OK,CHRISSY:HERE’S THE STORY
When I was about 23 my sister and her roommate(cute,as I recall)decided to have a Halloween party. The caveat was men had to be dressed as women and vice versa.Frankly,I never wanted my vice versa.I wanted to use one of my mom’s dresses(she was a big woman) but she talked me into putting on one of my sister’s dresses. She borrowed a wig from her neighbor and gave me one of her bras with the…uh… ‘foam rubber enhancements’.I think they were called “falsies.” I put on a pair of sis’ pantyhose, but they only came up to the top of my thighs so I had to keep reaching down to yank them up.Why did people give me funny looks when I did that?I was driving a 1971 Barracuda with vinyl seats and tried driving without sitting all the way down because they were cold as hell.
There I was, smoking cigars and shooting pool trying to look as macho as possible under the circumstances. It’s really a challenge to play nineball with foam rubber missiles always in your way.Anyway, sis’ neighbor staggers in not in costume, and starts watching me.As my grandma would put it,he was so drunk he didn’t know if he was afoot or horseback. Finally,he came over and said, ‘who are you, sweetheart?’
I told him I was twice the man he’ll ever be and more woman than he’ll ever get.I decided it would be better to leave the party early than to have this creep wake up the next morning thinking a girl beat his ass.Although I still appreciate a beautiful woman in heels, that was my first and only foray into the twisted world of crossdressing. That’s it.True story.
FIRST,THEY CAME FOR THE CATHOLICS
There was a discussion on the radio this morning about Bozo cutting off Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements to non-compliant Catholic hospitals.Judging from the initial outrage Barky may have bitten off more than he can chew.
It inspired the following exchange with my brother, who is one of the most intelligent and savvy individuals I know.
BRO’S REPLY: What is the battle about? Who is the enemy? At my age, I give less credence to one’s public statements and more to those tawdry realities which so often dictate our behavior.
In this case, it appears that the real issue is ego. Fine. Color me naive. But consider a few facts.
Newt is poorly disciplined. I remember well his leadership. And I see those same flaws now.
Remember, I was in his corner as late as last week. My son-in-law is still. But it appears that Newt believes this debate is about him. It isn’t. It’s about Obama.
If Newt is defeated by Romney, how will he act? Romney worked for the party. I fear Newt will work for … Newt. Given his history, (I too can claim the title ‘historian’) it isn’t clear that he will put party above his own desires.
Goodness knows, looking at his marital difficulties, the man has a track record.
People are upset about Romney’s ‘evolution’ to Conservative principles over these past few years. And I can understand their apprehension. But would the Gingrich backers in the audience tell me how you criticize the one man, all the while ignoring the former Speaker’s personal behavior over that same time period? If Newt can cheat on his 2nd wife, if anyone can justify cheating on his mate, and then find God at age 68, why can’t Romney abandon some of his earlier positions and find a philosophy closer to ours?
As Ms. Coulter noted, Romney’s evolution should be seen as a victory for our side. But his opponents are going to find ways to weaken his position. Why? Purity? Or to quote the Third Mate from THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER. “Or was it something else? Ego, perhaps?”
The candidates all appear to agree that this is a critical election. – Greece is broke, Italy, Spain and Ireland are ready to go. – While our military must wear white gloves while handling the Koran, the Catholic church is under attack. – The tax bill is 95% of GDP and rising. Nearly 50% of the nation does not pay federal taxes.
The list of disasters, starting with Holder, Geithner, and Biden grows. The metaphorical Titanic is taking on water. And we are running around the deck, checking the colors on the life boats.
Is this outrage truly about Conservative principles? Or is it about our egos?
MY RESPONSE: You can never lose quoting Red October to me 🙂
I appreciate your input very much. I was too busy being sick and raising kids to pay attention to the world before my first kid went to war. And I pretty much slept through American History in high school.
I am good friends with a lifelong Bay Stater who did pay attention. She thinks Romney is our best choice. And when I read Coulter, she makes me agree.
Then I listen to videos and debates, read other pundits, and I find myself liking Santorum or Gingrich best.
Thank goodness, there’s one candidate I can ignore. Ron Paul’s comments about foreign policy just left me cold.
When the GOP band of brothers (and sister) was huge, the MSM yammered about how weak it was.
