Another take on Mitt’s electability

Got this in email from one of my favorite writers, Kyle-Anne Shiver.

Dear Readers:

Well, someone had to do it. Whether we like it or not, the liberals will do all they can to instil fear of Mormonism among secularists and mainline Christians alike, if Mitt Romney is the nominee. Ignoring this factor in “electability” appraisals is just not smart politics.

Yet, the Republican establishment seems to believe that if they don’t talk about it, then no one will. What an adorable fantasy.

One of the things which disturbs me most of all about Romney’s electability is that he has seemed utterly unprepared for the easily predictable attacks against his private-equity brand of capitalism, his exceptional wealth, his tax returns and his political flip-flopping record. This very unpreparedness strikes right at the heart of his supposed high-level managerial competence credential. A CEO, who gets caught flat-footed with issues that anyone with half a brain could see coming a mile away, looks like he has been riding a golden-goose luck train to get where he is. Anything but competent, especially when one considers the fact he has been running for president for 6 whole years.

What worries me most about Romney is that he seems petulant and peeved when assertively questioned. And I can’t help but wonder, then, how he will deal with the inevitable attacks against his Mormonism when they come at him fast and furious during a general election against the no-holds-barred master of Alinsky jujitsu, Barack Obama.

Will Romney become all flustered and start a defensive lecture about not having a religious test for office? If his behavior regarding Bain, taxes and flip-flopping is any indicator, then I predict he will. And that petulant squirming will make him look to the general public as anything but presidential.

Elections often turn on intangibles. Perceptions are easily manipulated in this age of propagandized media. Obama cannot run on his record with the American people. His only refuge will be in portraying Romney as too “weird” to be trusted with power and too rich to understand the plight of normal Americans. In Mitt’s Bain Capital record, his super-wealth, his opulent mansions and his bishop status in Mormonism, Obama will have struck pure gold.

Just things for all Republican primary voters to consider.

THE GRUDGE: STATE OF THE UNION EDITION

Grab your favorite drink and get comfortable–my cup runneth over.Over my shirt,my pants,the keyboard and the desk.Damn,that coffee’s hot.

Tonight the Pharaoh speaks to his subjects.They all marvel at his oratorical skills.Personally,his voice is like dragging a sled down a dry sidewalk. Unfortunately I will miss the show due to previous committments.I plan to arrange the spices in the cupboard in alphabetical order.

My guess is the speech will go something like this:

I heard a snippet on the radio this morning that he may have a surprise announcement on energy.Could it be he realizes that he stepped on his own penis when he nixed the Keystone XL deal?His opinion hasn’t changed and certainly won’t.But if Newt is the nominee,he will disembowel him over it,especially if gas prices spike as predicted.

The GOP elitists are pulling that tired ‘date night’ crap to show how they get along.Why don’t they just rent a Howard Johnson’s and get it over with?Because they’re not screwing each other–it’s us.

Two things about the videos linked below swayed me toward Newt.

One, I think he’s right that the only way to beat Obama is to nominate a candidate who is VERY different from Obama, which means not another John McCain RINO moderate like Romney.

Two, he has a strength of character, an SOB factor if you will, that makes me think he can deal with everything the Democrat Media Complex, Democrat legislators, and world class bullies would throw at him.

Santorum has the more exemplary personal life, but he’s nice. I’d love to have his family living in our neighborhood, going to our church, etc.

But I am just not seeing the warrior toughness needed to get elected and steer our country back to being the city on a hill the founders created.

THE FRIDAY GRUDGE

Besides trying to inform,entertain and maybe make you laugh,one of the things I enjoy about posting here is reading about what you think.I’m assuming there are few if any other men on this board and I was surprised at the reaction you had to Marianne Gingrich grousing about the woman who stole the man she stole from his first wife.

I married my first wife when I was 24 and she was pregnant.That’s how it was done back then.I thought I could get along with anyone,but she was as immature as I was.

It was about five years after my divorce that I met my second wife who was 10 years my junior with a three year old boy.She worked two days a week as a nurse and I worked a full time job and delivered pizzas on weekends to give her whatever she wanted.She convinced me to legally adopt her son after about 7 years of marriage because her ex was a deadbeat dad.

Unbeknownst to me she hooked up with a guy from our church who was even lazier and more worthless than she was.She convinced a judge her son was afraid of me,although I never went anywhere without him.I paid 25% of my income for 6 years,and haven’t seen him since 1992.He’ll be 31 on March 5.

