Sojourn to a Catholic Church

Miss Isabel was confirmed at Saint Mary’s Church in Dekalb, Illinois yesterday. Rumor has it I’m an Evangelical Lutheran, but that has yet to be confirmed. The last time I was in a Catholic church other than the girls’ First Communion may have been in the late 70s when my ex-roommate married one of my old girl friends. (Long story, don’t ask.) Both are full-blooded Italians and they were wed in a high mass that went for almost two hours. The reception was at the Lombardi Club, which is predominantly Italian. I never saw so many people equipped with gallon jugs of Dago Red wine (that’s what they call it, don’t yell at me). I can testify that there was so much delicious food it was almost obscene. My ex-roomie’s mother had been in this country for 50 years and could barely speak English, but every time we ate at their house she’d send enough food home to last for weeks.
Back to the confirmation:
The service was to begin at 1:00 PM. The front part of the sanctuary was reserved for confirmands and their sponsors. The rest of the pews were full by the time we got there at 12:15. The majority were Hispanic. We were fortunate enough to get chairs in the foyer. The late arrivals stood in the entrance to the church and they were backed up to the door. Some pews only had one or two people, but they were saving the entire row for late coming friends and relatives. Church is the only place you can get away with that without a fight.
David J. Malloy, the Bishop of Rockford, gave the sermon. He had to repeat much of it in Spanish, which he is fluent in. I joked to my stepdaughter that I could get us seats in the sanctuary. How? she queried. I said by walking in and yelling “Immigracion!” She told me to behave. I told her I’m going to hell anyway, so it would make no difference.
After the confirmands were inducted by His Eminence (don’t know if you address a bishop that way), they had Holy Communion for the entire congregation. The service was approaching 1 1/2 hours by then and I hadn’t eaten since breakfast. Mercifully, one of the priests was in the back of the church, next to us, and was also giving the sacraments. I was thankful they added an express lane or we’d have been there until supper.
There was a young Hispanic couple in front of us, looking through the window into the main sanctuary, who had three young children, not much more than a year apart. Apparently they took the Bible’s admonition to be fruitful and multiply very seriously. When they got to the part where everyone shakes hands with their neighbor, we did so. When one young man shook my hand then flashed gang signs, that was the end of hand shaking for me.
There were members of the Knights of Columbus there, dressed in their finery with swords hanging from their belts, obviously meant to be intimidating. When they passed the offering plate, I put some money in. I’m not Catholic, but I was taking no chances. Suffering from severe sleep apnea, I put my head down on the chair in front of me,just to rest my eyes. When I looked up, a priest was walking past who must have thought, ‘What a pious man!’… unless he’d seen folks drift off during a lengthy sermon, which he probably had.
The entire class of the newly confirmed took group pictures with the bishop, then some had photos taken with him one on one. We took our family pictures when we returned to the kids’ house. There’s an excellent Chinese buffet where we all met for lupper (lunch/supper). There was a beautiful cake and Miss Isabel got some nice gifts. As my grandfather would say, she made out “like a Jew in a junkyard”… haven’t thought of that one in years.
I bought a nice beef roast about a month ago and the family is coming up for dinner next week. Any excuse to see the grandchildren works for me. Hopefully my daughter will be out of group counseling by then.

There is nothing in the world so important as family.

Redneck Ridiculousity

Don’t even know if that’s a word.
Took the snow tires off my car this last week. Started raining yesterday, overnight turned to rain/freezing rain/snow.
Durned if ya do, durned if ya don’t.
Miss Isabel’s confirmation is today. Nothing short of a typhoon coming out of Lake Michigan will keep us from being there.
No time to look up any news items, so here’s some redneck humor.

Betsy DeVos Tells Striking Teachers to Stop Being so Selfish
Teachers in Oklahoma have not showed up to class in nine days. Republican Gov. Mary Fallin approved pay raises in the tune of $6,100, but educators say it does not meet their demands. They also weren’t too happy that she likened their protest to “a teenager wanting a better car.” The teachers are on the march in defiance of school funding cuts and in support of pay raises of $10,000 over the next three years.