Yet what I am struggling with now is how strong it is.
One of the PoliNators said, “I will probably be waffling when I step into the voting booth.”
I’m glad the New York primary isn’t any time real soon!
My Catholic priest, Father Larry Swink, delivered a homily on Sunday that I told him would make headlines. In the toughest sermon I have ever heard from a pulpit, he attacked the Obama Administration as evil, even demonic, and warned of religious persecution ahead. What was also newsworthy about the sermon was that he cited The Washington Post in agreement—not on the subject of the Obama Administration being evil, but on the matter of its abridgment of the constitutional right to freedom of religion.
What is happening is extraordinary and unprecedented. The Catholic Church is in open revolt against the Obama Administration, with Fr. Swink noting from the pulpit that priests across the archdiocese were joining the call on Sunday to rally Catholics to resistance against the U.S. Government. He said we are entering a time of religious persecution and that Catholics and others will have to make a final decision about which side they are on.
The issue is what the Catholic Bishops have called a “literally unconscionable” edict by the Obama Administration demanding that sterilization, abortifacients and contraception be included in virtually all health plans.
At a time when the media are full of reports about who is ahead and behind in the polls, and who will win the next Republican presidential primary, this incredible uprising in the Catholic Church is something that could not only overshadow the political campaign season, but also may have a major impact on the ultimate outcome—if Republicans know how to handle it. This matter goes beyond partisan politics to the growing perception of an unconstitutional Obama Administration assault on religious freedom. To hear the Catholic Bishops and Priests describe it, our constitutional republic and our freedoms hang in the balance.
The administration claims there is a religious exemption in the mandate, but the bishops say it is so narrow that it fails to cover the vast majority of faith-based organizations, including Catholic hospitals, universities and service organizations that help millions every year. “Ironically,” they say, “not even Jesus & his disciples would have qualified.”
The bishops go on, “Now that the Administration has refused to recognize the Constitutional conscience rights of organizations and individuals who oppose the mandate, the bishops are now urging Catholics and others of good will to fight this unprecedented attack on conscience rights and religious liberty.”
Interestingly, The Washington Post, as Father Swink indicated, agrees with the bishops. The paper said, “In this circumstance, requiring a religiously affiliated employer to spend its own money in a way that violates its religious principles does not make an adequate accommodation for those deeply held views. Having recognized the principle of a religious exemption, the administration should have expanded it.”
So why would the administration pick a major fight with the Catholic Church? There are two main reasons. (1) The administration wants to please its progressive and feminist, secular pro-abortion base. (2) The administration believes Catholics are divided on the issue and will ignore their leaders and follow Obama.
Support for the latter explanation comes in the form of the Obama Administration’s efforts to co-opt the Catholic Church, primarily through appointing nominal Catholics to high-level positions in government and keeping funding going to the church for “social justice” causes. Another player in this effort is the hedge-fund billionaire George Soros, an atheist who nevertheless has found groups that are “Catholic in name only” to accept his financial largesse. These groups, including Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good, are designed to give the impression that Catholics are less concerned about issues like stopping abortion and protecting the sanctity of traditional marriage than passing government health care. The Obama/Soros gamble may be backfiring.
It’s true that the bishops went along with Obama’s health care scheme, even lobbying on its behalf. But now they seem to be realizing that the plan was a Trojan Horse designed to force population control measures on the people of the United States. It will be difficult for the bishops to continue working with the administration on other issues, like immigration. They have drawn a line in the sand. They cannot back down.
Father Larry Swink of Jesus The Divine Word Catholic Church in Huntingtown, Maryland, is not alone in his tough language. Pittsburgh Bishop David A. Zubik posted a letter on the Roman Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh’s website that said, “It is really hard to believe that it happened. It comes like a slap in the face. The Obama administration has just told the Catholics of the United States, ‘To Hell with you!’ There is no other way to put it.” He added, “This whole process of mandating these guidelines undermines the democratic process itself. In this instance, the mandate declares pregnancy a disease, forces a culture of contraception and abortion on society, all while completely bypassing the legislative process.”
You know it’s serious when the bishops are talking about heaven and hell.
