey in London and at the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.

Why pronouns matter on Veterans Day
We can agree to disagree about why, when, where and how to use the U.S. military.
But we all should agree about the fundamental flaw of this sentence: “We should fight the Islamic State.”
We?
How about they?
How about remembering that on this Veterans Day or any other day, when we send them into harm’s way, they are the Americans at fatal risk.
That’s “they” as in the brave men and women of our Army, Marines, Air Force, Navy and Coast Guard, and yes, our National Guard.

MONDAY MORNING MISERY
As a long-suffering Bears fan, what the Packers did to them last night is reminiscient of what the GOP did to the libs last Tuesday. With the score 42-0 at halftime it was all over but the bloodletting.

THE SATURDAY MORNING POST
DW was home yesterday for the first time in nearly a week. So,of course, she and her BFF are going shoe-shopping today. So here I am. Barry is on TV announcing Loretta Lynch as his choice to replace Holder-Himmler. I’m including a link about her background. She seems better than racist-boy,but anybody Jughead nominates for anything is highly suspect. She’s probably a white-hating bigot whose job description is to go after Barry’s critics. We’ll have to wait and see what happens. Meanwhile I have Daniel Boone on ME TV in the background. Thank goodness for cable.

THE GRUMPY CAT CHRISTMAS MOVIE
Everybody’s favorite CWABA (cat with a bad attitude) is starring in her first movie called (what else) ‘Grumpy Cat in The Worst Christmas Ever. It is set to premiere Saturday,Nov. 29 at 8PM on the Lifetime channel. Whoever owns that feline has made a fortune off her. Still,Mindful is a Grump-o-phile so I thought I’d post this.
Grumpy Cat features in meme-stuffed Christmas movie
The internet-famous Grumpy Cat becomes an uppity friend on whom we can depend in “Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever.”
With its lead’s voice provided by Aubrey Plaza (“Parks & Recreation”), the Grumpy Cat film makes a feature out of an internet meme that began in 2012, starring the grouchiest-looking cat of them all.
Produced by the Lifetime TV channel (“Project Runway,” “On the Road with Austin & Santino”), “Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever” was co-written by “Spongebob SquarePants” writer Tim Hill and relative newcomer Jeff Morris.

FRIDAY FREE-FOR-ALL
First, thoughts and prayers to our dear friend and bestest buddy Chrissy for her and her family. Hopefully they’re enjoying some quality time together.
Yesterday was the fastest two-hour lunch I ever had. There’s just so much we don’t know about each other. We’re meeting again next Friday for supper and she asked me to invite DW. It’s still a little early to to try to get close to my grandson, but there’s time. Besides selling insurance she’s also a Zumba instructor and is always ‘cleansing.’ You know,gluten-free and all that. GP would like her.
I DON’T THINK SHE CAN DO MUCH WITH THIS

I CAN’T BELIEVE I WASTED SO MUCH TIME NOT KNOWING THESE TWO

REID’S OFFICE BLAMED THE BLOODBATH ON BARRY. THE KING DOESN’T TAKE KINDLY TO CRITICISM.

A VERY SPECIAL LUNCH DATE
Starting this post a little early and I’ll have to cut it short. I’m asking Grunt and Mindful,my new running buddies, to pitch in and help out. I have a very special luncheon today.
You all know about DD, RJ Pistol’s mom and her family. What you probably didn’t know is I have another daughter. Growing up I wasn’t a very good father and that’s something I’ll pay for as long as I live. The problem is she’s as stubborn as I am and neither one of us would budge.
Recall me telling you about the bonfire at DD’s about three weeks ago. She called and said my other daughter might be there with her new boyfriend. Aside from a few words with her at DD’s second wedding I hadn’t seen or spoken to her in almost 20 years. It’s way too long a story. Anyway, she was there and I had a chance to talk to her for about 20 minutes.
She seemed receptive to re-establishing contact,so I told her I’d call her to get together for lunch. She’d finally accepted my friend request on FB and I’ve enjoyed watching her posts. She’s a mom and a career woman.
She said when you get right down to it all you have is family. There’s so much I want to tell her about who I really am,where she came from, her grandma and great-grandparents,family she’s never heard about. It’s very important to me because given my health I don’t think I have a lot of time left.
THESE ARE MY GIRLS; I DON’T DESERVE EITHER ONE OF THEM.

THIS IS ALISHA AT 260 POUNDS

THIS IS HER NOW; SHE’S LOST 125 POUNDS THROUGH EXERCISE AND EATING HEALTHY

THIS IS MY GRANDSON,TYLER. HE’S SIX. UP UNTIL THREE WEEKS AGO I’D NEVER LAID EYES ON HIM.

I’ll carry this with me for whatever time I have left. I wasn’t even invited to her wedding. Hopefully I can change some of that.