New Yorker’ Calls Chick-Fil-A ‘Creepy,’ ‘Pervasive’ for Being Christian
Angered, no doubt, by the “ersatz homespun ambiance of a megachurch,” Piepenbring accused the restaurant of having an ulterior motive: proselytism and “glorifying God.” Rather than just understanding that the free market exists and that there is in fact a niche for enthusiastic Christians who want to sell chicken sandwiches, the writer took the same, stale path that the rest of the media has been parroting since 2012: Chick-Fil-A is “anti-LGBTQ” and full of “bigotry.”

Senator who called for Trump’s assassination demands slave reparations…counts herself among the beneficiaries
When you get down to the nitty-gritty of the progressive left’s “critical race theory,” which now drives race relations in the United States, reparations is the coveted goal to resolve all grievances.
Cue Missouri state Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal, the Trump-hating Democrat, who is calling for reparations for former slaves, according to The Kansas City Star.
Well, considering there are no former slaves alive today, the default payees would be current relations to the slaves — which conveniently includes the senator, according to her testimony.

For What It’s Worth

It is as frustrating as it is nauseating to watch what’s been happening to the president. That pig Robert Mueller not only tore the concept of ethics to shreds but is walking close to, if not over, the bounds of legality.

His team of Gestapo agents raided the office and home of long time Trump personal attorney, Michael Cohen, to allegedly look for evidence of a payoff to a porn actress. This is way, way outside the scope of his supposed investigation which is Russian collusion. There is none, of course, but he will never stop until he brings down this president.

This is a blatant attempt by this scum to goad Trump into firing him. The democrats are waiting for an excuse to charge him with obstruction so they can start the impeachment party after they get the majority back.

Feds raid Michael Cohen’s office, seize material related to payments to Stormy Daniels, other matters; Update: Mueller consulted Rosenstein; Update: Bank fraud and campaign finance violations?

The search does not appear to be directly related to Mr. Mueller’s investigation, but likely resulted from information he had uncovered and gave to prosecutors in New York…

The payments to Ms. Clifford are only one of many topics being investigated, according to a person briefed on the search. The F.B.I. also seized emails, tax documents and business records, the person said.

The seized records include communications between Mr. Trump and Mr. Cohen, which would likely require a special team of agents to review because conversations between lawyers and clients are protected from scrutiny in most instances.

He’s now involved in two criminal investigations, one Mueller’s, the other the Manhattan U.S. Attorney’s. That’s extra pressure to cooperate with Mueller, as he could conceivably be indicted by the DOJ in two different jurisdictions if he doesn’t. This is Russiagate’s boldest squeeze play yet

Mueller Investigating Trump Over $150K Donation From Ukrainian Who Gave Clintons $13 Million

THAT’S DIFFERENT. HILLARY HAD TO BE PROTECTED AT ALL COSTS.

The donation, from steel magnate Victor Pinchuk, pales in comparison to contributions he gave to the charity Bill and Hillary Clinton set up. The billionaire has contributed $13 million to the Clinton Foundation since 2006 and had access to Hillary Clinton while she served as secretary of state.

Trump Blasts AWOL Jeff Sessions: “He Made a Terrible Mistake, He Should Have Let Us Know He Was Going to Recuse Himself”

THIS IS THE FIRST TIME TRUMP HAS CALLED OUT THAT COWARDLY LITTLE PRICK. HAD HE NOT RECUSED HIMSELF FROM ANY INVESTIGATION AS SOON AS HE WAS CONFIRMED, THAT TRUMP-HATING BASTARD ROSENSTEIN COULD NOT HAVE SET MUELLER LOOSE TO GET TRUMP. PERIOD. NO MATTER HOW, JUST DO IT.

