THE THURSDAY GRUDGE-IMPERIAL EDITION

Don’t plan on posting too much–we’ll see how it goes.

As I drove around this morning,alone with my thoughts as I delivered my papers, I got to thinking about Obama’s naked power grab.The more I thought about it the more he reminded me of Yul Brynner in The Ten Commandments.Both believed they descended from heaven to rule as some sort of god on earth.When the Pharaoh spoke he’d point a finger and say: ‘so let it be written-so let it be done.’ The scribes would scratch his words on parchment and issue his edicts to the unwashed masses who worshipped at the many temples he had built to himself.Notice the similarities?Pharaoh took half the straw from the Israelites and told them their quota of bricks must remain the same.Pharobama takes half of what his subjects have and scolds them for being greedy for not giving more for him to use as he will.

Both caused masses of humankind great hardship and deprivation merely because they felt it was their birthright to do so.The people should be grateful to be ruled by an omnipotent being and willingly sacrifice everything in service to him.

* Your attitude is more universal than you might think, Professor….although I suspect you already know it. We live in a 90% Arab Muslim neighborhood, where some pundits allege they hate people like us, and virtually everyone says “Merry Christmas” to me, some even drop off small gifts. No one seems to have a problem with my die hard support for Israel and the Israeli people either … it has been the topic of multiple conversations, where I’m given the courtesy of listening, even if agreement isn’t generally there … as I explain why I feel as I do. No small thing, in my opinion, since they also all know I was Army until I retired.

* Dennis Prager, a Jew, wrote a wonderful column, which he uses as a basis for a speech he gives to corporations about not renaming the Christmas Party the “Holiday Party.” As he says, being invited to the Christmas Party as a Jew or Muslim or atheist, etc., shows that Americans are inclusive. I love the fact my kids have come home on numerous occasions with dreidels with which they’ve played and sung songs. That’s America.

* I don’t know why, but it’s always around this time of year that there are a couple of young law-student looking types with petitions on clipboards outside my local Trader Joes asking customers exiting the store to sign something for the ACLU. The last time they asked me, I politely said with a smile, “No thank you, but I wish you guys a Merry Christmas!” The sour, silent expressions I got were priceless. They looked like they wanted to stone me then and there.

On Monday, the Chairperson of the Democratic National Committee objected to the use of “precipitous” to describe the rise in unemployment under Obama.

Well, Debbie … “precipitous” means “steep” and I gotta admit … doubling Bush’s average unemployment rates sure seems well within the definition of STEEP to me.

An unemployment rate of 5% is considered a sign of a healthy economy. Less than 5% and there are not enough workers to fill available jobs. More than 5% and there are not enough jobs to satisfy available workers.

During the Bush administration, the unemployment rate cycled between a low of 4.2% and a high of 6.3%. In his last year, it rose to 6.6% in October, to 6.8% in November, and to 7.3% in December.

(Some sources say 7.2% for December, which I expect is due to rounding.)

As measured by the unemployment rate, the “economic mess Obama inherited from Bush” did not even begin until the last quarter of Bush’s last year in office, which also happens to have been the last quarter of the 110th Congress, the only Democrat-controlled Congress during Bush’s administration.

When Obama took over from Bush in January 2009, unemployment was at 7.8%.

In February 2009, Obama and the Democrat-controlled 111th Congress passed a massive “stimulus” spending bill that was supposed to quickly fix the “economic mess Obama inherited from Bush.”

In October 2009, one year after Bush’s 6.6% rate, Obama’s unemployment hit 10.1%, a high not seen in 26 years. (Some sources say 10.2%, again I expect due to rounding.)

In November 2009, the New York Democratic Chair Rep. Carolyn Maloney chastized Obama’s critics, saying he and his fellow Democrats needed time to fix the “economic mess Obama inherited from Bush.”

Maloney cited economists who had estimated it would take “in excess of 3 years” to get unemployment back to its pre-recession levels.

By “pre-recession levels”, they meant “the levels that persisted throughout the first 7 years and 9 months of Bush’s administration.

Okay. Let’s recap.

January 2009 – Obama takes office, unemployment rate at 7.8%.

February 2009 – Obama’s Quick Fix “we must pass this right now” stimulus bill passes.

October 2009 – Unemployment reaches its highest point since 1983.

January 2010 thru Septemper 2011 – The unemployment rate only drops below 9% for two months.

November 2011 – Unemployment drops to 8.6% and Democrats are crowing about recovery.

Are they dyslexic? Do they not recall screaming about what a vicious criminal Bush was for allowing it to climb to 6.8% in November 2008?

If Obamanomics was going to fix the economy, shouldn’t we have seen some serious PROGRESS by NOW?