My fishing partner’s wife had a best friend they introduced me to 18 years ago and we’ve been together since.We were in our 40’s and had no illusions about how hard a relationship could be.We’ve had disagreements,to be sure,but to my knowledge we’ve never had a serious fight.She claims one of the reasons she married me was because I made her laugh.It must be true because after 18 years she doesn’t laugh when I take my clothes off anymore.

She has a son and a daughter she raised for many years after her ex walked out on them.Her daughter tries to keep in touch for holidays and birthdays,but my stepson will have nothing to do with him for any reason.I’m the only grandpa their kids know.

My stepson has a daughter,16 and a son,14 and you already know about Miss Isabel and Miss Olivia,who are my stepdaughter’s little gifts from God.

In Romans Jesus said ‘all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.’ None of us are perfect and sometimes you have to try more than once to get it right.That’s why I can’t be too judgemental of Newt.Christians aren’t perfect,but we are forgiven.

Mitt Romney has spent more than 20 years in private enterprise, making thousands of business decisions affecting hundreds of companies that led to more than 100,000 new jobs and billions of dollars for employees and investors. So you can see why the left despises him.

Among Romney’s thousands of business decisions, the one I gather his opponents consider his absolute worst was the decision to close a paper plant in Marion, Ind. – which wasn’t his decision at all.

The “King of Bain” movie that a pro-Newt Gingrich super-pac just bought with money donated by a gambling magnate cites only one company closed by Bain when Romney was even there.

Guess which one? That’s right: Ampad.

The Democratic National Committee has retained “salt of the earth” Randy Johnson to go on tour to describe all the ways Romney “didn’t care about workers.”

The bitter and lying Randy Johnson happens to have been the union president who led the strike that forced Ampad to close the plant.

Bain Capital specialized in rescuing troubled companies.

In 1992, it bought the faltering paper-based office products business, Ampad, from the Mead paper company.  Far from shutting down Ampad, Bain started buying up more firms in the industry to add to Ampad’s portfolio, hoping to create efficiencies and synergies, including Smith-Corona’s struggling paper business – home to the famed Marion plant.

Smith-Corona went bankrupt the next year. Nobody uses typewriters anymore.

Seeking to succeed where Smith-Corona had failed, Bain’s Ampad sought to renegotiate a suicide pact-union contract at the Marion plant. But instead of renegotiating, union president Randy Johnson thought it would be a great idea to immediately go on strike.

The mid-1990s was NOT a good time for workers in an industry made vulnerable by the new, paperless information age to stage a long, acrimonious strike. Union president Randy Johnson thought it was. The Democrats (and some Republicans) apparently do, too.

Romney wasn’t even at Bain during Ampad’s acquisition of the Smith-Corona business, much less for the strike at the Marion plant. In any event, it’s highly unlikely that Bain would have anything to do with a day-to-day management decision to close a plant, anyway.

Bain did not drive Ampad to bankruptcy by looting it.

To the contrary, Bain built up the company until, in 1996, Ampad was being described in Chief Executive magazine as “a stronger, profitable competitor in a consolidating – and reviving – domestic industry.”

Alas, people kept using those damn computers and shopping for discount paper at Staples and similar stores, and in 1999, Ampad had to file for bankruptcy protection. The company would have gone bankrupt a lot sooner if it hadn’t closed down the non-producing Marion plant.

I don’t know how Mitt Romney is supposed to explain free-market capitalism to career politicians, much less describe the intricacies of a thousand business decisions in two minutes during a debate.

I sure hope I can get through this without getting banned.I got up this morning with one nerve left and that purple-lipped pissant squatting in the White Hut has jumped on it.Rush just ended and he was on an absolute roll.I heard a clip of Diane Sawyer and fellow hack Jon Karl mocking Romney for making $374K last year.She has $40M and her contract is for $12M per year.Pretty good for a no-talent hack.Rush also brought up that winning the presidency would mean a pay cut for Romney as opposed the the Ghetto Gang who went there to GET rich.

The opposition to SOPA is widespread today,but I fear it will amount to a pebble in the ocean given this regime’s propensity in doing whatever the hell they feel like doing.

The thing that really,really set me off today was reading about them grazing at BLT,an upscale DC restaurant to celebrate the day the Wookie was spawned.

I had the poor judgment to look up the restaurant’s menu.Bad move.Bozo ordered the American Wagyu 12 oz. ribeye.Are you ready?NINETY-TWO FREAKING DOLLARS!!!