Ahead of a briefing from Senior Military Leadership Monday night, President Trump blasted the FBI’s raid of his personal lawyer’s office, calling it a disgraceful situation and an attack on the U.S., according to White House pool reports.

Trump also criticized Attorney General Jeff Sessions for recusing himself from the Russia investigation, adding that no one in looking at the other side of the probe, an apparent reference to Hillary Clinton.

FBI Raid: Mueller outsources the legal torment of Michael Cohenbut that doesn’t mean it’s not part of Mueller’s Russian collusion inquisition

Mueller is legally twisting Manafort’s arm so hard to flip him against Trump it may fall off, but will have to outsource the torment of Cohen to others. As so much that has preceded it in the Russia collusion inquisition, this has the appearances of friends of James Comey and Andrew McCabe taking out whatever their agenda is on friends of Trump.

We are witnessing, as Scott [Johnson] says, “a political death struggle with the authorities operating under [President Trump’s] nominal control.” President Trump and his loyal appointees need to assert the powers that the voters have given them.”

We’ll learn more in coming weeks, but this brings to a head a seemingly intractable conflict: Donald Trump was duly elected president and there are a lot of people on Mueller’s team and in DOJ/FBI who still don’t accept that and want it over. Only one of them can win.

Schumer: It’s time to vote on legislation protecting Mueller

ROBESPIERRE MUST BE PROTECTED UNTIL THE EXECUTIONS CONCLUDE.

Schumer called for new protections of Mueller hours after the FBI raided the Manhattan office of Trump’s longtime personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, enraging the president.

The Democratic leader warned that Mueller’s investigation must be allowed to proceed unimpeded to avoid a constitutional crisis.

Carl Bernstein: FBI raid was about ‘scaring the hell out of the president’

ALL THE OTHER JACKALS ARE ENVIOUS OF THE PRESIDENTIAL SCALP THIS DICKWAD WAVES AROUND. THEY WANT ONE, TOO.

Veteran journalist Carl Bernstein said on Tuesday that President Trump “knows he’s trapped,” reacting to how the commander in chief is lashing out after the FBI raided the office, home, and hotel room of his personal attorney, Michael Cohen.

Furthermore, Bernstein said the raid was about “scaring the hell out of the president,” because Trump “knows better than anyone what he and his lawyer have discussed, communicated about it.”

In light of the CNN report about Rosenstein, Bernstein said Trump is a “lawless president” determined to avoid accountability by trying to shut down special counsel investigation.

“We have a president of the United States willing to risk a constitutional crisis for this nation so he can avoid legitimate investigation and letting the facts roll out the way they ought to,” Bernstein said.

Rod Rosenstein signed off on FBI raid of Michael Cohen’s office: Report

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein personally approved the FBI’s decision to raid Michael Cohen’s office in New York, according to a report.

Sources told the New York Times that Rosenstein’s involvement in the decision to raid the office of Cohen, President Trump’s longtime attorney, led the president to vent about whether he should fire the No. 2 official at the Justice Department.

Facebook assisting Mueller probe into Trump 2016 campaign

Facebook is working with special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into Trump campaign interactions with Russian operatives during the 2016 election, company founder Mark Zuckerberg told Congress on Tuesday.

Mr. Zuckerberg first said his company had gotten a subpoena from Mr. Mueller, then paused and said he wasn’t sure if there was a subpoena but his company is sharing information the investigation.

He declined to go into more details.

“Our work with the special counsel is confidential,” he said, testifying to the Senate Judiciary and Commerce committees.

CtH: Ironic he should claim confidentiality while Mueller’s thugs were busy raiding Trump’s LAWYER.

Obama Holdover Accused of Corruption Approved Trump Lawyer Raid

When the media first began to spin the raid on the president’s lawyer, they claimed that it had been approved by a Trump appointee. Of course it hadn’t. It came from Rosenstein on one end. And Trump’s appointee had recused himself. That left his deputy, an Obama holdover, Robert Khuzami. And there are reports that he allegedly made the decision.