Indeed, Fr. Swink opened his discussion of what he described as the evil nature of the Obama Administration by reading from scripture about Jesus casting out demons. He saw the order on health care coverage as the start of religious persecution. The congregation joined him in calls of “Amen” when he challenged them to stand tall with the church.
You cannot expect the secular Washington Post to go along with such rhetoric. But even its liberal editorial writer saw the ramifications of the health care order, perhaps anticipating the confrontation that we now see developing. From the point of view of this liberal paper, the Obama Administration is not only undermining religious freedom but risking a major backlash to its overall “progressive” agenda and even a second term in office.
Some may see this battle as just another church-state dust-up that will be resolved through litigation. But when apocalyptic imagery is used, such as what I heard at my church on Sunday, one must wonder if there is an awakening on the part of the Catholic community and if there is something else going on here besides politics as usual. In short, is the Catholic Church beginning to finally recognize the real nature of the Obama Administration?

CAMP MITTENS DUPLICITY ON ALLEN WEST WORSE THAN A CONSPIRACY–IT’S A HABIT
I don’t remember when I’ve been so outraged,so disgusted at the GOP.Even though they picked up 2 congressional seats, they redistricted West out to make other republican and democrat seats safer. The Tea Party electees were looked at as interlopers when they came to Wahington.Idealogues are not welcome in the DC den of perdition where everybody gets rich and republicans know their place.
The democrats in Ill-Annoy sure weren’t shy about pushing republican districts together where we face losing some good people. My congressman,Don Manzullo, is a ten-termer who has always stuck with conservatism. Now he’s forced to run against Adam Kinzinger,an Iraq veteran and rising GOP star.We have a difficult choice to make. The game is rigged and I resent it.

GINGRICH BLOWS CHANCE IN CRUCIAL FINAL DEBATE
Nobody ever heard of Bain Capital until a few weeks ago.If Gingrich survives you can add another name:Sheldon Adelson. He’s a billionaire casino magnate from Las Vegas and the 8th richest man in the country. He and Newt became close friends when he was House Speaker and they share the goal of moving the capital of Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.Going into the South Carolina primary Newt was broke and he was reeling from the attack ads in Iowa.Adelson pumped $5 million into his super pac which breathed life into his flagging campaign. After his primary victory in South Carolina Adelson’s wife gave his pac another 5 mil.Without his friend’s help,he would have been finished.Look for the Adelsons to join the Koch brothers and Richard Mellon Scaife as whipping boys for the left.
Georgia residents are challenging Obama’s right to be on the 2012 presidential ballot.
The judge subpoenaed Obama to appear at a series of administration hearings on the matter.
Obama’s lawyer attempted to get his client out of having to appear.
The judge told them to go suck an egg.
Obama’s lawyer on Why Barry Should Not Have to Appear:
Presidential electors and Congress, not the state of Georgia, hold the constitutional responsibility for determining the qualifications of presidential candidates. The election of President Obama by the presidential electors, confirmed by Congress, makes the documents and testimony sought by plaintiff irrelevant.
I’m no lawyer, but it seems like they’re saying that once he got inaugurated, it no longer mattered if he had not been constitutionally eligible to be president. And since he’s president now, nobody can stop him from running in 2012.
The judge’s reply on Why Barry Still Has to Appear:
Defendant argues that ‘if enforced, [the subpoena] requires him to interrupt duties as president of the United States’ to attend a hearing in Atlanta, Georgia. However, defendant fails to provide any legal authority to support his motion to quash the subpoena to attend.
I’m sorry, but how onerous could his duties possibly be when he had time to waste an entire day flying to Florida to give an 18 minute speech in front of Cinderella’s Castle?
Defendant’s motion suggests that no president should be compelled to attend a court hearing. This may be correct. But defendant has failed to enlighten the court with any legal authority.
In other words, Obama the Famous Law Professor hired himself a lawyer who was too dumb to remember to cite precedent for his position.
Got this in email from one of my favorite writers, Kyle-Anne Shiver.
Dear Readers:
Well, someone had to do it. Whether we like it or not, the liberals will do all they can to instil fear of Mormonism among secularists and mainline Christians alike, if Mitt Romney is the nominee. Ignoring this factor in “electability” appraisals is just not smart politics.
Yet, the Republican establishment seems to believe that if they don’t talk about it, then no one will. What an adorable fantasy.
