T-Six Days And Counting

The Republican National Convention is planned to kick off in Cleveland next Monday. Whether or not the #Never Trumpers manage to deny him the nomination on the first ballot remains to be seen. So far, at least one challenge to the convention rules from a Virginia delegate has been rejected:

Court Sides with Donald Trump and the People – Rules Delegates Cannot Go Rogue at Convention

US District court Judge Robert E. Payne sides with the people and and rules RNC delegates must follow the election results and cannot be stolen at the national election. The delegates must vote according to convention rules and cannot go rogue at convention.
Specifically, the Court found that RNC Rule 16, which binds delegates based on their election results, “is in effect presently and that it controls the allocation and binding of delegates as to their voting at convention.” (p. 6) The Court held that the Plaintiff’s “expert testimony” from Erling ‘Curly’ Haugland was not credible, lacked “textual support,” (p.6) and that “delegates are bound by RNC Rule 16.” (p. 7)

‘Never Trump’ Convention Delegates Win In Court

Those Republicans hoping to vanquish Donald Trump from the nomination process on the convention floor next week received good news from a federal court in Virginia Monday.

According to a statement from the organization known as Delegates Unbound, a verdict was reached on the right of delegates to vote for whichever presidential candidate they wish at the convention as opposed to casting their ballots that follow the state primary results.

Judge Robert E. Payne ruled in favor of Virginia Republican delegate Beau Correll, who sued the Commonwealth to allow Virginia delegates at the GOP convention to cast their votes for the candidate of their choice on the first ballot instead of the winner of the Republican state primary, Donald Trump.
SAME DECISION, DIFFERENT OPINIONS ABOUT WHO WON. QUESTION IS: WHO CARES?

There are a number of Republican senators who are throwing a tantrum and will not attend the convention. It won’t make much of a difference either way. The media will surely concentrate on the chaos, real or imagined, inside the building, and ignore what will surely be going on outside. The demons sense they’ve been given the tacit approval of their “messiah,” their hero, their homeboy, to kill, maim, smash, destroy, loot, disrupt, e.g., follow their savage instincts to act like animals.
There were so many incidents over the weekend it would be difficult to document them all, given the assaults and murders of police all over the country. Meanwhile, homey#1 will be in Dallas today, to pretend like he gives two shits about the five police officers who were slaughtered by one of his white-hating disciples.

21 Officers Injured as St. Paul Freeway Protest Turns Violent

Hundreds of demonstrators began protesting at the Governor’s Residence in St. Paul Saturday night over the police-involved shooting death of Philando Castile earlier in the week before heading onto the I-94 freeway around 8 p.m., local Fox affiliate KMSP reported.

The interstate was shut down in both directions for more than five hours and the protests eventually turned violent, with demonstrators hurling bricks, fireworks and at least one Molotov cocktail at officers, according to the St. Paul Police Department.

IL Man Drives Through #BlackLivesMatter Mob Blocking Road – Gives Protester Ride on His Hood
An Illinois driver hurtled through a group of Black Lives Matter protesters who were blocking the highway near Carbondale, Illinois over the weekend.

When the protesters swarmed his car he revved his engine and drove through their roadblock.

In the video, you see the driver stop his vehicle just before the protesters. The driver gets out of his vehicle and shouts at protesters, gets back into his vehicle, revs his engine and then speeds through the group.

Mrs. Rush began receiving checks for “consulting services” in 2008 on top of salary and wages as she pulled in $98,650 from the committee. This amount equated to more than a quarter of the campaign’s total operating expenditures this cycle.

Mrs. Rush’s payments increased again in 2010 to $119,400. She was paid $148,000 in 2012. She took in $66,000 in 2014.

Why Gun Control Can’t Be Solved in the USA

On average, Democrats (that’s my team*) use guns for shooting the innocent. We call that crime.

On average, Republicans use guns for sporting purposes and self-defense.

If you don’t believe me, you can check the statistics on the Internet that don’t exist. At least I couldn’t find any that looked credible. 

But we do know that race and poverty are correlated. And we know that poverty and crime are correlated. And we know that race and political affiliation are correlated. Therefore, my team (Clinton) is more likely to use guns to shoot innocent people, whereas the other team (Trump) is more likely to use guns for sporting and defense.

That’s a gross generalization. Obviously. Your town might be totally different. 

So it seems to me that gun control can’t be solved because Democrats are using guns to kill each other – and want it to stop – whereas Republicans are using guns to defend against Democrats. Psychologically, those are different risk profiles. And you can’t reconcile those interests, except on the margins. For example, both sides might agree that rocket launchers are a step too far. But Democrats are unlikely to talk Republicans out of gun ownership because it comes off as “Put down your gun so I can shoot you.”

Let’s all take a deep breath and shake off the mental discomfort I just induced in half of my readers. You can quibble with my unsupported assumptions about gun use, but keep in mind that my point is about psychology and about big group averages. If Republicans think they need guns to protect against Democrats, that’s their reality. And if Democrats believe guns make the world more dangerous for themselves, that is their reality. And they can both be right. Your risk profile is different from mine.