Khuzami was in charge of SEC enforcement under Obama. He did speak at the RNC convention in ’04 in support of the Patriot Act and donated to McCain in ’08. But as we’ve seen with Mueller, that kind of thing is old news. The much more significant factor is his SEC gig.

Michael Cohen has lunch with Donny Deutsch hours after the Morning Joe contributor said that Trump’s lawyer could be on the ‘right side of history’ and help ‘bring down the presidency’

The pair were photographed leaving Barneys together on Wednesday afternoon. The pair dined at Freds, the popular restaurant on the ninth floor.

Deutsch appeared on MSNBC’s Morning Joe show earlier in the day. He told host Joe Scarborough ‘good guy’ Cohen has a lot weighing on him.

“I think Michael has a chance to be on the right side of history’ and bring down presidency,” Donny said.

Stuff Nobody Will See

Late posting today. DW’s check came, had overdue bills to pay, had to get snow tires taken off and highway tires put back on. One was bad and the other one is wearing, so I had to buy another tire. Now I have to have my mechanic check for front end issues. Hopefully just an alignment, but I doubt it. Nothing ever comes easy for me. Then had to get groceries. Money sure don’t last long.

April Ryan Asks Sarah Sanders If Trump Has ‘Thought About Stepping Down’

“With all of this turmoil, particularly last week, has the president at any time thought about stepping down before or now?” Ryan asked, as the press asked repeatedly about President Trump’s anger at the FBI raiding his personal attorney Michael Cohen’s office.

“No, and I think that’s an absolutely ridiculous question,” Sanders replied, calling on another reporter.

Ryan shouted over Sanders that “it’s not a ridiculous question,” before Sanders was able to move on.

She was on all the morning talk shows today and they treated her like royalty.

Fired up donors help Democrats hit early fundraising records

Anti-Trump donors are opening their checkbooks wide this year, helping Democratic candidates set early fundraising records as they hope to send a message in November’s elections.

Democrats running in Senate races across the country have been eager to share their latest fundraising totals with the political universe as they seek to generate a sense of momentum ahead of the midterm elections.

“I think the most important thing that these numbers say is that the Democratic base is very fired up,” said Jennifer Duffy, of the Cook Political Report, a non-partisan campaign tracker.

Paul Ryan won’t seek re-election
I CAN PROMISE YOU THIS SEAT WILL FLIP DEMOCRAT. HE ONLY HELD OFFICE BECAUSE EVERYBODY IN JANESVILLE KNOWS HIM.

House Speaker Paul Ryan is not seeking re-election and will retire from Congress after this year, the Wisconsin Republican announced Wednesday.

“You realize something when you take this job,” Ryan told reporters on Capitol Hill on Wednesday morning. “It’s a big job with a lot riding on you … but you also know this is not a job that does not last forever. … You realize you hold the office for just a small part of our history. So you better make the most of it.”

Retirement Avalanche Continues: Another House Republican Announces He’s Finished

IT SEEMS LIKE THE REPUBLICANS WANT THE DEMOCRATS TO GET THE MAJORITY. SOME OF THOSE LEFT WILL GO ALONG WITH IMPEACHING THE PRESIDENT… OVER NOTHING.

Rep. Dennis Ross, R-Lakeland, told his staff this morning he is retiring.

“Eight years takes its time on you. … There’s got to be an exit strategy at some point,” Ross said in an interview, noting he planned on serving 10 years, or five terms.

He dismissed the suggestion that his retirement had anything to do with a possible Democratic wave, though the open seat will now become a target, while setting off a scramble among Republican hopefuls.

