All eyes on Sen. Hatch as he weighs reelection bid
The political spotlight is shifting to longtime Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) as he considers whether to run for reelection in 2018. They have showered praise on the powerful Senate Finance Committee chairman for helping to shepherd the GOP’s tax overhaul through the upper chamber.
Much of the intrigue surrounding Hatch’s decision is centered on Mitt Romney, who reportedly plans to run for the seat if Hatch retires. If Hatch retires, Romney would become the immediate front-runner and would be expected to clear the field for the seat.
Trump and Romney have had a contentious relationship over the years. Romney waged a public campaign to stop Trump’s nomination in 2016. In one speech, he called Trump a “phony” and a “fraud.” More recently, Romney denounced failed Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore hours after Trump endorsed him.
Asked earlier this month whether he was trying to prevent Romney from filling Hatch’s seat, Trump dodged the question. “He’s a good man. Mitt’s a good man,” he said.

This Act shall not be construed to affect the citizenship or nationality status of any person born before the date of its enactment.
White House to remove historic Jackson Magnolia
The Jackson Magnolia that’s been in place behind the White House since the 1800s will be cut down, according to a report.
“The overall architecture and structure of the tree is greatly compromised and the tree is completely dependent on the artificial support,” documents obtained by the cable news outlet read. “Without the extensive cabling system, the tree would have fallen years ago.
The historic tree was planted after Andrew Jackson’s inauguration in 1829. Jackson’s wife, Rachel, died after he was elected in 1828, and according to CNN, the former president wanted to plant a sprout from his wife’s favorite magnolia tree from their farm in Tennessee.
Former first lady Michelle Obama took a seedling from the iconic tree in 2009 and brought it to the Department of Agriculture, where it could grow at the agency’s garden, and former President Barack Obama gifted a seedling from the tree to the people of Cuba in 2016.
Though the tree will be removed, another Jackson Magnolia will reportedly be planted there.

A Christmas toy giveaway in Detroit, Michigan, devolved into a massive brawl Saturday night, leading to the arrest of one woman, police said.

Comatose woman unexpectedly awakens in time for Christmas, asks for water

We are decorated and excited to be hosting Daughter #2 (aka, Army Princess), with Hubby, Son, Daughter, and Grandchild #7 who is still in the oven.
Daughter #3 (aka, Warrior Princess) is snowed in at the moment, but if the plows get out and they don’t get any more, she’s bringing Grandchild #6 to celebrate Our Lord’s birth and the renewal of the #2s wedding vows (10 years! wow!).
The Warriors aren’t military (any more), but Warrior Prince used up his days off on his sister’s nuptials, so he has to miss out. Daughter #1 (aka, Mama Buzz) is trying to be okay with sharing our joyful time via technology. My phone had 81 texts on it today! LOL Daddy Buzz is active duty and, unlike Army Prince and Army Princess, was not able to get enough time off to make the trip. This evening, Mama and Bunny did Mother-Daughter Christmas manicures. 🙂

A glimpse of President Trump’s modus operandi is afforded by his decision to gather the Republican legislators so he could thank them for their role in passing the pro-growth tax cuts that will now going into law with his signature.
Many of the congressmen and women had been working on tax reforms for years.
“I want,” said Mr. Trump, gesturing to the scores who worked on the bill and were gathered on the White House steps, “to have them come up and get the glamor and the glory.”
This generosity of spirit is a feature of Mr. Trump’s leadership that one rarely sees acknowledged in the Democratic Party papers and contrasts with his gruff reputation.