I’ve written my first column on the subject at American Thinker:
N.b., the text below is just from the email, not the text of the column. Click to link for the column.
One of the things which disturbs me most of all about Romney’s electability is that he has seemed utterly unprepared for the easily predictable attacks against his private-equity brand of capitalism, his exceptional wealth, his tax returns and his political flip-flopping record. This very unpreparedness strikes right at the heart of his supposed high-level managerial competence credential. A CEO, who gets caught flat-footed with issues that anyone with half a brain could see coming a mile away, looks like he has been riding a golden-goose luck train to get where he is. Anything but competent, especially when one considers the fact he has been running for president for 6 whole years.
What worries me most about Romney is that he seems petulant and peeved when assertively questioned. And I can’t help but wonder, then, how he will deal with the inevitable attacks against his Mormonism when they come at him fast and furious during a general election against the no-holds-barred master of Alinsky jujitsu, Barack Obama.
Will Romney become all flustered and start a defensive lecture about not having a religious test for office? If his behavior regarding Bain, taxes and flip-flopping is any indicator, then I predict he will. And that petulant squirming will make him look to the general public as anything but presidential.
Elections often turn on intangibles. Perceptions are easily manipulated in this age of propagandized media. Obama cannot run on his record with the American people. His only refuge will be in portraying Romney as too “weird” to be trusted with power and too rich to understand the plight of normal Americans. In Mitt’s Bain Capital record, his super-wealth, his opulent mansions and his bishop status in Mormonism, Obama will have struck pure gold.
Just things for all Republican primary voters to consider.
Full disclosure: I am supporting Newt Gingrich, first and foremost on the electability factor.
Two things about the videos linked below swayed me toward Newt.
One, I think he’s right that the only way to beat Obama is to nominate a candidate who is VERY different from Obama, which means not another John McCain RINO moderate like Romney.
Two, he has a strength of character, an SOB factor if you will, that makes me think he can deal with everything the Democrat Media Complex, Democrat legislators, and world class bullies would throw at him.
Santorum has the more exemplary personal life, but he’s nice. I’d love to have his family living in our neighborhood, going to our church, etc.
But I am just not seeing the warrior toughness needed to get elected and steer our country back to being the city on a hill the founders created.
Newt Holds Townhall Meeting With Meredith Lakes Region Tea Party [1:44:37]
Besides trying to inform, entertain and maybe make you laugh, one of the things I enjoy about posting here is reading about what you think.I’m assuming there are few if any other men on this board and I was surprised at the reaction you had to Marianne Gingrich grousing about the woman who stole the man she stole from his first wife.
I married my first wife when I was 24 and she was pregnant. That’s how it was done back then.I thought I could get along with anyone, but she was as immature as I was.
It was about five years after my divorce that I met my second wife who was 10 years my junior with a three year old boy.She worked two days a week as a nurse and I worked a full time job and delivered pizzas on weekends to give her whatever she wanted. She convinced me to legally adopt her son after about 7 years of marriage because her ex was a deadbeat dad.
Unbeknownst to me she hooked up with a guy from our church who was even lazier and more worthless than she was.She convinced a judge her son was afraid of me,although I never went anywhere without him.I paid 25% of my income for 6 years, and haven’t seen him since 1992.He’ll be 31 on March 5.
My fishing partner’s wife had a best friend they introduced me to 18 years ago and we’ve been together since. We were in our 40’s and had no illusions about how hard a relationship could be.We’ve had disagreements,to be sure, but to my knowledge we’ve never had a serious fight. She claims one of the reasons she married me was because I made her laugh. It must be true because after 18 years she doesn’t laugh when I take my clothes off anymore.
She has a son and a daughter she raised for many years after her ex walked out on them. Her daughter tries to keep in touch for holidays and birthdays, but my stepson will have nothing to do with him for any reason.I’m the only grandpa their kids know.
My stepson has a daughter,16 and a son,14 and you already know about Miss Isabel and Miss Olivia, who are my stepdaughter’s little gifts from God.
In Romans Jesus said ‘all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.’ None of us are perfect and sometimes you have to try more than once to get it right. That’s why I can’t be too judgemental of Newt.Christians aren’t perfect, but we are forgiven.