NYT Hot Take: If It’s A Witch Hunt, Why Does Trump Care About Attorney-Client Privilege?
Push to Politicize Impeachment May Backfire for Democrats in Midterms
THIS WILL ONLY HAPPEN IF REPUBLICAN VOTERS REALIZE WHAT WE’RE UP AGAINST. DEMOCRATS WILL STOP AT NOTHING TO DESTROY THE PRESIDENT.

The push by a number of prominent Democrats to completely politicize the impeachment process could backfire for them in the midterms, David Axelrod, the political adviser who helped elect Barack Obama to the Presidency in 2008, said on Sunday.

Far left billionaire Tom Steyer, who has dedicated $30 million to electing a Democratic majority in the House of Representatives for the express purpose of impeaching President Trump, thinks virtually any action taken by the President is an impeachable offense.

Bits & Bytes

I’ve been out of commission for quite a while, but I’m feeling somewhat better now and trying to get caught up. My email has a ginormous backlog, what with all the stuff I subscribe to and the multitudinous pictures from recent family celebrations.

The Buzzers got to spend Easter with their Texas cousins. Mama Buzz said the kids were super good travelers and they all had a wonderful vacation!

2018_03 27 A&A on plane

Most of the e-subscription stuff is just going into the trash, cuz I can’t deal with it all. But some is kinda interesting, so here’s a sampling.

TRUMP ECONOMY: The U.S. unemployment rate in February marked a 17-year low. The number of Americans rating the economy good to excellent has hit an 18-year high. Average job growth numbers in 2018 are the strongest since 1997. Since January 2017, more than 2.5 million jobs have been added to the economy.

CUTTING SPENDING: White House chief economic adviser Larry Kudlow said White House officials and Congressional Republicans are putting together legislation to rescind spending from the $1.3 trillion omnibus budget they recently passed. A rescission bill could not be filibustered by Senate Democrats.

DEMOCRAT HYPOCRISY: President Donald J. Trump announced Tuesday that he will deploy U.S. troops to reinforce the Mexican border. Democrats acted like he had set a cross ablaze on someone’s lawn. But in 2010, President Obama deployed 1,200 National Guard troops and requested an extra $500 million to secure the Mexican border. One of my military kids who has served down there voiced disgust at the liberal head explosions. “We’ve had troops on the border for ages!”

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY WIN: Air Force Col. Leland Bohannon was on the verge of being promoted to a one-star general when he was suspended from command in 2017 for refusing to publicly affirm the same-sex spouse of a retiring subordinate. Thankfully, the Air Force has reversed its decision to punish this highly-decorated and respected officer.

ANTI-CHRISTIAN BIGOTRY: In 2016, after a young Muslim jihadist shot up a gay nightclub in Orlando, the Left Stream Media blamed it on Christians and Republicans, who allegedly have fostered such a climate of anti-gay hatred that this poor little Muslim jihadist could not help himself. But during the trial, it became clear that it was a terrorist attack, pure and simple. The shooter had originally intended to shoot up the Disney Springs shopping and entertainment complex and had switched to the gay nightclub randomly less than an hour before the attack. It is not clear he even knew it was a gay bar. Don’t hold your breath waiting for the Left to apologize to the millions of Americans they slandered unjustly.

SOCIAL MEDIA BIAS

Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube are all censoring conservative content. As privately owned companies, I think they have that right and the courts agree. Dennis Prager tried to sue Google for censoring Prager University’s YouTube content and lost.

Facebook stopped sending Diamond and Silk’s 1.2 million followers notifications and YouTube recently demonetized their videos. After six months of stalling, Facebook finally told them, “The Policy team has came to the conclusion that your content and your brand has been determined unsafe to the community. This decision is final and it is not appeal-able in any way.”

Wow. Two black women supporting President Trump makes the world UNSAFE. ::smh::

It really fries my buns that these same Left-wing types tend to support gay activists who target Christian wedding vendors for doing the exact same thing and with far less impact. There are umpteen wedding vendors who are happy to service gay couples. But Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube have a virtual monopoly on social media. I wish some big bucks right-winger would offer us alternatives!