So let’s stop acting as if there is something like “common sense” gun control to be had if we all act reasonably. That’s not an option in this case because we all have different risk profiles when it comes to guns. My gun probably makes me safer, but perhaps yours makes you less safe. You can’t reconcile those interests.

This Is the Path We Have Chosen

So the media did its job. It gave Trump millions of dollars in free publicity when there was a contest in the primary. We’ve seen this all too often. Media gives the republican they want as an opponent hugs and kisses until it’s time to turn on them and show where their true loyalties lie. McCain was so delusional he thought the presstitutes really liked him. That was only when he was trashing other republicans… which was often. Trump has drawn a lot of pissed-off patriots to his rallies with his fiery rhetoric and seemingly anti-establishment positions.

I remain firm in my belief that he first ran on a whim and people took him seriously. He says all the right things but offers no concrete plans to do anything about the economy, immigration, or the trampling of our rights. He’s acting like rallies are going to see him through to the end. He sounds tough, but he’s facing a Clinton Machine that attacks with a savagery he’s never encountered before. They’re professionals and they have a lot of experience fighting dirty, with the full support of the media who carry their water.

At first glance the two weapons look similar.

Progressives latched onto the “AR” designation to call it an assault rifle and make it sound all the more scary.

First of all, Glocks don’t use clips — they use magazines. Secondly, you can only put one magazine in the well at a time.

Dem Sen. Chris Murphy Launches Talking Filibuster Until His Gun Control Demands Are Addressed

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) has launched a talking filibuster on the Senate floor in an effort to force Republicans and Democrats to come to an agreement on legislation to deny suspected terrorists from purchasing firearms and requiring universal background checks.

The Senate is debating a spending bill that Democrats hope to offer gun amendments to, but Murphy said that the Senate should “not proceed with debate on amendments to this bill until we have figured out a way to come together on, at the very least, two simple ideas.”

It comes as the American Medical Association voted this week to declare gun violence a “public health crisis” and to “actively lobby” for the federal government to conduct its own research on firearms, the Hill reported.

Looks like some Republicans are cutting their own deals to line their pockets. Just business.

In a sense of political correctness turned political irony, the abolitionist and underground railroad conductor will replace Democrat President Andrew Jackson.

On Wednesday the U.S. Treasury reported that Tubman, who during the Civil War was active in the Union cause, serving as a nurse, a cook, spy and scout, will replace Jackson on the front of the bill. The seventh President, whose supporters founded what became the Democratic Party, will move to the back of the bill along with an image of the White House.

Jackson, noted as a military man, has in recent years fallen out of favor over his treatment of Native Americans and the fact that he owned slaves. Earlier this year groups railed against the naming of a new warship, the USS Jackson, by Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus, despite the fact that the vessel was named in honor of Mississippi’s capital city by the former Governor of the Magnolia State.

Tubman on the other hand was a supporter of the anti-slavery Republican Party, though some argue she may not have been a fan of Mr. Lincoln’s at the time.

Further, to a degree she encouraged insurrection against the Federal government, helping abolitionist leader John Brown recruit volunteers to seize the Federal Arsenal at Harper’s Ferry in 1859. [story continues here]

What is virtue?

The dictionary defines virtue simply as “behavior showing high moral standards”, but people have many different ways or defining what morality means to them.

Thus, it pays to define terms carefully before judging or debating with others.

Jesus preached personal charity: ““Whoever has two tunics should share with the person who has none. And whoever has food should do likewise.” Luke 3:11 [NABRE]

But Immanuel Kant said the opposite. He preached that it was unjust to do anything for one needy person and that true justice was only found in doing the same thing for every needy person.

Since the definition of “every” is up for grabs, this strikes me as being not just anti-Christian, but anti-human.

Every who? Every needy person on my street? In my city? In the world? What a convenient way to justify being a greedy, self-centered, son of a bitch. Never mind that each person’s needs are unique. I’ve got personal experience with how the Left’s penchant for jamming everyone into predetermined, government-program, pigeon holes denies the needy the dignity that God says we all have. Sheesh!

Reading about Kant’s philosophy today went a long way toward explaining for me why so many Leftists claim the moral high ground, preaching pompously about our responsibility to help the needy, while living lives that are demonstrably less charitable than Christians in every way.

Arthur C. Brooks’ research demonstrated (against his “I was brought up Liberal and wanted to prove Liberals are better” desires) that politically liberal, secular people around the world are far less likely to donate blood, give money, or volunteer time than are politically conservative, church-goers.

I always thought Leftists were being hypocritical to equate voting Democrat with being compassionate and charitable. Now I see that I was wrong. They were being Kantian.

Kant’s philosophy also explains Democrat efforts to persecute those who attempt to do personal works of mercy.

E.g., Obamacare actually imposes fines on hospitals for giving pro bono care to those who cannot afford the medical care they need. Ditto soup kitchens. I remember reading about one 80-year old man who was arrested for feeding homeless people in his city. The Democrat mayor ordered the arrest, because he believed that being hungry would encourage the homeless to seek out government aid.