David Hogg Will Skip Year of College to Focus on ’18 Elections After UC-Irvine Offers Admission

Hogg’s mother told CNN on Monday that her son “will not be going to college this year because he’s decided to take a year off and work on the midterm elections.”
TMZ reported on Sunday that Hogg received an acceptance letter from UCI that partly read: “Students choose UCI to make a true difference in the world, we hope you will too.”
After Fox News host Laura Ingraham tweeted that Hogg, who told numerous outlets that he was “hurt” that some of California’s top public schools rejected him, had whined about not being accepted to various colleges, the left-wing teenage activist immediately called on Ingraham’s advertisers to drop her.

MSNBC’s Joy Reid: What If Trump Refuses To Be Arrested By Federal Marshals?
IF HE DID THAT HE’D BE A DEMOCRAT… THEY IGNORE LAWS WHEN THEY FEEL LIKE IT.

A George Soros-Backed Prosecutor Under FBI Investigation Indicts Republican Governor Eric Greitens—Because of a Dream
EVIDENCE? WE DON’T NEED NO STEENKING EVIDENCE! HE’S A REPUBLICAN. THAT’S ALL WE NEED TO KNOW.
Here’s the story: In St. Louis, Missouri, in 2018, a man was indicted for a felony for allegedly taking a compromising photograph of his mistress. From the beginning, the details were sketchy: the woman wasn’t sure if she’d seen a flash or heard a phone click. Under cross-examination, she revealed even more uncertainty. Turns out, she’d never actually seen a phone. She’d never seen a camera. She’d never seen a photo.
Oh — and she might have dreamt the whole thing up. That’s right: when asked by the prosecutor whether she had seen a phone, she said it was something she may once have had a dream about.

Unremorseful ‘drunk judge’ works 1 day in whole year, gets raise to nearly 200k, and then this crazy rant
New York taxpayers spend nearly $200,000 every single year to fund the salary of an obnoxious “drunk judge” who as of April had only worked one day thus far this year.
IT’S GOOD TO BE A PROTECTED MINORITY
Rochester City Court Judge Leticia Astacio earned the nickname of “drunk judge” after a court convicted her of a DWI in 2017 for a driving incident that occurred a year earlier
WHAM noted that the state’s Commission on Legislative, Judicial and Executive Compensation recently approved a raise for all New York judges, including Astacio. As a result, the “drunk judge” now collects a whopping $187,200 salary, all at the expense of New York taxpayers.
“Why’s my name in the headlines?” she wrote Monday afternoon. “You’re mad because I’m a young minority getting paid.”

In a lawsuit filed on Friday, a woman claims that a Pennsylvania house dedicated to then-candidate Donald Trump caused her to get into a car accident two weeks before the election.

Roadman is now seeking more than $30,000 from Rossi and did not name the driver who actually hit her in the lawsuit.

Trump To Replace Liberal Lion Of The Ninth Circuit
Fearing a conservative jurist would replace Judge Stephen Reinhardt, the liberal lion of the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, a prominent progressive legal scholar quietly urged him to retire in the spring of 2014.
Reinhardt refused the overtures. Months later, Republicans assumed control of the Senate, effectively ending former President Barack Obama’s judicial confirmations. President Donald Trump’s election forced the judge into an awkward actuarial battle, an increasingly common phenomenon as judicial appointments become highly politicized. He died on March 29 at 87.

With the court’s reversal, some say their dreams of getting college educations have been buried.
“We are an asset,” said Karina Ruiz, the president of the Arizona Dream Act Coalition. “We contribute. For this state to not give us a chance to continue to do so, it’s wrong.”
Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich said that while he’s sympathetic to these kids and their hopes for higher education, he commended the court for cracking down on universities who were violating the law.
“It’s about time someone held them accountable, and that’s my job,” Brnovich said. “My role as AG is to make sure you’re following the law.”
